First available appointment is over 21 days away!

This is my third update for MakeSpace. I've been extremely disappointed in the offer that MakeSpace has made to fix our broken items -- just know they only offer $0.60 per pound so good luck for replacing any of your electronics or expensive goods. You'd be doing a disservice to yourself and your valuables if you use MakeSpace. I'm still holding out hope that they will properly compensate us for the actual value of our damaged items, but until then I encourage anyone considering MakeSpace to look elsewhere.

Okay--this is the third update, just to show how ridiculous the company is. I will keep warning everyone about it because MakeSpace not only damaged my things, and wasted a huge amount of my time and energy in dealing with the loss they caused. First of all. The reimbursement team will take forever to issue an reimbursement. It has been more than 30 days after I filed my claim, and I still have not received my money. Second, in the end that they found the table top they lost (my "lost" tabletop is kept in the perfect condition compared to other stuff, bed, bookshelf, and sofa, in my storage, isn't it weird and astonishing and scary?) however, when I tried to ask them to reimburse me for the inconvenience they cost (my family did not have a table to dine and work for a month than we decided to buy a brand new one because of their loss), no one followed up. Third, they also re-located another box of stuff they lost (worth 1000 dollars), and then after they put it back into my account they started charging me another monthly fee for storage. Do I have to pay for their ill intention and incompetence? This company, as I said, is RIDICULOUS and DISHONEST. Nicolette, I'm not sure how to reach you in person. You haven't left any email address. If you are serious about taking care of the claim please direct message me so I can contact you via email. Also, they will take 30 DAYS to process the evaluation of the refund, after damaging my furniture and lost 2000 dollar worth stuff. Their basic insurance policy is completely ridiculous. It's absurd they are paying the same for both damaged and lost items. If this is how they reimburse customers when they lost your furniture and your belongings, don't ever store anything there because this is a company that supports crime and stealing.

Here how they you in real

MakeSpace doing favorite for there own business To rub people thru illegal business They broke my 3 piece furniture and they don't want to be responsible because I let the people know how they do the business! And when you call for estimate, they will give you cheap price and then soon as you sign terms and conditions they will start to charge you more then they gave you first estimate, with a lot off excuses and than when you pay them with your credit card they will save your credit card in their system to keep charge you weather you are agree or not I'll sue them anyway Just be careful people!

As of June 15, earliest option to get my stuff back is July 11

I just signed a lease, went to schedule a delivery for my furniture, and Makespace has no availability to give me my stuff back till nearly a month from now. Nothing about this is more convenient than hiring movers. :( Photo from 6/15/21, no times in June either.

LOST AND BROKEN ITEMS AND OVERCHARGES. THIS SERVICE IS A NIGHTMARE! DO NOT USE. This is not a legitimate service! 1. They BROKE or LOST a bunch of my stuff Half of my glassware broken. A STEEL coffee table ruined. 3 boxes LOST. Asked customer service for service refund, this is their direct quote "as terrible as it has been, we have the three month minimum in place to protect us against short term users who increase the risk of exceptions like the damaged and missing items issues you experienced." Hear that? Users increase their own risk of loss and damages! It's clear it's not their job to protect your belongings but you still have to pay for it. 2. Got unrequested upgrades and surcharges Agent misrepresented space required and instead of communicating this, they just upgraded and charged me more without asking. I wouldn't have sent as many boxes if they didn't set misleading expectations. 2. Bunch of my things broke See pictures. Items carefully wrapped and stored in boxes marked fragile and explicitly communicated when people came for pick up shattered. A console table was completely bent out of shape. 3. Customer service is not responsive Takes a day or two for customer service to actually get back to you on anything. Can never get a hold of people on the phone, i would leave messages, and their call return rate is 50/50. 4. Horrible logistics Couldn't find my stuff for 2 days, then delivered in batches so I had to stay home and reserve elevator in building multiple times. Being an hour late on a 3 hour delivery window, showing up without a COI even though we called the night before to ensure paperwork was in order. Absolute headache coordinating with these guys.

