They don't even acknowledge that we reached out or applied. When a rental became available with Royal Realty, I immediately called the agent listed for the rental expecting no answer. However, he answered the phone immediately and was very pleasant and helpful! I was shocked! I told him, "Wow, thank you for even answering your phone! Most agents completely ignore my emails and calls." Rodney has consistently communicated with me throughout the viewing and application process. He has been the ONLY agent that has done so throughout our three months of hunting for a rental for our family. Just about when I was going to give up on finding a rental, we met Rodney today in person to view the rental and he was so kind and thorough. He explained every part of the home and even took us around the property to show us where the shared units were located, ones that we were not applying for, but that we would be sharing the space with. He took the time to get to know us as people and made us feel seen and welcomed. Most agents we've seen in person unlock the door and just tell us, "Okay you can go look inside" and never really talk to us or show us around. He was very transparent about the application process and the owners needing time to decide if they would be willing to accept our multiple pets. I told Rodney regardless of the outcome, I truly appreciated his timely and consistent communication with us and meeting him today. We are hopeful that the owners will accept our family and multiple pets, but even if not, our experience with Rodney makes us want to find a rental with this company since we know they will take care of us and our needs. Renter Beware: Avoid This Property Management Company…read more I rented through this agency for over 4 years, always paid on time, and left the apartment in better condition than when I moved in. Despite this, they withheld most my security deposit and tried to charge me for furniture that was never even provided in the unit. This wasn't an isolated incident of poor service -- I had requested replacement curtains after mine fell apart, and it took the agency over a year to follow through. Communication was consistently unresponsive and unprofessional throughout my tenancy. What makes this worse is that I now own a rental property myself. Having seen how this company treats tenants, I would never use them -- not as a renter, and not as an owner looking for a property management company. They seem far more interested in squeezing every dollar from deposits than treating good tenants fairly. If you're considering renting from this agency, think twice. And if you're a property owner considering hiring them to manage your property, look elsewhere.

From the very first walkthrough, I suspected there was mold in the closets. I immediately brought it to the attention of the agent, Frances Lau, who insisted there was no mold present. Despite my concerns, on the initial inspection sheet, we noted a mold-like substance in both closets. As time went on, my family and I began experiencing health issues, and we spent thousands of dollars at doctors' offices and even took our dog to the vet, trying to figure out what was going wrong. We then experienced a massive leak in the apartment, which led to the ceiling being cut open and, to our shock, revealed large amounts of mold that had been hidden behind the drywall. Despite this alarming discovery, Frances Lau and SC Realty refused to take our concerns seriously. We requested that the unit be tested for mold multiple times (five times to be exact), but each time we were ignored. After no response, we paid out of pocket for a full mold inspection, and the results were horrifying--every single room tested positive for high levels of black mold. At this point, my family was already feeling the health effects of prolonged exposure to toxic mold. To protect our health, we made the decision to move out as soon as possible. However, even after we left, Frances continued to ignore our attempts to reach her. We had to escalate the issue to her boss at SC Realty, but we were still met with indifference. SC Realty then forced us to sign away any legal claims in exchange for allowing us to break the lease early without them keeping our security deposit, even though they had previously threatened to withhold it. It's clear to me that SC Realty is well aware they are renting out unsafe, uninhabitable units. To make matters worse, they raised the rent by $250 and began showing the unit to new potential tenants less than a month after we moved out. If you value the health and safety of your family, I urge you not to rent from SC Realty. This company knowingly rents out mold-infested units and will do everything in their power to avoid taking responsibility. Frances Lau, in particular, was the worst agent I've ever encountered. After speaking with other agents at SC Realty, I can confidently say I have nothing positive to say about this company. They are dishonest, negligent, and completely unconcerned with tenant safety. The sad reality is that the State of Hawaii does little to protect renters in situations like this, leaving companies like SC Realty to continue engaging in this behavior unchecked. I have documentation and test results that prove the apartment was infested with black mold. Please, do your due diligence and avoid this company at all costs.

They told me I was fortunate since I had two months left of my rent. Knowing this I could have stayed at property but since we were already moved out there was nothing I could do but accept the outcome. But after taking with Sean and Raullen, I was able to take the first steps and felt like I was finally heading in the right direction. With another tenant who also used the garbage cans, where we even helped our senior lower unit tenant dump her garbage the day we moved out, And when we moved in the cans were full and we had to request it to be removed. We have emails showing the cans were full and removed with rental company. Returning property as it was found, no damage done to the property. Normal wear and tear on the invoice and some are not even real. Duck tape so rodents don't go in the house.. wear and tear! And all health issues gone since moving out Security deposit can not be deducted for no damage and just wear and tear, as seen on invoice to the property. The towel bar was like 40 years old! I have the entire packet minus one document. I was told they did not have that addenda (Property Condition Report) in their files. Because too many years have gone by and they do not keep documents for that long. What??? How can a RE company not keep records? It has only been 4 years. Mr. Davis then proceeded to tell me I lost the property condition report. Okay, Mr. Davis please send me a copy, from your records, to complete my files as I originally requested. Here is the real kicker...the residential rental agreement packet with all the addenda was reviewed and signed off by Mr. Doug Davis. Such a disappointment...

Although I did not sell the property, the attitude and complimentary information helped me feel good about this one decision for now and will consider them if I plan on doing any future real estate plans. They are a husband and wife company with a fellow team of realtors. The reason I first picked them was that I noticed a lot of their property for sale signs where I go and what improvements they did to those properties. I knew they had experience in selling residential houses which was my need.
