I visited GK Pastry & Sourdough at Main Street in Los Altos this morning and ordered an Americano with oat milk. The taste seemed unusual to me, so I politely asked whether the oat milk was fresh. I did not complain or ask for a refund--I simply wanted to make sure it was safe to drink. However, I was surprised by the response I received. I was told that I had complained before. I was quite surprised by the way the staff responded, as they appeared to take offense at my comment. I have never experienced this kind of response before. I felt that my simple question was not taken seriously and that I was treated unfairly. Also, after I mentioned that the taste seemed unusual, I was told that your Americano is not made with an espresso machine. My understanding is that an Americano is typically made with espresso and hot water, with milk added if desired. This added to my confusion about the taste. I understand that taste can be subjective, and I respect your confidence in your products. However, I believe customers should be able to ask a basic question without being made to feel uncomfortable. This experience was very disappointing, and I do not think I will be returning to purchase bread or other items in the future. read more

Our first visit to GK Pastry's in downtown Los Altos. There are limited seating available inside the bakery. We like the variety of both savory and sweet pastries. My favorites are the savory focaccia and the croissants. They have sourdough breads too, but the crusts are not the type I like. The service truly outstanding, we were quite full when we stopped by, but couldn't resist trying the focaccia. Ordered just half a slice and told the staff that we planned to share it, he was so kind to heat it up and cut it in half for us. I love that GK Pastry & Sourdough has expanded their locations! There are currently three locations in Palo Alto, Mountain View and now Los Altos. First time here in Los Altos and I love how every store front has a unique interior. This locations seems to target a more sit down setting with lots of tables to sit in, music playing, ideal spot to get some good sourdough/focaccia while getting your work done. I'm a big fan of focaccias and I believe GK Pastry & Sourdough sells the best in the Bay Area!I love getting the savory focaccia, you can either get a slice ($14) or half a slice ($7). I am a huge fan of GK pastry and have visted their other locations. This is their newest, and I am sure many more are going to open. As the name suggests, the sourdough bread is great, and I always pick up some. This time I also got the focaccia with artichoke and goat cheese which was delicious. I love how diverse their food is. They have French and Italian items, and they had pilaf from Central Asia. Very cool. I have always found the staff at all their locations friendly and helpful. read more

GK Pastry just opened a new location in Los Altos, and as someone who's already been to their Mountain View and Palo Alto spots, I knew it would be good. Still, this new one might be my favorite yet. It's bigger, brighter, and finally has tables--perfect for lingering with a coffee and pastry instead of just grabbing to go. The pistachio croissant is next-level. Nutty, flaky, buttery perfection--almost too good. I could honestly eat one every day (but probably shouldn't, for calorie reasons). Their focaccia is also excellent, the sourdough is legit, and the monkey bread is as dangerously addictive as ever. If I had one tiny note, it's that the milk foam on the latte could be a touch creamier. But overall, it's such a welcome addition to downtown Los Altos. read more

Amazing bakery. The shop is very clean and elegant. The man behind the counter was knowledgeable and answered all of our questions. He also gave suggestions and let us sample the napoleon cake, which was FANTASTIC. We got the almond danish, pistachio twist, slice of napoleon cake, and the jalapeño spinach focaccia all for to go. The almond danish was my favorite. It was not too sweet, and was flaky and baked perfectly. The pistachio twist was really good as well. It was sweet and flaky. The napoleon cake was so light, crispy, flaky, and creamy. It wasn't overly sweet and it was so good. I tried both the pistachio cake and the regular. I preferred the regular, but it he pistachio one was also really good. I enjoyed the focaccia too, but I didn't like the jalapeños on it (personal preference). I ended up taking the jalapeños off. Also, my sister in law doesn't like olives, and we didn't realize there was olives on it, so she took those off. Overall the bakery was amazing, and I can't wait to try more things from there. I'm so happy they're finally open! I stopped by yesterday and they were still adding some finishing touches but luckily it looked like their pastries were stocked. I tried their multi seed sourdough loaf and blueberry focaccia and both of these items were exceptional! I tend to stick to a savory focaccia but decided to try something new and I'm so glad I did. Everything was fresh and fluffy. The bakery is large and beautiful inside. The staff is friendly and welcoming. They're going to add a lunch menu, which I'm looking forward to trying. Oh gosh!!! This is an amazing addition to downtown Los Altos. I was walking past this morning and a man gleefully holding his bag told me, " You have to try the Monkey Bread... It's incredible" He happily told me what he had in his bag and I could tell he knew what he was talking about. This is a beautiful sleek shop and I absolutely am in love with it. I bought some crispy buttery pastries and a mushroom cheese focaccia. Well. The Monkey Bread was devoured by the time I got to Foothill Expressway. If I was still in town I would have remarked and bought a few more. This is serious and delicious. The pastries are perfectly baked and the best in Los Altos. I've tried all of the local pastry shops and no one comes close to fresh tasting perfect.y baked. The man at the counter was so gracious and helpful. After many months of construction, they're finally open! The new store is much more spacious and has lots of table seating, as well as a very long counter with cases to display their focaccia, breads, pastries, jar cakes, etc. It looks like they may also be doing salads and sandwiches or something, but I didn't have time to confirm this morning. The owner (the brother who was previously at the MV location) was there this morning, smiling and friendly as usual. This morning, they had 6 focaccia choices, and I went with the olive and tomato, which didn't disappoint. As always, I appreciate them asking if I want a middle or edge/corner piece. Like at the MV location, they have bread samples. I'll be back for bread soon - my kids love the tomato and cheese. I'm so happy the downtown Los Altos location is finally open! read more

