My dad was helping me find a company to move into my first home, and from the moment he called them and spoke to Erin at Make Your Move's office, he knew this was the company that I should use. The team communicated with me over email and provided a pre-move questionnaire along with an initial estimate. That initial estimate was literally half of what another highly-rated company gave me (and it didn't include a bunch of "gotcha" fees like a $75 fuel surcharge and $90 for wrapping up some items). Steve called me a few hours before expected to let me know that their morning move had some complications, and that they'd be a little bit later than anticipated. He also gave me another call to let me know when they were on their way -- I greatly appreciated the communication! Upon arrival, Steve and Sean walked through my house with me so I could show them what was staying in the house and what I would need moved. They confirmed the estimate, and got to work immediately. It was over 100 in the miserable Sacramento County heat, yet they powered through it with their great senses of humor and outgoing personalities. They were able to safely and securely fill the 26 foot truck within two hours. Upon arriving at my new house, we walked through so that we could get a common terminology for which rooms were which so I could direct where the furniture would go. They were able to unload everything in under 90 minutes, even with the difficulty of getting a couch around a tight corner -- without making any scuff marks like they were concerned might come up. From start to finish, it was the four hours that they estimated, and before they left, they had me talk to their boss on the phone to make sure I was satisfied. 12/22/2024 This project did not go well AT ALL. I spoke with the owner Kevin and his office personnel to confirm my move. During my initial call with Kevin, I informed him that I rented a track and was looking for laborers. After some discussion, Kevin indicated it would be cheaper to use his truck at a flat rate of $80. I wasn't convinced of that but went along with his opinion, being the moving expert. Turns out, it would have been cheaper for me to rent a truck and pay $40. The day before the move the landlord informed me that I wouldn't be able to obtain the key until 1p. I told her I would have to check with the movers to see if they could push the move from morning to afternoon. I was fortunate in this instance as their afternoon move had been canceled. At that same time, Kevin and I agreed to 3 movers. Kevin was made aware that 85% of the items to be moved were already in the garage. The remaining 15% was in the 3rd floor apartment (King bed, Full Bed, Changing table, DR Table, 2 TVs, Small Desk, 2 long Boards). I had also scheduled a separate pickup from a donation company, which was set to occur the morning of Dec 4. I received a text from them around 10a indicating they could not arrive until 2p. At that point, they would be in the way of Kevin's movers. So I asked Kevin if he had the manpower and time to load and dropoff the donated items to Habitat-Sacramento. I informed Kevin the dropoff needed to occur the same day-_Wednesday and if he couldn't fit it in I would stick with the existing company. Kevin assured me he could make it work so I canceled the donation movers. I asked him if he could have his movers arrive sooner since I was adding the second dropoff. He said he would try but wasn't sure he could make it happen. I didn't receive an update that they could arrive sooner so I assumed they would be there at 1. Unfortunately, they didn't arrive until 1:40p--40 minutes late and only two movers showed up. This caused me great concern because I wasn't sure they would be able to load and unload my items and make it to Habitat by 4. I expressed this concern to Kevin and he said they would try. It became clear they weren't going to make the Habitat dropoff at which time I expressed my disappointment to Kevin. Kevin indicated he would store the items and drop them off another day. I reminded him that the donation needed to be made the same day and that if he couldn't deliver them he should have informed me so I could stick with the original company. Even if they were going to be late. Even with the added donated items, this was a job that should have taken no longer than 3 hours from start to finish; with three movers. But that's not what happened. The job ended up taking 5hrs, 40mins. Costing me nearly twice as much. In addition to the $80 I paid for the truck when I could have paid less by renting a truck myself. And I still have to pay for Habitat to return and pick up the items. To say I am disappointed is an understatement. The words I would use to describe my disgust are not professional, so I'll keep them to myself. read more

2 men, $145/hr for 3 hours was booked a month ahead. 2 days before the moving day, was told the move would take 3 men and one of their reasons was they have another move right after my move (They don't want to miss this additional move on the same day) and looked like I paid extra for them to accommodate their needs. 4 years ago, the move with same amount furniture & items took 3 hrs with 2 men, 14 miles away (single story to two story home) For this move, it took 4 hours with 3 men, 7 miles away (two story to single story home) even though washer/ dryer were added since previous move. It cost me twice much what I paid for previous move. Besides, a number of mishandled/broken items caused me of considerable pains to fix and resolve. The good thing was that they showed up 15 min earlier than scheduled time for the move. read more

