Best breakfast in Fargo. Great service quick for on the go. Great small town cafe atmosphere.

The good: enjoyable food and breakfast served all day. The Denver omelette was fantastic and when it arrived, it arrived promptly and hot. My server, Brooklyn, was a doll. She would always ask if I needed anything, how I was doing and even brought me a box right away when I said I probably wouldn't finish the pancake as opposed to waiting until my bill arrived. This is your normal standard family restaurant. Lots of elderly are here and it's due to the classic homestyle cooking and easy parking lot. The bad: when I entered, the sign said wait to be seated and so I did. They have 1 person running the register which does clog up because when you are done eating here, you walk up and pay. This caused confusion into who is waiting to be seated vs. paying. I stood around for 10 minutes before a staff member offered to help. Staff should know who is coming and going but I have compassion when it gets busy. I pointed to the sign and said is it seat yourself? The staff member looked confused so I told her that I have been waiting on a table. It shouldn't take 10 minutes to iron out customers. Recommendations include another staff member at the front to control new walk ins to mitigate confusion or better attention from the staff at the register. The ugly: I thought I left my wireless mouse there as I worked from my computer. When I called to inquire about my missing item, the staff member was rude , she put me on hold after I stated my reason for calling and said she needed to help another customer. When she came back on the line, she proceeded to not really care about my ask, couldn't hear my ask correctly in the first place and then asked where I was sitting. This was such a turn off for me. It's a family restaurant and their isn't many of those left. Nice atmosphere and the food is okay.

I was in Fargo just for a day and stopped here to get breakfast before starting the next leg of my road trip. Pulling into thr parking lot and seeing it full made me feel like I was on to something good! You walk in to a small shelf with these gargantuan cinnamon rolls on display that I'm sure double as a pillow for when you eat the first one. Pro tip, Buy TWO!!! We were greeted and seated promptly and our drinks came out quickly. Our server was by soon after to take our orders. She did an excellent job and had a warm personality I hope to see so far up north! Being from a more southern state I found it interesting to see a "taco omelette" on the menu and almost didn't order it but I had to try! It was a fun change of pace and hit the spot. It's not gonna be go to item for me but it's always cool to try new things . It was delicious and chocked full of ground beef!! I enjoyed it with a dab of sour cream. Wifey enjoyed her eggs Benny and the kiddo had a pretty epic looking waffle. For two bucks you get all the cool whipped cream and strawberry compote!! Came here while we were visiting for a gymnastics competition. This is a cute local spot that gets pretty busy. Service was not super excellent, but it wasn't bad either. I got the 1/2 sandwich (BLT) and a cup of chili. When it arrived it came with half a grilled cheese sandwich instead. But I ended up giving it to my daughter because she ordered the adult portion grilled cheese, but I think our server misunderstood and ordered her a kids grilled cheese which came with only one half rather than two halves. The BLT was delicious and fresh tasting. I'm a fan of chili, I like it with and without beans. So if you don't care for beans, then this chili isn't for you. It wasn't spicy, but it was filled with meat and beans. It was pretty good! Overall, this is a decent place. Price is good. Portion is good for the cost. read more

Four stars because at the very least you get what you expect, pretty good, but then you get something REALLY good. I will always go to the Shack when I want to but probably never at night. I was there in the evening l, early April, and the staff was VERY loud talking with each other, the whole restaurant was extremely noisy and the cooks and others were freely dropping 'F' bombs. Lots of them. I'm no prude but this is a family restaurant. It made my skin crawl. read more

This reminds me of a small town restaurant with the Country Kitchen-type building, diner food (with coffee and jelly packets on the table), tons of regulars and friendly staff. I've never been disappointed with the food or service here. I had excellent fried chicken, fish (Walleye if I recall), omelets, pancakes & probably more. On a visit, I ordered the Coffee Of The Day which came with an additional small coffee pot. When we were done, they offered a to-go cup for the coffee which I thought was nice. read more

Pretty good for a breakfast/brunch place. We came on a Sunday morning around 10:30 and took us an hour to get seated. If I would have known, I would have called ahead if they allowed reservations over the phone. You're not allowed to wait inside and you're told to go wait in your car, just so you know. It was very busy. They were out of cinnamon rolls by then and I was really looking forward to it. Their eggs and sausages were ok, I've had better. Good ole fashion breakfast. Large portions. Crispy hash browns, fluffy pancakes, thick bacon, country fried steak with lots of hot gravy, good scrambled eggs, huge cinnamon roll. No pulp in OJ (I like it with some pulp). Fast service and good atmosphere. A+ read more

