We used CubeSmart on 55th Street in Manhattan to store my son's belongings short-term, while he was between apartments. We had come from visiting another storage facility that was horrible, and were so pleased to find the location clean, well-lit, well air-conditioned, and with plenty of carts available for loading/unloading (no waiting!). There are several large bays for pulling in vehicles (a real boon in Manhattan), and the security seemed good--each renter has a unique code that allowsthem to access only the floor for their unit. We reserved two units, and a free lock was provided for each. The reservation process was simple and fast, customer service was very accessible both by phone and in-person, and there were employees on-site if any assistance was needed. We moved in at the beginning of August, 2026, and thanks to the fast-moving elevators, we were in and out of there in a jiffy. The unit appeared clean, and we felt confident that our belongings would be safely stored. So far, so good. But the five-star review stops there. Three weeks later, we came with a van crew to move out our belongings, and at first everything seemed fine. But as the crew started to move out our items, they noticed mouse droppings and mouse urine--everywhere. It was only then that we noticed four packets, one in each corner of the unit (same in both units), that were conveniently turned face-down so we couldn't see that they were rodenticide until we turned them over. We had not noticed them during the first visit, perhaps because we were exhausted...or maybe we just assumed they were dessicant to absorb moisture. When we lifted one of our heavy, rolled wool rugs off the floor, there was a long line of urine and mouse droppings underneath, as well distributed in pretty much any floor space that was not occupied by belongings. I approached the manager in the office, who seemed totally unfazed by my report. He asked what unit it was, and when I told him, he said that they have a known problem with mice in that area, due to a specific tenant they are trying to evict. He tried to blame the central booking location, saying that the main reservation center wouldn't have known about the mouse problem, so they assigned us to that area---but I didn't make my reservation through central; I made my reservation directly with the store manager. After unloading and eventually unpacking the belongings at the apartment, we didn't see any visible damage, but clearly the rug (probably both of them, though the other was upright) needs to be cleaned as a precaution. I contacted the manager by phone at that point he said we could file an insurance claim. He never apologized or showed any concern about our experience; he literally smiled as he explained why there was a mouse problem. It is truly outrageous that we were assigned units in an area with a severe, known mouse problem. That the facility put rodenticide packets face-down in the units suggests that they were trying to hide the reality of the situation. The manager's lack of concern was disheartening--his response to just 'fill out a form" (that he didn't have on hand and took a very long time to find) was truly a "not my problem" attitude. Besides being just generally disgusting, mouse droppings carry diseases and their urine can permanently stain items (not to mention the smell). THIS IS NOT OKAY, Cubesmart. Needless to say, our 5-star experience quickly dropped to a 1-star. If the manager had been at least minimally sympathetic and offered some compensation for what happened, I would have felt a little bit better about the experience. But the fact that they knew, assigned the units anyway, and then reacted without concern, just ruined a potentially positive experience. Mice in storage facilities is not universal--we had belongings in different storage facility for 3 years without any issues. The take away: Great facility, if you seal everything you own in plastic before storing and plan to protect yourself from contamination when you remove your belongings from storage. p.s. the rodent packets weren't working, Cubesmart.... read more

I stored my belongings there from May 2025 to January 26. I just went to gather my items today and when I opened the door there were rodent feces EVERYWHERE. When I told the manager they needed to do something about the problem he said I could file an insurance claim. Insurance does not cover rat poop all over your stuff. I only have 1 issue with Cubesmart - COST INCREASES - my latest monthly price increase was 24% from $720 to $894. Inflation is currently 3% not 24%. I fully agree with this review below. In my case the unit price has gone up from $125 to $220 with no end in sight. Like MTA, CubeSmart is building these draconian price increases in their business model. This business is criminal. You agree to a price when you move your stuff in they say it's only a one month agreement. Once you move your stuff into the storage unit they can then jack up the price of the unit to whatever they want as long as they give you a 30 day notice. So they basically tell you yes that was the price we charge but we found out other companies are charging more so here's a letter to inform you now that you're using one of our units we raising the price on you by almost an extra $20 a month and you have to move your stuff out of you don't want to pay the new price. Totally a legally way to steal. This company is criminal. Once you sign an agreement on what to pay monthly they shouldn't be able to just say I've changed my mind what I'm charging you so either pay is more or move your stuff out. I got this unit when it was great value storage. They buy it out and then decided my rate is to low and make you get their mandatory unit insurance charging you even more. Cubesmart has found a way to legally steal from the clients and they should be arrested for stealing. read more

