Vegetable Samosas I love the light Philo dough texture to the Samosa. Potatoes and the peas inside were fresh perfectly seasoned. Perfectly golden fried outside. I think that the dressing was a light vinaigrette base with a strong dill presence. Spinach was cooked to the perfect texture, leaving it still having a little bit of bite and not being mushy at all. Our first time at Maiwand disappointed us. We really looked forward to trying their Fried Bolani, Lamb with potatoes (Friday special) and Chicken wrap but unfortunately we couldn't finish anything. Fried Bolani was over fried with the bread becoming extremely hard. Pan frying them instead would have helped them better than deep frying. Lamb with potatoes dish was for some reason, really sweet and oily. It was okay for the first 2 bites, but got sickly sweet after then. Chicken wrap lacked flavors and tasted unfortunately really bland. The only saving grace was their Cilantro yogurt sauce and the fries. This restaurant was in my bookmarks for a while and seeing all the amazing reviews, I'm quite surprised to write this review. Very good! I got a chicken shawarma wrap with a salad and babaganoush. The wrap was really good; the meat was juicy and seasoned well. It came with a side of sauce, but the wrap was so juicy, you really don't need it. The babahanoush was good too, though I thought it was bitter at first. Turns out it's just smoked. I'd taken a bite of my wrap before the baba, and I think the flavors clashed at first. The baba came cold and I prefer it warm, so I stuck it in the microwave for about 30 seconds to get it to the temp and texture that I like. It came with a big piece of naan. We came by around 8PM on a Friday in maple lawn and were surprised to see the place near empty. There were plenty of metal seats and chairs for us to sit at in complete silence. There was one man on the counter who was very nice and helpful and a few more chefs in the back. During our time there about 3-4 people entered to grab food and leave but it was just my party of 4 there the whole time. Besides the empty interior the vibes were solid. The food was great and had a solid quantity. I ordered a chicken seekh kabob which came with a rice, massive piece of naan and a salad. For that quantity at only 16 dollars I can't complain. The food tasted solid and was quite filling. I could barely finish it all and I am quite the eater. A lot of my party could not finish all that food and so it's definitely worth the price. I did feel the food was a bit dry. They serve it all with a small packet of green sauce but if they added a yogurt or another packet of sauce it would make much more sense in my opinion. The kabob itself tasted great, and the naan was quite impressively soft and fluffy. But I wish there was more to make it all feel a bit less dry compared to other kebab places in the area. They also have water cups for everyone to grab and plenty of hot sauce and ketchup for people to take. But unfortunately they only provide that one packet of green sauce. Solid food, a bit dry, massive quantities. Will come back for some more at some point. read more

Stopping by this place was a wonderful accident. I was in the area, got hungry, and just decided to grab something before heading home. I walked into the restaurant, and there were just a few customers inside. The cashier was very friendly and gave great recommendations. I decided on the special that day, which was lamb curry. It came with two sides, so I selected the rice and the chickpea curry. It took five minutes or less for my order to be ready. I grabbed my bag, headed home, and hoped for the best. Oh my goodness, I should've sampled the food before I left the restaurant. If I did, I would've ordered two lamb curry specials. This was some of the best lamb I've had in a while. Actually, this may be the first time I've had lamb curry. The lamb was tender, flavorful, and melt in your mouth good. They give you plenty lamb & rice, so I was able to eat some and save some for later. I must visited again to see what other wonderful dishes this restaurant has to offer. read more

This restaurant is situated on a small street, which if your lucky you might be able to get parking during lunch time, otherwise you'll have to park further at an attached parking lot. The interior is small however I've always managed to get a seat. I attribute this to people getting their food to go during the week. The service was fast and the food was tasted great each time. I usually order the dumplings in yogurt and ground beef kabob. I especially liked the dumplings considering I never had them this style before and the yogurt has a great flavor. Stopped by for a quick lunch after church and got the chicken kabob platter which comes with rice, salad and naan bread for $15.99. my husband and I split this and it was enough for both of us. We each had three kebabs which were very tender, moist and perfectly seasoned. The rice was delicious with hints of cardamom and raisins. The naan bread was served piping hot and was very good. The chicken, beef, lamb, etc., are all so good - well-seasoned, not too much salt, and marinated enough to be tender and full of flavor without being dry at all. The green sauce (cilantro yogurt) was a perfect compliment to the meats. The sides are pretty good too, except that the pumpkin is too sweet and would be better without added sugar, and the eggplant has too much oil for me. Yum! That's my one-word summary. My (slightly) longer review follows: so yum!!! Okay, seriously, it's really delicious, obviously. The food is beyond reproach. I'm a sucker for a good kabob place, and Maiwand is no exception. In fact, it might even be the new standard. I've had a few different entrees from here so far, and I've never been let down. The actual kabob meals do take a while to cook, since they are made fresh and to order. So, if you're looking to save time, order ahead. OR! You can order the daily special! This usually lower in price (always a plus) and comes up super-fast, because it's their daily dish. For instance, I believe it's Friday, they have a lamb curry which is dynamite! It's got the right amount of kick, and the rice/salad duo helps to balance things out. I mentioned the price... if I had to complain, that would be my only real sticking point. It can get a little up there if you get a kabob or one of the bigger combos. I will say, though, that you totally get what you pay for. They give you a LOT of food for the price. So, if you leave hungry, it's your own fault. For example, one of the kabob meals will usually come with rice, salad, sauce, and a piece of naan bread, which is huge! It's a lot of food, easily enough for more than one meal. So, there's that complaint squashed. (I'm also absolutely sure that the rent must be really high in Maple Lawn, so they have to price their meals to stay in business). This is a must-do place if you're in Maple Lawn for any amount of time. Great for lunch or dinner, and so incredibly flavorful! read more