TLDR: Spend the money to get a real moving company and save yourself the frustration and headache. MakeSpace destroyed and stole my most valuable items; I rather would have gotten a real company and spent more money at this point and have all my stuff back. I honestly can't believe this company is still in business and am not convinced it's not a scam to get you to buy their more expensive insurance protection plans. I stored my items with MakeSpace from June 2020 - November 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic requiring me to leave New York for a few months over the summer. The only reason that I really chose to store my stuff with MakeSpace was because of my canopy bed frame. Aside from my mattress, it is the most expensive piece of furniture that I own, and otherwise, I would have just packed my mattress, clothes, and books (everything else I had to store was small) and put them into a storage unit myself. MakeSpace completely destroyed my headboard, and now this bed frame is completely unusable. As if that weren't upsetting and infuriating enough, MakeSpace also lost my smart TV as well, which was the second most valuable item I owned. I have high suspicions that the TV was flat out stolen, as it appears to have never been scanned and stored under my name after MakeSpace took it away from my apartment. I am honestly appalled, as I do not think it is unreasonable for a MOVING company whose service I paid for to not completely destroy and lose my items. I doubt I will get anything in compensation back due to not purchasing one of their more expensive plans, even though this was all a result of their incompetence and negligence. I will definitely be filing a dispute with my credit card company at this point.

We left our stuff stored with MakeSpace for almost year. All the small items were fine, but the bed, the dining table and air conditioning were all ruined. Luckily we were paying extra $15/mo fee for insurance (exactly, your stuff won't be safe by JUST paying the regular monthly payment), and we have been refunded for all of the items, but their refund process is also unreasonably slow. (Still waiting for the last one after a month of sending the claim). Customer support agents were nice, movers were great, but I would NOT pick this company to store anything again, and I would not encourage anyone to use MakeSpace to store big items whatsoever.

dragging mattress on the sidewalk :(

I really wanted to like MakeSpace, but in my experience their service was pretty appalling. If you store with them, I seriously recommend you don't store anything you wouldn't mind losing forever. I stored with them for one year and here are some examples of what I experienced: Many of my items were broken. Please read their terms which clearly state that anything fragile is not covered by their insurance (and fragile includes pretty much everything, even things they sell boxes for). Multiple items lost, some permanently. Multiple times in the last year I requested items be delivered that they could not locate. Repeated overcharges that I had to dispute with them and they were very slow to respond to. Poor treatment of my belongings. I watched them literally drag my mattress down the sidewalk getting it covered in street dirt. I was so shocked I took photos. Being erroneously contacted for having their "bins" when I didn't even have them. This happened so often I'm guessing it is a default that you are basically harassed for. Repeated emails threatening to charge me for bins that I didn't have stressing me out. I wish I could go back in time and do anything else with my belongings. I can't believe I paid them for a year to lose and break my stuff.

    Broke mug.

A lot of my items we're damaged during the storage and transportation process. I will never use this company again. I trust you with my furniture and kitchenware and got back broken and majorly scratched furniture. People are not careful at all. How can you be professional movers when you hire completely inexperienced people? Don't use them. This is also for SF.

If I thought the first delivery from my items from storage was a nightmare with my wood for tire completely cracked in 1/2 and sometimes 3 places , this was even worse. My 19th century gold leaf leaf mirror was completely shattered and wood details were completely torn off the frame. Unsalvageable. Also. Everything had a thick layer of white dust inside the noses and inside the blankets. Appears my belongings were left exposed during some construction. All my Family picture framed, art work and even Advanced degrees were . The damage was so violent . When you see personal affects completely ripped apart with a seemingly intentional desire to cause damage. I need to get some legal advice. This is massive negligence. I've moved 13 times over 37 years in Manhattan and never even had a broken glass. I feel raped...buyer beware!

My today's crew! Excellent service with a smile.
    Latha P.

If not for the absolutely fantastic customer service and incredible efficiency of their field crew, I would have given them 4 stars. It is a great service; your order boxes, they drop off boxes, and pick them up when you have them ready. They wrap and package furniture, mirror etc. Both their phone and field customer service is phenomenal. Very pleasant and efficient. However, why I would have rated them 4 stars is their workflow management software system. I had to call them multiple times for various reasons. 1. Even though I had booked a one bed storage space, they said they couldn't plan their logistics/van to pick up all up in one go on the agreed date. However, I was leaving town the same day they were scheduled to pick and so they flexed and offered two pick up dates. 2. I had ordered packing paper and bubble wrap and paid for them. They didn't get delivered and so I had to call twice and follow up. 3. I ordered two wardrobe boxes and they sent me an email that they cannot deliver them because I was in a dorm. No checking by email or nothing - just that. I had to call and tell them that I did not live in a dorm but an apartment and I needed the wardrobe boxes. 4. The crew had to ask me by phone if my building had an elevator. Why isn't this information available on their order form? Or they are not well-trained to read the form? or the form is not user-friendly just like their website. Which is why I blame their workflow software (both UI and backend process) but not the workers. They were simply awesome. Particularly, a shout-out for Jose and Jonathan who handled the bulk of the furniture load. As a good yelper, I will provide updates in August when I return to the city and will need my stuff back.

