Probably ok if you are going for a perm or hair dye. Kinda bad if you're going for a haircut though. Went to get my bangs trimmed, and quickly realized oops this person doesn't know how to cut bangs. They sorta just took scissors and cut it, without combing, spraying some water, etc. And the end result does look like someone just took scissors and cut it. But, if you don't have bangs or don't care about how your hair is cut, it's probably fine. read more

I am EXTREMELY disappointed and dissatisfied with my hair cut. The stylist did her best, but failed miserably. My goal was a CHOPPY PIXIE and even had photos to show the cut and the choppy layers. She did NOT see the layers, but felt that they were produced with product. WRONG!!! The choppy layers (as shown in the photos) WAS the style -- NO PRODUCT. Instead, I came out with super short hair that I CANNOT style. I also blame the schools and laws. AZ, as in states like Wisconsin or Illinois, are NOT required to continually up-date their skills or keep up with styles to maintain their licenses. I blame the schools for teaching the BARE MINIMUM!!! They do NOT teach their students about hair texturing, correcting issues, such as cowlicks, face/head shapes, etc. They too are the problem. read more

I had the most amazing experience today at this salon. Renee cut my HH wig, which was very long. This was very scary to me because obviously alternative hair does not grow back. She handled it so professionally, and with confidence. It was amazing because not for one minute did I feel nervous as soon as she started cutting, I could clearly see that she knew what she was doing , the piece came out beautiful and I will be going back to have Renee cut several more pieces. Maj Salon deserves every last 5 star review ! I used to have a stylist who was my go-to, however, about 5 years ago he moved away. The hunt for a new stylist began and for FIVE YEARS I have been searching and for FIVE YEARS I had horrible haircuts. The previous stylists never listened or really gave 2 cares about what I had to walk around looking like when I left their chair. Jovanna literally took every last detail into consideration and nailed it! She clearly loves what she does and it shows in her work! my hair was cut 4 inches without permission and then they dyed my roots red and bleached the rest of my hair when I asked for lowlights going darker. I'm still trying to get the red out and it was done in December. read more

I asked for curtain bangs with face framing layers that I could tuck behind my ear and specified that I wanted the curtain bangs blended into the rest of the hair and layers. She cut my bangs straight across and did no blend them. Now I am stuck with short bangs that do not blend into the layers and are not even curtain bangs. Wow, after going to this salon for several months - hung in there - I can relate to all the bad reviews, and I won't cover ALL my complaints but will hit the "highlights" (pun intended) to protect others from awful treatment, double charges for excess color and cut for long hair (mine's at collarbone) etc. Not friendly, protect their own, blame he customer for everything from a stylist's botch job to saying it's my poor hair care and fast gray growth - not their lousy color product - that washes out in three weeks for someone who only washes 3x a week. I told them I used to spend $8 for box color that lasted a good 6 weeks, and my hair was very healthy and the "stylist" (me) was on time and didn't give me rude treatment. They could care less about your budget, or your plans for your hair. I'll summarize here to save you, and if you want more detail, go on. Pics tell the story - **see captions, not in the right order.** Pics 1-2 - First highlight was gorgeous though I wanted a little more highlights by the face the next time. That was Kam's plan actually. Even in the sun - beautiful brown hair with complimentary warm highlights that didn't look harsh or too red. Pic 3 - Peyton was asked to go by the notes and take the highlight to the next but still subtle level. She heavily highlighted the "mohawk" portion of my head - outer layers, not deeper, and not anywhere else. My husband knew I spent $250 and loved Kam's first one, but said this was so disproportionate and too light. Maj's answer was first denial that Peyton didn't follow the notes, and then told me I needed to remember that they were just helping out while Kam was out (so take what I get, or they weren't held to any standards??) Pic 4 - since, they've been heavily toning my hair to where the highlights are about gone, the hair has a red outer layer but is just brown, I have a 3" dark base touch up strip with part in middle now (5 weeks) and it meets the old reddish more multi tonal hair, plus as many times as I've told Kam I HATE my widow's peak, she's shrugged me off and this time, my widow's peak is for sure what stands out - in addition to her and another jr stylist styling me and leaving me $150 later to try to wash the bad stains off my temples myself!! UNACCEPTABLE