Or "How are you?"I am a Sergeant in the good ol' USMC and It's been 1 year and 8 months since I was sitting in MusaQala, Helmand Province Afghanistan on Patrol Base Griffin. There are not too many pretty things that come from that area in Afghanistan but one of the few good experiences I had there was getting invited to a dinner with the local Afghan National Police.(ANP) Maiwand Kabob's authenticity in taste is unreal. The only way your experience would bee more authentic is if they took the tables away and we all sat on blankets and ate with our hands :) Don't see that happening anytime soon. But seriously... You walk up to what appears to be your average-Joe strip mall style eatery stuck right next to a Star Bucks. Boy are you deceived. As soon as you open the door your hit with a sensation of smells of pumpkin and cinnamon spices. One thing the Posh-tun people are known for is there kickin' flavors and spices. As you walk in there is a huge menu on your left hand side and murals all over the walls that give you the feeling like you are royalty in an Afghanistan Palace. Now to the most important part. The food for one looked amazing with orange and green and white colors popping off the plate. To top it off though it looked good but tasted fantastic! I ordered the Beef and Chicken Kabob. It came out hot and seasoned perfectly! I can't peg exactly what is on it but it tastes and smells like cinnamon. It also came out with a brown rice and ha-naan bread which is an "unrisen" crispy yet chewy flat bread and makes the Afghan meal experience that much more real. The only non-authentic thing with the food is the little side-Cesar salad they plate the food with. However, it does pair nicely with the food, and one could only wish to have a salad that fresh when eating dinner in Afghanistan. For beverages they had regular fountain drinks or different bottle flavors of water or tea. $$$$$$$$$$$$$ An average plate and drink will cost you between $11.00 to $17.00. The price is pretty much the only reason I can't give it 5. Maybe a buck or two cheaper and I would be sold. You do get your monies worth, but I personally had trouble finishing the portion size they gave me. As awesome as the food is, I think they could tone back the portion size just a little and cut back a dollar or 2 on the price. $$$$$$$$$$$$$ One of the facts I almost missed detailing. It's right next to a Starbucks so you can go next door and get your chai tea fix after you meal. :) I will certainly be heading back to one of these Maiwand Kabob establishments again, next time bringing my wife for this unique, culture filled meal. read more

When we walked in the restaurant was empty and no one was manning the front, but we knew NOT to leave. We had the Lamb curry, and I had the spinach side with rice. After adding powered spice and hot eastern sauce it was just to my liking! Delicious! The naan was freshly made and just lovely. Thank you for the excellent food and service! Even though I was not staying at the Hampton Inn, which is a convenient walk over, it was worth the short drive for the local shop of spicy deliciousness. I have to agree with Jessica F. and Ralph R. The pumpkin appetizer is a winner! Actually I usually like to order all the vegetarian sides. And you can't go wrong with the chicken either. Last time I picked up dinner to go for my sister flying in to visit and she loved all of it. I should have put it on a nice serving platter and said I had been practicing my Afghani cooking skills. But if that is not your best trait then I say head to Maiwand Kabob. It doesn't hurt to call in your order ahead of time (regardless of the time of day) and especially during the busy lunch and dinner rushes. Everyone wants Maiwand Kabob! It's cooked fresh and that takes a little bit longer. The dining area could be a little cozier but it's a walk up to the counter and order type of place then they bring it to your table. There's a fountain drink machine and some booths but mostly open tables so it's not your best night out restaurant but definitely clean and great food. read more

