It was a motivating factor to visit the establishment, enjoy a lovely meal in a lovely town, and tip heavily. You claim to be a culinary source of authority. I think it's great that you own a Subway franchise in New York City, but I might hesitate from throwing around the word 'chef' too haughtily. I mean just because one wears a cowboy hat does not mean one owns cattle, am I right? Perhaps there were dishes on the menu that one could argue were overengineered, but they tasted great! And consider that you have no idea where in the culinary journey their chef is, nor what the market needs or will bear in Bar Harbor. The place was packed. Service was great. Food was divine! On a Tuesday night. Maybe next time you visit a restaurant, leave your Michelin yardstick in the trunk of your broomstick, and simply relax. Or possibly return to Bar Harbor Bicycle Shop, another establishment you experienced through your Vantablack-colored glasses and blew up on this site. If you're looking for a cozy, intimate dinner spot, ask to sit in the fireplace area--it makes for a wonderful night out. The two standout entrées were incredible. The Frutti di Mare was packed with seafood, and the red miso in the sauce added an amazing depth of flavor that made the dish really unique. Using lightly fried calamari instead of the usual preparation was a fantastic touch and added great texture. If you love seafood and pasta, this is an easy recommendation. My wife ordered the filet, which was cooked perfectly, but the lobster butter absolutely took it over the top. Where do I even begin. We should have walked out the moment we opened the menu and saw that every single dish reads like a fever dream written by someone who just discovered the word "umami" and lost their mind entirely. Every fish is paired with meat. In a lobster town. Truffle aioli on a lobster roll are we in 1987? The apps arrived and the nausea followed immediately. My wedge salad had sweet blue cheese dressing I didn't know that was possible, but here we are -- with a random glob of whole grain mustard on top. For what reason? No one knows. My daughter ordered the pork belly and scallops. The scallops arrived the color of miniature marshmallows not a single sear on them, just pale, flaccid little jellies sliding around the plate. My husband ordered the garlic shrimp which inexplicably contained olives, capers, rock-hard chorizo, and a salty broth. The bread course: three pieces of sourdough for $12. One of the butters was sweet. My sister's salmon arrived on two separate piles of colored gloop one green, one reddish pink decorated with little ornamental dots in a plating style that I haven't seen for 20 years. Something on the plate was allegedly broccoli slaw. It was large, cold, oxidized florets with brown edges that no one touched. My husband's filet came with beet mashed potatoes that were ice cold and inedible, and a steak so chewy it couldn't be cut and was raw in the middle. My daughter's seafood pasta arrived in what I can only describe as a glop of beige glue with fish suspended inside it. It looked like oatmeal that had absorbed the ocean. She was given a cracker and a fork, which I assume was meant to be ironic. I canceled my entrée after the apps. When we asked our server where the halibut was from, he said "I think it's fresh." When we asked about the salmon, he said "I think the Atlantic Ocean, but I'm not sure." That was the end of that conversation. We are well-traveled. We live in New York City. I am a chef and my sisters husband is a chef. We have eaten all over the world. This was the single worst meal any of us has ever had in our collective lives. Every dish had no fewer than 47 ingredients, none which complimented each other. The owner seemed genuinely shocked when we explained what had happened, which was perhaps the most alarming part. He refunded us, and we appreciated that. But the refund did not cover my daughter spending the night sick. Hire a new chef. Write a new menu. Edit ruthlessly. Less is more. A lobster in Bar Harbor does not need truffle aioli!!It needs butter maybe some lemon? We were absolutely shocked this place has good reviews. read more

This might have been the best meal we had on our trip to Maine! A lot of restaurants weren't open yet but we came across this one. We were originally only going to order some small plates , but the one entree with fried chicken looked like something my husband would really like. Cocktails were great. Our server Eli was very friendly and helpful , he answered my questions. The lobster bisque was delicious, and I liked that it had a tempura lobster garnish and the caviar in it was a nice touch too. The tempura wasn't as crispy as I would have liked it , I think only the end part was, but still very good soup. We also got some oysters which were great with the sauces on the side. I ended up getting the halibut, which I never get at a restaurant- but it was so good! With the wakame butter, bok choy, pork belly, and sticky rice. All the flavors worked so well together! Husband got the Cantonese chicken- which was delicious as well. Very crispy, flavorful. We were so stuffed afterwards otherwise we would have got dessert. We ended up taking some Togo even though we had to drive for hours the next day. We put it in a cooler and ate some for lunch cold and it was still good. In Bar Harbor for a long weekend and this was our family's absolute favorite meal. Everything about it - the ambience, the music playing was straight off our favorite playlists, our server was wonderful (Peter!), and the food, to quote my daughter - "mind blowing". Our 10 year old son and 9 year old daughter said it was the best meal of their lives (and they are huge foodies - no kids meals around here, lol). This one was served over big fried soggy onion ring. The lobster roll had crispy tempura flakes, which I also did not appreciate. But we sat at the bar and the service was very professional. Our waiter made our experience less than stellar - his timing for serving was off ...he brought one cocktail along with the lobster bisque- to the same person . The bread service for 12 dollars was ridiculously pricey and there were 4 pieces of bread which made us get 2 orders - pretty sad since entrees were $48 - and bisque was $22...other costs were added on? Our favorite meal on this vacation. The lobster rigatoni was the highlight of our trip. The cocktails were super delicious and the service was by far the best in Bar Harbor. I don't remember the gentleman's name, but he was super friendly and answered all of our questions. We liked it here so much we came back a second night. This place is a step above anything else in town. Super thoughtful dishes, well balanced flavors and a varied menu. The service was well trained but not stuffy in the slightest. Over our two nights we tried - The local oysters, beet salad, salmon dish, halibut fish. Second night - Seared albacore, more oysters (on happy hour), grilled cornbread and short rib. Every single dish was good to great! I have to shout o their oysters. I am not an oyster girlie but am now converted. So fresh and briny with perfect cocktail sauce and a scallion mignonette. Came here for our anniversary last night everything from beginning to end was amazing. The hosts were sweet and welcoming and our service was spot on. Our server Eli was so nice and informative about the menu items. For apps we got the tuna and lobster buns both delicious. During a visit over during July 4th holiday weekend, I ordered seafood with pasta in a red sauce. I swear it was catsup. The plate weighed about two pounds of gobbledy gook. Nothing made the sense. The flavors were awful. I tried a mussel. It was bad. I would have returned it but just wanted to leave to try to get something to eat before all of the restaurants closed. My companion had an equally poor experience. We're well traveled and frequently dine in NYC where it's hard to get a bad meal. Spoiled, perhaps, but this restaurant is a 'no go' by any and all standards. The ambiance is pretty, but the noise level is enough to make the sane, insane. If you're curious, have a drink at the bar then skedaddle. We had a nice seafood dinner at Geddy's and they have good pizza. Also, Havana was a solid B. Some dishes hits; others misses but the sommelier, Billy, is the sweetest and really knows his stuff. We had a Chablis that was killer. Have a great time in Bahaba! read more

We grabbed seats at the bar at Table Salt and had a really good experience overall. The food was excellent the ribeye I ended up with was perfectly cooked. A bit fattier than I usually prefer, but still flavorful and tender. Slightly on the pricey side, but I didn't feel ripped off. Originally, I had my eye on the burger, but was told it was no longer available by the time we ordered, which was a bummer. My wife had the summer salad and enjoyed it. Drinks were well-made (pictured), and the bar staff was fantastic--friendly and attentive. Only major downside? It was hot inside. Like, uncomfortably hot for me and my wife, which never happens. We were visiting Bar Harbor from Atlanta after a day of hiking in Acadia and stopped at Table Salt for dinner at the bar. It was truly exceptional. I ordered the salmon, which came with a thoughtful mix of fall flavors that elevated the dish and paired beautifully with the fish. The flavor profile felt unique and perfectly crafted. My husband had the halibut, which was equally rich and delicious. We also shared the lobster bisque--creamy, velvety, and full of flavor. For drinks, I tried the Nightmare Before Christmas mocktail. It had a wonderful balance of blackberry and fig with a light sparkle--refreshing yet seasonal. My husband enjoyed the Bonfire cocktail which was full of fall notes. Julie and Beth took excellent care of us at the bar, making the whole evening feel welcoming and fun. I would absolutely return to Table Salt and happily order the exact same meal again. Holy Moses!!!! This spot is an absolute must-try! The entire meal was flawless -- there wasn't a single thing we didn't love. Table Salt has the best lobster bisque by far. We usually go to Jordan Pond where I've ordered the lobster stew, but honestly, Table Salt blows it out of the water. We started with the short rib, which was absolute heaven, and the deconstructed Asian tuna appetizer -- so fresh and flavorful! I ordered the lobster mac and cheese, and wow... now I understand why it's so popular. It was cooked perfectly, the lobster was tender and plentiful, the creamy sauce was decadent, and the crispy breadcrumbs on top took it to the next level. Outstanding! So pleased. After eating lobster daily for a week I needed a steak (and lobster)! Table Salt did not disappoint. We started with the wedge salad which had plenty of sizeable blue cheese chunks. A great choice. The main course was the boneless ribeye and add the lobster. Steak was cooked perfectly with a great sear. I was not expecting it to be so well cooked and flavorful for a seafood mecca like Maine. Thank you for also shelling my lobster. I appreciated that. Perfect cook on the lobster and the mashed potatoes and horseradish sauce were great pairings. Finished with a piece of coffee cake like cheese cake with blueberry compote and lime glaze. Fantastic. For my birthday I always love visiting Bar Harbor from western MA, so happy I picked this spot for my b-day dinner! Food was FAST, cocktails were beyond amazing, and our server Eli was incredible. He went above and beyond and as a fellow in the industry I was truly impressed. Best service I've ever had here or really anywhere, we had a drink spill and the bartender himself came over to help out and make us a new one free of charge. We came here because of Bet. We met her last season and have followed her for where she works. We started our evening at the bar and ordered a few cocktails along with Bar Harbor Blond Oysters with a cucumber vignette which was the special for happy hour. Then I had the lobster roll because for 23 years of visiting Bar Harbor, I enjoy trying each restaurant's lobster roll. This lobster roll knocked it out of the park! My tastebuds were so happy! My husband had the filet mignon and added scallops. He was extremely pleased. It was our last night of our trip and we wanted to have a spectacular dining experience. The service at the bar was fantastic. The bartender from Bulgaria was fascinating to watch as he mixed drinks. We also loved to be able to hear eachother in the restaurant.
