This place is a dump and the staff are the rudest people I've ever dealt with. We are here on vacation and have constantly dealt with hassles here. We arrived at 7pm on our first night and were forced to wait for 1 hour to even park and go to our air bnb unit. They said we weren't authorized to be here until the owner of the unit FAXED in a letter of consent. Who even owns a fax machine these days?Apparently, these people don't use modern technology. After the hassle of that, we had to wonder around the entire property to find our unit because the buildings are incorrectly marked and you can only drive one-way. There are peacocks here which are beautiful but what you don't find out until nighttime is that they never shut up. The walls are paper thin and you hear them ALL NIGHT! My son and I were talking a walk and the lady at the security post sprayed a peacock right in our direction also spraying us and didn't even have the decency to apologize. The unit itself was in shambles and I don't believe the filters have ever been changed. That's a problem with the unit owner but still wanted to mention it. It seems people from out-of-state buy these condos and rent them out with minimal upkeep. The ads say "resort-style" amenities and that's absolutely laughable. I've been here a week and I'm still waiting to see which amenities they're referring to. The pool has been closed the entire time we've been here and I've asked management twice when it will be fixed and they say "tomorrow" and that day never came during our entire trip. The worker "fixing" the pool has spent maybe 20 minutes a day "working" and blames the weather but the weather is actually amazing. I call BS and they're lazy. The three workers in the office all ganged up on me and were making excuses and claiming there are workers at the pool but I can see the pool directly from my room. That makes them liars AND lazy AND rude. Next is finding the laundry and how to pay for it. Good luck. I downloaded two apps and tried the tap-to-pay option located on each machine. Finally washed my clothes after all that. They forced us to park on the other side of the property. There's no access to the office or staff at reasonable times. Especially for those traveling. There are absolutely no signs anywhere and the ones they do have are incorrect. If you're visiting Hawaii, DO NOT STAY HERE. I don't want other families to deal with what we had to. The drive to any worthy beaches like Waikiki and other places is atleast 1 hour to 2 hours. The beaches on the west side (where this is located) are completely overrun with the homeless population. Theres one restaurant close by at the country club, Loliki lounge, that should be condemned. Its disgusting and we found dead roaches, no soap in the bathroom, and dirty dishes and tables. Just take my advice and don't stay here. The pictures are deceiving but the view is pretty. That's the only positive I have. I hate this place read more

When I stayed at the Makaha Valley Towers through Airbnb and had a pleasant experience. The property is gated and there is someone guarding the gate, we felt safe. You need a sticker or pass placed on your car to park here. There is plenty of parking. There are many peacocks that roam the property, they aren't aggressive/territorial and let you walk through without approaching you or attacking. Late in the night/early morning you will hear them, they make a sound very similar to a cat. The complex is quiet, and the neighbors are friendly. The complex has a pool and grilling area on site. There is a beach about a mile away, it isn't crowded, I even saw a sea turtle on the beach. If you like to golf there is also a golf course walking distance away. My boyfriend golfed there and said it beautiful and wasn't crowded so he enjoyed it and didn't feel rushed at all. read more

Came here to stay for a week. Sign on elevators says swimming pool and bbq renovations happening thru 9/22. Ask of the pool will be available after and get an odd response. There has been absolutely no work occurring since we've been here. I don't understand why the pool is closed but it s annoying as hell. read more

This place is awesome!!!! Beautiful view. Excellent grounds. Very clean!! This is not a hotel or a resort. This is a condo that people live in. So yes there are rules and parking is a bit of a pain. That being said staff was VERY friendly and I appreciate that there was a ton of security. Beach is a walking distance or a 3 min car rIde. Makaha valley is off the beaten path few places to eat and no "shopping". If you want those things stay Waikiki. Want to relax and enjoy simple like this is the place. read more

My husband and I stayed here (with Airbnb) in March for our honeymoon! We absolutely loved it. It is up in the green area of the mountains, but still has an ocean view. It is out of the way- which feels very safe with tight security. There is beautiful trees, flowers and peacocks on the property! Perfect place to stay for a couple or small family! read more

Air BnB home-away-from for the week. Really dig it so far! The place *totally*, from afar, looks like a long-since-abandoned Chernobyl high rise, or a set from Fallout... scary looking in the light and distance! !...but it's pretty great as you approach and actually get here. We're in an end building, 9th floor. .. SUPER views!! The ocean is the horizon, flanked by some stunning mountains. One entire wall of the condo is glass... it's pretty incredible. The condo itself is pretty small, but the view and the not-in-a-Honolulu-hotel-room completely compensate for that. Neat property amenities. .. Families of peacocoks roaming, and I "met" some mongooses/mongeese today. .. SO cute, but apparently total invasive jerks that eat the native bird eggs. ...and I really wanted to like those guys too! Whomp. Laundry rooms operate on this prepaid debit card type system, so no need to hunt down quarters. There *is* elevator service in the buildings. !!Tons of real-world-size parking spots.!! :) :) read more