I hate to be the guy writing a negative review amidst a pandemic but the third try is the last. Being a customer for 3+ years now I've always flocked to the Maiwand Kabob location by Arundel Mill Mall to get my Kabob "fix." Unfortunately, each of the three times that I've been since March the kabobs have been inconsistent in the flavor and quality to which I've grown accustomed to from this location. The First time the Kabobs were secreting oil each time I bit into it, the second time the Kabobs had zero flavor, and Finally today the Kabob is too salty for consumption along with the portion size of the meat being cut drastically. I understand that times are difficult with everything that's going on - but if anything I believe that restaurant operators should be pushing for even higher quality to retain the loyal customers that they already have. As a matter of fact I've never even reached out for a refund or for them to redo my order because they're a small business and I support that. Moving forward in the future I will make the longer drive to Maiwand Kabob in Columbia, MD or Maiwand Grill located in Baltimore City. Sorry Maiwand Kabob @ArundelMills I tried my very best. Cheers! Such a convenient place to go to pick up some delicious kabobs. I especially like the kafta and chicken kabobs from Maiwand. Their rice is always good, too. I haven't ventured into trying the lamb, but from having had the meat kabob not sure if I would want to. Chewy. The times we had the meat kabobs, they were over cooked a bit and chewy each time. From the outside this place looks like a cheap burger place. But that couldn't be further from the truth. Yes it's paper plates and plastic cutlery but the quality of the food is great. When we decided to go to this place, we had high hopes because of the 4-stars ratings in Yelp. Sad to say, this is one of those very rare occasions when my fellow yelpers didn't deliver. Trust me, we came famished, excited and with an open-mind. We really tried hard to like it, and in the end its still 2-stars The 2-star rating is solely based on our experience and our orders. - Ambiance (3-stars) - modern interior, colorful murals, easy access to condiments and utensils; clean tables, floors and restroom. - Service (2-stars) - staffs are friendly and helpful when you order and this is the only time you interact with the staff. Which is okay because the restaurant is designed for customer to order in the counter and the staff to bring the food to the table. - Presentation (1-star) - they can at least try harder to make your plate pleasing and appetizing. Now for the food. - Lamb kabob (3-stars) - best kabob here! - Kofta kabob (2-stars) - lacking in taste and a bit dry. - Chicken Kabob (2-stars) - tender and lacking in taste - Chicken with green pea curry (2-stars) - doesn't taste like curry at all - Cinnamon rice (1-star) - bland. Nothing special about this. - Tandoori Bread (1-star) - dry. Would be better if it comes with dipping sauce. - Salad (1-start) - hurting. Greens with no-taste yogurt sauce. The food just didn't deliver for us. The taste was not there at all. All we can think of is the food is not very authentic. Maybe because its a chain restaurant they made their food pleasing to American taste. We still have hope for this restaurant. Came here with a friend a few weeks ago. The food is great! They make the bread fresh. I had the lamb kabob with naan bread. It was really good. The cilantro yogurt sauce adds some zing to the plate and its all good. We chose to dine in and it has a fast food feel, but also a comfortable atmosphere. The soda has free refills. This place is tucked away in a mini strip mall shopping area near a very residential area. I think it is a bit hard to find. Turn at the light at Dorchester and make a left into the parking area. Look for Starbucks, it's right next to it. I always get the kebobs. The chicken is orange in color and sometimes a bit on the dry side. The beef kebob is juicy and flavorful. Some might say it's a little spicy but I think it's just perfect! I would love to give this place 5 stars but I find the service is different with regards to pricing every time I go. The culmination of rice, sauce, meat, and bread is undoubtedly delicious and just as macro-friendly for those looking to eat clean. I'm always stuffed after my meal--it's hard to remain abstemious when every bite entices you to keep indulging, but I never leave regretting what I just ate. It's really that good. The Chicken Jalfrazi was served with white rice and not their usual pulao which makes perfect sense since you would want to get the taste of the curry. I almost love everything that is served here. I usually don't take the Salad as the side and instead opt for either ChickPeas curry or Potato and Green Peas curry and of course, the rice as well. I've only been to Maiwand Kabob once and was pretty satisfied with my visit. They have a nice menu selection and make everything to order. The chicken kabobs were delicious! They were served with rice and a small salad. Naan and green sauce was also included. Everything was decent for the price of $9.99! I went on a Friday evening around 7 and was disappointed that they were out of samosas. They compensated by offering us something comparable to a samosa, I believe it was a Bolani. Maiwand Kabob may not seem like an amazing place to get Afghani food, but it's AMAZING. We stopped at Maiwand Kabob on a whim - not really looking for anything, but willing to try something new. I'm glad we did. The location is in a small strip mall in the Arundel Mills area, so it's not hard to find. It's impeccably clean inside, and service is fast (though we were the only ones there for lunch). Prices are fairly cheap for the area. Everything here was superb. We got the lamb kabob, chicken tikka kabob, and mantu. The mantu - a sort of light meat-filled dumpling appetizer - was absolutely excellent and quite savory. The lamb kabob and chiken tikka kabob were equally excellent, and really made me re-think my love for Afghani in Virginia. The naan served with the meals was, strangely enough, the star of the show - it was AMAZINGLY good, and unquestionably the best I've ever had. No question, this place rocks. Try it. read more

At recent visit, I made my order to go and the girl ringing me up entered everything into the system then took a phone call before she rang me up. The phone call was a long, complicated phone order that the girl took without ever saying a word to me. I stood there for over 6 minutes, just waiting for someone to complete my half-taken order. There were three other employees behind the counter, all carrying on with a gentleman they seemed to know who was standing next to me. After the call, the girl came back and rang me up, with no mention of the rude interruption to my ordering. Just another unnecessary wait to a process that takes too long each time anyway. This place never disappoints me. This was probably the 2nd or 3rd time that I am visiting this restaurant. Ordered for lamb curry with rice this time. The food as usual was amazing, with right amount of spices, served hot, and lamb cooked well. If you need saffron rice, please ask for it else you will be served white rice.
