    Cuban coffee

When I stumbled by La Carretta I could only think of Gabriel Iglesias aka fluffy talking about this place when in Miami and had to try on his recommendations. Really inexpensive and tasty food. Not sure how Cuban coffee stacks up to others but definitely hit the spot for this gringo. Quick service and hopping for a Saturday morning. Guava and cheese pastry was so flaky and delicious.

La Carreta in Doral is a great place to come for lunch. We ordered Shrimp Pineapple Tostones for appetizers. I ordered Grilled Mahi Mahi with Garlic Sauce. The food was delicious and plentiful. The waiters were not as attentive and left the dirty dishes from the appetizers when they brought the main course. The place is clean and nicely set up. I will definitely come back.

I was on my way to work and I was craving some breakfast so I went ahead and stopped here and it was really delicious. The wait time however is long and that is something that you have to keep in mind if you're on your way to work .just be prepared that you're gonna be there for at least 15 to 25 minutes in order to get to order your food. Once you get to the window to order your food then it comes out pretty quickly if you're getting staples like something in their bakery or coffee. now if you want to order food like bacon or like eggs, steak things like that then you're definitely gonna have to wait a lot longer and I recommend that you go inside the restaurant and not use the outside window.

First day in Miami and it poured rain, so we decided to duck into a mall to start some shopping. When hunger struck, we found this nearby, and came here for lunch. After waiting for almost 10 minutes w/o anyone else in line, the host finally sat us next to the bar area. Knowing by our appearance we are not of Latin or Cuban descent and spoke almost no Spanish, he put us at a table where our server, though very nice, spoke zero English. Needless to say, we really couldn't ask any questions about the menu. Not a well thought out move on his part. I ordered a Cuban sandwich as my first meal in Miami. It's not bad but there's nothing special about it. So places in California can make it just as good. Only difference is they went heavy with the cheese here. We also tried the Imperial rice. Good flavor but again, heavy on the mayonnaise that somewhat ruined an otherwise fragrant plate of rice. That's a dish we couldn't finish because it was heavy. Had we known or were able to communicate, we could've asked for light Mayo or even served on the side. Third order is the steak skewer. The steak was pretty much raw and full of tendons. The menu states it comes with plantains, but through miscommunication, we were brought boiled yucca potatoes, which were very bland. This order was a complete disappointment The cafe con leche however, was very good. This was a nice way to finish up an average first meal in Miami. The inside was fairly spacious and had separate dining areas with nice decor throughout. Outside, there was also a take-out window with outdoor seating for to-go orders. Overall, we left full but not thrilled about our meal here. You're better off planning ahead to find a better restaurant than this chain. See my photos.

Dry and powdery! Save your money.

The manager Sergio was extremely rude and blaming the customers, us, for terrible and small amounts of food. My waitress name was Gema and she scolded me for asking for a hot coffee. My Brother's fish brought three pieces and it looked like a Kids portion. Sergio, the manager told me I was rude and a bad customer. Don't come here, unless you want to feel like a child that made a terrible mistake and is in trouble.

Staff was okay. Had to wave a few times to get attention. Most didn't speak English. Food was good. Place could have been cleaner.

I was told that when you're in Florida ESPECIALLY Miami you HAVE to get Cuban food. And wow... now…read moreI understand why. As we were driving in, the place already looked beautiful. We came in the evening and immediately, as we walked up, there was music, people laughing, talking, smiling... the energy was incredible. I also loved that there was a bar off to the side while waiting. We ordered a few mojitos and sat outside at the tables and benches, just enjoying the atmosphere. When our name was finally called and we walked inside, I genuinely felt like I was stepping into history. The atmosphere here is unmatched. The music, the aromas, the people. God, I loved it here and I hadn't even tried the food yet. We ordered the braised oxtail (which came with plantains and rice), salmon glazed in guava BBQ sauce, ceviche tropical, assorted empanadas, and a Cuban sandwich. Everything was phenomenal. The sauce paired with the empanadas perfectly. The guava BBQ glaze on the salmon was absolute perfection. It was the perfect combo of sweet, smoky, and flavorful. The ceviche had the perfect acidity and tasted so fresh and refreshing. This is one of the most famous Cuban restaurants in Miami. It completely lives up to the reputation. Highly recommended

