I ordered Uber Eats and they failed to deliver my Chicken Vaca Frita that I ordered and PAID for. When I called Malanga to complain, they said that it was Uber's fault and then she HUNG up on me. I called back, and the woman was arguing with me on the phone, and was emphatic about the fact that she would NOT replace the Chicken (I expected this gesture out of courtesy), and then she HUNG UP ON ME AGAIN! I have never been treated so horribly before. This is one of my favorite Cuban restaurants in Miami, however, I was treated so disrespectfully this evening, and without empathy, that I will NEVER order food from Malanga again. The woman -whose name I failed to get- did not have to hang up on me, and could have defused the situation by offering me a credit for future service, or -AT THE VERY LEAST- a sincere apology and compassion for the situation. read more

It is so upsetting that this is our only choice for a sit down dinner of Cuban food in Pinecrest/Palmetto Bay! I'm not impressed with the flavor or preparation of their food. It really doesn't feel like authentic-home cooked Cuban food which we can find by driving farther. Not having a choice is horrible, but worse than that, it's impossible to reach them over the phone to order for take out. No answer, over and over again and then they hang up on you when they finally answer. Calling is the only option since their online order menu does not match their menu listed on their website!! First of all, I really like the unique name "Malanga"... delicious root veggie, which many a Cuban (and others of Caribbean descent) has enjoyed at some point in their life. I love a good 'crema de malanga' or some malanga with 'picadillo'...but I digress. This is a new restaurant on S. Dixie Hwy and it claims to be home of the "Best Pan con Lechon" (pulled pork sandwich). I have to admit, it was spectacular. My husband and I could have EASILY shared this dish and our appetites would have been satiated. It was a very generous portion; the pork was minced and the seasoning was just right - not too over-bearing, nor lacking. The bread was fluffy and very soft, which enabled it to soak up all the juices. We asked for some 'mojo' on the side and it too, was great, with chunks of onions and spices...we enjoyed that with the 'yuca frita', too. This side dish was fresh - just fried, which is great because in most places what you get is refried and reheated. The only reason this review is getting 3 stars is because while we stood there for a good five minutes, there was a large party waiting to be seated (we were only 2.5 - the '.5' being our baby) and no one minded us. At one point, the blonde lady (who is either the proprietor or manager or something) looked up at us, muttered a question in our direction and when I said: "no we're not with this party", she just shrugged and continued fidgeting with the table cloth instead of having us sit down - there were plenty of tables available. It wasn't until I asked one of the waitresses if we could sit, that we were actually taken care of. My understanding is that this restaurant just opened. In SFla, not only does your food need to be good, your service needs to be better. We are a fickle crowd down here and unless you're REALLY GOOD and your service is REALLY, REALLY GOOD, it's going to be difficult for that business. Our waitor, was super nice as were the other waitresses, but I can only hope the proprietor understands that her staff will mimic her attitude towards patrons, so she needs to mind her behavior and the service she extends her customers. Came here for a small bite with a friend of mine. I ordered a chicken noodle soup and he ordered the pan con lechon. My soup was not cuban chicken noodle soup. It had tomato sauce to it and it was a bit on the sweet side and to top it all off they serve it in a large shallow bowl to make you think that you are getting more than what you are. It was more like a cup of soup. I was not able to eat it. The lechon was good. Had nice flavor..but come on. It's pan con lechon! Serve the darn thing in cuban bread. Don't try to fancy the thing up and serve it in a baguette and add lettuce to it. To end the meal we decided to share a crema catalana. There was no crema part to this dessert. It was not creamy. I've always wanted to try this place because of how cute I thought it looked from the outside. My boyfriend got a groupon and surprised me with lunch here; the interior looks just as cute as the exterior of this restaurant! We asked to sit outside so enjoy the beautiful weather but for some reason our server said no without explaining why. That was kinda weird. We started off with three appetizers, the Cuban nachos, mixed ceviche, and fried malanga. Cuban nachos were the highlight of our whole meal! Four huge tostones the size of your palm, topped with generous amounts of your choice of meat! I drizzled the ceviche