Cute store and very friendly and helpful staff. Great alternative to going to driving 2+ hours to H Mart or Uwajimaya. I was surprised the variety of goods in such a small store. Drinks, desserts, ingredients, sauces....chinese, thai, Japanese, indian. Highly recommend this place. Only a few spaces in front, but you can park in the neighborhood behind the shop and walk. read more

What a surprise to find this tiny market hidden away in Newport. I was impressed with the variety of products they carried from Japan, China, Vietnam, Korea and India. While the overall selection is limited they have a little bit of everything. We walked out with a box of mochi ice cream, a can of Calpico, a bag of cinnamon, a package of soba noodles and tea. The charming owner has operated the store for nearly 20 years. She is quite amiable and talkative and offered us samples & candies as well as provided detailed information on products we had questions about. In addition to all the spices, herbs, snacks, rice, canned/frozen/packaged foods, beverages and teas they also carry dishes and Asian knick knacks. If you have shopped in Asian markets in larger cities you may be disappointed in the limited candy and chip selection but it's still quite impressive for a small market in a small town. read more

Mai also has a huge collection of Chinese herbs for sale and is very knowledgable about them all and she's super friendly, to boot! An excellent store. Looking for thai basil, curry leaves or galangal for a recipe? Check the refrigerated section. There is also a wide variety of Traditional Chinese Medicine remedies behind the counter. Went yesterday to this market. They have a wide variety of things. From snacks, gifts, trinkets, some plants, incense, to loads of other goods. I went in with my 2 year old daughter-which some people can be short when you bring in a toddler. But Mai was there and was so kind and friendly to her. This is the only Asian store here in Newport Oregon but it is packed of Asian goodness! Visit the back of the store and Mai has a lot of Asian kitchen wares (chopsticks; spoon; brooms; Asian brooms; cooking stuff that Asians use!) they're all here I'm telling you! You just need to widen your eyes and just keep browsing through her little store and you'll be impressed as to how much that store has to offer! From spices to noodles to good fancy quality rice! Fancy snacks and vegetables ingredient that you only see in Asian cuisine! This is a legit Asian store! Mai is a very nice lady. Mai's Asian is an absolute treasure tucked away in Newport! We were visiting from Goldendale, Wa. & I'd had a touch of food poisoning from the night before (watch that clam chowder, folks), and Mai was an absolute delight; kind, attentive, charming and sincerely interested in providing her customers with the best service possible. She gave me a cup of warm ginger tea to help with my leftover nausea as we stocked our basket with some of the unique and hard-to-find items from her awesome supply of asian-centric necessities. I dropped by this Asian market on my weekend in Newport and promptly fell in love with the shop/owner. No serious shopping, but 10 minutes of browsing yielded awesome take-home goodies such as Korean seafood pancake mix, instant 3 in 1 Vietnamese coffee packets, and an adorably crafted porcelain owl mug. I generally don't buy Asian kitsch/dishware (unless it's printed with owls- don't judge me! I liked owls before everyone else did!! *throws on a plaid shirt and pushes up rimmed glasses*), but the selection was unique and well-priced. In addition, the owl mug had no price tag, so Mai gave me a great discount. =) After chatting with me and ringing up my purchases, Mai further won my heart by sending me off with a handful of candy (guava fizz, coffee and ginger). i stop by this store every time I am in Newport. The owner, Mai is friendly and quite knowledgable about Chinese Herbs. If you go in with an ailment, she hooks you up! She also makes her own sauces for your foods that are to die for! I love her spicy Peanut Sauce. Very reasonably priced and there are many to choose from. Unfortunately I drove 17 miles to pick up some Japanese condiments and other Asian foods. But when I got to Mai's there was absolutely no place to park. Yes there were many open spaces but they were all marked reserved for other nearby establishments. As best I could determine is that Mai's only has two spots and they were both taken. I went around the block twice to no avail. I finally gave up and went up the street to Walmart. Not what I wanted but at least they have parking spaces. read more

We went to visit Newport and wanted to check out this cute little asian store nearby. We went in past closing time but the lady still allowed us to come in. We were going to pay with card but we'd be charged with a fee so she gave us a free drink and gave us a discount on our other snacks and gave us free candy. Mai's Asian Market is a treasure in Lincoln County. We stopped to get some shrimp chips, which were not available in any other store or market in Newport. While there, we met the owner who was very friendly and helpful. The store offers a wide variety of imported treasures that are unique and worth your time to stop by.
