I've only been to Makeup Mandy the Newport Beach location once but definitely returning again. The service was amazing, clean and with a great environment. They have so many different services that you can get done, but I only had time to get a couple done. I got my eyebrows tinted and waxed by Tanya. She is basically the eyebrow queen. She knew exactly how I wanted them and she even colored my brows after so I can go about my day without redoing my makeup. I can't wait for my next appointment. read more

I came here once for eyelash extensions and was not blown away. I really wanted to love this place since I was willing to splurge for once and had heard so many great things about their services (many refer to them as "best in town"). Unfortunately, the result was not what I had expected. After a clear consultation about my expectations (natural look, soft lashes) I left two hours later with extra curly, long & thick lashes and minus $275 in my wallet. To be fair, I had gotten an eyelash perm a few weeks prior to this. So the technician (whose name I do not recall) quietly tried to match my extra curly lashes, which amplified them into "MEGAlashes". I was surprised that she did not express any concerns prior to the session ending, to set clear expectations. Once I left to checkout two hours later and explained that I had had a different look in mind, the owner (Mandy) explained that proper procedure should have been to get my lashes relaxed / straightened first, before applying the fake lashes. I explained that I would have gladly paid for that additional service, if it had been suggested beforehand. In a "next time you'll know" type of fashion, I was not offered any discount or other incentive to come back again, for what was clearly her employee's oversight / lack of expertise / lack of communication. I was offered to come back for a quick fix on a different day, but the idea of laying there for another 2-3 hours to get the results I should have received all along, did not seem appealing. Not a terrible place (clean, pretty, easy location), but I just don't think their know-how & customer service can justify their high prices. read more

I've been going to Makeup Mandy now for about 2 years, appointments every other month or so, I've had eyelash extensions and brow waxing done, and I've always been very satisfied with the work. The staff is very friendly and accommodating, and the environment is girly and fun. I always feel like Amanda is personally invested in making sure I look great before I leave, and so I definitely make sure to get an appointment before any special occasions. Compared to several other places I had brow waxes or eyelashes done in LA before finding Makeup Mandy, she is by far the best - in terms of skillful attentive work, reasonable prices, and the lovely relaxing environment. read more

Cute little makeup store on Melrose, I noticed it yesterday when I have a few minutes to kill before a party...Browsed the selection of bath and body products and makeup of course...I was drawn to the Hawaiian Malie products, which all smell like a tropical vacation. All of the girls working here were sweet and accommodating, asking if I needed help and letting me know what products they liked and how they worked. Most of the items in the store didn't have price tags, though, which is kind of a drawback. read more

bought a makeup class from groupon since i just turned the big 3-0 and my idea of makeup is putting on some tinted moisturizer and heading out the door. i was a little worried about parking but i was able to find residential street parking less than a block away. the spot is really cute and in a nice part of west hollywood. i arrived a few minutes early and the set-up is nice - at the front they have various cosmetics, to to the right they have make-up stations, and in the back it looks like private rooms. complimentary tea/coffee available and a nice clean bathroom. the class of 5 was led by two great teachers - a makeup artist and a skin care specialist - and they walked us through the basics of makeup. they started with a brief overview of skin care (cleansing, exfoliating, etc - wished they had spent more time discussing this - recommending active ingredients and products) and then jumped into makeup. i felt really comfortable asking questions and even though my other "classmates" brought their own makeup we all ended up trying out the products and brushes that they had available. i really enjoyed that they broke things down to very fundamental, easy-to-understand concepts. we spent most of the time on primer/foundation/concealer/basic coutouring/blush/highlighting and so didn't spend as much time on eyes and almost no time for lips and brows (i was really interested in brows). they made sure that we understood each of the steps, welcomed questions and topics that everyone in class was interested in, and checked to make sure we left looking beautiful. i ended up purchasing some items (20% off discount from the class, 10% with yelp check-in) and later looked them up online and found that the prices at makeup mandy were on par with what i could find online - definitely worth it to buy products here to get their professional advice in a professional and nice environment. overall great class for a beginner like me (not sure it'd be suitable for people who are more knowledgeable about makeup, though) and would definitely consider them for bridal makeup, if i was interested in eyelash extensions (seems like they do a lot of that there). read more

