    "Club sandwich" + fries
    Kevin L.

Pretty much the worst BLT we ever had. My wife had a BLT and I had a club sandwich which is pretty much a BLT with chicken for them. The taste wasn't good. I regret eating there. The staff was nice but that's pretty much all. The place is really whatever and they have overflowing trash everywhere and dirty tables.

The veranda anyone can eat here!

Really good food, limited options this side of the island, go for a walk and stop and get a breakfast burrito or sandwich also good for lunch, not a fan of the fries, however very good! It is not a restaurant, hence the name grill!

There was MAYBE 3 fries in here that were edible.

The people here DO NOT CARE. Seems to be the trend here if you aren't local. Ordered food and wasn't aware that we had an option for fries (just told it comes with chips, so we assumed they were out of fries). We saw 2 orders before us with fries....ok no prob. We ordered fries after food was done and were very nice. What we got was 2 boxes of what looked like the bottom of every fry bag they had there. So gross. The rest of food fell in line with most of the area....bad but beats cooking at home. Save your money, buy groceries then splurge on Barracuda or Ama for dinner options..... nothing else we have had here (specifically Hanalei/princeville for dinner) is worth it. Been here 6 months, so we have tried almost all places.

Located behind the pro shop of the Makai Golf Club lies a little snack shack that serves decent food. The course is owned by the St. Regis so you can expect solid food in this unpretentious outside lanai. I think it's an option if you are staying in one of the nearby condos or timeshares in the Princeville area as there aren't a lot of places to choose from within the confines of Princeville. The ladies working the counter are great. I docked a star because they used to have great musubi. It was a double decker but alas no more.

Came here on a whim for lunch and was surprised how delicious both of our sandwiches were!!!! I got the club and my boyfriend got the French dip. Club is massive and could easily be split for a lighter lunch. The French dip was amazing!!! I tried a bit of his French dip was jealous the rest of the meal. We will definitely be back before our trip is over!

Bangin' no bun burger. Looks almost too good to eat. . .

Today marks my third visit to the Makai Grill and it's been solid each time. I'm a low-carber and they are always accommodating and more than happy to throw something together to meet my dietary restrictions. Nice staff, quick service, great experience all around.

Located at the golf course. Pretty expensive for average snack bar food. It is easily accessible in Princeville though.

The turkey panini and turkey wrap were both delicious. Enjoyed eating outside. Did not enjoy the weed eater during lunch.

Every time I'm there, they manage to stay calm, composed, and professional even when things get busy, while still making every guest feel welcomed and taken care of. Aleah, Hiílanií, Branden, and Kyle each bring such a warm, inviting personality to the experience. They're attentive without being overbearing, genuinely friendly, and incredibly knowledgeable. You can tell they care about creating a great experience, not just serving a drink. Their ability to maintain that level of hospitality under pressure is impressive and really sets them apart. They make Sandbox feel relaxed, welcoming, and special. A fantastic team and a true reflection of the hospitality you hope for at 1 Hotel Hanalei. Highly recommend!

We put in our drink order (their version of a Paloma (5/5) and their coconut drink special (delicious), but she forgot to pick them up from the bar so we had already finished our appetizers (hummus and vegetables platter (3/5) and French Fries (5/5 - awesome) before our drinks arrived. For the mains, we tried the North Shore Pizza (garlic shrimp pizza 5/5 - great), Kale Cesar Salad (4.5/5 - fresh but plain) and the Chopped Harvest Salad (4.5/5 - but you have to like the strong vinegar taste). Again, she forgot to bring the Chopped Harvest Salad until everyone else was done with their meal. We actually had to just take it home. Maybe you get better service if you are a guest of the hotel but the food and location were quite good. We went at sunset which is beautiful. There was also a fire dancer who stopped by. Overall mixed experience. Not sure I would come back.

The vibe was great, not too loud not too quiet with live music and a great view of the Kauai mountains! Highlights of the food were crispy rice, ahi roll, and the black sesame mochi muffin for dessert. If we went back I would get like five orders of the black sesame mochi muffin. The only complaint I have is that the hostess was very rude when we checked in. We checked in with her a little early before our reservation and she told us we had to wait until our reservation time which was fine but she was very rude in tone and words and immediately after another host came up to tell us they could actually seat us immediately. It was a bit of a salty first impression so that's why I docked a star but everything else made up for it after. She was a young blonde with a ponytail so she could be the same person I saw another review mention but I'm not positive. Other than that, the staff and food was amazing! Additionally, the dj/live music was great! Awesome music taste.

This place fills up fast so you def. need a rezzie. They have live music every night - and the music was quite good. We sat at the bar and had a few drinks - the first one I had was my favorite (la niebla) and the second one was OK (afterglow). Both were tequila drinks - I felt the second one was too strong and the flavor was not coming through as I expected. My hubby got a beer on draft and of course that was refreshing. He also got the la niebla and really enjoyed that as well. They have a food menu that can be ordered at the bar but we were only there for drinks. Def. recommend checking place out - the combo of the views, drinks, and music will be a night to remember. Don't forget to bring cash so you can tip your musician.

I ordered the Teriyaki Burger with fries and a Lava Flow, and both really hit the spot. The burger had a great sweet-and-savory balance from the teriyaki glaze, pineapple, slaw, and shoyu mayo. We also loved the atmosphere. The restaurant is open and airy, with plenty of fresh air, creating a relaxed island vibe. We started with several small plates. The beet salad was fresh, beautifully prepared, and large enough to share. The highlight of the appetizers, however, was the local Kauai prawns. They were perfectly cooked and served sizzling in an iron skillet with a rich, lemon-butter sauce that was absolutely delicious. Definitely a must-order! For our entrées, we had the Catch of the Day and the Chicken Marsala. The Catch of the Day was outstanding--fresh, expertly prepared, and easily the star of the meal. The Chicken Marsala was flavorful and well-cooked, though it was just a little saltier than I personally prefer. Overall, the food quality was great, the service was friendly and attentive, and the entire dining experience was outstanding. If you're visiting Kauai, don't miss the Catch of the Day--it was exceptional! We highly recommend The Bistro for delicious food, great service, and a welcoming atmosphere.
