A super special night at a super special place. I've heard about this restaurant for a few years and have not had the opportunity before now to go. We went as a double date celebrating our anniversaries. Sadly we got ZERO pictures but everything was amazing. I got the redfish en papillote and a Pinot noir. Everything from presentation to taste was superb. My friend got the sweat bread dish and loved it. Hands down the creme brulee was the best dessert but the mango sorbet ran a close second! What a rare find! The food is delicious, and very reasonably priced. The staff is friendly and helpful, and the atmosphere is very relaxing. I loved it how we didn't feel rushed to place our order, and had time to just sit down and enjoy our drinks first. That was a nice change from most restaurants that rush you in and out the door. Tres Magnifique. Stopped in with a small group for desserts and an impromptu birthday party. I had the Crepes Suzette and they were splendid, suffused with warm orange liqueur. I only wish they would have served it flambe at the table to entertain the other guests in the dimly lit dining room. But no matter. All desserts were served with great efficiency by the pleasant and accommodating staff. They even served us an extra piece of dessert for the entire table to sample--their white chocolate bread pudding with whiskey butterscotch. Yum, yum, yum. The place was fairly busy for a night on which LSU football was on the television! One table of about 18 (yes, 18 around one table, it took up an entire dining room!), clearly was dominating the attention of the bustling waitstaff. Yet our servers were not at all flummoxed by our unusual request for desserts only, were eager to please, and gladly took photos of our party. Quite good. We had the artichoke heart with lump crab and hollandaise and also the escargot appetizers. Both great, but artichoke wins. As many have noted, John's Favorite is outstanding as was our salmon with mustard sauce. We also had flounder en pappiotte, which was the weakest of the 3, but still good. Quaint tucked away cottage with French cuisine in a quiet atmosphere with white tablecloths and impeccable service. I recommend the carb, shrimp, asparagus crepe with roasted potatoes and carrot, house salad, warm bread with individual pot de burre. When you place your entree order, i recommend you order the souffle dessert which will be ready to enjoy at the end of your meal. It's perfect for two ladies to split- or not! Let me start off by saying I loved the environment. So cute and quaint!! We need more restaurants like that in BR. It was reaalllyyyy quiet so I think I would probably leave the kids at home next time (not to mention they don't have a kids menu). The service was great. Nice and slow. Just the right amount of waiting between courses. Now let's get to the food. The sauce that came with the smoked salmon appetizer was delish. The app itself needed some more components (egg, capers, onion etx) and the plating was a little boring. The crabmeat on top of the artichoke heart with Hollandaise was enjoyed by everyone at the table but I thought it had a fishy taste. I like that the salad that came with the entree was good. The pickled onions were a nice touch. I had the scallops as my main meal. The sauce was good but they were small and Wayyyyyyy over cooked. Personally if it was just me dining there, I would've given three stars for my personal food experience. But, everyone else in my group thoroughly enjoyed their meal. They were out of the fish that normally came in the parchment bag so they subbed in trout. Thumbs up from both the people that ate it. My children split the Veal Oscar and enjoyed it. They wanted to split a filet. Ha, maybe next time! My husband enjoyed his duck entree. All in all a good experience. read more

Okay, I admit it, I have never eaten hear until tonight. Can't really believe it as I admit to being a serious foodie and lived in BR on and off several times. Never even heard of it. The food is classic Southern French. Yes I am dividing, it is not Parisian by any stretch of the word, but feels Like classics cuisine from the Southern Rhone. Seafood is the base and plan your wine accordingly. They have beef, lamb, and squab, but the bulk of the menu is really much more southern French. The restaurant is elegant, the service is fine (although upon return I would tell my waiter that I do not want to rush dinner) maybe they rush the early birds (we ordered at 6:29), but would have been happy to stay until 11:00 to finish. The rooms are elegant, the food was stellar, and service was very good, but a bit rushed. I understand that I am not the average blue hair dining there, but I enjoy a three hour meal and think that they can deliver. I admit, each course was outstanding and that is why I give it 5 stars after just one visit. I will update again when I go back next week. And yes, I will be back next week. When I get first class food, a reasonable corkage fee (I brought a 2007 Quilceda Creek Cabernet the I decanted at he for three hours), and a bill of under $100 for two, I am all in. I will be back weekly until I leave Baton Rouge. This is a step up from Mansur's or Juban's in my opinion... Elegance, service, great food and a $15 corkage fee means I will be a regular here. read more