Mandy is great. She uses her own products and works super fast. Great personality and really wants her customers to be satisfied. It is pricey. Her lash extensions are said to last up to 6-8 weeks before a fill is needed unlike most others that last only 3 weeks. She also has her own line of eyeliner that works to make your lashes grow stronger and longer and it's worked. Highly recommend Mandy if you do go there. Also, Melissa is great at blow outs for hair. read more

I am beyond thrilled with the results of my recent (first, but definitely not the last!) visit to Makeup Mandy, a few days before my wedding. I went in thinking I would get the party lashes, but then decided to do the actual lash extensions. Mandy spent nearly 30 minutes discussing with me the pros and cons of each--she was super patient, helpful, and knowledgable. She was very intuitive in terms of figuring out what kind of lashes were best for me--I wanted something dramatic but not to club-ish since I'm a professor and it would feel weird to have crazy lashes in the classroom. The result is exactly what i wanted--my lashes are gorgeous. They are noticeably gorgeous, but still completely natural looking. No one can even tell that I have extensions. I've only had them for a week, but so far so good. I don't feel like I need to wear any eye makeup at all during the day--not even mascara. But one word of advice: buy the mascara that they sell in the store (the special kind with no glycol or oil) just in case you do want an extra dramatic look for going out. I bought the eyeliner and wish I had purchased the mascara as well. Mandy also suggested that I tint my brows, which I had never done. I couldn't be happier with the result. Between the lashes and brows, my face now looks naturally and easily beautiful. This place is on the pricier side, but I think it is worth it, absolutely. read more

I went in for a "makeup class" I got as a groupon gift. The class was described as how to apply makeup with a glass of champagne included. The class was about six women and we were all cramped onto one tiny table with our knees and shoulders bumping... And the "glass of champagne" was some champagne poured at the end of the class into styrofoam cups. I didn't learn anything from class, but you might have learned something if you know absolutely nothing about makeup. I was definitely disappointed since it was expensive. Their office space is nice, which is why I was surprised at the low level of quality of the class. I felt like I was being taught behind the counter of a CVS. The class is taught by professional makeup artists but they did not behave very professionally. Also, when I expressed concerns that I didn't think the application they used on me was right for my skin, they acted like my opinion didn't count because I wasn't a professional. The point of this class is to improve your makeup skills, but it didn't provide. read more

It's been 2 weeks since my last eyelash extension touch up. They already looked crazy and i lost a lot of the eyelashes. I did research and found Makeup Mandy and I got really lucky with the girls!! I was SUPER impressed with their honesty and professionalism. Nicole did my eyelash extension touch up and i really really can't recommend her highly enough!!! I felt really comfortable with her. I have been through so many eyelash extensions artists and I couldnt be happier than with Nicole! They looked just perfect, beauutiful and natural at the same time! After the session, Nicole answered my questions articulately, and taught me a few things because i'm pretty clueless about makeup. Well, i had a wonderful time with Nicole during our session. She's so cute, down to earth and professional. Now if only I could keep her with me. I could look that good every day! :-) She's the best. i also have to thank Mandy. She's so cool and warm!! This place is fun and exciting. The energy is great with smiles all around. The music is awesome and the girls are all so amped about what they do. They specialize in eyelash extensions and let me just tell all you ladies, this is an extreme addiction! Life will never be the same without these lovely lashes in my life. I can just wake up and go if I need to. You wake up looking like you have curled the lashes and applied mascara perfectly. What a look! And the professionals at Makeup Mandy are beyond. They even have complimentary parking in the back. The only reason why I didn't rate them 5 stars is the lack of seating while you wait, but I haven't ever had to wait so that's a star in itself. :) I recommend this place to every glamour girl. read more

