My fans would close upon placement, even after I dipped in a micro dot of glue. Wow. Snail slow. I've been lashing for many years and this is truly the slowest glue I have ever used. I want my $$ back. Their lashes I would never use. I saw them up close at the same convention. They're shiny and look fake! No matte lashes available. Thank God for quality adhesives. So surprised. My original review sort of canned my first experience there and she responded apologizing for the less than stellar performance of her artist for me. Mandy offered me a special discount for my next set of lashes since the first set wasn't perfect. I kept her email and many, many months finally took her up on her offer. Since I was going out of town to Las Vegas for a few days with a girlfriend I went with the party lashes with the one week glue. Wow! Fantastic. She did a great job placing them on me and I just loved them day by day. You do need to be careful as I did knock off a little during the next few days but it did not detract from the beauty of these lashes. Anyway, I loved them and Mandy for caring about her clients. So, my poor eyebrows have been neglected for the better part of 2010. I finally had the opportunity to eradicate this unfortunate situation while walking home from Urth one day. It was a Friday late afternoon and Makeup Mandy looked like they could use some attention (which is probably the same exact feeling my eyebrows had). They were able to fit me in without an issue, and for that I am truly grateful. I actually enjoy (ok, maybe enjoy is an exaggeration) getting my eyebrows waxed. I find it therapeutic. But this particular experience tainted that notion for me. I can't completely allocate blame on Makeup Mandy, as my hair was probably holding on for dear life since I had let it create a home for so long! Unfortunately for me (and my eyebrows) instead of using the hot wax and cloth duo I am used to, it was the puddy type of wax that is applied and then peeled off the skin. No bueno. I cringed through the entire process. Maybe it's because I wasn't prepared for it, or because my eyebrows were being stubborn, but it was painful. I think there may have been tears. And then the tears turned into sobbing as I handed over my cc for the $30 charge (not including tip). And then full blown blubbering ensued when I noticed that I had caterpillar-sized red irritation above and below the brows. After all was said and done, my brows did look fantastic, so I will give credit where credit is due, and although I vowed never to go back, I think I would be willing to give them another try. This salon is very tiny. I came to get my eyebrows shaped. I usually do them myself but I have been both lazy and busy. My goal was to get my left eyebrow shaped like the one on my right. Thats the stronger brow of the two. Its just what I call 'my good brow'. So, I was asked, "how would you like them". I didn't have a preference. Pluck, wax, or thread. I care not of that so I decided to let her decide. All I wanted was my troubled eyebrow to look like my 'good' one. Long story real short... I didn't get what I wanted. Sure, my brows look alright (according to friends and family), but I wished they were done differently. I should have spoke up. My ladies enjoyed their brows. One got plucked, the other got a tent. I grabbed a pamphlet on my way out. I checked out all they had to offer. I noticed how ridiculously expensive this place is. Maybe its the neighborhood. Whatever the case is.. Makeup Mandy basically has everything one could want from great service, luxurious environment, and skilled eyelash setting. Amanada there will really listen to what you're looking for and adjust her service accordingly.... bring in pictures to really let her know what kind of look you like. Also, if she thinks a half-set or something else would be a better fit for you, she is not afraid to suggest it. As well as lash extension there's tons of other products there that I never knew about, and you can learn about them while you're getting your lashes done (party lashes, this spray that makes your make up stay on for hours, etc). The price is reasonable for what you get and they have awesome specials a lot of the time too. I would not recommend going somewhere that skimps or speaks English as a second language as detailed communication is vital. It's definitely a EUREKA moment for learning how the hell those celebrities manage to look so good... by going the extra mile and getting services done like this. read more

I love Mandy and her team. When I have to get ready for an event, I often come here especially because they are right up the street from me. The organic spray tan and eyelashes will do most of your prep work for you if you are going on vacation (think Vegas or a beachy trip). I know, what? Lashes in the pool? Well, with the extensions those babies weren't going anywhere. I am kind of bad, and I will mess with the extensions so for me - a better choice are the "one day" lashes. But again, I this is personal preference. They are also really great about knowing what clubs and restaurants are hot in LA. I bought a Groupon deal for $49 for a 2 hour makeup class. This class was a basic beginner class, which was perfect for me since I am pretty clueless about makeup. There were six people in my class, another girl and I sat at a vanity-mirror type space and the two pairs each had a table to work on. The environment was friendly and everyone got along well, joking around and making small talk. What a great idea for mother-daughter bonding, as there were two