so disappointed in this company. I have kept my personal belongings in my storage unit for several years under a different ownership. Cube smart took over, expanded the location and raised the prices. To only neglect the "temperature controlled environment since Aug 2022" or possibly longer. August was when I noticed it wasn't regulated properly. I inform the office and they seemed to have no knowledge. I went back to empty the unit this past week and it was colder inside than the 30 degrees outside. Spoke with employee that informed me corporate is aware of this situation and have chosen to do nothing about it. it has gone from extreme temperatures inside the storage facility with no regard to the items being stored inside. Warning: I began renting a storage space at CubeSmart--79-40 Cooper Ave Flushing, NY 11385--2 months ago they have raised my storage fee by 20%! The fee that I paid for the first two months is still offered on their website, so they are not increasing their rates but have done a bait-and-switch to lure customers, which is an unscrupulous business practice, not to mention that a 20% increase is exorbitant. Upon further inspection, there was a crappy patch job done in the ceiling and it looks like maybe a pipe had leaked above our unit and urine ended up draining into our unit. This company needs to be reported to the Better Business Bureau for predatory business practice, misleading sales and services, and the only hostile customer service I've experienced at any business, anywhere in my lifetime outside of cellular phone providers back in pre-regulated 90s. There is no regulation (thanks Albany/ NYC) and this needs to change. Once you're moved into a unit, they will raise your rent every 5 months by 35%. If your credit card changes or for any other reason you are 5 days late for a payment you are charged a $35-45 late fee. To make the missed payment you will have to pay an additional service fee unless you go to pay in person. If you create an account online you will need to re-register every 6 months. If you miss two payments they lock you out and put your unit on auction. To unlock your unit you have to pay the payment services fee, the $35/ month late fee, PLUS an additional $100-$300 release fee. They are literally making it harder for customers to make payments in order to make them pay more fees. If that's not the service you're looking for, go ANYWHERE else. read more

My experience at Cube Smart is a clear example of why one should write a review at the end of their experience and not the beginning. When I took up a storage room nearly 5 years ago, I got a great rate, and encountered some the greatest staff ever. Going back a few times over the years, those great people had left and the staff and service got worse and worse. Last year my rate went up so much and they REFUSED to do anything to lower it. Now I received another notification that it went up, again. I called several times to complain and and get them to lower my rate and they refused, each person giving me a completely different reason why the rate went up but each sharing in common, when I threatened to vacate, by saying, "Okay, as you wish" For almost 5 years, I have been no trouble and paid on time and always been a model tenant, yet it cut no ice with them, in their attempts to help me or their obnoxious attitudes. The last few days I went to pack up and both times, I encountered the nastiest, snidest and almost spiteful man in the front office who, even when I cancelled out, felt the need to make unwanted and nasty comments. I left the room clean and the unit as trouble free as I have always been. I moved to a new storage facility today, yes more expensive but the people were pleasant and professional and a couple of people told me they have been there for several and the customer service has been consistently good and the rent raises so minimal. All I can say is shame on the staff at that location, it's manager (If one were to call him that), their district manager and corporate for their greed and lack of having their fingers on the pulse of their facilities!! On 10/2/2023 I visited my storage unit to only find my belongings destroyed covered in rodent feces and urine. There are also cockroaches at this storage facility as I saw a few during this time. I had no idea my belongings were covered in rodent urine until I started to pick up my bags to maneuver things around and noticed that my hands were wet with the smell of urine. I am allergic to cockroaches, i immediately get rhinitis in the setting of them. I stormed to the office to advise a manager of this situation TWICE to only be told "they are not here at the moment and will get back to you later on today". I'm a registered nurse and my schedule is hectic. I have taken two days off from work to attend to this matter. Trying to salvage what is left of my belongings, throw away all damaged items, and trying to close this storage unit. A manager still hasn't gotten back to be regarding this matter, and the weekend is approaching. I have also filed an insurance claim with the hope of my belongings to be replaced only to be notified that rodent damage IS NOT covered with the insurance policy. This is not only frustrating, but it's very inconvenient and unfortunate. The district manager