Pretty disappointing experience @ Safeway in Newport, OR. This store was a ghost town with a lone employee and maybe one or two other customers. It was on the smaller side of Safeway stores, but clean and organized throughout. We stopped here on Sunday afternoon, St. Patrick's Day to get a sweet treat. The bakery section was underwhelming to say the least. They only had 3 or 4 containers of sugar cookies with key lime icing, one container of pistachio pound cake slices, and one decent looking slice of a layered cake with the holiday theme and I was interested in the latter, BUT the top wasn't shut and securely sealed to the bottom. So yeah, no one wants that. The only employee present in the store eventually showed up to the only lit register for us to purchase what we settled for, which was a small container of assorted cookies and a pint of ice cream. Stopped in on a beach trip and bought a few items. As I was leaving I reviewed by receipt and noticed two mistakes. I contacted the manager Tamera and let her know. She immediately reviewed the receipt and agreed that it was wrong. She was very polite and upbeat and refunded my money. Great customer service at Safeway. read more

I ordered a birthday cake for a one and two-year-old. I asked for primary colors and balloons for decorations . They said they would decorate it really cute for the small children and agreed to do primary colors. When I received the cake, It had lines of colors for the decorations; and green, orange and yellow colors. This is totally not what I wanted or expected. I left very frustrated but took the cake because I need it for the birthday party this afternoon. It looked like an attractive cake for adults in the fall. read more

The donuts were honestly some of the best ones I've had so soft and airy and sooo much frosting 10/10. The jojo' were just as good nice soft on the inside a little hard was on the out also 10/10 read more

Deli food is usually pretty good. Short staffed makes it unreliable to get what you want every day. Long lines usually. Friendly cashiers.

Normally I prefer Safeway. But today's experience was disappointing. I can in at 5 pm the seafood department wasn't "open" even though the lights were on and going at it was only 5:30 pm. All I wanted was a lobster tail that was a set price. The employee I asked about getting help apparently couldn't help me (although I will commend her for trying to find someone to help me) but disappointed that the manager that was on duty didn't come to help. I am pretty sure I could have done it my self if they would have let me. Guess mom no lobster for mom. read more

Although this Safeway in Newport, Oregon is a smaller footprint store, during my last shopping trip with my Darling Husband I was able to locate a Zero Sugar Reed's Ginger Beer (the taller single serving size). There were a few other people in this Safeway without masks on (not the Safeway staff) that I watched. Also, there were a few items that when I'm shopping at home... I would usually find a greater selection of. But, that's okay. It's a Safeway at the beach. I walked up to the Checkout and there were two slower moving lanes. The Cashier was courteous. I brought my reusable shopping bags with me. Before I paid for my purchases an older white woman in a seated shopping cart (a Marked cart- that's the name for those carts with a basket on the front) almost ran into and hit my Husband. I noticed that there were lots of other people shopping... especially on the aisles that I was shopping. There were a few items that I got to right before someone else who also wanted it/ them. I saw a cake with bite size pieces of brownies on top in the Bakery Department. And there were plenty of vegetables in the Produce Section to choose from. I was able to locate most of the items on my shopping list easily... because there are signs above each aisle. read more

Smaller platform Safeway so a decent wine selection but tons of beers to choose from. Decent produce and they do carry deitz & Watson meats which is nice. This store is fine nothing special and the usual Safeway deli selections. read more

usually a safeway shopper as retired seniors on a fixed income we pay close attention to posted prices. was overcharged on sale items & when we commented on this the cashier was rude said she didnt know the price of every item in the store of course not but she could check without an attitude.we did buy many sale items & were discrepancies with many. cashier was annoyed told me I had an attitude. Poor service, worst checkers ever! I'm absolutely appalled how they treated bruise and bagged my food. Not only did I have to sit there and re-bag everything I asked her to add something to the bag I was doing and she adamantly put it in another bag and said "already done, just deal" with the snuggest attitude. No one is available to help find anything they have a complete dis-regard for any integrity or respect. The WORST customer service, poorest selection and I would never waist your time. Newport has more than 5 places to get groceries, & this Safeway is the best. This Safeway has good prices, bakery is on top of it, and the deli looked good but havn't tried it. Has a wide selection of fruits and vegetables, and some I couldn't find anywhere else. read more

I took my niece in to Safeway in Newport because she has been wanting to have a night of roasting marshmallows & making s'mores. She said she had seen the whole package at Safeway for $5. It turns out that this was only a deal for a short time, but they still had the packages. She said something to the person who helped us find them, and he gave them to us for the special price, even though they hadn't been at the special price for a while. Today while grocery shopping, I had an issue that required help to empty my basket and load it into my car for me. The checker, manager and sacker were wonderful. Really helpful. They kept it quiet so my problem was quiet. Very nice to me. The sacker was very encouraging to me. read more

There aren't a ton of grocery store options in Newport. The Safeway has a decent selection is one of the better grocery stores in the area.

The produce is fresh and there is a great variety of products. Easy plentiful parking makes shopping there a joy.

Camping at Beverly Beach Oregon during the week of 6/24/16-6/30/16 we purchased some of our food supplies at this Safeways. Their produce department was fantastic with fresh & plentiful choices as was their deli( best smoked Provolone Cheese ever!). We purchased pastries from Safeways, for a few simple breakfasts, and they were very good. I took this picture of the Tart I had one time that made me want one everyday the rest of my life. These Tarts were that good! Fresh fruit was used on top of some creamy cheese substance (possibly Italian cheese) that sat in this perfectly made square crust. What sets this Tart apart is the very, very thin layer of dark chocolate which did not over power and enabled the crust to stay firm and flaky rather than becoming moisture laden. Newport Oregon's Safeways is a great choice for anyone wanting food supplies for camping, a day on the beach or a late night snack in one of the many hotels there. read more

Just cruising up Hwy 101, Newport, Oregon. Need a loaf of bread. Hesitate: should I go to little local market just north or Safeway. Snap decision. Safeway will be WAY cheaper. Buy bread. Seems pricey at $3.69, ask cashier if price is correct, she calls bakery, they confirm price is correct. I leave a little puzzled. Stop by Agate Beach Market to check their price. I'm retired and have time. ABM price, same exact loaf of Franz Bread is $2.25. I am pissed. I buy from Safeway Bozeman All The Time. Done with Safeway. What a rip. read more

I would like to update my previous review of this store. Although my assessment 6 months ago I feel was appropriate at that time, over the last several months there has been a dramatic and positive transformation of this store. Management changed, and along with that the quality of every aspect of operations has improved. Customer service is positive, helpful, friendly and courteous. Product is stocked and prices are reasonable. The bakery is awesome, and specifically Jason, the store manager has done a fabulous job in turning things around. Kudos and well done. I enjoy shopping here again! read more