mom-daughter pair in the class. I'm terrible with names, we had Rios (?) talk about skin care briefly and then Christina (?) began talking about makeup. The class was set up into sections : Face (Primer/Foundation, Concealer), Cheeks (Highlight, bronzer, blush), Eyes (Primer, lid, crease, highlight, liner--we kinda skipped mascara), and Lips and Brows briefly. Christina would demo the section on a volunteer and then everyone would try it out while both instructors walked around answering questions and helping us out. They brought out a whole bunch of different products for us to try and made a great effort to find the shades and colors suitable for each participant. They answered all questions well and made us feel comfortable asking whatever we wanted. I also felt that the pace was great for beginners. The instructors were incredibly patient and friendly. They made the techniques as easy and simple as possible--definitely geared towards newbies to the makeup world. There was a 10% discount for our purchases that day and everyone bought something. I think this is a great set-up for an introduction to makeup. Grouponers get to try out products and learn how to use them (makeup, brushes, etc) and the business makes money off the products that are used in the demonstration. There was a sort of an expectation that we would buy things, but I did not feel any pressure at all to. I also got my eyebrows done by (Rios) after my class and she did a fantastic job, taking her time to tweeze and shape. There is a little alleyway RIGHT before you pass the shop on Melrose on the right that you can turn into and if you go about 50 feet you'll see the three parking stalls on the left on the backside of the store. I am brow obsessed. well, not as much as I used to be - but on the list of beauty regiments, brows are up there along with pedicures. Quick, easy fixes that make you feel more feminine and look better. Your brows frame your eyes and make a huge difference to the appearance of your eye. Trust me on that. Make-up Mandy is cute little boutique on the West end of Melrose. I drive to the west side for my brow fix and figured I would look for a closer option. The beauty lines they carry are not that unique- Murad, Bloom; good lines but easily found elsewhere. The ladies working there were friendly and helpful. My brow wax was..... good, okay. She largely followed my existing shape and the wax was quick and painless. But... it was not 'brow artistry', for a lack of a better way to put it- it was merely an adequate wax job. She also did not shape or trim, the way my usual brow girl does- which is the finishing touch. They tout eyelash extensions as their specialty- perhaps this is where the artistry comes in- who knows, maybe I will return if I ever want lash extensions. I love this place! Every time I have gone, I have been greeted by the owner, who is very sweet and welcoming. The vibe is laid-back and fun. I have gotten the eyebrow shaping (lovely, not too thin, not too thick) and today I got the airbrush tan. I don't know if I would have gotten the airbrush tan if not for the gift certificate I received. But I know I will be coming back. SO much better than a Mystic Tan! I am a lovely golden color without streaks or blotches. Ready for my New Year's tropical vacation. Sure, it was a little ... ahem...awkward to lie there wearing only a paper thong, but you get over it. The only drawback was that it was CHILLY. I absolutely love this place! They excel both in quality of services, as well as their professionalism. Makeup Mandy specializes in eyelash extensions, but they also provide a lot of other great beauty services. I've only had the chance to try out the party lashes, mink eyelash extensions, and personal eyebrow design and threading, but from speaking with their other customers, they really seem to do great, consistent work throughout their menu of services. The mink eyelash extensions were AMAZING. I'm Asian, which means I have super fine and puny lashes. The minks made me comfortable enough to go through my day without wearing eyeliner or mascara and lasted for almost 6 weeks, which was basically a miracle. In addition to the quality of services, I loved the ladies that work here. Each of the girls I met were very friendly and knowledgeable about the whole menu of services and products they carried, and it showed. They were able to answer all of my questions about any service or product, including maintenance and followup questions. Even though I never had to wait when I was there with an appointment, if I did have to wait for a few minutes while someone was finishing up, there were a lot of great products in the store for me to check out. Outside of the services, Makeup Mandy is also a really cool boutique store that goes out of their way to carry beauty products and jewelry that can't be found in your typical department or chain store. The owner, Amanda, told me that they test out the products themselves before they allow them to be sold in the store, which means all the stuff has credibility. I haven't been able to make it back since their recent move from their Melrose /La Cienega location, but I hear the new place is still close by and even better! Then the correct product was left behind - the primer I originally wanted. I called to get a refund. They recharged me and refunded that. Then I called a second time to adjust the original charge. My first experience at Makeup Mandy kind of got off to a rough start. I had booked a facial and a half set of lash extensions through lifebooker. The deal was 50% off