My fiancè and I usually come here for breakfast/brunch. The food is usually good. This morning he ordered a breakfast croissant. Halfway through eating it, he noticed they left the wax paper from the cheese on the sandwich. He felt sick to his stomach, and immediately lost his appetite. We let the waitress know, who informed the owner who was there at the time. She took off the cost of the sandwhich, but we were really bummed that the owner couldn't take a second to come apologize or even comp the entire bill. read more

After wincing thru a couple of F bombs from a patron and hearing the bartender/server talk about someone using offensive language the night before which was not appropriate because this is a "God damn family restaurant", I ordered food. I work in Poway and took a group there for lunch. Waitress noted that they had just retooled their menu. Basically, very institutional tasting food. Had a turkey wrap with macaroni salad. Tasted like it might have been picked up in the deli counter at Von's, marked up 4x, and served to me. I'm positive the mac salad was out of the Von's tub, had that watery texture and tangy aftertaste. Disappointing because Poway needs better dining choices, but this place isn't going to cut it. read more

BG closed, so I was in a bad mood having driven from RB to Poway just to enjoy their sweet potato fries. Someone told me about Mainstream across the street so I went there to satisfy my craving. I sat by a window in the bar area under a very loud vibrating speaker. Granted, it is a bar, but at 11:30 am? I read my newspaper and their sweet potato fries arrived in the blink of an eye, they arrived burning hot and limp, very limp, but, by then, I was starving. Ate them, read the paper, got up to use the restroom, leaving behind newspaper and tote bag. Upon returning I observed a busboy wiping the floor underneath my table. He told me that the glass of water had tipped over. Newspaper gone, all wet, floor dangerously still wet and slippery, check said $5.00 plus tax. I even left a tip. Silly me. Never again will I set foo in this placet. Perhaps one should be drinking to enjoy the so-so food? read more

We have been searching for a new restaurant in the area....and this one hit a home run! We ordered an appetizer on the recommendation of the server it was fried ham, creamed herbs, pickle in a roll......I was skeptical but it was awesome. Will definitely order again. The dinners, I had the prime rib sandwich with fries.......and it was tender, full of flavor and fantastic...this will be my go to when I go back again. my husband had the prime rib with baked potato, and he said it was the best he has had in a long time. My daughter had a fish dish, and she was raving about it (I hate fish so I didn't pay attention to the type). We had the peach raspberry tart for desert. I have had desserts in Harrod's Food Hall and Paris patisseries so I know desserts. This could be construed as Poways finest, it was absolutely delicious. The staff was welcoming, friendly and very attentive. Kudos to all of them. The owner came over to thank us for coming in and he was warm and friendly. This will become our new favorite place as you can't put a price on the quality of food that we were served and the staff makes you feel that they appreciate your business. I had a great Mainstream Salad. I usually don't like mixed green salads but I've been trying to eat better lately and I cleaned the dish. The service was great and they had a nice beer selection. This is my second visit, it is a nice clean place but service is really slow. The food I've had is pretty good quality but the bartender and wait staff appear to like to socialize. I didn't want to do a bashing post so I observer several other customers and it looked as though they were having the same issue as I was. Also I've notice what appears to be the manager taking up space at the bar talking to the bartender while they have customers. So if service in a bar setting is important to you this may not be your place. read more

My family comes here for breakfast almost every Sunday with our two dogs and sit on the patio. We love all of the breakfast options. All the Eggs Benedicts are amazing. Horrible! Despite asking for "no bell peppers" they brought machaca doused in runny black beans... with bell peppers. Good thing they were visible so I could send the dish back immediately, otherwise the allergy would have kicked in. They even served a cup of coffee with some waste paper in the cup. Service was awful, food good, not great. We called ahead and reserved a table for four in a quieter area so we could talk. They gave us a table in the bar, under a speaker. Really, really loud. Ordered appetizer, salad and sandwich. All came out at the same time. Had to ask for water replenishment. One of our party ordered ice tea. Was served tea with very little ice. Never offered a refill. Had to ask for sugar. Had to ask for silverware. Was given wrapped silverware in a napkin but one was missing the fork. No salt and pepper on the table. On the good side...had a rib eye sandwich that was very, very good. Pickle appetizer was very good. One of our party had a salad that was "ok", another had a wrap the was "ok". They really need to work with their servers. The girl who took our order was good, her helper was poor. read more