I have a general rule that I don't review food that's been delivered. It's not fair as you never know how it was handled from the moment it was prepared to the moment it arrives at your house. But there are exceptions... We've twice had food delivered by an unnamed delivery service from Maiwand Kabob (note the name similarity from Maiwand Grill, which I do not believe is related) and both times the food was excellent. Especially the lamb kabobs. If you order lamb kabobs from every place in the DMV that offers them, I would venture that 85% of them will be overcooked. While this is understandable (for those of us who have cooked lamb before), it is also unfortunate. These folks as MK (sorry, shorter is easier) are rock stars. I've had the lamb kabobs twice and the Mrs. had the lamb salad and all the lamb was cooked flawlessly. Their other kabobs were also lovely but much easier to prepare so it's not worth the prolonged discussion (but know that the Kofta Skewer and the Chicken Kabob were tasty tasty!). I have never been to MK in Fulton (or any of their six locations in Maryland) but I bet when the food comes fresh out of the tandoor that it's even better! read more

As much as I wanted my usual kofta kabob, I decided to try the chicken shawarma wrap this time. Good decision! While it's kinda messy to eat, there's plenty of tender juicy marinated chicken inside the naan, along with lettuce, tomato, and yummy sauce. I like that they use thigh meat which I always prefer to dry ass white meat. Their fries are also money; always crispy and a good helping. We had Chicken Tikka, Chicken Kabob, Veggie Platter (potatoes, pumpkin, spinach, eggplant, chickpea curry, salad, bread), basmati and seasoned rice. Rice pudding and baklava. Delicious Afghan-style cooking. The kebabs steal the show (as you'd expect from the name) but the sides, flatbread, and rice are also all strong supporting players. I've started getting "extra" of those, they're that good. There's many styles of kabob, but Afghan is my personal favorite. The seasonings and flavors are just so. Very filling. The kebab combo & an extra side make it easily two adult-sized meals (or 3 for smaller people). Don't sleep on the desserts, the baklava is much better than it has any right to be, and the baklava cheesecake was a mouthwatering surprise. Maiwand Kabob is a local chain with the best kebabs I've had, but this is my favorite location. Like all small chains, there's minor variations between kitchens, I think this location is the most consistent and well-executed. Highly Recommended. read more

O.M.G. New regular favourite restaurant in Maryland!!! EVERYTHING, I mean everything is SO GOOD! (So good that I think capital letters are needed here.) We just moved from the west coast and was living in a temporary living hotel near Fulton, MD. Being so we didn't have a whole lot to cook and we sure don't want to cook after a day of going different places to find an apartment. So one night we decided to try this place out, and... that's how history were made. Yes, it's so good and we were amazed. We both had Mideastern food before, but never had Afghan authentic Kabob! Not only the flavors are amazing, the portion was generous! Worth every single penny! The first time having perfectly grilled and NOT doughy Naan! So good we had it twice. We had lamb, chicken, kofta and seekh kabobs, and different sides: eggplants, pumpkins, afghan white and brown rice, potato curry, lentil, etc! What can I say... nothing I would disapprove! They are all good for their own reasons. Not one I wouldn't get again! But if you ask me which is the best? Well, Rice pudding dessert! (aka Kheer). It's perfectly sweetened and creamy. The cardamom is almost like Lavender/ Rose with Almonds in it. We love it. It's a stable if we want dessert now. My hubby said he would give up ice cream for Kheer and I agree. Tips: if it's +$1 or +$2 type of sides? WORTH IT, DO IT. It's a bit on the oily side of food so we won't get it too often, and also I like to cook myself so it's not gonna be a weekly thing for us.
