We traveled from west Texas to Maine a couple of years ago, then stumbled across this place on a side trip to Acadia. Naturally, had a huge chip on my shoulder about the quality of the food, but was tired of seafood deep fried or drowned in mayo. The place was a godsend. Place was busy, but the staff rolled with the punches and communicated well so we were never wondering or wanting. They had live music which appeared to be locals having a ball. Usually not a fan of beer joints trying to pass themselves off as gastro-destinations, but these guys nailed it on all cylinders. Thank GOD this place exists. It's near impossible to get anything other than lobster in Bar Harbor which I understand but I also don't want to eat lobster for a week straight. When we walked in, the hostess let us know that they were short staffed but we could be seated. We were very understanding and could see that it was literally just her and one other person serving 3-4 different large seating areas. It was crazy for them but they made it work and got those tables flipped quickly without rushing anyone. We decided to sit inside the covered patio area because it was cold and it was so cute! The lighting and decor was a great vibe. It didn't take long for our server to come take our drink order. We ordered a blueberry soda (my very first Maine blueberry item!!!) and a beer. The blueberry soda was INCREDIBLE!!!!! I am so upset that we didn't order a 6 pack to take back to the AirBnb and I'm still kicking myself. The beer was also really good which I'm sure has to do with the fact that this Mainely Meat location is attached to Atlantic Brewing who also make my soda. It's a match made in heaven. For food, I ordered the sausage meal with coleslaw and baked beans and my wife ordered a bowl which usually comes with pulled pork, beans and coleslaw but she subbed the coleslaw for more cornbread. Both of them were reallyyyyyy good. We took home less than half of it just because we were stuffed. The coleslaw was amazingly balanced. It wasn't sweet and didn't go too hard on the mayo and the beans were equally incredible. One of my favorite meals in Bar Harbor!! We went to the mini golf and saw Mainely Meats across the street. We realized it was closed on Tuesdays, but after a quick Google search, we were happy to find that its sister location was just a few miles further up the road and was open every day! There's plenty of free parking in their gravel lot. We got there right at 11:30am when it opened and were the third party in line. I only saw outdoor seating. Tables started filling up really fast and they were short-staffed, but our food came within 10ish mins of ordering! The ribs were AMAZING. The meat fell right off the bone. The half rack was a great appetizer for the three of us. We also got the pulled pork sandwich and the Cubano and they were sooo good! Even the bread alone was buttery and yummy. The potato salad side was very potato-heavy and needed some barbecue sauce for flavor. We also got the blueberry cider which wasn't super sweet or blueberry-forward, but we still enjoyed it. Each table had a big bottle of brown sweet barbecue sauce and orange spicy sauce which tasted like Tabasco sauce. We mixed both sauces on everything and it was delicious! Great spot if you love meat. With their clever name and variety of meats, you're bound to enjoy it here. It features a memorable location with nice vibes. They have something going with Atlantic Brewing which seems to work well. We were all hungry after walking around the pretty gardens, so we had to go with the Max Plate. Full rack of ribs and a pulled pork sandwich. Sandwich was good with a mild smoke flavor. We inquired as to what kind of wood was used and we were told a mix of whatever the guy drops off. Hope it's not treated with any anti termite or deck stain . Coleslaw was good but needed a little more acidity. Ribs had a nice not too salty rub but were overcooked. Ya'll...this may come as a shock to you...but this had to be one of the most tastiest meals I had while I vacationed on Mount Desert Island for a week. Yes, I realize I'm in seafood haven. This was top notch bbq though. I got the Sampler Platter so I got a taste of their pulled pork, ribs, chicken, and sausage. The ribs were almost crispy on the outside but tender on the inside. The chicken was super flavorful and moist. The sausage had a great, unexpected kick of spice to it. The most "ordinary" rendition was the pulled pork. I loved that nothing was smothered with bbq sauce, so all the smoky flavors and herbs had the opportunity to shine (with a bottle of bbq sauce offered on the side). It was a huge meal considering it came with potato salad (ok so it was a little odd with mustard or something like that in it), coleslaw (yum), beans (double yum), and corn