Have been here several times before but not sure I'll be going back again. Service was fine, but food quality really suffered. Was wanting a pre-diet splurge of fish n chips - chips part was ok but the fish was very disappointing;heavily battered in a greasy coating and mushy inside. Ordered a side of coleslaw, which was decent but $3 bucks for half a cup seems a bit pricey to me. Gave feedback on the fish to our server who passed it along to the cook. I was offered a freshly cooked piece of fish to go and turned it down; would have preferred a reduction in the bill but that was not offered. read more

The food here is very good and so is the service. I usually get the Caesar wrap. Their servings are very generous! It's a pretty typical Poway restaurant not fancy but good fare. "Crustini"---- I've gone to Mainstream once or twice a week for the last two months. I go for the Line Dancing and Duffy, certainly not the mediocre to bad, overpriced food. I've tried more than 10 menu items trying to find something worth ordering again. Last week I ordered the Sweet & Spicy Sausage appetizer for $9.50. A small dish with diced, nicely grilled, sausages arrived on a plate along with the heel from a loaf of whole wheat bread, cut in half and maybe dusted with Parmesan. I gave the server a quizzical look trying to convey my dissatisfaction politely. "What?", she said, "It comes with 'crustini'." I pointed out the menu says "crostini", which should be Italian or at the very least white bread toasts. She asked what I would like instead and generously offered to charge me extra for my suggested substitute, garlic bread. Another example: I adore chorizo and eggs. When that order arrived, the dish was extremely bland. HOW DOES A KITCHEN PRODUCE BLAND CHORIZO AND EGGS?!?!?!?! I pointed it out to the server and she ever so helpfully provided a saucer of Pace from a jar. SERVICE: The dancing is in their "banquet" room and service there is a disaster. Partly because management has given staff unmanageable, non-contiguous sections to work and partly due to a lack of professionalism. My guess is they are family, not just staff and that's why it's all right to stand around the station chatting among themselves, even with the owner there. 9 times out of 10 I must go to the bar at the front of the house and request someone find my server so I can pay my check---even though I've been there hours while dancing. I'm not the only one getting up and going to the station in search of more water (dancing is thirsty work) or napkins. Surprisingly, often, the station is devoid of napkins and the water pitchers are empty. read more

This place is horrible now! Food is cold and the service is awful. 20 minutes to get waited on. 10 more minutes to get a Pepsi. I asked the waitress to please wipe down our table as it was filthy. Never done. Another 20 minutes to get our cold food. 20 more minutes to get the check after she cleared our plates. This was on a Monday at 6pm and not very crowded. Very sad! Came here for date night and will not be returning ever again. The food was awful, terrible, just downright disgusting. I ordered the Seared Ahi, not only was it cold in the middle but I am positive it was the reason for my food poisoning the following morning. My boyfriend ordered the Angus Ribeye, asked for it medium rare and what he received was JERKY. The blackest, toughest, most well done steak I've ever had the unfortunate experience of seeing. Their steaks could double as hockey pucks. The veggies on both our plates were too salty and obviously just a frozen veggie medley they popped in the microwave and slapped on our plates. I gave it another shot and came back on a Wednesday on which they have a $9.99 prime rib special. The experience was a lot better than the first time. The cut of prime rib is about 8 or 10 oz and comes with sides of garlic mashed potatoes and veggies. Unlike the grilled chicken I previously had, the prime rib was actually good. They it was excellently prepared and not overcooked. The vegetables were pretty much standard and the garlic mashed potatoes were fairly tasty. Our experience definitely didn't match the previous reviews. Was very disappointing. Service was poor, waited a LONG time for our food. Once it arrived, the salad was a bit wilted and my burger was extremely undercooked after I ordered it cooked medium-well. When the server finally came back to our table, I showed her the rare burger after only being able to eat the outside edges. Her short response was, "oh...sorry about that" and she asked if we needed anything else then returned with our check. Was our first and last time coming here.