We have been an owner here since the 70's and i have been coming here my whole life. This time the old cranky woman that hate their life are absolutely out of control! My two Boys have never bothered a lap swimmer here once! They are the most well behaved kids, and i watch them closet and always make sure they respect the lap swimmers. This one however was talking crap about my kids to her friend today, and made up a total lie and pointed at them and said she had been kicked in the face by them. NEVER HAPPENED and never will. It's a shame that these woman totally hate kids and find the need to harass them. She needs to realize it's not her pool, it's a community pool and we deserve respect just like her! We were still within the line and there were several parking spaces left, in fact more parking spaces available than not available. They called us at 9pm to walk down and move our car. It's not a short walk. And it freaked us out because we didn't believe something could be this ridiculous, we didn't believe it was actually security calling us to come out. (We are two girls.) We found security driving around to ask if this was real? The gal who we stopped was different than the man who called us. But she was also rude and spoke down to us while we genuinely questioned what was wrong? We sincerely thought it was a mistake of some kind. read more

Unit 708 owned by Stephen- absolute nightmare! Stay away! I stayed at the condo in April and May 2021. Before renting with the owner/Stephen I made it clear that I would be there working remotely on Zoom calls, and the owner said the condo would be perfect for that. When I reported the below noise issues the owner refused to make it right. VRBO tried to intervene and asked Stephen to let me out of the rental early, but he refused and kept my money. It's up to owners to make things right-VRBO leaves disputes to owners and renters. Beware of the owners you book with, especially this one. If you pay up front, you basically throw away your money with this place. Stephen tried to get me to sign an agreement with him outside of VRBO when I first contacted him to rent, I now understand that he did this so I wouldn't have any recourse once the construction (outlined below) started. Somehow Stephen got my review of the rental erased on VRBO's website. I hate that other people will waste their hard earned money with him and this place. -LOUD Peacocks: The property has a population of ~50 peacocks that live on site year around and are VERY NOISY day and night. They start at 4am! I couldn't sleep, even with earplugs in. I couldn't conduct business meetings with these animals in the background constantly. -CONSTRUCTION: There was jack hammering and drilling going on for almost my entire stay. The condo staff informed me that owners were made aware of it in advance. Stephen did not tell me that it would be happening and took zero responsibility for it. -LOCATION: Makaha is the WORST PART OF THE OF THE ISLAND. There is meth/crack addiction outside the property. Homeless people are using drugs or withdrawing from them-- very sad & scary. Many homeless encampments lining the streets around the property. The listing description is false. It's far from everything you might want to see and do. With traffic (everyday) it take 50 minutes to an hour to get to a decent grocery store. For dining or shopping, it's 1 hour. There is only one road in and out of Makaha--so much traffic! So not worth staying here. - SLOW WIFI: Zoom sessions were spotty and had to end early. -BUGS& DIRTY: Cockroaches and pests in the unit! The unit was dirty, hair and dirty everywhere. Stephen said he and his wife cleaned it and bugs were a part of the island. Unsure why I was charged a cleaning fee when he "cleaned" the unit himself. The towels in the unit are moldy. Balcony doors broken, couldn't get out to the very tiny patio. The washing machines don't work on the floor, and they ate my money several times. Of course, Stephen didn't care. I had to lug my clothes to a different floor to wash my clothes. The power went out several times. Stephen said that was normal. read more

This review is coming a bit late as I was here back in September when I flew to Hawaii for a new position I took. I stayed at Makaha for a week while I was in the area and it was a great time. I'll be honest, driving up to it, I didn't think it was going to be very nice, but the apartment was very well-kept and had great views. The staff (security guards in particular) were very helpful, suggested some things to do in the area, places to shop, etc. It may sound silly to someone that lives there, but my favorite part? PEACOCKS ROAMING THE GROUNDS! I could not believe it! We just don't have that on the mainland and it was amazing. I don't have any intention of moving to Hawaii but if I did, I would definitely consider living here! :) read more

This place is horrible the security makes this place an unpleasant experience. They must've not passed the police academy so they are in need of attention and authority. Don't stay here. Not worth it. I will not come back. Nor will I ever recommend this place. Actually, this place is so bad I will tell everyone I know not to come here. We were offered the opportunity through family friends to rent a beautiful condo, and we are so grateful we did! Details and expectations were clearly explained from the beginning, and in turn, we felt very secure. Staff and security treated us respectfully, kindly and very helpful. We had multiple opportunities to interact with all of them due to the terrible wind storms and damage to the condo's sliding glass door. The property is very well maintained and their team had things cleaned up on the grounds within 2 days, and our owners (who are on the mainland) were able to make connections with a local glass company who made the window repair within 4!! The ocean views, sunrises, and sunsets, and almost daily rainbows within the towering mountain ranges were amazing!! The most beautiful beaches on the island are within walking distance or a 5-minute drive. We were warmly welcomed at the pool and monthly celebrations. It was so nice to be able to explore the entire island and had realistic expectations of rush hour traffic (or the lack thereof during other times) compared to the more populated areas of Oahu. Highly recommend and hope to return!! read more

