Thai Archer is one of the most popular Thai restaurants in Salt Lake City. The purple building alone catches your attention. Having dined here a couple of times over the last decade I'm excited to finally write this review. The cream cheese wontons are pretty standard, crunchy, and delicious. The satay skewers are also pretty standard with a sweet peanut sauce. My personal favorite dish is the Pad Jao Pra Ya. The vegetables, chicken, and peanut sauce are delicious and the perfect medley. The murder wings are also delicious with a spicy bbq sauce. The Pad Thai is our favorite in Utah! The Pad See ew is good, but left more to be desired. Another delicious takeout from Thai Archer!! I think I mentioned it last time, but obviously forgotten, I think Thai Archer might be my favorite!! Ordered on DoorDash and everything was perfect!! My husband got Fried Rice with tofu, our son got Drunken Noodles with pork and our daughter got Eggplant Stir Fry with chicken. I got the Sweet and Sour with tofu and it was hands down the best I've ever had!!! Perfectly seasoned!! I've only gotten takeout, but have never been disappointed!! It was a hot summer day, riding on my bike home after a strenuous shift. Passing thai archer I thought to myself, why not just pop in. Upon entrance I was greeted with an immediate sunny seat by the window. I got the thai murder wings, with a mango smoothie, the combination of these two items could not have been more divine. I'm embarrassed to say it's taken me a decade to try this little Thai option off 11th in my neck of the woods. There are some really solid Thai options in SLC and I tend to get set in my ways with my faves. The experience, food, service and ambience were nice overall though I think I'll probably lean back into my go to Thai faves going forward and I have a couple of reasons why: 1) No alcoholic bevvys. If I'm going out to dinner at a restaurant, as an adult, this is a no brainer. Thai Archer needs a liquor license. Feeling fuzzy will always elevate the food and social experience. 2) Small/cramped/slightly shabby space. The Asian decor worked but it felt like the space was maze-like, unintentional, too small, and needing some updates and love. I appreciated locality and family owned feel, but it does need some investment. Also, the front facade has always been off putting for me - looks like roughly cut and painted purple plywood installed against a converted Sugarhouse bungalow, and it doesn't work. 3) Food was good and above average, but it lacked personality and memorability. The red and yellow curries were flavorful, as was the Tom Yum soup. The Thai tea wasn't my jam. I do think with some investment this could be a local gem with booming business, but it doesn't feel like a priority of the current ownership. This place is never packed, but that may be intentional and part of the charm that is this little low-key and overlooked Thai option in Sugarhouse. read more

I kept driving by this place while in the neighborhood and wanted to check it out simply for the design from the outside. I love the building decor and flags on the patio. It looked like a traditional Thai place and I had to check out the food. The space appears to be a house that was remodeled for the restaurant so the tables are set in rooms. It's small and quaint yet has plenty of seating. We were seated along the front windows and there was a draft coming up from the floor or window so it made our legs cold. We each ordered Boba smoothie (1 mango and 1 milk tea) and an order of the cream cheese wontons to start. We wanted the chicken satay but they were all out. Hubby ordered the Moo Yang (Thai BBQ pork) and I ordered the Pad Siew for the entrees. Wontons were nice and crisp yet still chewy on the outside with the soft gooey center and the sauce was a perfect sweet and sour and the right color. Moo yang -Pork is nice and tender, the sauce is sweet and tangy with just a little heat (ordered level 1), and the rice is cooked perfectly sticky. The dish is really just pork with some cabbage and rice on the side. So he said he would recommend getting it as a dish to share with the rice and then order a veggie dish to compliment it. Pad Siew- noodles were good and the veggies were steamed with just enough crispness to counter the softness of the noodles. The sauce had a bit of heat to the finish, more than I would have liked ordering a 0 level spice, and it had some more ginger flavor than I am used to, but it was still delicious. Portion was bigger than the pork so I had leftovers but that's just a bonus for tomorrow. Boba smoothie was so good with a spot on consistency and the flavor popped. Interesting to have the milk tea blended as the hubby usually has it over ice. We ordered coconut sticky rice with mangoes for dessert and it was soooo good. Rice was sticky and creamy and the mangoes were ripe. I also enjoyed the raspberry coulis drizzle around the plate. Service was a little spotty and spaced out (waited to place orders, then had several people checking on us during the meal, then we had to wait again for the check and wait again to run the card). It seemed like they were swamped with how long it took, but there were only 4 tables seated while we were there. Staff was friendly perhaps they were just short staffed or new. Overall food was good; I just have other favorite places I was comparing all the dishes to so it didn't necessarily come up to those standards. read more

