Dr. Mak and his office are fantastic. I recently had to get some serious cosmetic dentistry performed so I decided to switch dentists after 15 years to ensure that the job was done right. Most dental offices can competently clean teeth and fill cavities, but the best dentists get the "artistic" side of the business right. Dr. Mak has eliminated many sleepless nights by fixing my problems and making my teeth look better than they ever have before. He's a perfectionist for sure and I couldn't be happier. And unlike some medical practices that have great doctors and rude office staff, EVERY person at this practice is happy and helpful. The dental assistants are wonderful and the staff at the front counter are very friendly. This is a BIG office with a lot of patients to be sure, but it runs very smoothly and I'll never go anywhere else. read more

Best dental practice I have found in the Pasadena area, IF you make sure your appointment is with Dr. Kleiger himself. The dental skills in the practice vary greatly. Twice for major procedures (crown, filling), a different dentist has done the work and while they wer nice people, there was a major problem with the procedure that required the procedure to be re-done. When Dr. Kleiger re-did the work, it was perfect. I wish I had insisted on him each time. His approach is very clearly more skillful. He also genuinely cares for the patients. The practice is well-run business wise. Unfortunately, the hygienists also vary a lot. (I am not sure who does the hiring and why they can't insist on the highest quality hygienists). I would recommend you keep notes on the hygienists whom you feel are gentle enough yet thorough enough and request them by name. read more

I've been a patient of Dr. Mak for three years. While he is great, thorough, patient and takes his time with you, I'm giving this doctors office four stars. This is due to dealing with the front staff. The cleaning hygienist are mostly fine. Some are great and personable while others are cold and seem to not care about their patients. Again, the front staff is awful and it's every time. Not just with me but I see this treatment with everyone that comes into the office. This dentist office only accepts PPO dental insurance, they do know their patients can go anywhere else for services, right? I'm considering it. read more

I've been going to Dr. Mak for about 2 years now, ever since I moved to LA. I had an excellent dentist before so it was very difficult to try to find a new one. Okay, everyone says they have the best dentist, but unless this is where they go; they are incorrect. Best and calm caring environment is located in this state of the art office. My family all use this office and love the outcome of the work. Every tooth gets beautiful restoration with the greatest staff around. The website is a great tool to begin with. The billing staff is accurate and will let you know what to expect! If you are nervous, the staff talks you through and has great suggestions. The very best price on the Phillips recommended brush was easy to get. After many dentists that seemed to nickel and dime you... That just does not happen here. Your concerns matter. The X-rays are state of the art. If you have Delta make certain you get the ones covered for you. My hygienist educated me further on the how's and whys to do extra at home care with confidence and good spirits. Now the impossible is possible! Technology is used to support the patient. After a family member needed WISDOM extractions, we were up against te clock. Done, and done well. Communication between the offices was extraordinary in the minds of the surgeon, patient, and parents! Smooth and stress free dentistry is here. Ask for music or bring your iPod if that is your thing. This is not a place that wasted money on ceiling televisions. You are able to get your needs met here. These guys are fantastic. Literally everyone here - the admin, front desk staff, dental hygienists, & the dentists are gems. I needed a filling and had a lot of anxiety about going in to get it done. They were incredibly supportive and Dr. Mak got it done in less than a few minutes. He was very patient in answering all of my questions and making sure I knew what to expect. I also was very grateful for Sai (apologies for my spelling). Sai helped calm my nerves and provided a realistic expectation of what the process would be like. I really can't express my gratitude in words for how helpful the Doctor and the entire staff was. This is as good as it gets - I travel nearly an hour each way to get here. I had horrible memories of going to the dentist as a child, and then as a young adult I started going to a dentist who always kept us waiting and never kept up with modern dentistry. I thought it was the "norm" to come back three or four times for a crown. Then five years ago a friend recommended DR. RODNEY KLEIGER. I walked in the office and was so impressed with the staff, the cleaniness of the office, the modern technology but especially DR. KLEIGER. He is so good at what he does and is PAINLESS. He has a wonderful chair-side manner and is always concerned about how you are feeling while you are in his chair. He also doesn't look for problems that don't exist. We are all entitled to our opinion so here is mine: I have nothing but good things to say about both dentists and their staff! They are professional but also personable. I was desparate to find a new dentist after the previous one recommended pulling 6-8 of my daughter's baby teeth! A friend referred Mak & Kleiger to us and we drive from Whittier because they are the best! We have been patients for about four years now and have never had a bad experience. They are always on time; the receptionist is especially helpful and friendly and most importantly the dentists and hygenists do great work. I 100% trust them. I even changed my dental plans when they were no longer accepting my current one because I didn't want to have to find new dentists. Okay, before they moved to the new office, it was much better- Dr. Mak saw me twice, and I received great cleanings and attention to my teeth. Then they moved to the new location, no private offices but about 10 cubicle-like set-ups and a bunch of new dentists. The dentist who saw me was very nice, but he started cleaning my teeth & after about 20 minutes asked if we could do the second half of the cleaning the next day. "uh, no." i have pretty good teeth and go regularly for check-ups, so the fact they he wanted me to take another morning off of work to continue a routine cleaning was ridiculous. when i called him on this, he kinda let it slip that they're only supposed to spend a maximum amount of time (I think he said 30 minutes) with each patient. my husband had the exact same experience- they seem to be trying to schedule as many patients in the day, and as it usually is the case when you go for quantity, the quality suffers. read more