DIRT AND MUD IN THE SALAD!!! WATCH OUT…read more We ordered the salad with mango and pecans. They do not wash there lettuce. There was literally dirt/mud at the bottom and I took my first bite and it felt like biting into sand. Upon spitting the food out onto my plate it was black sludge. Literally my tongue and teeth were black. The waiter came by and grabbed the plate when I was in the bathroom. I spent about 10 minutes trying to get that BLACK SLUDGE out of my mouth. When I was spitting out the dirt/mud wife noticed the bus boys laughing at me and there was not a manger in sight. When I asked for a manager he did not even respond. No apology or anything just a look of confusion. Worst experience in a restaurant in my life and I love to eat and have been to many types of restaurant big and small. Cheap and expensive and this one takes the cake. We were so bummed as I see thousands of great reviews. But if there was a zero I would have given zero stars the way they handled the situation. If you eat there in the future make sure to check for DIRT/MUD.

We started with the goat cheese croquettes, which were delicious! The marmalade went well, and the pickles onions and jalapeños cut the richness and were a nice complement. I don't even usually like plantains, and the Maduros were delicious! Oh! And the Passion lemonade was SO GOOD!! Service was friendly and attentive without being intrusive. Regardless when we arrived they sat us outside which is exactly what we were hoping for. Our server was nice at first. Explained all the popular dishes got our drinks out very quickly. I think she stole our table from someone else because shortly after someone came and we told them we put our order in and he seemed a little bothered. Unfortunately, our other server disappeared and never checked up on us. We pretty much didn't have any napkins during our entire duration of our meal. At least that part was good. We started off with a couple of mojitos and their Vaca Frita Tostones. You get these homemade maduro tostones topped off with shreeded beef in a moon sauce, pickled onion, and aji Amarillo aioli. A very delicious dish that didn't last long. Shortly after we received our main dish. I really hate when they do that. My wife ordered their Abuelas Ropa Vieja and I ordered their Masa de Puerco Chino. My wife didn't really care for her dish much. We've had plenty of Ropa Vieja before and would have preferred a congri type of rice as opppsed to just plain white rice. My dish was 10/10. Like in the name of "chino" this is an Asian inspired dish with fried rice, maduros, pineapple confit and crispy pork. A very delicious dish. It could have don't without the little salad on top, but at least it ads color to the dish. The crispy pork tasted so amazing and the fried had so much flavor. Mix in some of the maduros and you get a sweet and savory dish. Would definitely be returning to try this dish again.

We ordered the Cuban sandwich and the Cuban burger, and honestly both were dangerously good. The Cuban sandwich was exactly what you hope for -- crispy bread, perfectly pressed, packed with flavor, and the kind of sandwich that makes you pause mid-bite and just nod at the person across from you like "yep... this was the right decision." The Cuban burger was also fantastic -- juicy, flavorful, and big enough that you start questioning whether you should have skipped breakfast. The area around the restaurant was great too. Nice vibe, good energy, and perfect for walking around before or after eating... which you will probably need to do after finishing that burger. The servers were good -- friendly, attentive, and thankfully didn't judge us for attacking the food like we hadn't eaten in three business days. Overall the place has a fun atmosphere, great Cuban comfort food, and the kind of menu that makes you want to come back just to try the things you didn't order the first time. We stopped here at this one on Espanola Way for dinner on a Sunday, primarily because we had somewhere else in this area to be afterward, and while most every place on this touristy street was packed with a wait list, this restaurant could seat us right away. Service was good all evening from an outgoing waiter, this place was great for people watching (we were seated at a high top on the sidewalk in front), the food was good and the prices were reasonable, especially considering that Espanola Way is one of the most touristy areas on already touristy Miami Beach. I had the signature roasted chicken ($28) and my husband the Cuban churrasco steak ($42) and both included sides. We also had a glass of wine each and again, wine prices were reasonable. While we don't tend to eat in this general area often as it is so touristy which usually equals lackluster food and service at high prices, Havana 1957 was just fine. I'd happily return here.
