We popped in here for a quick lunch after visiting the Shiner brewery. Overall our experience was not bad but I'm not sure that we would return if we were in Shiner again. The interior is littered with taxidermy animals that cover the walls and peer at you through the glass showcases around the dining room. If you're into that kind of thing, maybe kind of cool, if not, maybe kind of creepy. The entire staff was extremely friendly to us the entire time. We received a warm greeting once we arrived and a friendly server quickly took us to our table. We ordered two appetizers, the boudin egg rolls and the southwest egg rolls both of which were piping hot, crispy, and tasty. For dinner our whole table ordered chicken fried streak. The trays arrived with the food placed on a sheet of parchment paper which quickly became soggy and started to disintegrate into our food as we ate. The steak itself was crispy and flavorful but unfortunately very tough. The meat also was quite small once you cut into it with about a half inch of empty breading all around it. The wait staff was nice. The menu was a disappointment. Not a salad in sight! The chicken I had was rubbery, and the sauce was nothing but greasy water with LOTS of chili powder. We had just left Shiner Brewery and had the best time. We were looking for a bite to eat before heading back to San Antonio, so we thought this would be the place. The menu items sounded appetizing, the place wasn't too crowded and they had live entertainment. We ordered at about 7:20, a trio of queso and chips, tater kegs, boudin egg rolls, fried green beans, and 2 chicken wraps. The chips and queso came out in a timely manner, however the cheese was like movie theater Rico's cheese. Not great! Then the service and experience went downhill. We didn't get refills on our water or teas, nor silver ware for food that was delivered. Then the rest of the order took over an hour and 30 minutes. When we did finally get our food, (after numerous attempts to ask the waitress who responded with just a couple more minutes) it was cold and underwhelming. We asked for the checks pretty quickly, but you can guess how quick we got them. We got up to pay at the bar, and gratuity was added on it. Of course she would add it on there, she, the waitress would get money regardless of how the service or food was! I asked to speak to a manager and of course it was back and forth. Frustrating and horrible experience, after have the best time at Shiner Brewery! The waitstaff could definitely use some courteous words, give refills, and maybe expectations of wait time. And don't expect a tip for non-service! Buy some frozen apps, and some Rico's cheese, save your money! I would definitely not recommend this establishment! read more

Nice spot for grub and live music in Shiner. Staff are super friendly and take good care of you. The food is good. The only reason I give it 4 instead of 5 stars is the volume they have the music. It's absolutely at an insane level. It's awesome they have live music every weekend, but it would be wonderful if they would turn the volume down a bit. It's a small place and it's so blasting that you cannot even have any sort of conversation with someone right next to you. We were yelling at each other and still couldn't hear a darn thing. We had to resort to typing on our phones and showing it to each other to have any type of conversation. It would be perfect if they would turn it down a bit so it's more enjoyable read more

Absolutely amazing ambiance, when you walk in your are truly transported in time. The staff was absolutely incredible and very friendly always asking for ways to serve. The food we had for starters was the pork belly and guacamole. Big fan here the pork belly perfectly cooked. Christina had the Tatar tot shots amazing and I gave the the chicken fried steak a go and was not disappointed. If you have a chance to swing in do take the time it is absolutely amazing. read more

Horrible! Worst food in Shiner for sure. Terrible service. They serve expensive ( bad) food in foil Togo boxes. It's a culinary joke! The place is actually quite beautiful and exquisite mounts adorn the walls and elaborate murals painted by a true master suck you in and give you high hopes until you sit and wait for water downed drinks and incredibly bad food. This place is like stepping back 100 or more years in time! A beautiful place that would be a perfect setting for a scene from a classic western movie. On top of that, good prices on beers on tap (more than just Shiner Bock), great comfort food, and friendly waitresses. It is my go-to break point on drives between Houston and New Braunfels (take 90-A, it's the scenic route). Plan to be there on a Friday or Saturday night when there's live music and a more raucous party atmosphere. read more

First off, the building is really cool and clean. The decor is unique. However, the overall experience will keep us away. We ordered a chicken fried steak which was equivalent to chewing on a piece of rubber. It seems like a frozen piece of chicken was battered and flash fried. I didn't swallow a single piece out of fear of getting sick. Now the service. I understand it was a busy Saturday night, but waiting 30+ minutes to get canned beers is a little outrageous. Twice I actually had to go looking for our waitress so we could finally get some service. read more

I am Latino, I came into this place today and when I tell you everyone eating at this place dropped their conversation and stared us up and down, I mean it was dramatic. i saw no minorities except those who worked there and even they don't smile. I have never felt more unwelcomed in my life! The bartender was the only one who smiled at us. We used the restroom because we were on a road trip and wanted a cute place to eat but we had been out in a road for many miles ... we thought this place was so beautiful, food looked great but after that encounter we decided to leave and that we weren't ever coming back. read more

WOW! What an improvement. March of 2022 was our last visit and while the food was top notch, the service was the worst in the area. So much so that I've passed on some good entertainment because of the prior service. Last night John Wayne Schulz and his band performed and started on time. John and all his group were great to listen to. And the service was not just the best ever here, I can't remember a recent experience anywhere that the service was better. Different team members were at our table at just the right time checking on drink orders or food. The house was full so we were expecting a subpar experience, but Shiner Palace Saloon's crew delivered. And like before the food was excellent. We had the pork chop and fish tacos. This place is terrible! Bad service, they have it. Do you like horrible food? This is the place. Old beer on tap, yeap taste flat. Once you've been there will you go back, nope. I also wouldn't take your kids there as they are not kid friendly. This place was ran way better when it was TKOs. I will not recommend this place to anyone or ever go back again. Calf fries were HORRIBLE. They were diced, small and chewy like gizzards. They had a strong taste of parsley because of having parsley in the batter AND parsley was sprinkled on the cream gravy.