reached out to me saying he will try to get me a refund worth 3 months of storage payments ONLY and that i was responsible for THEIR storage facility being rodent infested. He made it very clear that CUBESMART is concerned with their reputation ONLY and asked me not to leave a review. This was over 2 weeks ago & no one has resolved my issue. First - every time I go, the hand sanitizer dispensers are empty. Maybe it's cause I come late at day and they only fill them up once in the am. But I don't think that's it. The worst experience ever as a new customer for scheduling shuttle pick ups for this location, which was the main reason for going with them. The shuttle service scheduling guy named Francis scheduled requested pick ups for wrong times while I was on phone with him, then he canceled those and rescheduled for another time,again wrong, I got messages confirming wrong times, I had to call back and then finally he was able to schedule it correctly. I requested him to let me know if morning slot opens up during the weekend. He called me later if I wanted to reschedule for that time and I did. Then I left a voice message one day before to cancel my 2nd pick up as I wasn't well asked to call me back to confirm no one did. I called in to confirm so someone else could use that slot. For 3rd pick up request same guy picked up and told per their record I had already rescheduled 6-7 pick ups, when he had made all those mistakes, he will not schedule it. I told him what had really happened on which he got very agitated but finally scheduled my pick up for Saturday 10:30 AM and I received a confirmation text message from Cubesmart. but when I called the number given on the confirmation message on Saturday 10:15am and I asked if the driver is on his way the supervisor told me she does not see any pick up scheduled for me for 10:30 AM, she called the driver and then she called the scheduling person and ultimately told me she doesn't have paperwork for 10:30 AM pick up so she won't be able to send the driver. I had made so many arrangements to be able to take my boxes to the storage at this time - babysitting arrangements with a friend who was flying out to take care of my son. Ultimately my husband came back from his urgent work in case something gets delayed, he had to go back again creating so much tension. Instead of saying we apologize, something got messed up and we don't have your pick up on the schedule the supervisor named Honey went on a rant with me extremely disrespectfully and said she has notes that I was rude to somebody on my previous call and she doesn't want to schedule a pick up for me. I tried to ask what had happened but she continued being interruptive and telling me I was rude to someone previously just to cover for her rudeness and mistake for not scheduling the pick up at the right time. I heard this supervisor talk crap about me to the scheduling person not realizing she was not on mute. The previous person obviously entered whatever notes to cover himself for the many rescheduling mistakes that were made, but I don't think this supervisor had any reason to be so disrespectful to me, no patience at all to listen to the customer. When I asked for her to let me finish my question, she said she doesn't have time for this and asked me to keep talking putting me on music /hold telling me she won't listen to anything I was saying and kept coming back and putting me in music time and again. When I asked for that person's name, she went on another rant saying I should not be telling her what her name is and what her designation is etc. I did not even tell her anything I just asked for her name so I know who I had talked to. being unnecessary defensive she continued being disrespectful. If they refund my money, I will take out my stuff and move it to a different storage. I do not want to deal with this kind of customer service and disrespect every time I talk to these people they need to understand what Customer Service means and they need to give the customer a chance to speak properly and they need to be trained properly to understand that customers also have many things going on and they need to be patient to listen to the customers. This lady, the supervisor kept telling me she doesn't have time to listen to me at all, and she has to entertain other customers, but she herself kept shouting for very long. I kept listening to her as I needed my pick up scheduled but I feel violated. I would not recommend this place to anyone if the customer service is this bad. My bad that I did not read the reviews people had them being so disrespectful before signing the lease. I hope someone from Cubesmart leadership reads this message and understands that their staff needs to be better in their interaction with the customers. I'm sure they're gonna get back at me for this review, but I have to let other future customers and their leadership know how I was treated. Two people making mistakes supporting each other and the supervisor treating me as dirt. If they continue this behavior with me again, or create problems with my stuff stored there, and continue giving me problems with the shuttle pick ups that was part of the deal I signed up with them then I will take it up to the consumer court. I am a well educated professional homeowner in Manhatten who understands my rights and the service levels that should be there for such businesses. I started by reserving a small unit online. I went in to see just how small it was. The staff was very kind and helpful. Delilah helped me the first day I came in and showed me the