Astrik has been doing my threading of eyebrows since I moved to los angeles years ago!!!I was completely scared to try someone new and had to keep driving 3 hours to my old gal but I was so lucky when I met Astrik! I went to this place to get my lashes done because the usual favorite one I go to was out of commission for a while so after googling this place, I expected pretty good work considering the L.A location and L.A prices.......... well I was completely disappointed with Mandy's technique. The place looks ultra professional but sadly the work is not, it is of an amateur extension specialist. They don't cater to the customer's request or apply the work according to how the eye is shaped, she pretty much just used the same length and diameter of lashes going all the way across the lash line making it look like I had applied falsies from the local drug-store. Sorry but natural lashes don't look that way and it is what I specified. Dramatic flares jobs are easy to do, they don't take much technique or skill at all, basically anyone could apply the dramatic look, I however didnt want to look like I had on stripper lashes though BUT I do have to say they were incredibly welcoming and accommodating but in terms of their work, it fell way short of quality and skill especially when charging over $250 for a full set. read more

Makeup Mandy is a godsend. When I moved to LA from Florida, I was in search for a place that was like the one I had at home- super friendly, not stuck up, super helpful, and really, really good at what they do. When I found Makeup Mandy and met Amanda and Julie, I knew i found my place! That was two years ago and I can't be happier. They do my lashes the way I love them, makeup, eyebrow waxing, body treatments and spray tanning-even my hair- I work in the entertainment industry and I can go to them the day of a Premiere and do everything I need- and I always get compliments. Amanda is amazing with makeup and hair & Julie makes my lashes and tan look great without looking unnatural. I recently started going to Angelina for eyebrows- she made my brows go from no shape gross to looking like a million bucks! (she also has amazing tips on places to shop around LA, super helpful)! I've had strangers stop me to ask me if my lashes are real, because "they look amazing" and insist on taking down their number. To sum it up, Makeup Mandy is a gem here in LA. read more

DO NOT GO TO MAKEUP MANDY!!!! I had my makeup done on Sunday and ended up with an infection all over my face and neck!!!!! I am on antibiotics for TWO weeks . I called to ask for my money back and they rudely asked for 'proof' because its most likely 'just a breakout'. Yet I walked in on Sunday with clear skin and 48 hours after leaving Makeup Mandy had red swollen burnt looking skin. Even my dermatologist was grossed out. read more

We booked our bridal party, family, friends hair and makeup here. The boutique was very cute and the girls were very nice, Mandy did an excellent job on my hair and makeup. It was quite expensive but we were in Hollywood so I suppose it was location mostly that drove the price up. Their makeup line by Kevin Aucoin is AMAZING!!! I bought lipstick and powder concealer and I have to say it is top notch the best I have ever spent money on. The only things negative I would have to say was that there were girls called in from other salons to accommodate how many we had coming in to be made up. Some of the girls seemed a little inexperienced and I just felt for the money we were spending it would be top notch. One of my bridesmaids pulled her hair out and did it herself, and the others curls fell out almost immediately after being done. Once again, very nice women, great little location, awesome cosmetics, just a little disappointed since it was our wedding day, but overall good service. read more

