We went to Mak Mak Thai Cuisine on Main St. in Bountiful today to get some takeout. I gotta say, I'm super impressed with this place. The food was well presented and delicious. The restaurant was clean, the cashier was super friendly, and the prices were reasonable. I love that they don't take tips--they just request reviews. Kudos to them and Cheryls Bagels for keeping this trend. We got the Drunken Noodles, MakMak Nam Tok, Chicken Nuggets, and Egg Rolls. The spice level was perfect and everything was flavorful. We'll definitely be back to try new things. read more

I'm not a sweet tooth at all so the fact that I came back outside of the Yelp Elite event just to buy more of their black sticky rice ice cream says a lot. Made my weekend much sweeter! It's more of a fast-casual spot. The menu is pretty simple with a few classic Thai dishes. The place itself is small, cute and clean with both indoor and outdoor seating (high tops, regular tables, and a condiment setup near the soda fountain). There's ample street parking. Usually packed during evening. The staff were working hard and stayed kind. I'll be back to try their other ice cream flavors and Thai dishes :) read more

Dropped in on a Friday night at 5:20 and beat the crowd. They do a steady business of both eat in and take out. It's a small space with a small menu. They don't try to be everything to everyone, but they offer all the favorites (except for maybe fresh spring rolls and pineapple fried rice). You order at the counter and the staff are friendly and helpful. Take a number and they bring out your order in plastic containers; not a fan of the waste there. The Massaman was exceptionally delicious. Excellent flavor. The tofu is prepared perfectly. The pad Thai was pretty good, not too sweet. Everything tasted fresh. The bathroom was clean and nice which is always a good sign. Overall I think they've got a good thing going. Simple and sweet for a casual meal. read more

I'm a repeat customer who found yesterday's food less delicious than usual. Three people in our party ordered 3 different dishes: pineapple fried rice w/ chicken, pineapple fried rice with beef, and Teriyaki chicken w/ broccoli. None of us liked our food. The pineapple with beef had gristle/inedible meat. The chicken was dry in the Teriyaki/broccoli dish, and the member of our group just didn't care for the Chicken/pineapple dish, only eating half and not taking leftovers home(unusual). To be fair, this was the first time anyone in my party has ordered any of these three dishes, so perhaps they just aren't our suited to our palettes. The guy taking our order was friendly and the choice of indoor and outdoor seating is a bonus, but for food that is not inexpensive or fast, it should leave customers wanting more, not less. read more

This space is SO CUTE!! It does have a good amount of seating but while I was there I did see them run out. I went during a busy time so my food did take a WHILE. I got the yellow curry with an egg roll and thai tea and overall it was good. The staff is really friendly and was super apologetic because of the wait. This was a fun and cute little Thai restaurant that I'm glad I tried. They have a few tables outside was well which is nice because it's not a real big place. The service was pretty quick. I ordered the Pad Thai with chicken. It was great! Portion size was perfect for me. The spring rolls are crispy and the dipping sauce is yummy. The Thai tea wasn't my favorite. This is the cutest little Thai place in bountiful. Right when you walk through the door you can smell the delicious aroma of Thai cuisine. I tried an egg roll, Thai tea and Mak Mak Nom Tok, pad Thai, a fried chicken and rice dish. The chicken was very flavorful and has a nice lime flavor to it. My son and I both loved the egg roll as well. The this tea wasn't my favorite but I'm not much of a tea person. The staff were very friendly and tv place was packed for lunch which is always a good sign. read more

We stuck to the basics and ordered Pad Thai, Massaman Curry, Pad See Ew, and Mak Mak Chicken. Every dish was packed with great flavors, and the ingredients were clearly fresh. I really like the concept of fast-casual Thai food (points for something new), but this place fell flat just like its two Bountiful counterparts. The specials listed outside were not actually available, so everyone who came in asking about Thai beef jerky was told flatly that they don't have it...then erase the board! When ordering, my husband asked for no onions and his curry was filled with them. My pad see ewe was incredibly bland and disproportionate- about 95% noodles and 5% tiny pieces of chicken, veggies, and eggs. The element that saved my meal was the spice container on our table, which packed a punch! The egg roll was pretty good too, very fresh and crunchy. They only offer chicken and tofu. I'm rooting for them to figure some things out, since they're new- Bountiful really needs a place like this, with some improvements. Will give it a few months before trying again. read more