to anyone! I saw Kam slathering that on my face but figured she had a remover and would take care of it. I took this as a passive aggressive slap - protecting their own - and here's another indication of that. Knowing I have a desk job - Kam complained 4x about people taking stimulus $ and then said, "No one wants to work. Everybody just wants to sit behind a desk." RUDE....it was the final straw of how she treated me all along. My mom and sis used to joke and tell me to go take my beating every time they knew I was going to this salon. My husband hung in, too, for a while. Read on for more, but unless you just keep your mouth shut, let them do what they want, and be willing to bend over on price and double charges - and be ok with lateness, mix ups on time allotment, and having juniors do your hair to bail her out on overbooking, stay away and don't let the family/friends phony great reviews suck you in and make you stay as long as I did! When i went to Maj to reverse a botched Peyton highlight (Kam was on maternity leave), she was sweet at first and then called me a liar, and the three accused me of ruining my own hair when Peyton decided to light up my crown with a mass of highlights. I hated it so much from day 1 that three weeks in when all faded and got even lighter, I used an Aveda plant based anti-brass product for darker hair so not to face the embarrassment of having a family member visit and see! They protect their own, and you're dead at that point once it's known you're not happy, and so I decided I'd be an idiot to return there for today's appt. - $250 later. Nope. Oh, as has happened multiple times, I was supposed to get a cut, base color and highlight today, and per typical, ever since the first good cut and beautiful highlight she gave me, Kam only has me down for a touch up.....horrible time manager, overbooks and has jr stylists doing my hair, makes me wait etc. The base only appt. and no highlight after almost 3 months also shows you the overcorrection plan going on since my highlight was botched. They've been putting toner on it while denying anything happened, which means I have no highlights, monotonal darker hair but with a red outer layer - everything I did for $8 and had healthy hair with color that lasted 6 weeks! read more

WOW! After my review I started getting harassed through Yelp by a couple of people who clearly have some affiliation with the salon. One of them registered just to send me harassing comments through Yelp, she has no other reviews. Now they are telling me I just wanted something for free and what a dishonest, unethical, and dumb person I am... Not sure how smart these people are because attacking me directly is not gonna help the salon one bit, my review thread is just gonna get longer... They dug through my profile and found a one star review for PCH and told me in their nasty comment that I want to "stiff businesses and am a horrible customer". For a while now, i'd been debating on cutting my hair and after looking through countless styles and salons I finally made the decision to cut it and decided to try Maj's Salon out because it's so close to where I live. I live across the street and was driving by to go to my usual choice for haircuts when I decided to give this place a try. The owner, Maj, was there with a couple others and they welcomed me right in. I didn't have an appointment, but they had me in a chair getting my haircut in a matter of a minute or two. Drianna cut my hair and was super friendly and did a great job. The salon was clean and I have nothing but good things to say about them. A male walk in haircut was $15. Can't beat that! Starting off by saying this is not about my stylist, Melissa did great I've had my haircut by her before but first time at this location, I followed her here, but the owner is shady. I called letting them know that I got a flat on my way and it was being fixed, if it was a problem I could reschedule. Maj asked how late i was running i told her 20 mins (it took 25) she said no it's fine you're just getting a basic cut & style, come in! Cool! So I made the drive got there Melissa looked at my hair we talked about what I wanted (trim and bangs) then she went to speak with Maj at the front desk came back and said it would be $50 for the cut and style, great we get started Melissa was great did a good job then just as she is finishing up Maj called her to the front desk they talked I walked up and Maj said it'll be $85. I reminded her she said $50, she said because Melissa used the curling iron on me it was $85 so $35 extra because she used the curling iron to add some waves to my hair! Apparently that's not part of styling it?!? If I would've been told that price upfront I wouldn't have had a problem, i was already speaking with Melissa about coming in later this week to touch up my color but the fact that she didn't have the prices listed and then charged whatever she felt like is why I'm giving it one star. I don't like the way this owner does business, Melissa was great and if she were somewhere