This is my first ever yelp review and i'm sad that it has to be a bad one but I feel compelled to warn others about their hidden pricing based on who knows what. I just got an arm wax here- never again. I called up beforehand and asked how much an arm wax is and she said $25. She later claimed she said "starting at $25" but even if she did, I still got majorly ripped off (no pun intended). I got a wax from just above the elbows down (at most places this is considered a half-arm)...the waxer was pleasant, the dark room isn't great for waxing and she even said it was hard to see but whatever, that's not where my main complaint lies. My complaint is that when I went to pay, the woman told me it'd be $40!!!! I said that I was told that it was $25 and she hit back with "starting at $25"...I'm 5ft4 so my arms aren't very long, I'm not a hairy gorilla (and I've been waxing for years so the regrowth is minimal), and I was waxed from just above the elbows down...where that extra $15 worth of waxing came from I have no idea. To make things worse, patches of hair were missed because it was practically done by candlelight. I'm sure they're good at other stuff there but a word to the wise- with any of their prices claiming to be "starting at" prices, they are going to charge you whatever they feel like, which is more than most higher end places. I came here on 9/12/14 and had the "leading lady" make up application done by Michelle. I was going to a fundraiser event that night in West Hollywood and a lot of celebrities were going to be at the event as well. I wanted my make up to be up to par with theirs. Michelle did an excellent job with my eye brows and eyeliner. Of course the rest of the make up looked good as well, but I really wanted my eyes to stand out and have a bit more drama to them than my usual everyday make up look I do on my own. I actually had a lot of confidence at the event knowing I looked like a celeb myself... If you wear mascara every day I can't stress enough how amazing it is to get eyelash extensions! It is so nice not having to take it off and put it on every day, saves time and energy. I've gone a few other places to get eyelash extensions and I thought they did a good job, before I came to makeup mandy. The women here did a great job applying them, fairly quick and painless, but the best part was how well they lasted after! Before my lash extensions would fall out after a week and a half and they would start to burn so badly by the end of the second week! I thought this was normal and was told I had to retouch them every two weeks, but my lashes by makeup mandy lasted over a month and weren't uncomfortable at all, no burning thank goodness. They are more expensive here but you get what you pay for, it evens out in the end because if you take care of your lashes they last twice as long as going somewhere cheeper. Makeup mandy also has great availability, I work 7 days a week and have a never changing schedule, but they can always fit me in when I have a free minute which is so convenient. read more

I had been here once before looking for some simple strip lashes for an event. After looking through the very "over the top" selection, I explained that I needed something a little more natural that would just open my eyes up a bit more. The very tired looking salesperson, after trying to sell me on some of their more expensive lashes, finally looked around and pulled some out of a drawer that were very simple, and applied them for me. When I needed lashes again for an event, I decided to try this place again. I called first to find out the hours that day and got a VERY loud and VERY pushy person on the phone, who wasn't really listening when I was explaining what I had previously come in for and what I was looking for. She just kept trying to push the "party lashes" on me. I explained that I just needed a simple strip lash, and had gotten that there before, but she cut me off and told me I would really like the single lash application. Once again I explained that I did not have time for anything like that (to which she challenged me saying "it only takes 10 minutes), that I was only looking for a simple strip. She then told me that I could just come in, but that normally she would ask for a credit card to hold an appointment. I was stunned, but went in anyway as it was close to home and I was running out of time. When I arrived there was a very unenthusiastic looking woman sitting in one of the make-up chairs. She didn't greet me when I came in, nor did she acknowledge me at all until I had walked around the store for a while and clearly couldn't find what I was looking for. She finally asked (from her chair) if I needed anything, and when I said that I was looking for lashes, she just pointed a finger at a small rack with lashes on it and kept sitting there looking disinterested. At that point a woman came from behind the counter and pounced on me "you just called right?" and before I could even answer shrieked "did you just call??" I turned to her an said yes, and then she went in to her exact same hard sale pitch that she had given me (and I had declined) on the phone. When I explained to both ladies what I got on my last visit, they insisted that it did not happen...that they did not carry the brand of lashes that I was describing, and kept insisting that I do the single lash treatment. When I told them that yes, I had in fact gotten them there, the woman in the chair said "well I am the owner and I know for a FACT that we don't carry that brand". She was the OWNER?! I was shocked that a business owner would not only behave in such a non-professional manner, but that she would waste time arguing with a potential customer to be sure she "proved them wrong", rather than getting up out of her chair and try to find the closest match to what I was asking for. Only when I headed for the door to leave did she finally get up and go to the exact set of drawers that the salesperson had gotten my lashes from on my first visit and say "well maybe we can find something more natural..." I didn't wait for the end of the sentence. I told them thank you and walked out. Bottom line...if you want rude and relentless up-selling attempts, a "customer is always wrong" attitude, and an condescending/apathetic owner, then this is the place for you...otherwise I would try somewhere else! read more
