Chicken Kabob

Chicken kabob plate was excellent! Well seasoned and tender, it's a good value. The order was ready in about 15min and staff at the restaurant were polite. I would definitely return if in the area.

Fries with Cilantro Yogurt sauce - Good
Sowmya V.

Our first time at Maiwand disappointed us. We really looked forward to trying their Fried Bolani, Lamb with potatoes (Friday special) and Chicken wrap but unfortunately we couldn't finish anything. Fried Bolani was over fried with the bread becoming extremely hard. Pan frying them instead would have helped them better than deep frying. Lamb with potatoes dish was for some reason, really sweet and oily. It was okay for the first 2 bites, but got sickly sweet after then. Chicken wrap lacked flavors and tasted unfortunately really bland. The only saving grace was their Cilantro yogurt sauce and the fries. This restaurant was in my bookmarks for a while and seeing all the amazing reviews, I'm quite surprised to write this review. I might give them another try to check out their other dishes though.

Chicken Shawarma wrap: $13.99

Very good! I got a chicken shawarma wrap with a salad and babaganoush. The wrap was really good; the meat was juicy and seasoned well. It came with a side of sauce, but the wrap was so juicy, you really don't need it. The babahanoush was good too, though I thought it was bitter at first. Turns out it's just smoked. I'd taken a bite of my wrap before the baba, and I think the flavors clashed at first. The baba came cold and I prefer it warm, so I stuck it in the microwave for about 30 seconds to get it to the temp and texture that I like. It came with a big piece of naan. The side salad was typical, though it didn't come with any dressing. Great meal!

Fast & friendly service, food came out quickly. Chicken kabob: reallyyyy good! The chicken is flavorful and very soft. It pairs well with the white and green sauces it comes with. Chicken shawarma wrap: large and very filling! The wrap kind of falls apart because it's so packed so use a fork! Every thing about that wrap had me excited for the next bite. I'll be ordering this again!

We came by around 8PM on a Friday in maple lawn and were surprised to see the place near empty. There were plenty of metal seats and chairs for us to sit at in complete silence. There was one man on the counter who was very nice and helpful and a few more chefs in the back. During our time there about 3-4 people entered to grab food and leave but it was just my party of 4 there the whole time. Besides the empty interior the vibes were solid. The food was great and had a solid quantity. I ordered a chicken seekh kabob which came with a rice, massive piece of naan and a salad. For that quantity at only 16 dollars I can't complain. The food tasted solid and was quite filling. I could barely finish it all and I am quite the eater. A lot of my party could not finish all that food and so it's definitely worth the price. I did feel the food was a bit dry. They serve it all with a small packet of green sauce but if they added a yogurt or another packet of sauce it would make much more sense in my opinion. The kabob itself tasted great, and the naan was quite impressively soft and fluffy. But I wish there was more to make it all feel a bit less dry compared to other kebab places in the area. They also have water cups for everyone to grab and plenty of hot sauce and ketchup for people to take. But unfortunately they only provide that one packet of green sauce. Solid food, a bit dry, massive quantities. Will come back for some more at some point.

This has to be the best Kabob place around and the best Maiwand location (they got quite a few) in the DMV. Everything is so fresh and I love their unique sides...especially the pumpkin!

"Is this an army of unicorns killing Genghis Khan?" Darla Dudley's adoptive father inquired, staring at her school project diorama, unaware of the super-heroic secret (Shazam!) shared among Darla and all of her foster siblings, courtesy of Billy Batson. "Yes!" Darla exclaimed. "Unicorns aren't real," uttered a voice behind a video game. "It's called speculative history, Eugene. Look it up!" Little did Darla and her siblings know that, by the end of the day, Darla's quick thinking, her ability to problem-solve, and her childlike fondness for Skittles would convince monstrous unicorns to fight for them against the harpies, manticores, and cyclops, unleashed by Kalypso, and for the residents of the City of Brotherly Love: Philadelphia. But what if this tale of Greek Goddesses (Hespera, Kalypso, and Anthea) were set elsewhere, in a thriving community shopping center in Fulton, Maryland, known as Maple Lawn? Perhaps the would-be-world-devouring unicorns would surprise us there also, opting not for the Tiramisu Truffles of nearby Decadent but rather the mouthwatering kabobs of boneless chicken and lamb, seasoned ground beef, shrimp, and salmon, along with scrumptious sides of hummus, babaganoush, and pumpkin, served at Maiwand Kabob.