juice over mine to bring out all sorts of fun flavors. The ceviche itself could've been better quality wise, was not a big fan of the tiny shrimp. As entrees we had the mustard chicken and picadillo. I was disappointed by their picadillo because it honestly reminded me of the kind of meat sauce you would use in spaghetti... Both texture and taste wide. The ground beef was super chunky and the taste of tomatoe was powerful. I didn't even fancy it with my white rice, I took leftovers home with intentions of eating it with pasta. My experience was not so good here. The food was mediocre and the service was just terrible! They do not have enough staff! The bread took 15 minutes. When I got there I sent them a text to get a discount on our bill. I let the waiter know and he still didn't apply the discount! Yesterday, I went back with a friend to try the food for a second time. I had the opportunity to talk to the Manager regarding my first visit, when I got very sick because of the pork sandwich. I was sharing the details with her and she didn 't show she cared. This time around, I ordered chicken soup and my friend had malanga soup. We both got sick again. Secondly we ordered fried plantains and it was sad. They looked like they had been soaked in oil and they had been in the back for along time. You can tell when they are freshly made. I do not have the name of the gentleman that came to our table to take back the plantains because he was very rude. when he asked him t if he could please change them. His response in a rude way was, they are going to come out the same. When he came back, he brought the greasy plantains and we could not eat them. They gave us a credit. Worst experience at a restaurant I've ever had. I ordered multiple items through Uber eats and paid a large bill. When the food arrived, I realized that part of my order was missing. To most, this is an easily corrected issue. Call the restaurant and they will give you what you pay for, right?.... WRONG. They told me there was nothing they could do and let it at that. We ordered bandejas for our Christmas Eve dinner--lechon, rice and maduros for 8 people. The rice and maduros were good (though nothing special) but the lechon was downright terrible. The meat was obviously overlooked (very dry) and had no flavor. Even drenched in mojo sauce we couldn't save it. More than half the bandeja was left uneaten. This place is small and cozy, a great place to go out with friends or for date night. I came with a coworker of mine, I have the vaca frita and my friend had the pulled chicken sandwich. The vaca frita was delicious and tender and the congri was cooked perfectly. The only thing I feel I should note is that when I went to order a glass of their sangria, the waiter let me know that it was not $5 as it said, it was actually $9. He let me know before bringing it out and I didn't end up getting it. Other than that it was a really good experience, the staff was really nice and super attentive. Went to the restaurant for dinner on 7/16/12 w/my sister and son and was extremely disappointed with the food. I ordered the pork stuffed crepe and it was more of a burrito than anything else. I expected something much lighter in weight and texture. The lechon, well seasoned, but just a lil bit dry for my taste. I also had the crema de malanga...yuck... couldn't finish it, the cheese made it too clumpy. Finished the meal, or should I say attempted to finish my meal with a cafecito, which sadly, I couldn't drink; cold, unsweetened....again yuck. In need of some refueling during Christmas shopping, I decided to stop in at Malanga Cafe, having read in the Miami Herald that it had one of the best pan con lechon sandwiches in Greater Miami. When you are arriving, you are greeted by a sign heralding the sandwich as world's best. I, for one, never like to see the adjective world's best on anything, as it tends to usually disappoint me. We dined on an early Wednesday afternoon and the place was not too crowded. Service was prompt and friendly. Easy listening Latin music wafted over the speakers. The opening app of ceviche was tartly tasty, but was overpriced for the meager amount which was rendered. Sides of black beans and rice and tostones were "just ok". The pan con lechon was given a "very good" rating by my Cubana wife. I found it to have a generous amount of pork, but I found it to be a little drier than I expected. I requested some mojo from the server, and she brought a type of au jus which I'm guessing were the drippings of the pork cooking process. This sauce soaked nicely into the pork and the bread and sent the sandwich over the top into the very good category for me. Now as for worlds best, I have memories of my uncle-in-laws preparing pork slow roasted for parties, the leftovers of which made for GREAT pan com lechon which were better than Malanga's. However, this place definitely beats the generic Cuban chain food of Versailles or La Carreta. So I would agree with the Herald's estimation of one of the best sandwiches in Miami. The meal was topped off with a surprisingly delicious and moist tres leches cake. All in all, we had a pleasant dining experience. I would give Malanga's 3.5 stars, and would visit again based on its proximity to my home. read more