ZERO Stars for this business. I booked a move, including packing, for this afternoon. Was told 1:30pm approximately, depending on how long their job in the morning would take. Fine. Was told around noon that it would be closer to 2:30. OK, I'll wait. This move HAS to happen so my son and 17-month-old granddaughter don't return from their trip to an empty new home. I sat until 3pm before calling to get an update and was told it would be 4:30. Ok. I'll wait some more. 4:55 and the crew FINALLY arrives, walks in and says "wait, are we supposed to pack?" Yes, that is what I arranged. They called "the boss" Kevin the owner, who wanted to talk to me and proceeded to tell me MULTIPLE times to call someone else (the office I guess?) because they didn't know they were supposed to pack. I suggested that one member of the crew go get packing materials while the other two started in on the things that didn't have to be packed/wrapped, but Kevin told them to leave. I spoke with Erin, who apologized and admitted that she had booked the move incorrectly, not including the need to pack. She said she would see if they could do it tomorrow or Friday. Fine. It still needs to be done, I understand mistakes being made, I get that their morning job ran very long. BUT I STILL NEED THE MOVE TO HAPPEN. Then I get a text from Kevin informing me that "we unfortunately are not able to serve you we have a very high professional standard for our crew and work ethic and unfortunately also that applies to the way that we are treated . if we are belittled in anyway we do decline service. I'm sorry but anger is some thing that we avoid and simply do not participate in" I did not express anger to any of them. I expressed frustration. What does Kevin expect when his business puts a customer in this situation? Apparently their mission "to provide unequivocally the most positive moving experience we will show our appreciation in every way possible and over deliver in service and value" is meaningless. Complete lies after lies. I own an investment and management business with 34 properties. I know how things work and don't work. Call and text logs can prove this. What a disaster of a business. These men made us feel uncomfortable and sketched out by their behavior. No one would blatantly lie and say they only have so and so furniture then drop an entire apartment on you as you walk in. Your lack of professionalism in your response is case in point. Matching the lack of professionalism we experienced that day. Make your move Folsom just got done moving my mother's items on7/24 from Tahoe to the Pocket area. They were very gentle and careful with all my mom's furniture. Several pieces of furniture are old and fragile. The movers wrapped all pieces several times in bubble wrap and taped real tight. They also have high grade moving equipment. When they moved the piano it was a smooth transition. The china cabinet was impressive. The cabinet has very heavy glass that is difficult to handle. It was put together very quickly with care. What should have been a five hour job turned into a fourteen hour job. I have never seen such slow movers. They need to learn to use a loading ramp. I told them in advance that I needed pictures packed going to storage. They did not bring any packing for the pictures and just stacked them up, completely destroying one of my favorite pictures. When I confronted the owner I was told "It would have cost me more to have them pack it than the damaged cost me" That is just wrong. If you value your property find another moving company. I just got a threatening recorded message on my voicemail for leaving a bad review. The measure of a company is not how they act when things go right but how they act when things go wrong. I called and spoke to Kevin (the owner) to book two guys for our move. He assured me that he himself would be one of the movers (as I had shared that the last time we moved the movers were not strong enough to do some of the heavy lifting). After I booked him, my husband suggested I go on Yelp and look up his reviews (even though I had seen good reviews in other places). Two reviews stuck in my mind which were disconcerting; one, the workers were slow and since they got paid by the hour, they couldn't recommend them. The second review, Make Your Move Folsom never showed up. I did see that Kevin responded to both reviews, the first he said, they should have hired a crew of three (not two). The second response seemed like a poor excuse. So, I was worried. It was too late to book someone else; everyone else was booked. What to do? I decided to call Kevin back up -- I booked three guys -- and asked for confirmation. Confirmation was given but I was informed that an 8% sales tax would be added. When I questioned it, he said that he had to pay his workers for travel time. We're not sure that a sales tax on labor is allowed. We could not find anything to suggest it is (as no products were being sold and we packed everything ourselves). I had no options at this time, so I agreed to pay $135 an hour for a three man crew plus 8% tax (with a minimum of two hours). The result, no one showed up at 10 am. I never heard from Kevin until 1:30 p.m. with some long-winded excuse. Moving is highly stressful; I cannot recommend this company. read more

Very disappointed...I used them about a year and a half ago and wrote a fabulous review. When I sold my house, they were the only moving company I called as I'm loyal. l. I'm a bit hesitant to give them a bad review based on some of the responses the owner gave to negative reviews, but here goes. It was much more expensive than I realized it would be, however not going to blame them. It was further than my last one and I asked them to wrap up all of my artwork. I'd say my basic complaint is the fact that every single box was labeled with what the contents were and the room it was supposed to go in. By the time they arrived (after 5), I was so exhausted I stopped paying attention thinking they would read where they went, but they didn't..OK.. maybe my fault again for not paying attention. When Kevin wanted to know was I happy, I didn't want to get into it...However, when he asked me to give his guys $100 tip each, I thought that was inappropriate as I gave them a good tip last time.. Who does that? Last but not least.. I called today to ask him to ask the team if they found a couple of bookshelves that were missing.. After a few minutes of discussion, he told me that people usually find missing items.. NO, I've been looking since Tuesday and they're gone. I was very impressed with