If I could rate this practice below one star, I would. I mistakenly missed an appointment today because I did not receive a reminder call about it yesterday. Here's where it gets ridiculous. Alexis called me on my cell phone today at 3:40 reminding me of the 3:30 appointment. I had forgotten about it because it was scheduled 6 months ago at my last cleaning and I didn't put it in my iPhone calendar because they said they'd call me and remind me of it. I didn't receive a reminder call yesterday. She says they called a (213) number in the file. I say that number is not valid. Then I ask how is it that she's calling me on my cell phone...She said she went into my 19 year old daughter's file, got her number and called her asking for a contact number for me, which my daughter then gave her. Why didn't she perform that due diligence 24 hours ago for the reminder call? I am now being charged $40 for a missed appointment for me and $40 for a missed appointment for my son over an honest mistake on my part and negligence on their part. read more

I have to say, I'm a little surprised at some of the negative reviews. My husband and I have been seeing Dr. Mak and Dr. Kleiger for about five years, and our experiences have been great. There is another dentist in the office I don't care for much, and one hygienist that is a little surly, but other than that everyone else is wonderful. It's a large office, so if 90% of the employees are doing a fantastic job, I'd say it's a five star business. read more

Alright I've written a review of this slaughter house before but I've had more experience with them and feel confident in saying they are both horrible with customer service and dental procedures. Yes the doctors are pleasant and the staff back of house is nice. There's plenty of bad reviews about the front desk people which they've kept despite dozens of complaints. But I've come to realize just how bad the doctors are. One example for which I've had have multiple incidents is the doctor decided to operate on me without telling me. He literally cut into my gums without any prep. I did get numbed up but I didn't realize the was going to operate on me. He didn't really communicate much and seemed in a hurry. It was to fix something the previous dentist had done to me. Okay. That's more than enough for anyone considering this office to run for the hills. Remember I've been with them for a long time - lazy and stupid is my excuse. read more

i was a total former dental-phobe. after decades of awful dental experiences, i literally would rather have had a baby with no drugs than go for a routine dental visit. then we found dr kleiger. wow. not only does my whole family love the guy, and his work, i actually look forward to dental visits, rather than dreading them (and, of course, putting off the visits only makes the problems worse--but you knew that!) having a dentist you can trust not to hurt you or cheat you by suggesting work you don't need is a huge relief. i can't recommend him highly enough. i never thought i would be able to say i like my dentist, but that's an understatement for dr. kleiger. just the best. read more

Dr. Mak had great reviews so my husband and I had our first visit with them late '07. I was in and out in 30 minutes, including cleaning. It felt very rushed. They seemed to have a lot of dentists on staff, and was a bit surprised that someone other than Dr. Mak saw me, as I wasn't told that at the time of my booking. My husband's check up resulted in having to book another appointment for more work. After the work was completed, he had to pay on the spot for part of the work, without giving him a detailed invoice of the costs (only a bottom line). About a month later, my husband received a phone call from the office yelling at him (yes, yelling) that our insurance company needed proof that my husband and I were married. After many calls, I sorted it out. We received a new bill from them indicating what insurance didn't cover - without taking into account what we had already paid. I went in today for my 6 month checkup. I was late (my fault), and was told that the dentist would be going for lunch, and as they only allow 30 minutes per appointment that I would have to reschedule after paying $40. Its time to move on. read more
