The sourdough has a hearty crust and a soft and moist center. Absolutely loved it. Wished I could had time to buy a loaf to bring back with me. Guava and cheese danish: I wished I bought more. Cute bakery on the heart of Town & Country Village with speedy service and tasty treats. My partner and I grabbed a quick breakfast here on the weekend and were all around quite impressed. We split their zucchini and ricotta tart for a savory bite and the chocolate croissant as a baseline comparison vs. other bakeries we've tried. Both were super buttery and flakey, and I was quite impressed by the lamination on the croissant. My favorite bite had to be the tart, though -- the slightly sweet fresh zucchini went wonderfully with the buttery pastry and rich, creamy ricotta. The zucchini was tender but still had a bit of snap to it, which made for a fun combo of textures. There's not really any space to sit inside, but you can take your pastries out to one of the tables outside. I've tried several baked good from them and they're really not that great. The latest thing I tried was thier chocolate chip cookie. This was the WORST cookie I've ever eaten. I'd rather have a chips'ahoy or other packaged cookie over this. It was crumbly, flavorless and just plain not good. Discovered Manresa Bread in Campbell, which always has a long line, so I was happy to see no line at this Palo Alto location. It probably varies by day of the week/time but stopped by early on Saturday ~10am and there was no wait. There's no seating indoors but there's a few tables directly outside or you can probably walk around the plaza and find a bench somewhere. Walked in and love how all the pastries are displayed. Everything look so tasty! Got the hot matcha latte with oat and it's one of the more tasty matcha I have had. Also got the avocado toast - whatever greens they have on top is yummy with that lemon zest! I know avocado toast is a bit different everywhere but I do wish the avocado was smashed but ofc there's utensils for that and I smashed it myself. The smoked salmon toast was also good. 2 Stars for Underwhelming Pastries and Service We have picked up bread from Manresa a few times, and it's been decent. Since I've had their croissants at Verve Coffee, I figured maybe they just weren't fresh there - so I decided to try them straight from the source. Honestly, I was disappointed. The croissants had no crispness, no flakiness, and none of that buttery depth you expect from a really good one. The chocolate croissant was overbaked and tasted burnt and bitter, the blueberry coffee cake was way too sweet, and the monkey bread was decent but way too sweet for my taste. Overall, the pastries tasted more like something you find at a grocery store or a chain coffee shop, not an artisanal bakery with Manresa's reputation. The packaging didn't help either. The to-go pastries were carelessly packed, with the monkey bread stacked directly atop the croissant, crushing it in the process. And the service felt a bit careless. Despite repeating my name and spelling it it multiple times, the staff still managed to misspell and mispronounce it - a small detail, but emblematic of the overall indifference in service. So all of them combined made the whole visit feel kind of flat. Parking is available right in front, but it can be tough to find a spot when the plaza is busy. No interiors seating fyi. read more

I wonder why Manresa is getting such low stars! We've been to the one in Los Gatos and today we went to the one in Palo Alto and this one I love! It's a big store so there's space and you can see all the goodies and there were so many goodies! We got the Kouign Amann and a lemon shortbread cookie. Both were absolutely delicious. The service was good. The vibe was right and I really liked there were so many things you could buy in the store. I recently had an absurd interaction here. I ordered a turkey sandwich and I wanted to add onions to it. They have onions on another sandwich so I asked if it was possible. The person taking my order said yes, but it would have to be on the side. I said are the sandwiches premade? She said no. I asked why they couldn't just put the onions on the sandwich? The person at the register said it has to be on the side, since we don't know how much onion you want. I said I don't care how much, can't you just put it on the sandwich for me please? I was told no. . So I watched them make my sandwich, and take out a large togo container and put three rings of onion in it. I could see them making my sandwich. They could've just asked me how much onion I wanted. Instead, this establishment wasted a togo box with a tiny bit of onion in it and then made me add it to my own sandwich. I really appreciate that Manresa has decent labeling on their items in the display, which is really helpful for folks with food allergies and dietary restrictions (and I am technically both). In the past I have really enjoyed what I've gotten here, from sandwiches to pastries and especially the Levain bread. My most recent loaf of Levain, however, was oddly hard and tasted especially burnt on the bottom, which was really disappointing. It was actually difficult to cut (even with a sharp serrated bread knife) with just how crunchy it was, like attempting to saw a large, round cracker. It was even harder to eat, and I definitely ended up with a little blood in my mouth (I'm nothing if not determined, and I can't stand wasting food). I assume it's a one-off, but it was quite a disappointment given that I rarely get nice baked goods and had picked this loaf up as a treat for myself, so I guess I will be wary of my next loaf. A good cafe and bakery, but maybe take a hard look at the bread loaf on display and if it's looking darker than usual, steer clear. (Although the display loaf wasn't nearly as dark as the one I received, I do remember it looking a little darker than usual.) read more