Gorgeous condos. We had a third floor room; there were huge glass sliding doors that opened onto a balcony that overlooked the pool. There's grills and picnic tables for dinners outside. It's a pretty location, just far from most of the sights in Oahu (1 or so drive). Security is nice, the other people are also nice; the wifi just cuts out a lot, which is inconvenient. read more

If I could give this place 0 stars that what their raring would be. I have never lived in a place that I could not have guests over. They would not let me move out in a timely manner and I was harassed the entire time I was moving by their security guards. At one point one security guard cornered me and my belongings while he was on his golf cart and wouldn't let me pass. Then the next time I came down the stairs he offered to buy my paintings. These people are the worst people to to live around. I do not recommend to live here or even stay one night. I am also writing the better business bureau.. read more

Although there were a few things i wasn't so fond of like the noisy peacocks, the pool/bbq hours, and the hoa is a little strict on their policies. Unfortunately I wouldn't recommend this property to anyone. I personally had a ridiculous experience with there out dated parking situation. There office closes at 8pm and closes on the weekends and when we decided to keep our rental for one more night I was denied access to parking on the property, my money was refused at the gate, the office staff on call wouldn't answer so the security escorted me off the property and told me to park at the beach. It was 1am in the morning, my family was asleep in the car, the beach is a mile down the pitch black hill, every street just off the property is a tow away zone and theres parking everywhere on this property. There are so many vacancies here there no reason for this type of treatment. Theres alot of homeless and car break ins here so on my last night as a guest I slept in the car to avoid being towed on our last night in Hawaii. The lack of aloha here is outrageous. read more

OmG!!! . I didn't rent a condo here, our friends did. The unit they rented was nice. Nicely decorated and roomy. The owner even had a list of places to check out in the area if we were interested. The one star is for the rules and security guard that is inconsistent with upholding the gazillion rules at this complex. First of all, the security people here take their jobs very seriously, which I have no issue with. We saw the same security person patrolling the pool area every 15 to 30 minutes with his clip board. So you're doing a great job!! Here's my issue. I'm at the pool area with a canned fruit juice. It's off to the side. I look around and see one Caucasian lady with her Gatorade bottle on the table. I see another Caucasian man with a couple water bottles on his table. We have friends at the BBQ area grilling food. The hot dog was done so they pass us ONE hot dog (mustard only) through the fence. My husband takes one bite. IMMEDIATELY, the security guard immediately pounced on us and says no eating in the pool area and no drinks. So we leave, but not before we mention that there are other individuals with drinks at the pool and asked if he was going to ask them to leave. He then back tracks and says no alcoholic drinks. We show him our canned fruit juice and said this was juice. He didn't seem to care. I'm wondering if he just asked us to leave because we didn't "fit in". So the complex should really tell their security people that they need to be consistent with enforcing their rules and policies. Not singling people out because of how they look. If no drinks are allowed in the pool area, you tell EVERYONE not the non-Caucasian couple and their family to leave while the other families are allowed to stay. Also, when we checked in at the front gate to visit our friends, we were never told that when we left, to turn in the half-sheet photo copied paper that allows us to park in the complex. We were told, leave this on the dash board and where we can park. So when we left, we left. Our friends get a phone call at 2:00 AM asking for the permit back. AGAIN, lack of training to your staff there. We were never told, please return the permit. It was not a placard, just a half sheet copied piece of paper that shows where we could park. I would never rent a unit at this complex. The security guards aren't trained properly and have poor customer service skills. They don't enforce the rules and guidelines uniformly and seems to single people out based on their appearance. read more

I lived here for six years, following an unpleasant year at the Makaha Valley Plantation. These are substantial buildings, made of concrete construction, and thus you will not hear your neighbors (above, next door) at all. I really appreciate that. The Plantation is wood construction, and I could practically hear my neighbor snoring. The grounds here are immaculate - so many trees, flowers, peacocks. There is a squad of gardeners who work full time ensuring the grounds are maintained. they do a really nice job. I also find the buildings and common areas, including the pool and BBQ area, to be very well maintained. units are all owned by people (some are rented out by owner) and there is a homeowner association, so people actually care about what the property look like. it isn't a big rental dump where they only care about making money - they want it to be a community and a well-run, clean one. they do take on major improvement projects as needed (the pool was completely re-done a few years back). Security here run a tight ship. You have to stop at a gate to get inside, and if you're visiting they call the apartment to make sure you approve the visitor. I appreciate that and it made me feel very safe. That said, they sometimes do an overzealous job. However, I would rather have an overzealous security force than none at all. If someone is having a loud party late at night, you can call security and they take care of it quickly. If someone isn't maintaining their front porch area, you can call security/management and they take care of it. I think that's fantastic. so yes, i will put up with a little overzealous security rather than a free-for-all. i left because my job in the area ended, but i still have friends who live here and i return to visit whenever i can. highly recommend this property. maybe not the best for a 21 year old who wants to party all the time, but an excellent choice for a more mature person who values peace and quiet, and safety. read more

