    Trying some of the food
    Amanda C.

I have to start off by saying I love the interior of this restaurant. For a busy shopping center area, it gives off a calm refreshing vibe inside. I love the spaces that feel like indoor/outdoor seating and it's very relaxing to look at the palm trees and plants out the window from a cute little booth. It makes me excited to take people when they come into town because it's more of a nice vibe inside. I would definitely want to bring kids too so they could try the little mini golf room that's only an extra $1 to play - how cute is that to have something like that, so much love! I wish I could give as much praise for the food, but I really felt it was just okay. First off, it was a little concerning the staff couldn't tell me what the ingredients were in some of the food like the tortillas because they just didn't know and there's no ingredients listed on the package from wherever they get it from. So for someone with allergies I'm not sure if I'd recommend this place since that seems to be a factor. Also when explaining the allergy for my family, staff couldn't understand the difference between yeast and gluten, which made me nervous to order anything that could be potentially messed up. We ended up getting something small just to try the food but I was bummed how greasy/oily it was. I had to keep asking for more napkins because I was just trying to get it off my potatoes but it felt like there was almost a pool beneath on my plate. I won't lie, I was a little disappointed. Everything tasted just okay, like food you would get at a typical restaurant like Dennys, but here it is more expensive. The orange juice was good and fresh but the food itself just tasted pretty typical, really nothing special. So I'm a bit torn. I truly loved the ambiance. But I just am so bummed out by the food. I'll probably be back to try it one more time and get something different just to give it one more shot, but after that, I'm just not sure...

Came here for breakfast. Lots of people waiting but people are seated fast. Waiting area outside is covered. Once seated everything was pretty quick. The food came out fast as well. I got Eggs Benedict and it was tasty with hint of spice. Overall the food was not salty which is to my liking.

You can't go wrong with broken yolk cafe! Everything is delicious here! I got the Greek omelette. The others got the Mom omelette and the smoked salmon toast. Everything was wonderful. The orange juice is freshly squeezed here and so good! It was my moms bday and they brought a blueberry muffin for her with whipped cream on top! It was a nice surprise!

A San Diego original and favorite for brunch is now so abundant that you may end up finding one near where you'll be! This Broken Yolk is situated in a pretty big shopping center and therefore has plenty of parking and serves as a great place to stop by for errands. With a supermarket just across the lot, you'll get your brunch and shopping in before noon. Known for its breakfast and brunch items, Broken Yolk will have all the classics you expect but also some hearty plates like fried and grilled steak. Each of their plates are generous. Most of the dishes come with eggs cooked in the style you desire, as well as a choice of bread, which includes your typical white, wheat, and sourdough, but also biscuits, muffins, and tortilla. Sides can also be opted as hash browns, fries, fruit, rice, and beans (black or refried). When you arrive, there may be a wait but given that this location is further away from downtown, you should be able to get a table pretty quick. Do keep in mind though that parties of eight or more will automatically incur a gratuity on the meal. If there is a wait, for one dollar you can grab a club and ball and go mini golfing in their private room. It's definitely geared towards kids to occupy them during long wait times, but I can see it being fun for adults too. Once you are seated, staff will present you with menus and offer waters to get you situated. They have their standard menus as well as the lighter brunch menu that includes smaller portions. Consider perusing through the menu and finding your drinks first. They have quite a few items on their menu including alcohol, but should you decide to drink coffee, their refills are free. I settled on the chicken fried steak and eggs with a side of hash browns and a biscuit. The meal was huge and definitely enough to serve as the intended combined breakfast and lunch. The steak was smaller than I'd expect but it was crispy, tender, and smothered with delicious gravy. The biscuit was fluffy and almost like a giant loaf of bread. I'd prefer it more crumbly but it soaked the gravy and over easy eggs really well. The hash browns were cooked perfectly! The dining space is well lit and vibrant with life. Patrons and staff roaming the aisles to and from their tables fill the room with energy. Despite all this, the spacing of the tables worked well and allowed small and large parties alike to enjoy their meal and conversations. The staff were friendly, helpful, and efficient. There was an instance of a missed coffee but it was resolved right away. Overall, Broken Yolk Cafe is a great brunch spot to grab a bite, meet some friends, or dine with the family. The menu has a bit of everything for everyone and the service is respectable. This location in particular was relaxed due to ease of parking and lack of crowds. When it's time to break bread, consider breaking a few yolks too at the Broken Yolk Cafe!

I've been to this BYC location several times over the year and it's pretty consistent. Seating can sometimes take a little bit if they're understaffed, but it's not a huge deal. I came here yesterday morning and we were seated almost immediately. Our server was polite and super on top of things. Our food came out pretty fast and was steaming. I ordered the lemon ricotta pancakes which were delicious but just a touch dry. I wish they had included more whip cream or something to make them a little more moist. I feel like the prices are a little high for average quality. They have several menu options with half size portions which is a great alternative for people who don't eat a whole lot, but I felt the prices were still a bit high. A half portion of their Benedict, so one instead of two, was $9.99. Overall we had a great breakfast and great service. We will definitely have to give Broken Yolk another try.

