Cute bakery and coffee shop in the middle of downtown MV. It's right across the street from Alexander's Patisserie, so you have a lot of yummy places to choose from in the same area! This is the perfect place to hang out with friends after a meal in downtown MV. Their pastries are beautiful and tasty. I got the hazelnut hot chocolate and it reminded me of Angelique's in Paris, France -- it's the thick hot chocolate that's so thick it's like melted chocolate. This is a perfect drink to pair with a plain latte or coffee so things aren't too sweet. One small detail I wish they did better is to label their pastries. Every patron that came in had to ask the poor employee over and over again to describe each pastry since there were no descriptions. I'm surprised they didn't get tired of repeating themselves, lol. This is one of our main go-to place for French bakeries. Their offering are solid. Also, one of the best places for Paris Brest and Galettes des Rois. Their desserts are wonderful as well as their viennoiseries. And the people are amazingly easy to work with not to mention their operating hours are very convenient. If you are looking for French desserts and pastries, this is the better bakery. NOT the one across the street. The service was very sweet, and made small talk while I waited for them to get my order together. Fraisier - Vanilla creme mousseline, sponge cake, and marzipan. It's hard for me to find marzipan in the South Bay, and it was a great contrast to the light, fluffy sponge cake layers. Tiramisu - The crust was thin, and the inside was creamy and gooey. The individual size is perfect for two people to share for a quarantine birthday special. Next Time Try: All of the cakes! All of their tarts are amazing and delicious each one is a perfect balance of flavors topped with heaping amounts of fruit. Besides their tarts they also offer the Passiano which is a lovely little sponge cake topped with jam and encased in a passion fruit mousse. The baguette and the country loaf are also amazing here and are great with just a little butter and salt. I'll often stop by here once or twice a week just to pick up some fresh loaves. read more

The best bakery in the Bay Area. So many of the desserts are 10 out of 10 delicious (harmony, paris brest, etc.) but my favorite is the Delice. The items are expensive but worth it. Although I would come more if the prices were lower. There are four other bakeries within a few blocks, which I tried but they don't compare. So I keep coming back. I wish they could add gluten-free desserts so I could come here with gf friends, and vegan raw cakes because I like those. It is fun that they rotate the selection so there is always something new to try. You won't be disappointed trying any of the small cakes or a baguette. I haven't tried the cookies, macaroons, croissants or chia pudding. The seating is cute, and you can sit indoor or outdoor. The staff are ok. read more

Our friends brought us here for breakfast. They said here has the best croissants ever. And I totally agree after I tried it. It was soooooo crunchy outside and soft & buttery inside. I had a classic croissant and my friend had an almond croissant. My husband ordered a cheesy egg bread breakfast with ham in it and salad on the side. It's really delicious. By far it's my favorite chocolate croissant next to Arsicault in SF as well as Tartine but hey, I'm not driving to SF on a daily for carb cravings. I generally dont like almond croissants but this is the most delicious, soft and real almond tasting croissant I've ever had. The filling is not loaded with sugar like most places so it lets the pastry and the almond flavor profile be the star. Desserts: I've never come here and NOT get the chocolate torte. Yes, it's pricy. Yes, it's small. YES IT'S WORTH EVERY PENNY FOR EVERY BITE! The quality of the chocolate is divine, the perfect crunchy layers in between gives this torte a lovely texture. While the prices are high, the quality is there; at least for the pastries and viennoiseries. I go there regularly for their individual sized pastries, their croissants and other viennoiseries, and the last 2 years I've had their buches de Noel which were very tasty too. Their bread is also good. The drinks are average, and the service a little hectic (but the staff is very friendly). They also do a great job abiding by COVID protocol. They currently have outdoor seating on Castro street, and it's been a pleasure stopping by early some mornings to just sit outside and enjoy a cup of coffee and pastry to start my day. I usually order a croissant (my favorites are the plain and almond croissants), but have tried some of their other pastries, like the tarts, Kouign Amann and their seasonal/experimental pastries. Maison Alyzee seemed so promising... I read that the owner recruited three pastry chefs from France with prestigious backgrounds who trained under renowned chefs. We're talking renowned chefs from three Michelin starred restaurants which is a big deal. Given the pedigree of the chefs, I was hoping to be enamored and to have a 5 star experience because let's face it, Silicon Valley's food scene (sans Asian food) needs to catch with San Francisco's....minus stepping over poop towers to get there. Perhaps my friend and I ordered the wrong items or perhaps we're spoiled by all the fantastic bakeries in San Francisco like Arsicault, B. Patisserie, Craftsman & Wolves, Neighbor Bakehouse, and Tartine but we had a really disappointing experience at Maison Alyzee. On the menu are baked goods (croissants, brioche, kouign amann), pastries (mille feuille, choux, éclair, cakes), tarts, macarons, soups, salads, sandwiches, omelettes, and quiches. Kid's menu available. Tea and coffee. A test of any good French bakery is their butter croissant but Maison Alyzee was sold out by 11:40 am so I thought the Kouign Amann ($5) would be the next best thing to get: https://bit.ly/2M1BPC0. I agree with Irene C. that the ordering system needs to be better streamlined. Currently, there's one cashier who takes orders, rings customers up, and grabs their pastries. VERY inefficient. There were two other ladies preparing drink orders. A friendly suggestion (during peak hours): consider having two people taking and putting together orders, one person preparing drink orders, and one person ringing up customers. The ladies behind the counter were polite and trying their best so props to them. There were no utensils and napkins at the respective stations so I asked one of the ladies for some. The owner came over asking, what I was looking for and said, he would bring some out. He seemed annoyed, like I was inconveniencing him. Later on, I saw him checking in with certain tables and he was super friendly, warm, and gracious towards them. I may have caught him at the wrong moment but my interaction with him made me feel unwelcome and hesitant to return. Clean, minimalist Parisian atmosphere with lots of natural light in the café. Indoor and dog-friendly outdoor seating. My experience at Maison Alyzee may be a one off and given the lack of good bakeries and cafes in the area (I think nearby Alexander's Patisserie is just ok), I'm sure they'll do very well in Mountain View. On the pricy range $10ish/cake but everything I tried had been good (3 visits so far but will be coming back for more). The mousse on all the cakes is smooth, light and the taste is refine and balance. The sweet is balanced with sourness for example in Passiano (blackberry - passion fruit). Tiramisu was good and what you would expect from it. Harmony was our favorite as it is nutty, chocolatey but the portion was just right and the sweetness wasn't overpowering so you can still taste every layer. We also tried a cake that had strawberry and coconut. Interesting combo but actually it created an elegant taste to my surprise. Not a big fan of coconut but this wasn't bad at all. Before covid, we met the owner (?) and he was friendly and passionate talking about the cakes he made. That was a big plus for me and hoping that the business would survive through this tough time The only downside is that their selection is small (although curated and yet to be disappointed). We got just one desert and a coffee - both were extremely good. The desert, Harmony, was truly remarkable - a cute glossy ball full of absolute yumminess! I honestly didn't expect layers upon layer of textures and flavors - every bite brought something different! It was also very pleasantly sweet, but not super-sweet - just right! Long term customer - service consistently pisses people off. They need to do a better job training the staff, and this is my observation over the past years. This place used to be amazing especially when the owners used to run it themselves. The staff doesn't do a good job serving orders in a first come first served basis. Today I saw a customer so angry because he reminded them about his dine-in order multiple times yet I saw at least 4 other to-go drinks which were placed after his get served first. Every time I'm there to place a to-go order someone cuts the line because the signage isn't clear and the staff doesn't pay attention either. I say all this just hoping the owners read and make improvements to both how they train the staff and the quality control, yet I give it a 4 star because of amazing selection of great pastries. The consistency and quality of these has unfortunately gone downhill as well. The berry danishes are no long as crunchy and tasty (at least the last 3 times I tried), and I don't know what happened to their signature Passionfruit piece. They make you wait forever. The food is good though. I've waited more than 20 minutes for a sandwich TWICE.

