Also, we always love to see Sydney-- who is an amazing server and restaurant manager. She is always warm, kind, professional, and so accommodating. The ambiance was clean, and we were seated right away, which was nice. The food overall was underwhelming. The eggs and hash browns were mediocre at best, and the bacon was so overcooked it had the texture of a chip and was way too salty. It was all fine, just nothing special--something I could've easily made at home for better taste and a lower price. The menu overall felt overpriced for the quality, especially since most items were $17+. Customer service was fine, but nothing stood out or made the experience better. The food did come out quickly, which I appreciated, and our drinks were refilled in a timely manner, which made the experience smoother. The one true highlight was the sourdough toast--it was actually really good. For comparison, places like Broken Yolk Cafe offer breakfast-style meals at a lower price with comparable (or even better) quality and portion sizes, which made this restaurant feel overpriced for what you get. Their website lists prices as $10-$20, but in reality most items I saw were $16+, so the pricing felt higher than expected and feel that should be updated ! My cousin was craving pancakes, so I took her here based on Janet T.'s suggestion. The restaurant looked a little run-down, so I was a bit worried at first. But breakfast turned out to be good, and my cousin loved her pancakes. My aunts also loved their French toast. The fried potatoes were better than the hash browns and had a delicious seasoning on them. The service was great too. My fav is the corned beef hash and eggs; canned hash that they crisp in a skillet and let it take the shape of the pan (you get a half skillet's worth) with 3 eggs, hash browns and a bread of your choice (or 2 pancakes). Always a pleasure coming in here for breakfast. I also bring family and friends who visit me from out of town here. It's usually busy, because the food is good, the coffee cups stay filled, and the service is right neighborly. My go-to menu item remains their CFS--that's Country Fried Steak. It's consistently well made with just the right amount of gravy. I order mine with crispy hash browns and either egg whites or scrambled eggs. It comes with your choice of carb and I usually opt for the French toast or some sourdough toast so my girl can soak up her runny yolk from her order while sneak bites of her waffles. This place offers breakfast and lunch. I opted for a breakfast meal. I called ahead of time to ask a couple of questions prior to heading to the restaurant. Phone etiquette, friendly enough. My server was friendly and new all the regular customers and what their order was before they even ordered. That was nice to see. I ordered the chicken fried steak combo, but was craving French toast too. I saw they offered a side order of French toast so that was my plan. When the employee asked what kind of bread would I like with my combo, I told her I would like to skip the bread and order a side order of French toast. She said that could be my bread option, at no extra cost. So that is what I ordered. I had ordered decaf coffee and find the flavor was too mild for me. The food arrived pretty quick. The steak was good! I usually order my gravy off to the side because I don't like my crispy food to be soggy but the gravy didn't soak into the steak. The hash browns were nice and crispy. The French toast was one large bread sliced in half. I found it to be yummy, it wasn't soggy in the middle and had a slight crispness on the outside. There is a lot of seating, mostly tables. They don't take reservations but can't accommodate with enough seating. They can do separate checks and if your party is for 8 or more there is a service charge. The restaurant is a very clean, warm diner style restaurant with plenty of seating. The staff here are very nice and welcoming. Their coffee and orange juice are outstanding. My favorite Benedict is San Diego is their spicy Benedict. It comes with 2 large custom English muffins, 3 poached eggs, Canadian bacon, roasted jalapeños and avocado, covered in thick hollandaise sauce. I even add on sliced tomato. Simple inside, greeted quickly with an attentive service, even with all of our special requests (add choc chips, chocolate syrup and whipped cream to short stack pancakes, extra crispy hashbrowns and corned beef hash, a plastic cup to take my left over fresh brewed black iced tea and fast service so we could make it back in time for a baseball game at Poway sports complex. Worst breakfast I can say I've ever had omg I wanted to say something but not the waitress fault. I think the hash browns were out all day they were so hard and stale I couldn't give any to my son out of all the things I ordered the only thing I could give him was eggs. That was the only thing that was soft enough, and I was worried about even giving that to him horrible, horrible, horrible the waitress was nice, but she shouldn't even let