I've lived in north Fargo over 30 years and patronized this restaurant since then. however under new ownership meals have gone downhil. three visits ago ordered French Dip. ugh so bad instead of thin slices piled high a thick slab of beef tougher than a dog eating a rawhide. couple weeks ago tried the Cod diner, loved during lent, again ugh. over deep fried. to the point of burnt. disappointed. last night ordered senior hot turkey sandwich. was good. took pictures of the amount of turkey. hardly nothing. Cute little local spot to stop for a meal. The employees were all super friendly and the food was delicious. I had a BLT with fries and added a bowl of soup. Although it was soo good (turkey and wild rice) I should have gotten a cup. The bowl filled me up too much. My mom got an omelette and my dad had a grilled chicken sandwich. I found myself in Fargo, North Dakota looking for a good breakfast spot while in town visiting the Roger Maris Museum. Once again, Yelp came through with flying colors as I decided on The Shack on Broadway. The reviews, averaging a solid 4.5 stars, were right on the money. Jackpot! This is a relatively small local joint and I was immediately spotted by the locals as an "outsider" as I walked in the door with my black N-95 COVID mask. Haha. There was not another mask in sight...not on the patrons, not on the kitchen staff, not on the wait staff. Remember, this is North Dakota and I'm some dude from Motown. However, I quickly found North Dakotans to be some of the friendliest people in the world as I removed my mask and made small talk with the waitress about her hometown before ordering. She strongly recommended the omelettes joking that "you can't get a better omelette between here and Grand Forks". It wasn't until I checked the map later in the day and found that there was absolutely NOTHING but corn fields between Fargo and Grand Forks! She gave a special nod to the Western Omelette for its hearty chunks of delicious local ham. She also tipped me off to the Shack's gigantic frosted cinnamon rolls. I'm drooling at this point...as I jumped for the Western in the restaurant and a Roll to go. The Shack on Broadway totally lived up to its billing and we split the gigantic cinnamon roll 4 ways. We're in town dropping our son off for college. One of his coaches recommended this place for breakfast. It was DELICIOUS!!! We were so hungry I forgot to take some pics. I was discussing where I was going to have breakfast with a coworker, who recommended The Shack on Broadway, and spent about five minutes talking about the caramel rolls. Sweet stuff really isn't my thing, so I'm unlikely to try them. I heard no fewer than three of the nearby tables going on and on about the caramel rolls while I ate, so apparently unless you legit don't do sweet stuff like me, TRY THE CARAMEL ROLLS! I had the hooligan burger, and that thing is a hooligan. It's a chili burger with their in-house made chili, which is awesome! I make awesome chili, and am way judgemental about chili, and this is right on par with my own, but with hardly any real kick (I mean, too much heat and nobody will be able to eat it.) So yeah, I found myself a new favorite place. read more

It took almost 90 mins to get into the restaurant, had to wait in a cramped mud room with 7 other people, it was winter and the tiny heater they had in there did no help, they had a tiny bench seat that barely held two people, while everyone else stood around. The food was definitely not worth the wait, price was too expensive. They had stickers placed everywhere stating they were on dives&Dinners tv show. Claimed awards and such, which is why we went there, they must have paid for the award, because they were horrible experience, and definitely not worthy of any awards. read more

I can't give this restaurant a bad review even though we had an unpleasant experience there which I hope was an anomaly. I brought it to the manager's attention. Mark seemed genuinely and sincerely apologetic. We appreciated his response. Our meals were decent. We were there for "brunch" (breakfast food at lunchtime by our definition). Our party of two had the breakfast steak with over easy eggs and pancakes and the country fried steak with scrambled eggs with cheese and pancakes. Coffee and herbal tea to drink. Our meals were decent. Our poor experience was service related and did not seem related to how busy the place was (late morning on a Sunday) but Mark the manager's response went a long way toward smoothing things over. Give this restaurant a try and let Mark know if something is amiss. He did a great job responding. read more

This place had high yelp and Google reviews. I can see why! They were so busy and the line at the door never stopped. Cute diner (I love the mom and pop feel)...if it was bigger I'm sure there would still be a line! The staff hustled the entire time. And I was so happy with my lunch. It was great! I ordered the Turkey BLT and got sweet potato fries as my side. They were great!!! There was a dip with the fries. I loved it but can't remember what it was to look up how to make it at home. The Shack has a funny cult following that I can't totally understand. It's got fine food, pretty usual breakfast diner fare. The potatoes are decent but the coffee is weak. But nothing phenomenal or unique to write home about. The prices are okay for what it is. The staff are pretty friendly, but there is absolutely always a wait because the seating is somewhat limited. Not so sure the wait is worth it when there's plenty of typical breakfast food to be had all over Fargo. read more