My go to order is the monkey bread latte and so far it's been consistent for me. My only complaint was that my wife's drink wasn't made with a milk alternative even though I had mentioned it. In general, the staff is friendly, kind, and will acknowledge you, which I feel like is a lost practice when it comes to customer service. The viennoiserie (French for croissants and laminated pastries) is excellent--buttery, flaky, and light. The kouign-amann is the standout: crisp, caramelized outside with soft, layered richness inside. I tried the large kouign-amann once (about $30). It was great, especially warmed up with a custardy center, but I still prefer the regular size--better texture, more crispy edges, and less of a commitment. Come early. I was in the area and craving a coffee and baked good. There are so many options at Town & Country but I haven't been here for a while so I just decided to give it a go. The young woman working behind the counter was friendly, respectful, and professional. She tried to connect with each customer while also being very efficient. It was a little disappointing to see the guy who was making the coffee interact with her as he appeared a bit rude or dismissive when she came to share the orders. Unfortunately, all the drinks are presented in takeout containers. While it's not the best way to enjoy an espresso it hit the spot and at least the container is compostable. The pistachio and lemon bread really caught my eye, but I had a slice of lemon loaf earlier in the week so I opted for the chocolate banana bread. The aforementioned woman working at the counter was quick to point out that it contained coconut, checking to see if I had allergies. The coconut was one of the things that pulled me in... the cake itself definitely balanced the banana and chocolate flavors. It add some moist to it, I personally would've liked a bit more. While there are no tables indoors, there are plenty of spaces to sit outside including the bakeries own tables as well as lots of public seating around the shopping center. read more

Palo Alto Manresa is a step below the LG and Campbell locations. The staff is a bit disorganized and even the online order was delayed at least 5 minutes. There's no indoor seating but a few tables outside. The matcha latte was pretty good. They put in a decent amount of matcha powder and it wasn't overly sweet. The turkey sandwich was decent. They put in a good amount of turkey but they also had a lot of cheese and mayo making it a bit greasy. The bread was toasted but coated with that oil. The lamination process has clearly been perfected because the cross sections show a perfectly fluffy and airy interior with so many layers. The result is a light croissant with a soft buttery flavor profile. Any of their croissant-based pastries are sure to be a winner. Monkey bread- This was delicious and definitely tastes best the same day. the bread is a bit tough on the outside but the inside is soft and spongy with a nice caramelized toffee flavor. Service was nice and friendly. Although, one thing that can be improved is they have an enclosed bakery display since there were a lot of flies inside the store since the weather was quite warm and the staff aren't wearing masks. An enclosed bakery shelf would be a good idea for hygienic reasons. This plaza gets crowded especially during peak lunch and dinner hours so plan accordingly. Manresa is a great stop if you're looking for a snack or a sweet treat to cap off your night. read more

I have been coming to Marisa Bread for years. Over seven years now. I have always loved their pastries and service. The only minor issue I ever had was when I once received a burned pastry. I reached out that same day, and they told me the next time I came in I could get one for free. I really appreciated how they handled it, and it left me with a good impression. Today was very different. When I walked in, there were three other customers browsing the pastries. I was not greeted, which I brushed off at first because everyone has off days. After a while, I approached the cashier and said hello. He did not respond. I placed my order, he handed me what I asked for, I paid, and still not a single word. As I stood there grabbing some napkins, I noticed something that disturbed me. The other customers, who were white women, walked up and suddenly the same cashier greeted them warmly, smiled, and spoke with them. The difference was incredibly obvious. I wanted to say something in the moment, but I did not feel safe or comfortable doing so, especially given the climate we live in today. Instead, I am writing this review. I will also be contacting management directly because it was upsetting and disappointing to be treated with such disregard after years of being a loyal customer. read more

It's been a few years since I first tried this place so decided to revisit it again because I know they have Verve coffee which I do enjoy. They do a pretty good job on a oat milk capp but yikes $1.50 to add a bit of this to a capp is over the top expensive - most higher end places is somewhere between 50 cents to a buck max. Sigh I'm going to have to bring my own oat milk lol if I want a coffee fix here unless they change things - hard to swallow that mark-up for such a teeny amount. The monkey bread is really yum here - so do try that. The quiche slices look quite impressive but I haven't tried one yet - keep forgetting since they are to the far left and I only see it after I pay and wait for my coffee and move over to the left side of the store. This review is for their breakfast egg bacon and cheese sandwich. It was $13 which is definitely on the pricier end for breakfast sandwiches. The sandwich was on the larger side though. I thought the bread was okay. The contents of the sandwich weren't very good though. They give you a lot of bacon but the bacon was incredibly salty even by itself so having like five slices of bacon made it inedible. I did take a few slices out and was hoping to enjoy them by themselves but found them too salty. I love bacon and it's weird that it was that salty. The bacon itself was also a little on the thicker side, a little crispy but not as crispy as I would have like. The egg was basically an egg custard block which I really didn't want in my sandwich. It has that weird smooth consistency that I didn't like. I was getting nauseous the more I ate it. I was hoping for a fried egg or even a block of scrambled eggs would have been fine. I didn't know at that time that they were owned by the closed Michelin star restaurant and was surprised by the quality. I heard that Arsicault also wanted this spot. It is said that Arsicault's owner humbly said that he didn't get this spot because he probably was not good enough. Honestly, I have no idea how this bustling T&C could possibly support the traffic that his business brings. Since then, I tried Manresa's Los Altos location and it was bad. The Monkey Bread and Kouign Amann were both dry and ordinary. I thought that it was because they don't bake there in-house. So I came here again. Somehow they don't have the special Cheese Croissant. Everything is extraordinarily small and a bit stale. The Pain Au Chocolat was the only thing that looked decent, so that is what I purchased. I felt like I got bait-and-switch because they gave me not the one I pointed at in the counter, but a dried-crumbly one at the back. It tastes, dry, ordinary, and a bit greasy. Again, nice caramelized flavors. So tasty with a cup of coffee or tea. I found the pain au chocolat to be a bit of a letdown. It had no crispness on the outer shell. It was very soft and deflated gently. A bit dry on the inside. The chocolate was pretty thin in comparison to the size of the croissant. Flavor was average. I'd say skip the pain au chocolat.