Okay, I have to tell you -- the new pelmeni are SO good! Think meat-filled dumplings like Italian ravioli or Chinese dumplings, but with amazing Uzbek flavor. It reminds me of khinkali from Georgia or manti from Turkey, but with its own delicious twist. They're super filling, perfectly spiced, and the portion is just right (and you know I don't say that lightly!). Plus, they come in this comforting broth that makes everything even better. We got a large catering order from Doordash including some chicken samsa, a variety of jar cakes, and a few slabs of margherita foccacia. The chicken samsa was super juicy and filled to the brim with tender meat in a flaky shell - the best version of filled meat pastry I've had in a while. Highly recommend and reheats great in the air fryer. The margherita foccacia also tasty, very thick and well leavened with cherry tomatoes and cheese topping. We ended up dipping them into marinara sauce like cheese sticks for extra tomato flavor. I would pass on the jar cakes if you are looking for something cake-like - they are more like layered desserts with some crumb toppings but they don't have cake layers per se. For example, the apple pie cake jar is a bunch of finely minced apples and whipped creme topping, and the chocolate cake jar is mousse with some crumb layer in the middle. The packaging was well done and overall we were happy with our order. We will definitely continue to come here for the savory items. read more

The coffee hazelnut amaretti cookie did not taste like coffee. It's good if you like very sweet and nutty cookies. However, after a night in the fridge, the coffee flavor has become stronger. The focaccia and drinks are good too. They also sell sandwiches, soup and other quick lunch options which I have not tried. Cute little shop with tasty pastries. Came in on a Sunday at 2:30pm and it was empty, but they still had a decent selection of goods. We looked at the jar cakes first, and the worker (I believe it was the owner was behind the counter) offered to let us sample as many of them as we wanted. He was super generous and gave us each a huge spoonful of cake to try. None of the cakes were overly sweet and all the ones we tried had good flavor. We ended up settling on the pistachio and chocolate mousse cakes as our favorites. The chocolate mousse cake is particularly good because it has chocolate pearls, which added a lovely crunch. Their focaccias are large slices for $12 and all look amazing. We decided on the shiitake gruyère focaccia and loved it! It has great flavor and smells/ tastes like a pillowy pizza. 10/10- if you're getting anything from here, would absolutely recommend the focaccias. Besides that, we got an assortment of treats: a plain croissant, pistachio napoleon cake, a whole sourdough loaf & the blueberry crunch white chocolate bar. The sourdough has been great for eating on its own and sandwiches (duh) and while I'm not usually a fan of white chocolate, the slight tang from the dried blueberries and crunch from the rice krispies make it really good. I unfortunately couldn't eat the napoleon cake fresh, but even after a few days, it was still surprisingly crunchy! The one slight let down was the croissant-- it wasn't bad by any means, but it didn't have the best lamination (some of the layers inside were stuck together). Nonetheless, I was pleased with my purchases and will be sure to stop by again. read more

The beef sandwich, lamb Flov, and sourdough mozzarella and pesto focaccia was to die for! This is a nice Uzbekistan family who's putting out food from their heart. You absolutely must try the beef sandwich! It is spiced beef, cheese, onions in fresh sourdough bread. It's tucked in a little pouch. You don't see it on the menu, you have to ask. The dessert bread was far better than the mushroom bread. The mushroom version was mostly just bread, with very little actual mushroom flavor coming through--it felt like the mushrooms were barely there. That said, the bread itself tasted good and had a nice texture. In hindsight, I should have treated it as a side rather than the main dish.