After Sunday pickleball and got on their waitlist approximately 10:30a. We were a party of 8 and were seated in the patio. 30 minute wait wasn't bad as we arrived in separate cars. Our server was friendly and helpful. She helped me with my selection of two types of Benedict's - Sope Benedict & Smoked Salmon Benedict. Both delicious but wouldn't order both of them together next time. I dined on the smoked salmon and took the sope to go. We did ask one of the servers who helped delivered our food if he could turned down the heat. He acknowledged the request (I had to repeat it) but it wasn't turned down. I should have asked our table server

Today I went here for a cute date and was greeted and seated almost instantly. The menu is massive with so many different options also with the friendliest staff members. I will be coming back fs and making this my usual spot to try out all the menu items. Today I got the dirty iced chai & a Nutella fruit crepe. It was really nice and homey. The crepe is a doughy texture which takes a minute to egg use to but it's still overall amazing.

Empty restaurant with 5-10 minute wait for breakfast at 8:15 am.

Service and wait time were terrible. My wife and I tried to celebrate an annual tradition of first day at school drop off before work. On the way, my wife checked online and there was no wait. When we arrived the place was maybe 25% full. The hostess told us there would be a 10 minute wait. We would've been fine sitting at a table with coffee for 10 minutes until a server was ready. Just complete bullocks.

It's been a little while since we've been here but we liked the renovations! Seating was fast, service was friendly and prompt, and food came quickly. Had the Greek omelette and it was very well balanced egg-white omelette with the feta, olives, and spinach. Good flavor and not underdone. Had it with a pre-buttered English muffin and fruit. Fruit was very fresh and delicious! Tableware was an interesting assortment when we arrived but they fixed that up no problem. You need to ask for everything you want (eg. water, straw, spoons, etc), but they will happily get anything for you. Wife's omelette was very heavy on the bell peppers even though spinach was featured in the title of the omelette. All in all, like the place, the food, and the staff. Just a few little minor easily fixable details is all. Would definitely return for more!

The staff were all very polite, friendly, and quick, which made the experience even better. I ordered an Iced Vanilla Latte for $6, and while I wouldn't call it the best coffee I've ever had, it was genuinely good especially for that price in San Diego. They also have espresso, pour-overs, cold brew, matcha, and several specialty drinks if you're looking for something beyond a standard latte. Then there's the dessert case, which is honestly dangerous if you don't have any self-control. The café is beautiful, the atmosphere is warm and inviting, and the food looked decent. I was actually excited to try everything. Unfortunately, the experience was overshadowed by our interaction with one employee, Angelika. There were only a few pastries left, so I politely asked if there were any more in the back or if additional pastries were being baked. Her response was simply, "No," but it was the dismissive and condescending tone that stood out. Throughout our interaction, her responses felt short, cold, and passive-aggressive. When our order was ready, she placed the plate on our table without saying anything and walked away. She later came back to collect the table number and again didn't say a word. I understand these may sound like small things, but basic hospitality goes a long way--something as simple as "Enjoy" or "Have a great meal" makes customers feel welcomed. This was especially disappointing because Hinar is a Kurdish café, and I was genuinely looking forward to experiencing the warmth and hospitality that Middle Eastern culture is known for. Unfortunately, our interaction felt like the complete opposite. Thankfully, another employee, Yama, was completely different. When we shared our concerns with him, he was respectful, professional, and genuinely kind. He handled the situation exactly the way you would hope someone representing a business would. Yama was a great reflection of what the customer experience should be. My wife also mentioned that she had experienced a similar situation with Angelika during a previous visit. Her friend had asked whether the matcha foam could be mixed into the drink. Angelika immediately said they couldn't do it. When they explained that another employee had done it for them previously, she responded that he wasn't supposed to. They then asked Yama, and he happily said, "Sure, no problem," and accommodated them. That kind of inconsistency is frustrating as a customer. Unfortunately, things got even more uncomfortable during our visit. While my wife and I were sitting down enjoying our drinks and cheesecake, we noticed Angelika repeatedly staring at us. At one point, she motioned for me to come over with a "come here" hand gesture without saying anything. I found that extremely disrespectful and uncomfortable. As a paying customer, I shouldn't feel like I'm being summoned or treated as though I've done something wrong. I approached her calmly and asked if there was an issue. I explained that I felt her customer service throughout our visit had been poor and unprofessional. Her response was, "I'm just giving you the same energy you were giving me." That honestly surprised me because I don't believe I had been rude or disrespectful to her at any point. I asked a couple of simple questions and expected the same basic courtesy that any customer should receive. I've worked in customer service and sales for years, so I understand that dealing with the public isn't always easy. At the same time, I know how much customer service matters. Employees are the face of a business, and unfortunately, one negative interaction can completely change someone's impression of an otherwise beautiful establishment. The café itself has a lot going for it--the space is beautiful, the food was decent enough, and Yama was excellent. But based on our experience, I think management should seriously address the way customers are being treated by certain staff members. I hope this review is taken constructively because I would genuinely like to see Hinar Café succeed. It's a beautiful place with a lot of potential, and with the right customer service, it could leave people with a completely different and much more positive impression.