Lamb curry with rice and chickpea curry

Stopping by this place was a wonderful accident. I was in the area, got hungry, and just decided to grab something before heading home. I walked into the restaurant, and there were just a few customers inside. The cashier was very friendly and gave great recommendations. I decided on the special that day, which was lamb curry. It came with two sides, so I selected the rice and the chickpea curry. It took five minutes or less for my order to be ready. I grabbed my bag, headed home, and hoped for the best. Oh my goodness, I should've sampled the food before I left the restaurant. If I did, I would've ordered two lamb curry specials. This was some of the best lamb I've had in a while. Actually, this may be the first time I've had lamb curry. The lamb was tender, flavorful, and melt in your mouth good. They give you plenty lamb & rice, so I was able to eat some and save some for later. I must visited again to see what other wonderful dishes this restaurant has to offer.

Food was delicious & service was great! I'll be back for sure! The rice was my favorite! Ambiance is modern as it offers greenery on the walls. I saw alot of people leaving with yellow and pink drinks. I didn't get to try one but I'm excited to have experience this place.

Valencia and another gentleman, Kumar (?) gave excellent service. Made sure that my meal was just right. I came in right before closing and they treated me like I was their first customer. You know that I thrive off of good customer service especially at restaurants. Lamb Kabob, pumpkin, naan, vegetable samosa were a HIT!

Samosa

Food was not bad. The restaurant was extremely clean, service fast. I got the samosas with a potato filling, smaller than expected but they were very good and filling. Not oily, definite plus. Overall, Nothing to write home about in this experience but was a good fast bite.

11 years later, I still love my Maiwand Kabob. This is one of six locations of this name…read more All of them are delicious, but a couple of notes about this location: * The printed menu is pretty short, but they do have a much longer menu online (I've found I can order those items in-store also, but you need to know to look for them) * It has a larger dining area, and offers table service for groups or if you have mobility limited folks in your party * Online ordering cuts off an hour before store close, but you can still call your order in after that * Don't forget about dessert! Unsurprisingly they have great baklava, but the cheesecake variants are sleeper hits Afghan remains one of the best combination of affordable and savory in the area, it's a great way to eat well and support a local business while you're at it!

The portion sizes are filling and the prices are fair for the quality of food. I especially love their kofta, eggplant, fries, and green sauce. They have high chairs. I was too full for dessert but they have lots of really unique and delicious looking desserts. I want to go back for the rose ice cream. I didn't love that we were given plastic cups with plastic lids and plastic silverware when we were dining in. I'm trying to reduce the amount of plastic send to landfills and I would prefer reusable things when I'm dining in.

The decor is nice and modern, a bit sparse, but that makes it cleaner looking. It has a nice tone about it. My one complaint is the price, but given how much you get for it... and considering how everything is getting more expensive... it is what it is. It's still a bargain since I almost always get two meals out of one. If you are gluten free, I have great news! Aside from the bread and mac (and cheese), everything is GF! This is what they told us. They fry the tenders in a GF breading and everything else is safe. Again, always double check! If you want the sandwich options, they can put the ingredients in a bowl with fries. It's worth it for some of the wonderful flavor combinations they have. Well worth returning to!

My girlfriend & I visited once on Sunday, July 13, 2025. We went over to Burtonsville seeing that a long time staple of the area was closing that day or the next, which we saw on social media. But when we got there, there was a sign saying Friday, 7/11 was their last day and thanking people for patronage. We went across the street to Tropical Smoothie, but they charged full price each for water cups; we walked out, and later that day, I slammed them with a rare 1-star Yelp review (see that from 7/13/25). I referenced ISAAC's in that review saying one of these days I got to get around to a 5-star of where we ended up, which it ended up being 11 months later. We decided to check out ISAAC's across the street from here in the newly remodeled Burtonsville Crossing center. This was order at the counter. We got chicken sandwiches, which were large, much bigger than Chick Fil-A, and more delicious too. I got mac n cheese & Brussel Sprouts, which we split. We sat at a high top counter. Seating is a bit limited on a semi-busy Sunday. Everything was great! We will need to come back here one of these days.