food like that come out. I ordered a turkey and Swiss sandwich with a side salad. The sandwich was really good. What I did NOT appreciate was the use of already blackened (rotten) avocado slices. Who puts slices of avocado that have partially already turned black in the middle, on a sandwich? Unfortunately I did not realize this until I was working on my second half of the sandwich and I opened it and immediate cut the black parts out. Visited for brunch (10am) on a Friday. If you use the map directly within Yelp, it might take you elsewhere. Just keep going on Poway Rd until you see Hyundai and make a u-turn at Mossy Nissan. (Or just go past Mossy Nissan if you are coming from the other way) It is located between those two dealerships. You can't miss it as it is right on the side of the rd. They have plenty of seatings inside and also have outside seating if you have fur children to bring. The staff were very nice and quick on their feet. Food came out pretty quickly as well. Their plates are huge and they are generous with their portions even their coffees come in huge mugs/cup. The bacon and egg came with pretty thick and not too salty bacons. Hash browns were crispy and not too oily. The country fried steak was a bit on a thin side but it was nice and crispy but didn't feel dry. The wrap was really huge and the coleslaw that came with it was refreshing as it had apples and pineapples. Overall really satisfying brunch! read more

I was disappointed with the beverage pricing compared to the amount received. I've been here a few times for breakfast and typically keep my order very basic--scrambled eggs, bacon or sausage, hash browns, and toast. It's a simple order, and to be fair, the portions on the plate are generous. One thing worth noting is there is a server (not our original server) who regularly checks in on us. She clearly goes out of her way to make sure customers are taken care of and seems to be compensating for the lack of attentiveness from others. She's always friendly, smiling, and kind. In hindsight, it almost feels like she's trying to prevent complaints--whether about pricing or other issues I've heard from friends who have also visited this restaurant. What truly surprised me was the bill. The orange juice I ordered was $9.95 plus tax. That was nearly half the cost of my entire breakfast plate. My father and I looked at the glass of "fresh-squeezed" orange juice and both questioned whether the price was correct. The server kindly offered a 10% discount, which I appreciated, but it still didn't sit right. Out of curiosity, I called three other breakfast spots immediately after--two of them chain restaurants--and the average price for fresh-squeezed orange juice was about $5.49. Something feels off with the beverage pricing here. If ownership isn't listening to employees who have mentioned losing customers, I hope this feedback reaches them. For now, I'll be finding another breakfast spot in Poway, and if not, we'll stick with Broken Yolk in Carmel Mountain. You could tell the server felt bad about the pricing, but it's clearly not within her control. I originally came to Flapjacks for the food, not the atmosphere. The attentive server who checked on us was the main reason I returned a second time within three weeks. Had I ordered the orange juice on my first visit, I likely would have made my decision then. Came here after hiking Iron Mountain on a Saturday. It's a cute local diner. Lots of breakfast options and HUGE servings. Had a burger it was delicious. Solid 4 stars for the food. We were hankering for some crispy corned beef hash after binge watching a weekend's worth of Hallmark movies...one of the characters dug into a plate of some. I had to have some too! So I scoured Yelp and settled on Franco's. It is located in a small strip mall in Poway. This restaurant used to be a pizza joint and then a BBQ spot. We were patrons of the the former Jimmy's Brick Pit BBQ and got to know the old owner and his son. Miss that place and the family that ran it tremendously but don't mind that Franco's Flapjacks took over their spot. Service was fine. Our gal was hard at work and although she didn't really check on his, it was no biggie. It was pretty busy. The girl with the plug earrings on the other hand, was incredibly unpleasant but our food more than made up for it. Corned Beef Hash: crisp on the outside, tender on the inside...perfection. I have become a regular at Franco's along with several friends and we enjoy our weekly get togethers here! My favorites from the menu are breakfast: Eggs, hashbrowns and toast and for lunch: Patty Melt with Onion rings or Veggie sandwich. The group enjoys omelets, frittatas, wraps and burgers mostly! Bailey and Sydney have been great servers and they there staff do a good job on the drinks, cleanup and even split the bill for us as requested. It's a fun spot to gather, eat and chat for our group! Found this place on Yelp when looking for somewhere new to try while in Poway. It's set up on the end of an older strip