Parking can be a bit of a challenge as this restaurant is a neighborhood restaurant, reminiscent of old school Trenton and the vitality this type of establishment brings to the area. Excellent food and great, friendly service. We were a party of eight and everyone loved the appetizers of Spanish sausage and empanadas. We had the surf and turf, chicken with wine sauce and lobster tail with Spanish rice... everyone raved. Desserts were excellent and we were treated to a complimentary cordials. Staff was AMAZING! Incredibly knowledgeable about the menu and specials and went over everything in detail and didn't hesitate to help me order. Had a margarita before my meal. It was very good! We had the octopus appetizer that was on special. Never had it before. Really loved the presentation. My husband ordered the steak special that came sizzling on a hot rock! Definitely recommend that dish! I had a seafood dish with rice that was very good and way too much for one person. My favorite part of my meal was the beautifully done espresso and Tres Leche cake. This place is a staple in the community and for good reason. The service is wonderful - they are so attentive and constantly refilling your glass of sangria. Their red sangria is the best. I really wanted to like this restaurant. The menu looked good and the servers are friendly, but the food just isn't that good. It's what people might have thought spanish food was like 40 years ago. The main dishes just weren't very tasty, and they made substitutions without checking with us. The crab stuffed fish became carrot and scallop stuffed fish --and one of us had a scallop allergy!!! read more

I am always amazed that the same type/level of Spanish food that can be found in the Ironbound Section of Newark is here on the Trenton/Hamilton border! My only criticism is that I am a huge paella fan, and I don't care very much for their paella. But everything else is pretty much the same as if you were taking the drive up to Newark, including the shrimp with garlic sauce, and the sangria. read more

Sorry but my friend had a birthday meal here and it was terrible. I offer 2 stars because the service was good and parking was easy but the food was really bad. My steak come out overdone and was served on a very very hot pan so it continued to cook at the table. After 5 minutes it was like rubber. This was made word that it was a very cheap cut of meat. The sides were flavourless and it was way to expensive for the poor quality of food. I hear that this place USED to be really good but I think they need a new chef and spend a little more money on better quality food. Sorry guys. read more

Such a GOOD place! We came here with my parents for my birthday in March. Everything was lovely. The welcome was warm and inviting, the service was friendly and attentive, empanadas for apps were yummy, every entree sooo good! My parents really enjoyed it and my Dad is not easy to please. Mom had the flounder special, Dad had the lamb chops and cleaned his plate. I had one of the mariscadas and my husband had the paella. Afterwards, the manager brought over an after dinner drink on the house. So nice. They even have Flamenco dancers on certain nights. I'm so glad I live in the neighborhood, I can even walk there for a cocktail and a nosh. read more

Took a party of eight to Malaga for a special occasion, it was wonderful. The service was indeed fantastic, the restaurant was clean and upscale looking, and the food, oh yea. I personally had the Paella A La Valenciana, a bowl of deliciousness just loaded with shellfish, shrimp, mussels, chicken, and sausage over saffron rice with half a lobster laid over everything. All parts were cooked perfectly, it was awesome. I tried bites of the chicken in wine sauce and filet mignon and all were equally as good. We also had quite a few pitchers of the red sangria which was tasty, and they were kind enough to bring some flan and serenade for our birthday guest which was fun. Overall the restaurant was really top notch all the way around, I would definitely recommend it. The handled our party of 8 with ease, bravo Malaga. read more

I would go again for the empanada and sangria! There was a group of 10 and we found the service entertaining - perhaps because of the the sangria (lol) Everyone was there at 7, for our 7pm reservation, and we were seated at about 7:45. Then when the waiter came to take appetizer order, he only took part of the table's order before leaving to put in order. We'll pardon that confusion on his part that one person was ordering for everyone. He did get all of our orders as requested and the food came in timeline fashion - given that the restaurant was packed! Everyone at the table enjoyed the appetizers and entrees. Another yum for the empanada!! The only one with issue was the Veggie Paella, which had a fish taste to it. I ended up throwing away the left overs because it was overwhelming. When I called the gentleman did double check with the chef who indicated there was no fish in any of the ingredients , but said someone else had same complaint. I would think at that point they would start checking each ingredient or digging deeper, but he seemed unconcerned about the potential allergic reactions that could be caused by surprise ingredients. That means only 1 of 10 dishes were poor, so still a good rating - although I hope he reconsiders my request to dig deeper. :) read more

Outstanding steak sizzling on the plate with fried shrimp and various sauces. Empanadas and Merescada salsa verde are fantastic. Drinks were perfect. And the live music and celebratory mood in the restaurant was a lot of fun and came genuinely from the staff. Even got a free digestive liquor at the end. I am very impressed by the entrees. The sirloin beef tips are very tender with a lot of flavor. The rabbit store is very moisturized and with perfect seasoning. White bean soup is also very delicious with surprising freshness. If you go and eat these, you won't be disappointed. Food also come in good size, I can barely finish it. The stuffed dumplings needs more flavor inside. The cream Catalana is on the sweet side to my taste, but I have very low tolerance of sweetness. I wish there are more cream flavor can show. The staffs are very friendly and very good at telling jokes. It was a total fun dinner, and I will be back for more. read more

This was our first visit to Malaga. When we pulled into the parking lot there was a strong smell of rotting garbage. We had arranged to go for lunch at 2:30 and discussed that when we made our reservation. When seated we had to argue with the waiter to get the lunch menu which is considerably less expensive. Both of us ordered the seafood paella. The bread and salad were excellent. The clams, mussels, and shrimp on the paella were Ok. The lobster and scallops were not fresh at all. They had an off odor. We were both sick the next day. The rice in the paella was an ugly brown rather that the expected yellow from the saffron. We will never go back to this restaurant. read more

Let me start by saying we've been fans of Malaga's for years; we enjoyed going there with family and friends for dinners out and special occasions. Back in June we placed a large takeout order to celebrate my 60th birthday and everything was perfect. Sadly, our last two takeout visits were a disappointment. Each time my husbands filet mignon was served without the brandy and mushroom sauce; even after double checking when the orders were picked up. More importantly, when picking up the food last night, my husband said that Covid proticols were not being followed; both sides of the restaurant were packed! I hope that these glitches are not the norm and we can look forward to ordering from Malaga again in the future. read more

First let me start out by saying this restaurant was a great experience! We had the empanadas as an appetizer. There were 3 small empanadas cut in half served with a delicious sauce. The empanadas were outstanding and made for a perfect appetizer. We had a white bean soup with vegetables which was absolutely delicious. As a main course I had the Paella Valenciana which had a 1/2 lobster, shrimp, scallops, mussels, clams, chicken, and chorizo. Everything was made perfectly. The scallops were amazing and the chorizo was fantastic. This whole dish was amazing and you might think it is for 2 people but let me say you might just want to finish the whole thing yourself! My friend had the Maricada which is a Shellfish Casserole in a Tomato Sherry & Brandy Sauce. Also served up with a 1/2 lobster and all the seafood you could want. Service was amazing as well. Servers came by the table and kept things in order without it feeling like an interruption. On a Friday night we arrived and completed our entire visit in under an hour. Fantastic!!! read more