Charming atmosphere. I wish they would tear out the carpets and put in wood floors. It's also very quiet, so don't go in there with a group of friends expecting to be loud. I had the John's Favorite. A 4 oz filet served with a jumbo lump crab served in a pastry with hollandaise sauce. The pastry was amazing! My boyfriend had the Filet Beurre Rouge served with crawfish tails in a spicy red butter sauce. The sauce was delicious and complemented the filet very well. Overall it was very good and a great place for a date night or special occasion. We had an 8 p.m. dinner reservation and the service was very friendly but slow. read more

The salad was simple and great. The recommended wine was good as well. The main problem I had was that my steak was overcooked. I let them know, and actually only ate about a quarter of the steak leaving the rest. I was still charged for the steak. A couple seated in the same area got overcooked lamb chops as well. I don't know if the chef was having an off night or if he/she cant figure out medium rare. In the future, I would suggest that the management give some indication that they care about it when they drop the ball. We were planning to go back for seafood in the near future, but now think we will pass. I have already donated nearly $200 once the tip was included, for food I didn't care to finish. I think we will try the seafood elsewhere. read more

Definitely one of the best kept secrets of Baton Rouge. This place screams New Orleans with being set in an old house, but lucky enough it's here! I had the duck with a raspberry sauce, the duck fell apart to the touch. We also got the chocolate sufle, very impressive height on the dessert, as well as impressive taste. This place is superb. This is my favorite restaurant in Baton Rouge, but only when I feel like dropping $100 or more on dinner for two (no alcohol with that price either). Worth every penny though! We went here for our anniversary, and it was amazing. It's a tiny house that's been refurbished into a restaurant, making it feel intimate but not crowded. We started with the escargot appetizer, which was very good. I had the Steak au Poivre, which was cooked perfectly & the cream sauce was so good I wanted to lick the plate. My husband had the Carré d'Agneau with the mustard sauce. I'm not usually a fan of lamb, but even I had to admit it tasted great. For dessert, we decided to splurge and have the Crêpes Suzette. I waited a few days as I wanted to let the experience sink in rather than be rash but the longer I think about the experience, the more disapponted I am. My wife made reaervations for my birthday on Wednesday 8/6 at 7pm. We arrived at 6:55 and waited for several minutes before even seeing someone at the reservation desk to greet us. I noticed a note in the book that said "husband's birthday" but no acknowledgement occured at the greeting or through the meal. The atmosphere and the servers were pleasant but it took 45 minutes from the time we sat down till we received our first course. During that time our server let wine and water glasses go empty. I understand a leisurely pace for dinner at an elegant dining establishment, but this one wasn't worth the wait. I expected more flavor from our soups and the entrees, while attractive and enjoyable, lacked the oh wow factor of other restaurants on their level. Bottom line is we couldn't wait to get oit of there after a long and boring dining experience. read more

It is solidly good... But that is it. Food is on the bland side and not very complex. I would still recommend this place because of the quaint atmosphere and it is way better than brandt's maisonette. I have never been so insulted as I was yesterday at this restaurant. After paying for our food, my friends and I were chastised by the waiter for not spending $400 per person after making a reservation for six. We only went to get an appetizer and dessert. I'm in college and so were the other members of our party, we do not have $400 to spend on dinner. Hopefully one day I will, but when I do have that kind of money I certainly will not be spending it in this restaurant. I did not realize that you had to spend a certain amount of money in order to get good customer service and not to be discriminated against. Some of the members of our party are still trying to rebuild their homes from the massive flood that devastated Louisiana. I don't know if it was because we were too young or because our tip wasn't good enough, but for whatever reason this waiter felt the overbearing need to try and make us feel ashamed. Well he succeeded. I will NEVER go back to Maison Lacour. Neither will any of my friends or family. I don't know the waiter's name or I'd be happy to share it. I am hesitant to write a review because I'm so "possessive" of this jewel of a restaurant. It's charming, quiet and the staff always makes you feel as if you're their most special customer. There isn't a bad item on their menu and the tranquil setting is the perfect place for either a business meeting or a romantic dinner.