on the facial and $100 for a half set with a junior lasher. It seemed like a good deal and since this is the first time I would get getting lash extensions, I didn't want to spend too much in case I didn't like the lashes. Prior to my appointment, the manager called me to shift my appointment time. That's not a big deal, but then she told me that they do not have any junior lashers anymore, so the price of a half set would be $250 instead of $100 with a master lasher. That kind of threw me off. It felt like a bait and switch. Why offer it on lifebooker if you don't have any junior lashers? Or, yes you don't have any junior lashers right now, but still honor the price. Anyways, I decided to go with the master lasher at $250 b/c I really wanted to try lash extensions and I also had a VISA gift card my brother's gf had given me, so to me I still wasn't paying the full price to try something new. Then, came my appointment. When I arrived, the manager informed me my lasher was running a bit late in her last appointment. I figured, not a big deal b/c I'm a little early anyways. I was offered water and I just sat and patiently waited. 20 mins later, I'm getting kinda nervous. I parked at a meter and did not want a ticket. The manager, Erica I think her name was is REALLY wonderful. She is like the best in customer service. She knew it was unacceptable to be waiting this long and offered me a free eyebrow wax. I chose a lip wax, since I just got my eyebrows threaded. Then, she gave me a free gift certificate for a makeup lesson and a free eyebrow brush. I like free stuff. It's great, but at this point it was like an hour late for my appointment! I told her i needed to feed the meter and she gave me directions on how to park in the back of the store. I decided since i waited so long to just skip the facial and do the lashes. That does seem to be their specialty anyways. I've never gotten lash extensions before, but I thought the lady that did mine was really good. I think her name was Astrik (sp?). She was gentle and I even dozed off a bit. She said a full set would be best, but after waiting an hour I didn't want to spend $500 or the $750 for the package they were offering. I saw the client before me with her full set and she looked awesome. I was so tempted to switch to a full set, but the hour wait really bugged me, and I had really did want a facial too. After she was done, my eyes looked so pretty! I really liked the lashes. They looked natural and I didn't need eyeliner or anything. I think the full set probably is the better way to go if you can afford it. My lashes really only lasted about 2 weeks. On the website I saw they guarantee lashes to last 4 weeks, but I don't know if that applies to a half set. With the full set you also get a free touch up in 10 days. Overall, even though my experience was kind of less than perfect, I really liked the lashes I got and I loved the customer service Erica provided. I would update lifebooker to get rid of the junior lasher option, and even though I know they have no control over late customers, I kinda wished they told the girl before me, you can't change change your service if you're late. Well, I know they probably want to please all their customers, so I will just say it. If you are late for an appointment, please respect other people's times and not ask for a longer service. I have tons of allergies and am not allergic to the allergy free products that she uses. My lashes last 6 to 8 weeks because of the products Mandy sells for the care of the lashes. She is very careful to investigate the science behind the best products for our skin and eyes. I think it is false advertising and not clearly stated. They went over basic foundation application, basic contouring, eyes, eyeliner, etc. Didn't go in depth about anything at all. If you have no idea how to apply the very basics I think this is an ok class. I felt like the other girls in my group were unaware it was really for beginners as they seemed to have the knowledge of everything we did. We were all at a VERY small table and just not enough room. They offered champagne and literally brought it out in a pink cup and it was a quarter filled up. I am not a big drinker but don't advertise glass of champagne when it is more like a sample! Also at the end of the class they offered 10% of all products in the store. I was going to buy the Model in a Bottle but it was $20 at their store which seemed high. Online on various retailers it was $12-15 so that pissed me off...good thing I didn't but it! It may be close to me but I would never go back. read more

Last week since a Makeup by Mandy employee called me and offers a special where if I do one service, I would receive another service for free. I was ecstatic because I knew I wanted my eyelashes done by my amazing eyelash lady and also, wanted to take advantage of the special so I booked a tanning and a hairstyling appt for my first red carpet event. I was looking forward to being glammed up! I added a picture that shows my hair not even an hour after I get my hair professionally done by Mandy. I asked for a relaxed curl with volume - Ariana Grande style, even showed pictures - but I didn't expect my hair to turn out like this one hour before I had to attend an event. It was just extremely disappointing when you go to a facility who prides on providing professional service for A+ list celebrities and clients, where I thought I would at least be treated that way and my hair turned out like this. I got home and had to redo my hair entirely with so little time. I was not