Bit of a mixed review, I came to try the lunch special ($9) and was surprisingly disappointed. I got the Tom Kha Soup and sweet soy stir fry with mushrooms. I liked the soup, but I would get it with a 1 or 2 spice level (out of 4) since it doesn't add to the flavor and I think they just add in chili flakes I think. The soy stir fry was basically inedible it was so salty. I got both of my entrees with tofu instead of chicken, and that may have been the issue cause the tofu was terrible. It was dry, tough and chewy, and tasted as if it was cooked a while ago and then tossed into the dishes at the last moment. I was very disappointed, especially since the tofu was the same price as the chicken. Don't know if that was an off day or what but they definitely need to do better with their tofu, and making it even slightly cheaper would incentivize more ppl to choose the vegetarian option. While alone this would be a 2 star experience, I am giving 3 still because I have been a couple other times and have really enjoyed their tender and juicy BBQ pork as well as the Mango Sticky Rice. I also like that you can upgrade your drink to Thai Tea or Thai Coffee for an extra $1 on the lunch special. But the tofu game needs a serious step up. read more

During my last visit, we had ordered a shrimp dish and the shrimp were undercooked and raw inside and we had to send it back. Nothing tasted like Thai food whatsoever. My pad thai was covered in a tomato-flavored sauce - no tamarind or peanut flavor whatsoever - with only minimal chicken, eggs that tasted horrible, and carrots that tasted past their expiration date. The dumplings lacked any flavor. The Thai Murder Wings that were supposed to be covered in a Thai hot and spicy herbs sauce were covered in what tasted like a generic BBQ sauce and again just horrible. Someone in my group got the Weeping Tiger that was 1/4 meat and the rest was gristle and fat so it was basically inedible and not a full entree at all. I had pahd Ma Kua (egg plant stir fried) with tofu and it was so delicious. I haven't been to Thailand so I don't know if this is authentic, but the taste itself was so convincing! I'd love to point out that their rice is very good too. I used to find it hard to find a place that has really good rice and this place makes the list. My curb side order was good. The staff here are really nice and prompt on food and drinks. Though the service was good, the food is average. I tried their pineapple curry, tom yum soup, and pork belly stir fry. I'm still not convinced this would make it in my top favorite Thai spots. If you live nearby it's a great place to quickly satisfy your Thai cravings though. Likes: Friendly staff, clean restaurant, extensive menu, cute patio seating, vegan friendly. Dislike: Boba was hard, but the smoothie was refreshing and light for a hot summer day. Consistently delicious. I love that this neighborhood spot exists, because it just had delicious dishes. We ordered for pickup, and it was yet again another top notch meal. I ordered the Pahd Jao Pra Ya - a peanut buttery sauce with veggies and i added pork as my protein. Let me tell you, that dish was amazing. I wanted so much more broccoli because of how the sauce was soaked up by the florets was too tasty. It was my first time getting this dish, and I know that I will be ordering it again. My typical go to is the Gang Keow Wan (Green curry). Another note - i always order pork, and at so many restaurants it is just dry. Not at Thai Archer. Your girl loves some SPICY food and Thai Archer deeeelivers. This place is incredibly cute and has wonderful Thai food for a great price. They are vegetarian friendly and can probably make vegan upon request. Everything I, and my friends,have tried so far is delish. I recently had the pineapple curry with tofu and it had a nice heat and sweet flavor. Other favorites around the table include BBQ pork ribs, Tom kha soup, cream cheese wontons, and sweet & sour chicken. Along with this, their Thai iced tea is super yum! I have been looking for a place like this For-Ever! Flavor explosion all three dishes. And I found my Basil dish that tastes like my favorite Thai in California. Price averages around 10.50 a dish. We did family style and ordered three dishes for 2 people and had some to take home. Panang Curry with Pork was a flavor unlike any Curry in SLC, spice is Mild to warming. Larb Gai- blended chicken soaked with lime juice, mint, and onions... This is a good blend of everything. I may not order this here again. Pad ga prow- Stir fried with strong fresh Basil and gentle Jalapeno flavor and powerful fish. I have looked all over Utah for this amazing dish! That is a winner!!! Clean restaurant with a cafe type of seating. The waitress never let my water get half empty. She was very attentive and gave great personal preferences for the curry. We took her advice on the Panang Curry and we are very happy with the whole dish! All the veggies are fresh! Slightly firm but perfectly flavored.