else I'd go to her again but unfortunately I won't be back to this location. They didn't tell me how long I would wait. After they finished washing their clients hair I asked how much for the bangs. They said $8. I said I saw it was $6. She said no. I mentioned outside it says on the board Walk In Welcome. She said no appointment. Why didn't she tell me when I came in! I didn't get their names. Today, Tuesday around 11am. This is a nice place on the inside, and it looks really well taken care of. The staff seem nice. I came in to get a consultation a few months ago. The lady who was helping me was very kind, but I wanted her opinion on how I could straighten my hair, or what they could do to make it more straight and less thick. It seemed like she didn't want to give me any advice, and basically said that she didn't want me to straighten it. I really struggle with my hair and my thickness, and it was like she wasn't understanding what I needed. I just want my hair thinner and more straight, because I hate the thickness! I don't even know where to begin other than my hair was an absolute mess after going to 3 stylists since moving here in August 2019. Truth be told, I was with my hair stylist for over 25 years so I knew replacing her was going to be tough. When I first stepped into the salon, I felt such a great energy/aura everywhere. I called, not expecting to be able to get an appointment on a holiday weekend but was able to get one for the next day. Showed up and was immediately greeted and made to feel welcome. Met Payton who talked to me about what color and cut I was thinking about. She gave some wonderful suggestions and we went from there. 90 minutes later I had beautiful color and a cut that looks great! Also got my eyebrows waxed. I highly recommend this Salon and Payton. My daughter and I both went in and had appointments with two different hair stylists. We both had pictures of what we wanted and both of us were very disappointed. Also, the prices on the website ARE NOT indicative of what it will actually cost. I got a haircut and color and my daughter got a haircut and I was charged $240! According to the website our haircuts should have been $45 each and an all over color should start at 70$. Because they used two bowls of color they stated they had to charge me extra. So I was charged $150 for the color. I realize that some places do charge this, but to advertise $70 and charge $150 for a basic all over color is absolutely outrageous. I've never been charged MORE THAN DOUBLE for extra color. Will not be going back. Stylists don't listen and they lie about costs. After reading great reviews thought I would try a new salon. Took a picture of what I wanted basically same hair cut in a Bob I have worn for years. The stylist then proceeded to cut my hair so short it literally is a man's cut. Also paid for highlights that were in chunks on top of my head. Worst salon experience ever. Went to another salon and while they were sympathetic, were unable to fix, hair needs to grow. They noted even the cut was uneven, sides not equal. Completely dissatisfied. I have NEVER written a review in my life even if I was not particularly satisfied but this experience has compelled me to as I want consumers out there to be informed. I scheduled a full highlight and was quoted $75. My hairstylist asked me what I was looking for. I brought a picture so the stylist could without a doubt understand. She indicated she will tone down my hair color first then she will show me some different colors to choose from. Well, instead of a "highlight" all she did was leave the toner in my hair, rinsed it out and styled it. I was pleased with the color but when I got home, I realized I did not receive the services I had paid for. So I called and spoke with Maj, the owner of the salon, who remembered me. She confirmed that I did not receive a highlight, but rather they just toned down my color and it was $75 because they had to use so much product? My hair is mid- length, and you need to use $75 worth of toner?? How does that make sense? She said I could come back and get my highlight but that I would have to pay another $75 for it. I asked her how that was fair? I'm not deaf but she began to raise her voice and say the same thing over and over about what misunderstanding took place. I could hardly get a word in. I finally told her that her first concern should be the customer, and if a mistake was made, she needs to own up as the owner of the business and do whatever she needs to make the customer whole. It is very disturbing that all she cared about was making $$$, not making it right for the customer. Why would I pay twice for services that were not rendered in the first place? If Maj has owned up and offered to highlight my hair as I had paid for, she would have had a customer for life and I would have brought her a lot of referrals. Instead, I will be telling everyone to go elsewhere. It is truly a shame that a business owner only cares about making money instead of having satisfied customers.