The pain au chocolat is good, the almond croissant is AMAZING *___* , the chocolate chip cookie could use a little salt, and the kouign amann was okay. I've tried the finer desserts (which tastes great btw) here but the almond croissant is what moved me to write this place a review. All croissants are flaky here, but the reason why I like the almond croissant is because it doesn't taste like any other almond pastry I've tried. It doesn't have that weird artificial almond tasting additives (which I loathe, I like almonds though). It's not too sweet and it's not dry at all. It has a nice thin sweet almond crusted top which adds another dimension to the buttery flakey crunch you get from biting into the almond croissant. And sandwiched inside the croissant is a nice layer of almond filling that just perfects the pastry in its entirety. MMMM! As soon as I stumbled upon Maison Alyzee, I knew I couldn't leave without trying 1 or 2, or let's be honest, a box, of their pastries. On my most recent trip, we picked up some croissants (original, double chocolate, and triple chocolate), a kouign aman, a pistachio dessert (I think it's the 100% Pistachio), and a Strawberry & Vanilla tart. The kouign aman was just okay--a tad dry and chewy (perhaps it was overbaked), but everything else was pretty darn perfect. It's hard to choose between a breakfast pastry and dessert, but if you opt for their triple chocolate croissant, you don't have to! The triple chocolate croissant was made for anyone with a chocolate obsession, and for me, it was the perfect amount of chocolate. The plain croissant was out of this world-- incredibly flaky, buttery, and made with an infinite number of laminated layers. We took these home and warmed them slightly and it was divine. Both the 100% Pistachio and the Strawberry & Vanilla Tart were stars in their own right. The vanilla cream in the Strawberry & Vanilla Tart was velvety smooth and intoxicatingly fragrant. The tart crust, which held up despite being in the fridge all day only further exemplified their staff's pastry finesse. However, if I really had to choose between these two, the 100% Pistachio takes the cake for me. I loved how much pistachio was concentrated into this palm-sized dessert. From the biscuit to the cream and the praline, that pistachio really shone through. I've never loved pistachios more. Whether you're looking for a weekend morning pick-me-up, a post-dinner indulgence, or something to win over that special someone in your life, Maison Alyzee is THE place. Well this was disappointing. First day that outside seating is open in the Bay Area and Maison Alyzee is clearly not what it once was. Ordered a smoked salmon platter and eggs... at $18.50 for the salmon platter we expected what they normally served... a large platter with a few slices of toasted bread, served with accompaniments. What we were served was a few small pieces of salmon, two tiny slices of burnt toast and no tomatoes or chives as they advertised. On top of that we ordered two soft boiled eggs. What was served to us was inedible. The eggs were scorching hot had not been peeled, or even put in cold water after being boiled so we could peel them. Given it's a crazy time for small businesses, we ate what we could and didn't go back in as to not violate social distancing, but I would not recommend coming here unless it is for the pastries. Those are incredible but the attention to detail in their other items, is just not fair given the price point. read more

Oh my my!! What deliciousnesssssssss! I stumbled upon this place while walking on Castro streets late last year. This is my favorite dessert place since! Must try is passiano, the passion fruit dessert. I had never tried anything like this before so wasn't sure what to expect but to my surprise, it's full of flavor: creamy, citrus-y and ultra light.