mean or rude to anyone - I even tried to help rearrange my day because they were busy but I didn't think this would have happened. My boyfriend's birthday trip to San Francisco was coming up, so as I passed by Makeup Mandy, I figured it was a good time to try them out for some skin and beauty TLC. April was really pleasant when greeting me and introducing herself. She even asked me how much time I had to spend there, which was really thoughtful. We decided to start with a deep cleanse facial. She was really gentle but surprisingly effective! Before now, I hadn't been to a facial esthetician who could extract without it feeling like my face was in a painful war zone. She didn't use any extraction tools; just her really soft hands. It was so relaxing that I almost fell asleep. Afterward, my face looked really clean, bright, and healthy. Love it! Next, my eyebrows needed some touching up. April waxed my brows with great technique. This also was pretty gentle. She seemed to be very meticulous, making sure she got every rogue hair and that both brows matched up beautifully. I have pretty thick brows, but she was able to sculpt them so that the thickness worked with my face instead of being overbearing. All in all, what a great decision to walk in here! I moved out to LA back in May and had been looking for a place to get my lashes done again since relocating. I have had the same lash stylist in Chicago for the past 3 years and was very nervous about seeing someone new. Nicole at Makeup Mandy made me feel so comfortable. She asked me if I wanted anything to drink and then made sure I went to the bathroom before the service began. Nicole told me to wash them with this special cleanser to make sure all my makeup was off. After that, I went into this cozy little room where she had me lie down. She covered me up with a soft blanket and before I knew it "VOILA"! The best set of lashes I have ever had!!! They are super thick , long, and light as a feather. ( I will re-yelp in a few weeks on how they hold up) I bought some of that cleanser stuff she had me use in the bathroom to take off my makeup and keep my peepers oil free. She said it would extend the wear of the lashes too! From the time I walked in the door to leaving the staff bent over backwards to make sure I was happy. Everyone there was super sweet to me. If you like being treated like the beautiful goddess that you are, then go to Makeup Mandy! The staff is wonderful and very accomodating. I had a brow wax and my lashes done, and both came out perfect. First of all, my brows are VERY difficult to work with...I have blond hair, so if they're too thin you can barely see them, and I could never pull off the thick look. They did a fabulous job on them, and I'm very picky. As for my eyelashes, they look like my own, only enhanced. Absolutely gorgeous. I got so many compliments at the wedding I went to that evening. After it was done, the artist struggled to tell me what she had done - I had to ask what things she used and prompt her to give me info on specific technique. Hands down the best brow wax I've ever had in my life. It's a little more expensive than brow bar but for the attention to detail they give you it is worth every penny. I had them done for the first time for my wedding and my make up artist even commented on how great they looked. They took the time to make them that way and I so appreciate it. I'll admit it. I'm not a girly-girl. I was initially dragged to Makeup Mandy as a victim of an eyebrow intervention, but once I saw the majesty of properly sculpted brows...I was hooked. Never again would I put up with my burgeoning unibrow or upper lid caterpillars. Mandy makes me feel like I'm a superstar. She answers my emails, she works with my impossible schedule to fit my appointments in, and overall is just a lovely woman with a lovely business. Little by little, she's trying to help me find my inner girly-girl potential. Whether it's a quick spray tan, a small dash of makeup, or even the fabulous party lashes that I debuted at my birthday party last September (to overwhelming compliments, I may add)...I trust her recommendations and judgment, and haven't ever been let down. I write the review today as I sit in awe of how amazing my skin feels. She recommended a light peel, mask and facial for me, which I had tonight, and WOW. My skin is completely glow-y, and I just want to keep touching it because I can't believe how smooth and gorgeous it feels. Great great place to go! I FINALLY found a makeup artist who is an ARTIST! His name is Blake and he does not do one size fits all makeup. They offered a great deal on a Groupon (2 hour makeup lesson for $39) and as an actor I am always looking for ways to improve my makeup for auditions (especially because most lighting is sooo bad). Blake knew right away how to do my eyes and I even went back for a private lesson. He is talented, nice and extremely knowledgeable. The entire staff is nice and welcoming whenever you go in and they do have products that would be difficult to find anywhere else. After going to every other makeup store in L.A. (Naimies, Nigel, Cinema Secrets) I would say that their knowledge far surpasses everyone else. Definitely check them out! I checked pricey not because everything is pricey...I thought that the private makeup lesson was quite reasonable and some of the products are reasonable priced but some other services are definitely not in my price range. Both services needed to be done over and were performed by professionals that seemed inexperienced. I always got complimented on