Tried this place for the first time and will focus on the food: the Pad Thai was good (not amazing, but enjoyable), the sweet and sour chicken was solid, and the dry Khao Soi was excellent--definitely the standout dish. The food was fresh and well-priced, making it a good value overall. Service was decent, but a couple of things stood out. The ambiance could use some refinement. The music selection (rap/soul) didn't quite match the vibe I'd expect for a Thai restaurant. While it may appeal to a younger crowd, it wasn't for me. Additionally, there was some sort of lively "slap-and-tickle" game happening that felt a bit out of place in a dining setting. The restaurant is clean, and they've done a good job converting this former Greek spot into a cozy space for Thai food, though seating is limited. Wandering around my old neighborhood with nostalgia, we were looking for another restaurant but ended up walking into Mak Mak. The restaurant itself is a super simple store front, the fans from the back blow the food particles on the tables so it feels kind of sticky and hot but the restaurant is clean other than that. The food makes up for the ambiance , The Panang Curry is deliciously spicy and perfectly balanced, in cold November it's like eating a spicy hug. I loved the big pieces of veggies and how perfectly cooked they were. The drunken noodles were equally as delicious. The only thing that was disappointing was the egg rolls. They leave a lot to be desired, I would love to see better egg rolls or another option for appetizers. Honestly though this was the best Thai food I've had in a while and the service was super quick and nice. We're definitely going to visit again soon! read more

Do not do an online order here. I did an online order and after I paid and submitted it, it gave me an "updated time" of 30 minutes longer than what it told me before. I went to the restaurant knowing they usually make food in 15 minutes and hoping they could fix it. But instead I waited 45 minutes at the restaurant. People came and ordered their food, ate and left in the time I was still waiting. They told me they had to prioritize dine in people. Even though I was there. And they said they would put a rush on my order. In the end in wasn't even ready at the 60 minute time the app said. It took 75 minutes to make an order for one family. They told me they don't have any control over the app. So don't use the app to order. read more

This was definitely had a neat vibe however I was very disappointed in the pad Thai. It tastes like none I have had before with a very strong vinegar taste. I could not figure out why it tasted this way. Level 1 was mostly no heat. Pad Thai is typically my go to however I ended up throwing most of it away. This is normally one is my favorite meals but it was dry with little flavoring. The egg roll tasted like the frozen kinds you get at a grocery store. Very small portions as well. I was excited to see a third Thai place open in Bountiful! It wasn't very long ago that there were zero in the area. This is more casual than the other two places; you go to the counter to order. The restaurant is also very small, so no large groups could be accommodated at the same table. They do have two small tables outside though, which would be nice in the evenings. read more

Mak Mak Tai is so good! It's a fast casual Thai place with amazing food and an even better lunch deal--$10 for a dish, eggroll, and a drink. Such a steal. We tried this with some friends. It was a last minute hey let's try this new place. We did not know what to expect but we loved it. Portions are big and full of flavor. My wife would prefer less spice but other than that we loved it. Another place to go in Bountiful. Their Khai Soi was large and spicy. We split it and left stuffed. There was no service simply teenagers putting together food that tasted like it was frozen. The noodles we're uh, mushed together almost like they had been overcooked and then tried to be made mashed like a potato, they were very flavoriless. My partner's food had a very small amount of vegetables in it. Was also flavorless, and for some odd reason they were greasy, this is not real Thai food. Very fun to have a new restaurant in Bountiful. It's counter service, basically Thai fast food. It's also small, so get there early! In warm weather, there is some outdoor seating (2 tables when I was there). The employees were all very friendly, polite and efficient, answering questions and providing the items I requested (e.g. recommendations, questions about spiciness, to-go items). The food comes in to-go containers, without lids if you say you are eating in (easy enough to acquire lids if you decide to take it home). Eating utensils are compostable, kudos for that, very appreciated. The menu is small, but what I tried was mostly good. Check out Makmak Thai!