mall. Though the place is older, it was well maintained and clean. Encountered very friendly staff throughout my visit. They seem to work well as a team, with all the staff working the front helping out where needed. I chose the ham and cheese frittata with hashbrowns and pancakes, since I read good things about the pancakes. The frittata was very good and the hashbrowns cooked well. Crispy but not dried out and burnt (I hate when that happens!). Unfortunately, the pancakes were a complete fail for me. They were very chewy, almost a rubbery texture and had to really put some strength in to cutting them. It squished down and took a lot of back and forth with the knife to cut a piece off. That should have told me right there that they weren't going to be enjoyable and they weren't. Besides the texture the flavor just didn't hit the spot. Tried a couple pieces and gave up. Enjoyed the rest of the meal though so didn't go away hungry but was disappointed I couldn't enjoy a nice fluffy pancake with my meal. If I'm in the area again and looking for breakfast I'll probably give it another try. There were more positives than negatives. read more

My wife has gone here a few times with friends, but every time I eat here or order breakfast to take home, it is more than disappointing; I feel cheated. The plates are adequate, and the silverware seems military surplus, but you're not here for those. You're here for the food. They deserve the 5/5 for the quality of food and attention to detail. The eggs were done evenly, the hashbrowns on both sides, the corned beef hash was cooked all the way through, and the french toast was like a dessert. They did not seem to mind. I ordered the Italian frittata with breakfast potatoes and biscuit. Everything was delicious, eggs were fluffy, cheesey with plenty of Italian sausage. I took half of my eggs and potato home. Gobbled that hot steamy biscuit as they dont tend to reheat welll..but it was also flakey good. My husband had a make your own custom omelet. He chose sides of hashbrowns (crispy, just how he likes it and did not need to ask) and light puffy pancakes. Everything was delicious! My only suggestion for the Italian frittata, would be a side of marinara (most breakfast place's don't seem to have that for Italian offerings) instead of salsa. Also mozzarella instead of cheddar. I've driven by this place many times but have never stopped until today. Breakfast sounded good so I ordered the waffle with eggs and Italian sausage. The waffle was uncommonly delicious and memorable. Cooked to a golden light crispiness with hints of vanilla sweetness. Delicious all on it's own. However I had plans to make a breakfast sandwich! The Italian sausage was juicy and flavorful. Bringing my breakfast up several notches. They have an outdoor seating area where people can take their doggies. Came for Saturday brunch with a couple close friends and their kids. I brought my little one along too. Restaurant is big and clean. Very lovely people, solid menu selection of classics, and we were seated quickly. The food was delicious! I ordered corned beef hash with hash browns, eggs, and a waffle. The hash and the waffle were all crisped to perfection. Portions were surprisingly small compared to other breakfast places around here. The service is very friendly, but a little slow considering the place was relatively empty. We were only checked on once during our meal for coffee/beverage refills. Franco's Flapjack Revisited. A number of years ago not long after Franco's opened I was looking for a breakfast place and came across Franco's Flapjack. One after another review gave them one star. There were dozens and the average was sometime 1 1/2 stars or 2. The main complaint was that the waitresses kept coming to the table and asking how everything was. What the heck was wrong with that? The food was plentiful and very good and the service was excellent and attentive. I wrote a review and gave them a five star rating. A funny thing happened and most of the subsequent ratings became five stars. I wondered, do people just follow the crowd or what. Anyway, I hadn't been there in a long time and decided to have breakfast there today. Two simple breakfasts and a cup of coffee with a 17% tip was $54. That was bad enough but the service was lackluster. Not once did the waitress ask how everything was. She never asked if I wanted a coffee refill. The place was looking rather shabby, torn shades, scraped wallpaper. The corned beef hash was bland and got cold very quickly. I asked to have it heated a little. The coffee seemed watery. It was just a so so experience and I'm sure I won't be going back anytime soon. read more

Our food came out quickly. Pancakes and biscuits were fluffy and the frittata was bursting with fresh vegetables. The chicken fried steak and the sausage gravy was a bit salty though with only small bits of sausage. We did order a Greek salad with chicken to go after seeing the one at the table next to us because it looked really good and was huge.
