They stand in the window with a line of customers waiting to order and they are there just having conversations like if they are in their living room. We had the manager "Sergio" take care of us. I have never been treated so rudely in a restaurant. He even lied about his name and invited us to make a review. La Carreta in Doral is a great place to come for lunch. We ordered Shrimp Pineapple Tostones for appetizers. I ordered Grilled Mahi Mahi with Garlic Sauce. The food was delicious and plentiful. I'm actually so disappointed while I'm writing this review. Let me start with the service our waiter was amazing, very nice and attentive (Ricardo). This review is not based on service. It's based on how poor the quality of food was. I have been to many Cuban restaurants and especially La Carreta. Born and raised here in Miami you know the spots to hit. Well this Carreta gives the others a bad name and reputation. For example my chicken vaca frita was basically thrown on the plate from a pollo carretero (chicken thigh) including a bone, the tostones were soggy and full of grease. My husband had a croqueta preparada the bread was not toasted and hard not glazed with butter like it normally is. We ordered a crema catalana with no toasted sugar and our cortadito was all milk, no coffee or sugar. So disappointing honestly! This carreta needs a revamp!! Definitely nothing like the one on Bird, Kendall or Little Havana.. get with it and make this one better!! read more

I was on my way to work and I was craving some breakfast so I went ahead and stopped here and it was really delicious. The wait time however is long and that is something that you have to keep in mind if you're on your way to work .just be prepared that you're gonna be there for at least 15 to 25 minutes in order to get to order your food. Once you get to the window to order your food then it comes out pretty quickly if you're getting staples like something in their bakery or coffee. now if you want to order food like bacon or like eggs, steak things like that then you're definitely gonna have to wait a lot longer and I recommend that you go inside the restaurant and not use the outside window. read more

First day in Miami and it poured rain, so we decided to duck into a mall to start some shopping. When hunger struck, we found this nearby, and came here for lunch. After waiting for almost 10 minutes w/o anyone else in line, the host finally sat us next to the bar area. Knowing by our appearance we are not of Latin or Cuban descent and spoke almost no Spanish, he put us at a table where our server, though very nice, spoke zero English. Needless to say, we really couldn't ask any questions about the menu. Not a well thought out move on his part. I ordered a Cuban sandwich as my first meal in Miami. It's not bad but there's nothing special about it. So places in California can make it just as good. Only difference is they went heavy with the cheese here. We also tried the Imperial rice. Good flavor but again, heavy on the mayonnaise that somewhat ruined an otherwise fragrant plate of rice. That's a dish we couldn't finish because it was heavy. Had we known or were able to communicate, we could've asked for light Mayo or even served on the side. Third order is the steak skewer. The steak was pretty much raw and full of tendons. The menu states it comes with plantains, but through miscommunication, we were brought boiled yucca potatoes, which were very bland. This order was a complete disappointment The cafe con leche however, was very good. This was a nice way to finish up an average first meal in Miami. The inside was fairly spacious and had separate dining areas with nice decor throughout. Outside, there was also a take-out window with outdoor seating for to-go orders. We went to La Carreta on August 22 around 9 pm with our two children, one of whom is autistic and has sensory sensitivities. When ordering, I kindly asked the server, Yenia, if the French fries could be substituted with white rice since my son cannot tolerate the texture of fries. She said it was "impossible" and then called the manager, who came to the table and told us the same thing--that the food is inventoried and no substitutions could be made. This wasn't about the cost of rice (around $3), it was about flexibility, customer service, and sensitivity toward a child with special needs. A simple accommodation would have made a huge difference, but instead we felt dismissed and disappointed. I have been coming to this Caretta location at International Mall for over 30 years. The service, food, and staff have always been amazing. Their caldo gallego is one of the best out there. The Calle Ocho is hands down my favorite sandwich they serve, however their cuban sandwich and pan con bistec (steak sandwiches) are always on point. What I love the most is their breakast. The carretero special is my go-to. The cuban toast is always perfect, croquettas always yummy, and everything is always made perfectly. Will always come here every time I visit miami. read more

There are La Carretas all over Miami so if you're in Doral, it wouldn't be my first choice. Yet, if you need a good Cuban fix, look no further. Their food is consistent and authentic. Their menu is quite extensive so you have plenty of options from sides and shared plates to large meals. I personally love their batidos (shakes) and 10/10 recommend the papaya one but that's just me. My go-to is the pastel in the chef's section of the menu-- it's a plantain "cake" with ground beef and topped with cheese. They also have plenty of yummy sides but when in doubt, the yucca is the best decision you can make. It's quite a large restaurant but it is very popular and fills up so don't be surprised if there's a wait. The service when I was recently there was super sub-par. My server was super sweet but kept forgetting to brings things out like utensils (so the plates arrived and we couldn't eat anything even though we had asked for utensils and napkins when we sat and then reminded her once she brought our drinks. Then she forgot to bring the bill and were waiting like 20 minutes and was nowhere to be found. Worth it for the yucca though. Many people think about Cuban restaurants in Miami, they are thinking about Versailles. La Carrera will be like a local restaurant chain. Since it has locations all over Miami, it does not sound special or exclusive. However, the food here is superb and really is reasonably priced. The Shrimp Pineapple Tostones I ordered were so flavorful. The Midnight sandwich and Croquettes sandwich were crispy outside and soft inside. Ended the meal with the well balanced Cafe Con Leche was the perfect touch. The service were more tailored to the local regulars, so you might feel like an outsider sometimes. We only get to Miami about once a year. The location is near our hotel. We've eaten there four times this trip, had something different every meal, and it has been truly a wonderful experience every single time. The service was great and the prices were cheaper than should be for the portions and the flavor. The only issue we had was that we don't speak Spanish and that would have helped a few times. We are going home, but we've already said we will be back here on our next trip. read more

I do want to mention this dish called Pollo Carretero. Quite possibly, the best chicken fillet I have had in my life. They start with a de-boned 1/2 chicken. Grilled to perfection, juicy with crispy skin, sublime seasoning. It comes with a side of sweet onions on a garlic reduction with olive oil that brings up the overall flavor 2X. Order it with yellow rice and maduros (ripe plantains). The complimentary Cuban bread never goes unnoticed and is always welcomed at our table so definitely take advantage. Mariquitas chips is another must have starter. And if you've never tried them, welcome to Miami. They're tossed in mojo and topped with a generous amount of garlic.. in case you need some extra convincing. Their Churrasco was juicy and large enough for leftovers or to even share, either or it did not disappoint. Hubby thoroughly enjoyed his steak sandwich which is also pretty big in size. This review is for my experience with picking up food, I have not eaten at this location for many years. I've been to this Carreta several Sundays in a row to pick up food. My experience overall has been very pleasant. The staff has had the food packed and ready upon my arrival. Once I get to my father-in-law's house with the food, it has been consistently hot and delicious. Upon our last visit, I ordered the Camarones Enchilados and the sauce was exceptional. I have to say this is Cuban fast food chain has decreased in the quality since my last visit. The black beans were tasteless and the chucks of pork were dry. I was really bummed out since I was dying to have some authentic Cuban food. Their is plenty of seating for large groups with several rooms ready to seat your party. What I found was that the service is friendly but stretched to thin. One server in one room with over 10 large groups is abusive and really unnecessary. I did observe other areas that didn't have as many people as the room we were in. In the end, our service was slow but he was very friendly and you could tell he was experienced and knew what he was doing. As we were in a family celebration mode, didn't really care about the time factor and also recognize that no one is ever in a hurry in Miami.