I used to work at Norman Brothers and people would ask for ME to make their Cuban Sandwiches and Pan Con lechones on those rare days we had that as an option. I would recommend them to Malanga Cafe for pan con lechon. They claim to have the best pan con lechon. I walked in thinking "it's pan con lechon, how could you possibly mess it up or make it better?" Well, I have no clue what sort of delicious marinade they use for that lechon, but they were right! Hands down the most delicious pan con lechon I've ever had. Don't get me wrong, it's not like eating it from the caja china. It's well shredded and filled with this delicious juicyness which I can't figure out. The best is when I asked them to bring some mojo and cilantro (forget the mojo) they make some wicked cilantro sauce that made me tell my friend Ana, "oye acere! Esto esta....nice." This isn't the place to bring abuela, but it's definitely a terrific lunch spot. read more

So when I saw the Instagram posts that describes and pictures and videos show some delicious menu items, I just had to try. So I ordered four Cuban malanga bowls, the guy on the phone had no clue, I had to check and make sure I was calling the right place. Then I heard a lady in the background say yes, yes he wants the cuban malanga bowl, I said yes "just like the pics and videos". I also ordered eight tamales, and asked is it like the pictures on Instagram, does it have onions,tomato, pork etc.. he says yes everything is inside the tamales. Mind you the food was expensive but I thought it would be worth it. Included pics of what they advertise and pics of what I actually received. I wonder if I have to say make it special it's for camila cabello, granted they post her all over the page eating there. Food delicious! Everyone left stuffed! Very exclusive feeling. Wish the parking lot was larger though had to park at the restaurant next door. I wish they would expand their business or find a larger building. Lines out the door! But service was great, food was better! Everything was authentic and delicious. There really is a pig roasting outside and the pork is delicious and tender. Definitely get the malanga fritters! And their sauces are delicious! I'll admit, I am not that well versed in true Cuban cuisine, but I liked it a lot. I was there with a friend on Wednesday night (9/9/15 at about 8pm) and we both enjoyed the ambiance, drinks, and food. Service was very good and they were very attentive to us. I'm actually going back tonight so I'll provide an update. Never completely judge a place on 1 visit. But so far, a solid 4 out 5 stars! The update: Went back in 9/12/15 at about 7:30pm. It was a Saturday night so naturally they were very busy and we waited maybe 5 minutes for a table. The ambiance is great, and on one wall they have a bunch of written inside jokes that only Cubans would understand which I think adds to the charm of the place. Ended up having a 2hr dinner. Just had great company. We never felt rushed. I had the fish of the day which was Mahi Mahi and it was very good. My friend had grilled chicken breast with house sauce and onion. Very nice flavor but a little dry. The Sangria is delicious! Excellent service! Definitely going back! read more

What a horrible experience! We have been saying for the longest time we have to try Malanga as we drive past it almost everyday. So one Tuesday night for our anniversary we did and I wish I didn't. The dining room was not busy at all so I can not blame the poor service on being full. Once the food was served we had to grab a server for a refill. The largest complaint was the Sangria. We asked for half a pitcher which came in a carafe. Once we tried it the sangria was very sweet and lacked wine, the base of any good sangria. I mentioned it to the server and she said she needed to speak to the owner. The server returned saying the owner said we could buy a glass of wine to add to our sangria. WTF?! It was already very light in color. Keep in mind it was $25.00 for half a pitcher. PS, the food was decent. Not amazing but not bad. Once I had to also ask for the check and I saw the price of the Sangria, I had no choice but to leave a wonderful note on the back of the check suggesting the server speak to her owner about our tip. The owner then sat behind our table to join "friends" and never once came to speak to us. I left the server and that restaurant a $0.00 tip and suggested she have the owner comp the over priced Sangria so she could get tipped. Sorry, not sorry. read more
