We took our out-of-town guests to Famous Kabob & Karahi (9711 Fort Meade Road, Laurel) for lunch on February 11, 2026. This small, family-owned restaurant offers freshly prepared, well-seasoned South Asian cuisine in a quiet, welcoming setting. The food was flavorful, generously portioned, and made to order. We enjoyed chicken karahi, chapli kabab, chicken seekh kabab, goat curry, and chana, followed by tea. The freshly grilled meats were tender and aromatic, and the house-made breads were warm and delicious. Though the restaurant may appear unassuming from the outside, its food quality makes the visit truly worthwhile. The owner, Manzoor Ahmad, and his staff were warm, attentive, and gracious. We appreciated the pleasant conversation with the owner and the thoughtful gesture of complimentary items. The only drawback was the service time, since most dishes are prepared fresh on a small grill, resulting in a noticeable wait. However, the freshness and taste more than compensated for the delay. Having decided to move to maryland, looking for apartments, we ran into this place while checking out over crowded dutch market next door. Late afternoon and being extremely hungry we decided to eat here. Place was empty and but i was craving for kebabs . Wife being a vegeterian was not happy with choice of place. She noticed choley bature but turned out it was weekend special only. but they had veggie plate with saag , chholey ,naan and rice . So we decided to just eat here . The wait was very very long for an empty restaurant , we were getting hangry . After about 45 min we seetwo streaming hot plate being brought to our table . OH my ! The food was so fresh and delicious just blew all our irritation away. We had nice conversation with owner and told him we were moving to the area . As we were ending meal, owner brought over freshly prepared chholey batura on the house . We were shocked , excited and really thanked his gesture. Definately a must try place ! Waittttttttttttt timeeeeeeee ! First timer . Saw some reviews and dropped in here . Came to order lunch at 1 pm and went out at 2.30 it's too much of wait time . I would have given 1 star for the service , but gave 3 - because of their goat curry . It was really really good. Chicken kebab was ok. May be if we ate it there, it would have been good, but the delay in service , the food almost became cold.... Veggie was very average. There were so many customers who were kind of frustrated with the wait time ! Certainly unacceptable. They just have a small grill and do the kebabs , like we do at home . Hope they upgrade their kitchen and also have enough help and improve their service .. non-veg food was good.. overall a very average experience. read more

A friend of mine rented out the restaurant for a private event. As stated in other reviews, this place is not affiliated with the Kabob & Karahi in Silver Spring, MD. It's actually inside a strip mall area and parking when we got there was disastrous. Luckily, Famous K&K has reserved spots for their customers but you'll have to queue up to get there. The food was set up buffet style and all of it was great. As an appetizer we were served chana, which is garbanzo beans elevated with chutney. For lunch I had the biryani, ghosht, eggplant, and butter chicken. The butter chicken was my favorite of all the dishes. All the food was seasoned well but I wish it was a little spicier. Although, I'm sure if you ordered individually you could ask to spice up your food. While the restaurant doesn't appear welcoming from the outside, the food inside will make it worth the trip. Just make sure to call ahead because the restaurant closes to the public when a large party is present. read more

This is not a new location for the *real famous* 'Kabob and Karahi' in Silver Spring as we thought. We thought this was a second location in Laurel that just opened up. The Silver Spring location near us is overrun on the weekends and is so tiny inside that we were excited a bigger and newer location opened up. We even considered hosting a party here so we went today to check it out. Oops! Our mistake. This is NOT in any way related to the notorious 'Kabob & Karahi' in Silver Spring that's been around a while. The menu says that this establishment was formerly named Bano Kabob but now known as 'Famous Kabob & Karahi.' Why would they use that name?! Can I open up a fast food restaurant and call it 'The Famous McDonalds?' What a misleading name! Anyway, we went in on a Sunday at 4 pm. The place was empty. Clean large interior with fans on, well lit, great ambience, but empty. In the one hour we were there, I think I saw 2-3 customers. Two paid and left and a couple ordered to-go. We ordered 2 bone-in chicken kabobs that took 30 minutes to prepare. There was only 1 person who took the orders and made the food too. The food was good. The chargrilled chicken Kabob was delicious. The exterior was a little over grilled and tough, but it was still decent. The rice and chickpeas side had been sitting around for a while but that's expected for a place that wasn't overrun with customers. It was still tasty, even though the chickpeas were a little on the salty side. The bread was hot and fluffy and delicious. We let our kids run loose since the place was empty. The trash was empty too. There was no paper towels in the women's bathroom. I heard the men's bathroom was not clean so I took my kids to the women's bathroom. Overall, not bad for a one time experience. I don't know how this place will survive. We won't be back since it's a little far for us and not as good as other places closer to us. read more

