    "Club sandwich" + fries
    Kevin L.

Pretty much the worst BLT we ever had. My wife had a BLT and I had a club sandwich which is pretty much a BLT with chicken for them. The taste wasn't good. I regret eating there. The staff was nice but that's pretty much all. The place is really whatever and they have overflowing trash everywhere and dirty tables.

The veranda anyone can eat here!

Really good food, limited options this side of the island, go for a walk and stop and get a breakfast burrito or sandwich also good for lunch, not a fan of the fries, however very good! It is not a restaurant, hence the name grill!

There was MAYBE 3 fries in here that were edible.

The people here DO NOT CARE. Seems to be the trend here if you aren't local. Ordered food and wasn't aware that we had an option for fries (just told it comes with chips, so we assumed they were out of fries). We saw 2 orders before us with fries....ok no prob. We ordered fries after food was done and were very nice. What we got was 2 boxes of what looked like the bottom of every fry bag they had there. So gross. The rest of food fell in line with most of the area....bad but beats cooking at home. Save your money, buy groceries then splurge on Barracuda or Ama for dinner options..... nothing else we have had here (specifically Hanalei/princeville for dinner) is worth it. Been here 6 months, so we have tried almost all places.

Located behind the pro shop of the Makai Golf Club lies a little snack shack that serves decent food. The course is owned by the St. Regis so you can expect solid food in this unpretentious outside lanai. I think it's an option if you are staying in one of the nearby condos or timeshares in the Princeville area as there aren't a lot of places to choose from within the confines of Princeville. The ladies working the counter are great. I docked a star because they used to have great musubi. It was a double decker but alas no more.

Came here on a whim for lunch and was surprised how delicious both of our sandwiches were!!!! I got the club and my boyfriend got the French dip. Club is massive and could easily be split for a lighter lunch. The French dip was amazing!!! I tried a bit of his French dip was jealous the rest of the meal. We will definitely be back before our trip is over!

Bangin' no bun burger. Looks almost too good to eat. . .

Today marks my third visit to the Makai Grill and it's been solid each time. I'm a low-carber and they are always accommodating and more than happy to throw something together to meet my dietary restrictions. Nice staff, quick service, great experience all around.

Located at the golf course. Pretty expensive for average snack bar food. It is easily accessible in Princeville though.

The view is hard to beat, with beautiful scenery overlooking Hanalei Bay and mountains, and the atmosphere is always fun and relaxed. The beer was ice cold, the happy hour is a great value, and the live music adds to the experience. One thing to be aware of is that parking can be a challenge. It seems like HBR gets more crowded every year, and finding a spot is definitely harder than it used to be. It's worth the effort, but give yourself a little extra time. The valet can get overwhelmed frequently. The waitstaff was fantastic, especially with our baby. Everyone was friendly, welcoming, and accommodating, which we really appreciated. The highlight of this particular meal was the short rib special. It was honestly one of the best things I've eaten on the island. Our server recommended it, and I'm so glad he did. Before serving it, he gave a full presentation describing the dish almost like a work of art, explaining how the colors on the plate represented the ʻāina, the lava, the ocean, and other elements of Kauai. I wish I could remember all of it because it was such a thoughtful and memorable explanation. The dish itself absolutely lived up to the presentation, tender, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. Happy Talk continues to be a place we look forward to visiting every trip. Great views, cold drinks, excellent service, and a memorable dining experience. We'll be back again next year.

Unfortunately, we don't eat the restaurant setting, so this is a 2 star experience instead. Came in with a group of 4, and between all of us we ordered: 1.) Coconut Shrimp 2.) Homemade Mac-Nut Hummus 3.) Fried Calamari N' Shrimp 4.) Happy Talk Loco-Moco 5.) Happy Talk Smash Burger 6.) Volcano Poke I only got to try #'s 1-4, and from those, only the hummus was any good. Unfortunately, the loco-moco was bland. There was no seasoning, and there was no flavor. My party seemed to really enjoy the burger and that was probably the best food from what we ordered. Overall, I wasn't happy with the meal and would give this a 2/5

I ordered the Teriyaki Burger with fries and a Lava Flow, and both really hit the spot. The burger had a great sweet-and-savory balance from the teriyaki glaze, pineapple, slaw, and shoyu mayo. It was messy in the best way, with plenty of flavor, and the fries were a solid side. The Lava Flow was also a highlight: tropical, creamy, fruity, and very photogenic. It felt like the perfect vacation drink. Overall, Tiki Iniki is a good pick if you want a casual meal, fun drinks, and a lively tiki-bar vibe. I'd definitely recommend stopping in for a Lava Flow and a burger.

The worst mai tai I have ever had. My god. Ordered the "top shelf" Mai tai, and it was absolutely brutal. First, it wasn't shaken OR stirred. What does this mean? It was served one ingredient on top of the next, room temperature, and tasted like a hot mess. We actually felt sick from it. The amount of syrup this bartender used was crazy. She's either not tasting her drinks, or has just fried her taste buds doing god knows what over the years. Please, for your customer's sake, train the bartenders.

We found it to be much busier than before (reservations at a joint like this?), and that it had expanded to the outside. During our prior visit we sat at the front porch table for two next to the front door (recognizable from a scene in the George Clooney movie "The Descendants"), but this time were were placed in a corner table just inside, which we found to be a little stuffy when a breeze wasn't blowing. As to the food, pizzas are a big part of their menu but their pizza oven wasn't working so those were off the table, both literally and figuratively. The other options were a mix of pub grub and seafood-focused items. We were both in a burger mood so we each ordered the Nui Burger with fries. It's a very busy burger with all of the toppings, some of which I declined. One of the toppings that I kept was an onion ring, which was pathetically small and badly overcooked. The burger patty itself was meh, but I'm kind of a snob about that because my homemade burgers are better than most restaurants. On the side I got their Tsunami Fries -- regular fries with a spicy aioli and furikake -- which were very enjoyable. The service was not what we would have liked. Although our server was friendly, it took too long for our food to arrive. Worse, when I ordered a second beer it never came before we finished our meal, so I canceled the request. This place is situated right on the main road in a high foot traffic area, so that needs to improve. Final verdict -- a fun and iconic place to visit at least once, but not what it used to be.
