Ok, I was hungry for Mexican food. A SoCal transplant to Chicagoland, I gotta say I was missin' it…read more So, as hub-hub was out of town on family business, I headed over on a windy Saturday night for some grub! I was greeted immediately and enjoyed the ambience. A bit old, but still nice. It even looked like they had an windowed view spot where we could see....what... the tortillas, maybe, being made? A good sign. I was sat in a very lonely spot, at the far backside of the restaurant on the only 2-person table I saw. Oh, wonderful. It appeared the table hadn't been completely wiped clean, so I asked a busboy to wipe it down - he very promptly complied- nice. Ok- as the menus came, so did the tortilla chips and homemade salsa- wow. The chips were THICK and the sauce was really good- albeit a bit spicy (not a crime!). The waitress came over, introduced herself, and I promptly ordered their special drink- the "Mexican Mai-Tai". Gotta say it was good! I ordered off their special menu- enchiladas tomatillo with pollo (chicken). I swear, less than 2 minutes later came a small bowl of soup (not expected, but ok) - then less than 5 minutes after ordering the main? Came the main! The beans and rice were nice; it came with a bit of shredded lettuce- and the 3 enchiladas were not bad. At all. Definitely satisfied my craving for Mexican food! Why the demerits? The holy grail of any restaurant is always the service. Once I completed the mains, the busboy quickly took the dishes off the table. And then I waited. And waited. I flagged down a busboy and asked for my check- he said he'd flag down my waitress. And then I waited. After 15 minutes, I bagged it. I put on my jacket and went to the host desk and complained. Though I was able to pay at the front desk, why did I have to wait? What was so important on a not-so-busy Saturday night that meant I had to wait for my bill? Just awful, La Hacienda. I don't mind waiting a few minutes (most restaurants have this awful habit of making diners wait too long for their bills anyway, right?). But 15 minutes? And even after I pointed this out I still waited to no avail? No diner should ever be asked to wait until they "got around to it". Would I come again? Naw. Sorry, but even though the early part of the meal was great and I was speed-served the food? The finish killed it for me.

The rice was standard -- nothing bad, but nothing memorable either. Prices were reasonable, but for the quality, I was expecting a bit more in the flavors to stand out in some way. It wasn't a bad experience, just not one I'd go out of my way to repeat. If you're nearby and craving Mexican food, it'll do -- but it's not worth a special trip.

A waitress brings you chips and salsa and the menu. We saw at least 10 people come in for large pickup orders. It looks like the building was a Pizza Hut in the past. The restaurant is clean and nicely decorated but could use some updates but definitely feels cozy. The weather is in the 90's and the restaurant is nice and cool! There are several TV's mounted on the wall throughout the restaurant. Two are showing menu items, one is showing a soccer game, one is showing golf. and the last one is just some random tv program. The sound is off and they are playing Spanish music. There are lots of great menu items. I had a hard time picking out something to eat. I have never had a torta and decided to order the Chile Relleno Torta. It was spectacular! The bread was crispy and warm on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside. It was seasoned perfectly and I could taste all the individual ingredients. I would definitely order again and recommend you try it as well. Definitely better then I expected. My husband ordered the Carne Asda burrito Suizo which he orders everywhere. Wow it is huge and the meat was tender and definitely one of the top 5 that he has ever eaten! Our waitress was very kind and attentive, she even refilled our chips. We left the restaurant full and happy! We will definitely be back!!

Always a welcoming place, they can seat large parties or get a small table set up quickly. Sometimes they have mariachi players walking around, and in the past used to offer dancing in the bar. Always smiling and making sure you're having a great dining experience. My boyfriend really likes Lalo's as well and we come here sometimes just for date night or with family. My boyfriend really likes their burritos, which are quite large, and I usually order the Al pastor tacos. Their drink menu is pretty good...The red sangria is incredible! They serve it mixed with fruit and it's just delicious and refreshing- perfect for a summer evening... but I'll drink it year round. :) They have a cute outside patio area for dining in the warmer months. Overall, we'll continue to come here and enjoy the good food and drinks!

It was located very close to our hotel, so we stopped in for carryout on a Monday for lunch. It was fairly busy, with a lot of workers coming in for lunch during their workday. It is fast casual style, where you place and pay for your order at the front, and then they will deliver it to your table. We ordered carryout, and waited a bit for our food to be expertly packaged. I was half expecting it to come an order of chips, but it didn't. We ordered four platters (a platter consisting of rice and beans). - asada skirt steak taco (2) - $11.49 - it was good meat, no gristle, decent amount of meat. it was topped with very finely shredded lettuce and diced tomato, with double corn tortilla (one can choose flour instead if wanted). The marinade was good. - pastor (2) - $10.49 - it was topped with diced onion and cilantro, Decent meat, OK flavor. - Enchilada Rojas ($11.49) - ground beef, wrapped in a tortilla. It was well prepared and delicious. - Quesa Birria ($11.99) - off menu, coming with two fried corn tortilla, surrounding shredded beef and melted Chihuahua cheese. The two tacos came with plenty of consume to dip. For the price, it was a good value with plenty of tasty shredded beef. Everything was good, especially for the price and the area.

Overall it hit the spot, but not sure it is a place I'd be running back to anytime soon, moreso a place of convenience.
