First and foremost, the proximity from this location to my house is stellar. I've always hated going the extra miles for my boba/smoothie fix, so I was really excited to see these guys be placed so conveniently on 1464. I've visited quite the many times these past few months and I tried REALLY hard to like this place, but each time it just seemed to get progressively worse. One of my more recent visits though is what compelled me to write this review. I got a taro smoothie with tapioca. Sounds hard to mess up right? I'm not sure what went wrong, but my drink was incredibly starchy and every gulp was unsatisfying as the next. I would absolutely commend them if they used and blended real/fresh taro root as opposed to the powder mix, but it needs to blend thoroughly. I had chunks upon chunks of "taro" which is actually kind of ironic as a smoothie should be exactly that; smooth. Additionally, it wasn't as sweet as I'm accustomed to, but I'll just blame that on milk ratio (because I'm not sure if they have measuring requirements.) One of my friends ordered the egg rolls and concluded that either they were frozen or were fried too hard since the filling was entirely too crispy and dry. I had the spicy (it's spicy y'all) calamari, which wasn't too bad, but definitely would have preferred maybe... less batter? Just a suggestion. I was fighting tooth (literally) and nail to get through the excessive coating of the squid. I still enjoyed it though. In the end, a couple of other friends just said their drinks were alright and that it didn't have them fawning over their beverages. Nevertheless, I returned yet again just a couple of days ago to get a red bean smoothie. I have to mention, the ambience of the establishment is extremely modern and pleasant. When I arrived, there was a family in front of me that had placed a huge order and the person/female/cashier who was working the register had my smoothie prioritized and out first so that I didn't have to wait, which I greatly appreciated. Their customer service cannot be faulted, as it is impeccable, and I actually enjoy lounging around whenever I get the opportunity. But like the last time, the drink fell flat for me. The smoothie was filled with red bean husk and ended up separating rather quickly this time, even with me vehemently swirling it and the sweetness could barely be noted. I think I just have bad luck with tapioca smoothies here. If my friends ever decide to frequent this place again, I'll probably make-do with just a snack next time and stick to my old teahouses for the drinks. read more

I returned to this location with my friends earlier this week and fancied an order of their "Mai's Fries". The first time I ate these, they were actually quite a delightful treat, however, this pitiful facade was only meant to conceal a much more gruesome event that was soon to approach. The look of utter disgust materialized upon my face once I had taken my initial bite and realized that the batch of fries they had served me were rancid and stale. They possessed the texture of a Dixon Ticonderoga pencil that I have purchased from the Walgreens across the street. It was almost as if they had taken fries from the local high school and baked them into a deplorable tree branch they denominated a 'french fry'. It appears that I have given them their second chance, and they have brought me only unmitigated dissatisfaction. read more

I highly recommend this spot if you are in the area, even if you're not. Great spot to drop in for a sandwich and tea. I myself had the BBQ pork and it was hands down the best I've had. I ordered a cookies and cream drink which I couldn't put down. The atmosphere is great with comfortable seating and good music playing. Staff was super friendly and helpful with any questions I had. I ended up ordering a few extra sandwiches to go so the family could try out. I will definitely be back to try more items on the menu. read more

This might be my new favorite tapioca shop! I fell in love with the Mai's Fries. They were to die for, only thing I have to say is that I wish the meat on there were bigger and the cilantro was chopped finer. But other than that I had no complains. The combination sandwich was great. The durian smoothie I had was delicious and the flavor was good. My brother liked his matcha milk tea and the Mai's Fries too (he is very picky) and my sister loved her strawberry kiwi drink too. Overall, great great great! The egg rolls were very good! They were kind enough to give me a few of the popping bubble things(sorry I don't know the name) in a sample cup for my toddler who loves them! Let me start by saying I try having bubble tea wherever I travel to and I've been to many cities. Mai's tea house is great and friendly when it comes to customer service however their tea feels watered down, especially their black tea. It's great if you're dieing for some tapioca tea however they need to improve on taste. It's got plenty of sugar but not sure if that's because they're trying to compensate for a weak base? I've tried their tea several times because of convenience but had to stop because their tea's consistently were not strong. Green, black, or milk. Just was not satisfied. Even their Vietnamese coffee was not as strong and you get to tell them how strong you like it. I hope this changes as they're great folks and wish them lots of luck! read more

This place has the best tasting smoothies around. The shredded chicken sandwich and the barbecue sandwich is delicious, I go there every few days because Mai's Teahouse is r. I started with a Strawberry Kiwi green tea (delicious), decided to try the Mais fries (flavor blast) , and finished with the Fried Oreos ( perfectly made). Decide to try this place, since Kim's teahouse is out of the way, and boy do I regret it. Ordered a Vietnamese coffee blended, which was ok, and then a BBQ pork bahn mi. I saw that the lady would microwave the meat! Who does that?! I could be wrong and not know that's normal, but I haven't seen it done elsewhere. It's usually fresh from what I've experienced in other places. The flavor of the meat was blah and just not great. Finally a boba and banh mi place on FM 1464. I had high hopes for this place. I ordered a honey green tea with boba and found it to be just ok. Boba was definitely fresh (soft and chewy) and the honey green tea was ok, not as refreshing as I expected. Not sure maybe they use powder for the tea but flavor was just off. I ordered a bbq pork and a combination sandwich and thought they could have been better. The biggest complaint was that the bread was not toasted enough like it needed like another few minutes and it would have had the right crispness to it. Not sure how to describe the flavor on the bbq pork but it doesn't taste like the usual bbq pork that you get at other banh mi places. The combination sandwich was highly disappointing because Im guessing the day I came they ran out of one the meats that typically goes in the sandwich SO they decided to be "slick" about it and put a THICK sliced piece of one of the other meats AND topping it off with too much pate and it was no bueno. Having the right combo of meats make a difference and having it sliced correctly makes a difference. I wish they would have told me "hey we're out of this meat, are you ok if we substitute it with one of these other meats" and let me decide if I wanted it or not. I probably give them one more try before crossing them off my list; they're fairly new and there's room for improvement. read more

Rude and actually irresponsible. I ordered the Mai's Fries and ranch chicken nuggets. The staff member at the counter mistakenly put the order to go, which he put into styrofoam containers. I reminded him it was "to stay" and I transferred the food into baskets. Then I saw the badly melted styrofoam containers. I brought this to the attention of the staff members, explaining that they should not serve melted styrofoam with their food. One woman behind the counter (Mai?) was very rude as I suggested she place a piece of paper or foil to line the container first, before placing freshly fried food. Forget apologizing. I went to this location today in order three slushies neither one of them had any flavor. I return them back to the store to the cashier advised the cashier that they had no flavor they told me that's how they're supposed to taste. I talked to the manager she said that's how it's supposed to taste and maybe you ordered the wrong thing. After talking to the manager for 5 minutes and explaining how disgusting they were I ended up leaving all three slushies on the counter with no refund and no replacement they didn't even offer worst customer service I've ever had at a business. Has the word "Tapioca" in it's name BUT you have to pay EXTRA $0.50 to get it in your smoothie. Was going to try the lemongrass beef banh mi but the young cashier said it's spicy, so I opted to get the marinated tofu instead only to get greeted by a freaking heat at the first bite (did not even bite into a jalapeño). Banh mi was soggy. The "marinated" tofu looked and tasted like they started marinating it the moment I ordered. No wonder they were empty when I walked in.