my natural eyelashes and their length but was sick of wearing mascara so I decided to try lash extensions. Got a gift card from an Oscar's gifting suite for Makeup Mandy and after reading her good Yelp reviews decided to give her a try. My lashes looked okay for about 2 days - though there was a lot of black clumpy glue giving me an eyeliner and not natural look. After that they immediately went all askew and got clumpy and crappy. I have since realized that despite buying all new oil/glycerin/glycol free make up and taking superb care of them they are clumpy, fall out quickly and worst of all have RUINED MY NATURAL LASHES!!!! And I only got them done three weeks ago. I am so sad. I have tiny baby eye lashes. I called another lash pro to ask what's up and was told that if my lashes were: 1. itchy 2. clumpy 3. fell out quickly and took my natural lashes down with them which they were all three - I got a crappy technician. Now I'm stuck with either no lashes or will have to continue paying a bundle for extensions. I'm miserable. DO NOT GO HERE! just FYI, they have free parking in the back of their building. had i known, i would not have parked on the street in front and would have avoided a $52 parking ticket because apparently you need a permit to park anywhere in West Hollywood -___- anyway. had a $100 gift certificate from my boss so i decided to check them out and use it on a facial, cuz really... who needs eyelash extensions in this economy? i would never spend $100 on a facial either but wanted to put the certificate to good use. got to the place, its super tiny, and i was brought to the back by a skinny girl in glasses, she didnt even bother to tell me her name... in fact. she didnt mention her name at ALL the entire time i was there. i was super nervous, this being my first facial ever.. and she didnt do a really good job of making me feel at ease. why do i say that? because she didnt know where any of her products were, was constantly dropping bottles... reading labels as if she had NO idea what the product was used for..and didnt even really give me a thorough consultation in terms of asking me how my skin is and what kind of treatment would be best. so yes... i was even more nervous now. either way i bit my lip and laid back for a facial and was pleasantly surprised when she was massaging my face and neck cuz it felt really good! i think the experience would have been better if the lady on the other side of the wall wasnt yapping away about her lovelife. although i didnt kno half the stuff she was putting on my face...at the end of it all, i did have tighter, glowing skin... so i guess she kinda knew what she was doing. either way. if they had better customer service they would have gotten another star. i wouldnt really recommend coming here unless you have a $100 gift certificate like i did and dont want it to go to waste. read more

My first time ever getting eyelashes put on was with Maria at Makeup Mandy. She was great about explaining my options for length/style/look etc, and really attentive to detail. I was super happy with them after she was done - but even more impressed that they've stayed on so well 4 weeks later. Just got my first set if eyelash extensions with Michelle and I am obsessed! They look so gorgeous and natural my husband didn't even notice they were fake. Make up mandy is sucha cute lil eyelash bar/makeup studio... it just so happened to be that I came right before I went to get my facial done today. I was greeted by mandy, the owner, who was sweet, and ready to please. She gave me a lil tour of her place, and I have to say, it was super cute, because there were like 5 rooms, with different color schemes with different works.. in other words, the pink room was where the girlys got their eyelashes done, the blue room where the girlys got their waxes done (no perverts! Not downtown... lol, uptown, ya heard? Like a, like a your face???) lol... list goes on ... mandy was really easygoing, trying to show you diff types of makeup she had, and I have to confess, for someone who loves makeup, I was into something called "freeze24.7" haven't tried their products yet, but I did ask for samples, so make sure to ask for samples, so ukno what u get yourself into ... and sure enough, mandy gave me some-thx mandy! There's so much to get done here (all in one), makeup, hair, personal design when it comes to eyebrow designing/arching, spray tanning, eyelash extension... they have the whole works for eyelashes, so come check it out.. eyelash extension, for a full set which lasts for 4-8 wks, costs from $350 and up, and for a lash touch up, it's $150... basically, if ur into eyelashes, this is eyelash heaven for you...lol The downfall is parkin can get crazy, but if ur familiar wid the weho (west Hollywood/Melrose) district, u kno, it's normal... one block west of Robertson, right before doheny... i feel that it's not fair to give any rating because i haven't done anything yet, but since everything comes with service, parking, etc etc ... i give it a 4 read more

Fan flipping tastic!!! So, so much fun to have someone make your eyelashes long, beautiful, and shiny - it brings out my devilish green eyes. Now you barely notice that I'm about a thousand years old. The ladies here were gorgeous, approachable, and smart. Diana did my lashes, she's a bad-ass, and by that I mean she did a perfect job and was really lovely. Even though it's a bit of a drive it's totally worth it, the quality of service is so much better at Makeup Mandy's. These women are bosses. Thanks for a great experience ladies.