the crew and their fast pace. Prices are fair, and the guys worked very hard. They filled every inch of the truck to make sure we could move across town in one trip. The only hiccup we had was that they didn't have the proper Allen wrench size to take off the fridge handles to get out/in the door. After a little digging through a couple boxes, we found one of mine. One thing that was extra nice, was how kind and playful they were with my kids (5 and 2 yrs old). They didn't seem annoyed when my kids were watching them work, and they had some fun letting the kids "move" some of the stuff up the ramp with them. Moving is stressful for parents anyway, but these guys did great. That being said, the only criticism I have, was that at the end of the day, they lit various "smokes" as they entered their car, still in front of my house. I personally don't care, but my kids were still out front playing on the Uhaul ramp and I had to explain what they were doing to my 5yr old. I called and spoke to Kevin and coordinated between three different parties between the mover and the pick up and delivery friends that were helping me. Kevin was super polite and scheduled his crew with a day's notice. The crew were even better! I don't know Carlos, but he showed up and was courteous and efficient. Part of the job was to re-organize a stuffed storage shed. The shed contents were packed better than I had left it. I used Make Your Move Folsom for a move in July 2018. I would not recommend this company based on my single experience with them. In fact, I had a two-part move planned, but I did not hire them for the second part of the move. When I called, I was told the pricing is based on an hourly rate. I asked MYMF about the number of movers needed to move my house. I invited them to come see the move. But since they charge an hourly rate, they did not come view my house, instead they sent 3 movers. The 3 movers arrived on-time with a rented U-Haul Truck. They proceeded to move our things into a large storage locker that I had rented. They completed about three-quarters of the move in 10 hours. The guys worked hard and they seemed diligent. However, I was very disappointed that they did not complete the move. It could be that they were not effiicent. Or it could be that the company did not recommend enough labor. But the fact is that I had to rent my own truck the next day, and complete the move. I had planned to clean the house the following day. Instead, I spent the full day completing what was not done the day before. I was still packing a few final boxes, but the be clear, we were 95% packed when the guys arrived for the move. I was fine with moving the last few things, but I was moving my BBQs, boxes, patio furniture. I found that the movers did not really do a great job in packing my storage locker. Here is one example: I had standing metal shelving in my garage. In the locker, they did not pack any boxes on the shelving. They were just packed into the space - so they were taking up their full volume, but not containing any boxes. The locker was packed full. So, why not use the shelving in the locker and store boxes on them? Not sure, but instead, I found boxes were stacked floor-to-ceiling. They were stacking boxes 8+ high. The problem was exasperated by the fact that they did not stack the boxes directly on top of each other. They were offset so they were crushing on the base boxes. I had to re-pack much of the locker. As I dug thru the locker, I found numerous boxes crushed from the stacking of the upper boxes. I also found that some of my wood working tools were damaged. I have a good table saw on a rolling platform. For some reason, they had taken the table saw off the base. So when they lifted the table saw, someone clearly lifted it by the outfeed table. This ripped the screws securing the outfeed table to the table saw. I am still not sure why they would take the table saw off the base. It rolls. But I was most disappointed that they stored the tool in the locker after it was damaged and they did not say anything. It was left for me to find. Most disappointing was that they damaged the finish on our kitchen table. It seems that it was not protected well enough on the truck ride. Something hard was scraping back and forth - almost like saw marks as the truck rocked on the ride. It scraped the finish to the bare wood. The table is a pass-down from our family, so it is a sentimental piece. Maybe they did not see it, but it was pretty obvious. Again, it was left for us to find. Now I will say that I thought the guys worked hard. And I tipped them well. And I complimented them to their boss. I also did not call MYMF to about the issues that I posted here. I just don't know what they could do about it. I have pictures of the damage- and the locker packing. Lastly, I will also say that I had a billing problem with them. They resolved it. It took some prodding, but they seemed sincere in trying to resolve the issue (there was a double charge on my card). The delay seemed to be the fault of the service that they use to process credit cards- they were not very repsonsive processing credits. The move should have been much easier. In the end, I think that the management team should have pre-viewed the job to send the right resources to complete the job in a single day. I think their guys should be trained better. I hired a cleaning service the following day. Their supervisor came by and inspected the work to make sure it met her standards. MYMF could learn something from her. read more

I had their service a couple of times over the last few years, they are extremely pleasant and trustworthy to deal with. They were agile and completed their work within the time window we had agreed on. I could sense they know what they are doing by the way they work, they packed my furniture and boxes really well in their trucks that it cut-short the number of moves we had to make. Trust me, that saved some money (for me) and some time/effort (for them). I had paid them hourly, the move consumed 10mins over the time window but they were kind enough to chop it off their bill.