unit. Twice, because my girlfriend showed up a few minutes later and I wanted a second opinion if my things could fit. I came in a second time on move-in day and realized I needed a unit one size up because I had more boxes than I thought. Delilah was not there but Rita showed me a unit the next size up and the paperwork process was quick and painless. The special was 15% off and first month free. Plus I could get a free truck and driver for my move. Juan Carlos called and texted me before the appointment time and showed up in front of my door. He helped me load and organize the truck, and then drove my girlfriend and me to CubeSmart. When we got there, my girlfriend and I unloaded the truck while he found us a cart to put everything on. He loaded the cart with us, sent us up even though we still had some things not on the cart. While we were stocking our first cart into the unit, Juan Carlos showed up on our floor with the rest of our belongings. He then arranged the boxes in the unit for us and made the entire move completely easy! I don't think I could have stacked my belongings as well as Juan Carlos did. Thank God he helped us! He's amazing! Delilah, Rita, and Juan Carlos are da bomb diggity! I definitely recommend this place for storage. It's very clean, the staff are friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable, and they helped make the move almost effortless. They also have coffee in the lobby! My supposedly contactless move-in experience in June was such a mess that even my movers, who have seen a lot, called it a "shitshow." The location was poorly maintained and outrageously understaffed. Registration took forever: my online registration somehow didn't work correctly in their system, and I kept having to fill out a form online and then wait in a very slow line to talk to the customer service person again, only to be told I needed to fill out the same form, and repeat. I would have left right then if I hadn't had movers arriving. After nearly an hour of waiting in a small room with half a dozen other people (so much for contactless), I finally got registered. Then it took TWO MORE HOURS to get moved in to my storage unit. One of the elevators was broken ("Oh, it's broken? Nobody told me that," said one of the two employees to me, a couple of hours in to this ordeal), and the other one came only about every twenty minutes (how can an elevator possibly be that slow??), at which point as many people as possible crammed into it with their stuff (again-- "contactless"). The elevator requires a code to work, and they gave us codes, but none of the codes were working. So every time it finally came, someone would punch in their code and it wouldn't work, then the other passengers would try THEIR codes and they wouldn't work, then someone would go to the desk and try to get the attention of a staff member to ask for a working code, and they'd give some all-access code that also kept not working. It. Was. A. Mess. And then when it finally went up, it would be 20 minutes before it would come back down. In desperation at one point I climbed the stairs to meet my movers to save time (there was no more room for me in the elevator, and I was paying my movers by the hour), but the stairwell door was locked. I called them and asked them to let me in from the inside, but it turned out they were in the "east" part of the building and I was in the "west," and they needed to take that ridiculous elevator to get to me. After about 25 minutes of waiting in the stairwell, I gave up and walked all the way back down the stairs. When we finally got everything up to the storage unit, the unit turned out to be locked. We had been told it would be open. We called down to the office and got no answer. So we had to go all the way down again, in the world's slowest elevator, to get a staff member to come all the way up again in the world's slowest elevator and unlock the damn thing. It took almost three hours to move a very small amount of stuff (one pickup truck load into a 4x6 unit). I had to pay movers for all that time. I had used movers because I was being very cautious about the coronavirus. With all the exposure I got that day, I should have saved my money. My stuff is there now and I'll keep it there till I need it because it's not worth the trouble to go elsewhere, but I would never recommend it to anyone. Oh, and as we were leaving, a big fire truck pulled up and firefighters with axes came in to the office. So now there were four more people in that little room. "Oh, this happens all the time," the staff person said when I asked what was going on. "Our fire alarms accidentally go off and call the fire department. But there isn't a fire, don't worry. And now you know your stuff is safe!" ...OK, good...? Editing to add this postscript-- The biggest problems here were institutional problems: utterly insufficient number of staff members, poor registration systems, poorly maintained elevators, nobody responsible for making social distancing happen. CubeSmart is as good as it gets in terms of Manhattan storage. Rita at CubeSmart was great help! I reserved a CubeSmart online, but didn't realize it was a "top locker" and when I arrived I realized there was no way I'd be able to move my stuff up there. Rita was kind and helped find me a bottom locker. Juan Carlos is also an amazing mover! I would highly recommend CubeSmart for anyone looking to move. He is professional and helped me move my boxes into the car and into my locker even though he definitely didn't have to/that's not part of his job. JC, thanks for everything!! read more