bread (triple yum). A decent menu for beers too. Keep in mind this is a super casual place. We sat in the larger tent area and other the inside space is pretty small. Still full service. Pretty attentive. Very friendly. The waitress suggested the blueberry sangria, I was a bit skeptical, but it was delicious. Our steaks were perfect medium rare, and the potato salad was good. It's a dry rub, and comes with side of bbq sauce which I liked because you can put as little or as much sauce as you want and doesn't come doused in bbq sauce. If you are tired of or need a break from seafood, Mainely Meat Barbecue is an excellent alternative. We went to the location with the Atlantic Brewery because it is higher rated. I ordered the Sampler which included chicken, spicy sausage, ribs, and pulled pork. Everything had a smoky flavor. It was not a surprise because we could see the smoker in the back when we arrived. The chicken was very good. However, it was not the fall off the bone tender that would blow me away for barbecue chicken. The spicy sausage had a real kick to it and I loved it. The ribs were very good. They were cooked long enough so that the bone melted to add flavor but not too long that the meat was dried out. I also enjoyed the slightly charred skin. The pulled pork was moist and excellent. The barbecue sauce was great. Definitely utilize it. There is no sign so it is difficult to find the restaurant. However, it is right next to and part of the Atlantic Brewery so just look for the brewery. These folks do an AMAZING job with their smoked meats and bbque! We had a sampler platter and the chicken, pulled pork, ribs and sausage were all fantastic. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich which came on grilled buttered bread. They have homemade sauces that you can amply apply and it was so delicious! I never thought of Bar Harbor to be a place for BBQ but looking through Yelp, 99% of places to eat here were either lobster or BBQ. After a 5+ hour drive from Boston (and working the graveyard shift beforehand), my boyfriend and I decided that we were going to grab a bite to eat then drive up Cadillac to watch the sunset. We wanted to do as little physical activity as we possibly could on our first day here and we accomplished just that by starting it off at Mainely Meat BBQ and the attached brewery. My indecisive self decided on the sampler while my more decisive boyfriend got the wings and ribs. The meats were perfect- fall off the bone and tender without being mushy. The ribs were slightly dry and salty but nothing some sauce couldn't fix. I love that the platters come with all the sides instead of picking 1 or 2. The downside is that they don't have mac and cheese as an option. Unique to Maine, my boyfriend and I also got the blueberry soda, blueberry float, and blueberry sangria. Blueberry soda is overly sweet but pairs well with vanilla ice cream to make a float. The sangria was tangy and not pleasurable to drink. Hard to decide which was tastier -- the Bbq baked beans or all the meats on my sampler platter or the smoked chicken wings. The platter came with some really tasty ribs that fell off the bones, a chicken thigh, a generous heap of pulled pork and Bbq baked beans, coleslaw, jalapeño corn bread and potato salad. The beans were just divine. Unctuous is a good description. The pulled pork was moist but not greasy, add their homemade BBQ sauce and a little of their hot and you're in heaven. We were at Acadia National Park and talked to a family about what is good to eat around this area. They all said, Mainely Meat on Know Rd. They said, go to Know Rd, make sure its the Knox Rd location!! When we left the park, we made our way to Mainely Meat and we are grateful. We had what I would call a "meat platter" and grilled wings. The wings were absolutely amazing. All of BBQ was awesome but the wings, I have thought about them almost everyday since we have been home (Michigan). We talked to the owner and he was down to earth and a nice guy. Family ran place that needs you to visit. Get out of Bar Harbor for an hour or two and visit the Knox Rd location!!! I must say this place is a little strange. It is in a strange temporary permanent structure. We were really going to the brewery to get some beer and planned to find a place for lunch. Well when we got to the brewery and found a bbq place right there it was a sign from God. I had some wonderful local blueberry beer. It's subtle not like you're drinking blueberry soda. Had the pulled pork sandwich. It comes with no sauce on it which is how I like it. Sauce is on the table and you can put on which ever you like and as much as you like. Came with a side. I got the potatoe salad. A bit heavy on the mustard. Lots is menu options to choose from. If you're not sure, try the sampler platter.