I came to visit my girlfriend who lives there. This is my second time. I was appalled with the way my girlfriend was treated. In 5 days she was given tickets for MAJOR VIOLATIONS. These included hanging towels to dry off the patio railing (I was guilty because I wasn't aware this was a violation) accused of throwing coffee off her patio (which was not the case, she watered her plants and some water probably dripped over) smoking on her patio between 5:30 and 6 am (we were sleeping) she went to the office to rectify the misunderstanding. And was told that she was lying and she did in fact commit these offences. There is no process in place to dispute or resolution. I understand that rules are there and should be but this is beyond reasonable. She said that you get fined if your tire is on a parking line in the parking lot. There are 500 plus units in this place and they do a good job of the property, but the rules are ridiculous. There is a smoking area of about 100 square feet that is the only place that people can smoke in (I get that having a designated area is necessary) but it opens at sunrise until 9 pm and security chases you out exactly 9 pm. I was also advised that it had been ridden with bed bugs. Needless to say, my friend chose to move on. I couldn't give zero stars so had to do one. read more

Rented an Air B n B unit here. Love that it is out of the way in a less touristy part of the island. Short drive to incredible, unpopulated beaches. Accommodations are nice. Balconies are lovely. Feels safe because of the ferocious security guards. However: PARKING. What a freaking nightmare. We went down to the office first thing on Monday to pay for parking and get a parking pass. They require cash only and a $50 deposit PLUS up front payment for the days you're supposed to be here. I'm confused. Why do you pay a deposit AND the actual charge? And get this. They'll MAIL you your deposit after you leave. Uh. You're going to mail CASH??? Just sounds totally sketchy and makes no sense. It SHOULD be that you pay a deposit, and then when you're checking out and paying the parking fee, they refund the deposit. Simple as that. Also, if I had to live here year round I would want to murder all the peacocks. They wake me up 1-2x a night which isn't a big deal since I'm on vacation, but if I had to deal with this getting up for work the next day? Oh boy. Them peacocks would be dead. ETA: we kind of fussed about the $50 deposit and the office lady said it was a deposit for the hard laminated parking pass we got after paying for parking. She also said we could turn it in early (Friday) when the office was open, go back to visitor parking, and get our $50 back. So we did that. And I changed my review from 2 to 3 Stars. But this place has so many rules I can't really give it more than 3-stars. By default, we parked in the regular parking (instead of guest parking the next lot over, literally five steps away) even though we'd turned in our laminated pass, and this morning we woke up to a reprimand posted on our door because we weren't in visitor parking. ‍ We walked outside at 7:30 am on a Saturday and both lots were deserted. Literally, the rules are just a little excessive and so aggressively enforced. read more

Stayed here for a week or so and found the accommodation to be quite pleasant. It's out of the way though and pain to hang out in Honolulu so if that's what your planning go else where. As some others have mentioned the security here is ridiculous, pretentious and painful. Even know there is an empty car park the procedures are more strict than the military - honestly, get a life. Office staff were rude, Un-accommodating and they're set up was unorganised, and straight from the 80's) - cash only! One of the staff said we would have our accommodation cancelled as we didn't have cash on us to pay for the parking pass when we checked in - seriously, get a life. On the plus side, the surrounding areas are quite nice, close to in-crowded beaches and the towers have a nice pool and bbq set up (so long as you don't break the long list of rules you will be fine to use). It seems like the whole area has gone down hill since 2008. Trashy houses, abandoned resort buildings and unoccupied apartments. I honestly don't see any reason to stay out here.. They don't help when it comes to making arrangements for overnight passes for guest and will ask you a million questions on why you need it when you pay to live here. Don't live here unless its a last resort. Had a security guard try to harass me on multiple occasions. Had to get a restraining order because all the office would do is tell me to deal with it. (Also the general manager is a liar, she attempted telling me there was no possible way to contact the board of directors because I rent here instead of own) Ended up paying off the remainder of my lease balance, and moving out several months early. Very miss represented. Constant noise and screams in the night. Bus backs up at entrance with the beeping on each trip. If you open your windows the smell of trash permeates the room. Too far away from any places to eat. SOOO many homeless in the area which makes any sort of evening walk on the beach dangerous. read more