    Broken Le Creuset casserole dish

If I could give this place zero stars, I would. I would have been better off using self-storage. Nothing is convenient when things arrive broken. They broke a number of sentimental items of mine (glasses, blender, Le Creuset ceramic) and would only cover up to $150 total, and that is even after I paid for insurance. There is a time limit on how long you have to make a claim about damaged and broken items so you also need to examine your boxes and items right away. When I say broke, I mean shattered into tiny pieces things that there were carefully wrapped with padding. Almost as if boxes were carelessly dropped despite being marked fragile. Very little care or concern for items seemed to be shown in addition to needing to plan at least a week in advance if I wanted to retrieve anything. I am glad I read their max coverage policies limits in advance and did not place any truly valuable items in their care. I warned a friend about my experience and she recently reported her husband's items that were recently delivered from this company were missing and tampered with.

    Barbara J.

DO NOT STORE YOUR FURNITURE HERE. The staff steals and your furniture comes back badly damage, I will be suing this company my furniture went into storage new came out broken, the staff that delivers the furniture steals and the people who works with the claims department covers for them by lying and saying that your items that were missing were never in storage, I made copies of the items that were stored there. This company is the worst and they don't care about your belongings. Do not use this company. I added pictures as well this place needs to be closed down. I have reported them to the better business bureau as well. I will be getting every dime back in small claims court.

We had come from visiting another storage facility that was horrible, and were so pleased to find the location clean, well-lit, well air-conditioned, and with plenty of carts available for loading/unloading (no waiting!). There are several large bays for pulling in vehicles (a real boon in Manhattan), and the security seemed good--each renter has a unique code that allowsthem to access only the floor for their unit. We reserved two units, and a free lock was provided for each. The reservation process was simple and fast, customer service was very accessible both by phone and in-person, and there were employees on-site if any assistance was needed. We moved in at the beginning of August, 2026, and thanks to the fast-moving elevators, we were in and out of there in a jiffy. The unit appeared clean, and we felt confident that our belongings would be safely stored. So far, so good. But the five-star review stops there. Three weeks later, we came with a van crew to move out our belongings, and at first everything seemed fine. But as the crew started to move out our items, they noticed mouse droppings and mouse urine--everywhere. It was only then that we noticed four packets, one in each corner of the unit (same in both units), that were conveniently turned face-down so we couldn't see that they were rodenticide until we turned them over. We had not noticed them during the first visit, perhaps because we were exhausted...or maybe we just assumed they were dessicant to absorb moisture. When we lifted one of our heavy, rolled wool rugs off the floor, there was a long line of urine and mouse droppings underneath, as well distributed in pretty much any floor space that was not occupied by belongings. I approached the manager in the office, who seemed totally unfazed by my report. He asked what unit it was, and when I told him, he said that they have a known problem with mice in that area, due to a specific tenant they are trying to evict. He tried to blame the central booking location, saying that the main reservation center wouldn't have known about the mouse problem, so they assigned us to that area---but I didn't make my reservation through central; I made my reservation directly with the store manager. After unloading and eventually unpacking the belongings at the apartment, we didn't see any visible damage, but clearly the rug (probably both of them, though the other was upright) needs to be cleaned as a precaution. I contacted the manager by phone at that point he said we could file an insurance claim. He never apologized or showed any concern about our experience; he literally smiled as he explained why there was a mouse problem. It is truly outrageous that we were assigned units in an area with a severe, known mouse problem. That the facility put rodenticide packets face-down in the units suggests that they were trying to hide the reality of the situation. The manager's lack of concern was disheartening--his response to just 'fill out a form" (that he didn't have on hand and took a very long time to find) was truly a "not my problem" attitude. Besides being just generally disgusting, mouse droppings carry diseases and their urine can permanently stain items (not to mention the smell). THIS IS NOT OKAY, Cubesmart. Needless to say, our 5-star experience quickly dropped to a 1-star. If the manager had been at least minimally sympathetic and offered some compensation for what happened, I would have felt a little bit better about the experience. But the fact that they knew, assigned the units anyway, and then reacted without concern, just ruined a potentially positive experience. Mice in storage facilities is not universal--we had belongings in different storage facility for 3 years without any issues. The take away: Great facility, if you seal everything you own in plastic before storing and plan to protect yourself from contamination when you remove your belongings from storage. p.s. the rodent packets weren't working, Cubesmart....