Great experience at this place! We got the lamb kabob and chicken kabob. It came with chickpeas, salad, naan, and rice , and tasted amazing. the portion sizes were good as well. There was nobody else in the restaurant so we waited about 20 minutes for food, and it was worth it. It also has a nice ambience with orange lighting, and there is a nice carpeted area where there are jaanamaz available to pray. Overall great experience! read more

This is a mom and pop shop so quality is the owner's number one priority which means you will find him behind the counter of his open kitchen cooking your food 7 days a week. Thats quality control for ya. With that being said, I recommend you to call ahead to order if your appetite cannot wait! I've been here twice with my co-workers and enjoyed both meals very much. I've ordered their lamb chops and chicken kabob from there and both were delicious. Meats are fresh, tender, and succulent. I freaking love this place!! The food is excellent! the service is great except you can't be in a hurry everything is cooked to order so it takes a little time. I haven't been here for lunch to see how the lunch rush is I will have to try that, but I have been coming here for dinner ever since I saw that they opened and they have not disappointed the owner Ahmad is very sweet and will cook your order to pleasing. I love how open the kitchen is & I love the handmade naan!! And let's not talk about the samosas!!! I Love Lamb so I get that just about every time I've come here with that delicious chicken but I will be trying just about everything else on the menu. Wow. All I can say. We ordered for 8 from here because it was the only place open on Xmas night. Lucky for us! We ordered a combo of ground beef, ground chicken, boneless chicken, and lamb kabobs. All of them were incredibly flavorful, and each of them was someone's favorite. My son and I liked the lamb best, my wife liked the boneless chicken, my daughter and sister liked the ground chicken, and my father liked the ground beef. The rice was great as well, and the eggplant and mixed veggies sides were excellent. Everything was very flavorful, but only the samosas were spicy. The latter were the only thing that was just 'Ok'. Highly recommend this place. We'll be going there again next time we r in town. read more

Excellent food. I was so excited to find this place as I love kabobs. I had the chkn kabob with cabage, rice and spinach. My son had land which I tasted and the too was really good. The place is pretty spacious and clean. There was a young kid taking orders, he had a pretty dry personality. The older gentleman there was pretty helpful and offered catering services. What is going on here? The food is very good and fresh. I don't mind waiting a bit but when is this place open? Clearly the hours posted on the door are not followed. I have gone several times during their open hours and been met with a locked door. One time I got in only to be told they had a big order and therefore could not serve me. This happened to my daughter too! Come on, follow regular restaurant processes and post the hours and follow the hours. You can't turn away customers and expect to be successful. If you're wondering where FK&K is, they share the same parking lot with Laurel's Amish Market. As others have noted, this isn't the place to be if you're in a hurry - for much of the food is made on the spot. Take our naan, for example; it arrived to the table, huge, chewy, puffy and piping hot. A goat stew-like dish, though flavorful and tender - with spices you can see and taste, was also riddled with gristle and specs of bone. The gravy it produced was a true artery clogger, but went perfectly well with the naan. Basmati was spiced right and the accompanied small salad, a cucumber slice and onion slices was disappointing. Save room for dessert, because the rice pudding isn't anything you'd expect from an Indian restaurant. You have to call in advance though, if you want it. The owner only makes it when he has a catering event and it's requested. He'll make extra for you, if you ask him too. The rice pudding is a thick, creamy, delicious concoction with bits of pistachios - adding a slight crunch. Love it. Sooo - the owner is very nice and having him cook for you is such a luxurious treat, but his kids running around in the back of the restaurant, was a bit distracting. read more

This is not your traditional kabob & karahi place like the other places around. I have been to so many kabob places but this one is different. I have tried Goat Karahi and its way different; the sauce is rich and deep flavory with the ginger comes with naan and salad and the goat so meaty unlike all other places where they really give you mostly bones and give you only naan. I have tried the lamb chops and also so good. I go there at least twice a week and gotta try their curry dishes yet. read more

Got takeout orders and they took over 30 minutes to prepare. Staff was friendly but the wait is just too much. There was only one other couple in the restaurant too and it was dinner time on a Friday. The beef seekh kabob was good and the rice was very flavorful. My husband loved the spinach and said it was the best he'd ever had. I enjoyed the cabbage side as well. Veggie pakora tasty along with the sauce. The chicken boneless kabobs were so over cooked I didn't finish it. Very rubbery. Bread was super thick and too doughy in some places and thin in others. This is the first time I didn't like naan. Given that there are a number of similar cuisines nearby we probably won't return, but who knows. read more

Stumbled upon this place while trying to visit Bano Kabob, the owner's former restaurant a few blocks away. Guys, this place is good. Certainly not the most beautiful decor but the food is legit. Chicken Tikka skewers and naan cooked fresh in front of you. Meat is well marinated and perfectly cooked. The meal came with two sides, both of which were excellent as well.
