I have 3 daughters, and 3 months ago only one of them could swim at all. I was really nervous about taking my kids near water because I was constantly anxious about them drowning. When I met Miss Jean three months ago, I told her my summer goal was to have each of my daughters swimming - even (especially) the 3 year old! Three months and a total of 36 lessons later, all three girls are full swimmers who are completely comfortable and confident in the water by themselves. In fact, it only took Miss Jean two months to get them there! Miss Jean is magic with kids. She has so many years of experience, she really just gets kids and swimming. She knows when to push them and when not to. She knows how to sell swimming to them. She knows all the barriers and how to ease her students through them. She connects crazy well with each child. She has oodles of toys with spiffy names (e.g., the "marshmallow stick," the "treasure chest") that the kids just love. I watched her interact with not just my kids, but many other children in countless lessons throughout the summer. Her superpowers are: (1) Patience - like, a ton ton of patience; and (2) Understanding each child individually, and custom-tailoring her approach to each one. I watched her work with children with developmental disabilities, epilepsy, super young children, and older teenagers with appropriate differentiation and so much love. PLUS PLUS she was super flexible about scheduling all summer. She uses a great system of Google-calendar invites. You can cancel anytime up until right before the lesson with no penalty. Between my 3 daughters' other summer camps, family trips, etc. etc. I needed to constantly revise our schedule, and she was a total trooper about it. You schedule when you want, you change the schedule when you want, and you only pay for lessons you attend. Wow. So: She is the swim-whisperer. All her students + families think so, and they are probably not posting about it on yelp for the same reason I didn't want to. ;)

You have to take a test to go on the 6 ft side. The other side is 3.5 ft (I think) Very hard plastic loungers and about 20 of them. Then about 30 hard plastic chairs. Suggestion to add overhead awnings and bring back the concession. You can bring outside food, small cooler/softside type. Small grass and concrete areas. I did see someone have one camper chair but no personal umbrella. Plenty ifrm

This place was so much fun for young kids…read more There is a wading pool area with splash structures, no deeper than 1-2 feet. Additionally, there is a separate pool with diving boards and a deep end, plus an area thats 3-4 deep. On a hot August day, an ice cream guy came by the fence and after a few kids caught on, I'm pretty sure they sold something to every single family there. They are strict about what floaties are allowed in. Our puddle jumpers were ok, but they did ask to hold them so they could check they are approved. Cost was $8 per adult, with kids free. There is tons of grass to sit in, and lawn chairs with shading. The locker rooms are nice, but it's only a changing area and bathrooms inside. The shower is only outside, so it forces you to take a quick rinse in your bathing suit.

We're continuing because it's building both skill and self esteem for them. Our 5 year old in particular is shy and tends to quit trying if he feels challenged, having this opportunity to build a skill he feels competent in is really valuable for him at this age. My son's teacher, Dakota, made my son feel very comfortable and safe in the pool and got him to do things I never thought he would do - not just put his face in the water but fully submerge his head and float on his back, among many other new skills. Every week he would learn something new. But most of all, my son was so proud of himself after every lesson. And Mom and dad are proud, too! We will definitely be signing up for lessons again next summer, and we will be signing our youngest up for lessons once he is 3!

Original review: British Swim School's Vallejo location, run by Cheronda A. and team, advertise their program as being able to "instilling water survival skills that save lives". After 17 months (64 lessons) and $2500 down the drain, we pulled our son from this program due to it being more akin to an aquatic day care (with you as the parent remaining present) than a swim program. The people at the school are nice enough interpersonally, but these are the red flags to notice: - After an initial few weeks you stop getting feedback, which when given is always verbally and never through skill progress item in the British Swim School's app. If you challenge the owner (Cheronda A.) on this, you will be gaslighted in there being more feedback than there actually is, and that it is their policy to only give verbal feedback versus using the app for what it is intended. - You'll notice your child will have many different instructors throughout lessons, with great variety as seniority as instructors. - You're paying about $40 for a 30min session, but on avg. there are 4 kids per classes, meaning even if you round up that's $40 for 10 minutes of instruction, as in the 64 "lessons" we paid for equates to having paid $2500 for less than 11 hours of instruction. - The lessons are utterly simple snd repetitive, and not lessons at all, the same 4 simple things are just endlessly repeated without any coaching or guidance from the instructors towards the child as to what to do different or how to improve. - The final straw, when you confront them on the inadequacies listed above, they will a) gaslight you in terms of feedback cycles, but much much worse, b) blame the lack of results on your child. In summary, this school will happily take your money for providing very little, and in terms of practical outcomes are operating in opposition of their mission statement.
