3/27/2019 @ 4pm I placed 2 orders threw the phone for lunch to be picked up. when i got back they did not put my moro rice like I orderd, i called back and the man that picked up in malanga, was very rude and told me to bad my order came w white rice and black beans. The decor was nice. I like the tagged walls. The food was ok. Nice presentation. I had your basic steak white rice black beans and Maduros. Flavor was ok just the thin steak was overdone. I told the waitress "de vuelta a vuelta." That's about 30 seconds a side. Overcook it and it gets tough. The feeling I got was "ok you're here on a Sunday night.....really?" I placed an order online with them for a 2 hour later pick up time. I called 5 minutes later to cancel because the person I thought was able to pick the food up couldn't anymore. First of all it took me calling 4 times to get someone to even pick up. Once someone did pick up and I told her my request she said she didn't want to cancel and the order was already being prepared....mind you my pick up wasn't even for another 2 hours so I know that was a lie. I'm not sure how my food would have stayed fresh that long even under a heat lamp. She then proceeded to ask the owner and he said no as well. Really not sure why this place dosen't have better reviews. I've been here a few times and it's always been very good. The portions and service is very good too. We always have the nacho appetizer but tried the meatballs today. They were very tasty. The sandwiches are a great size and full of flavor. For my friends in the Miami area, especially anyone close to Pinecrest........you MUST try Malanga restaurant. IMHO, the best tasting Cuban food in all of Miami. My husband and I finally got around to visiting Malanga. Our son and daughter-in-law recommended it to us and had been reminding us time and again to make sure we went. Well, finally today was the day. We arrived at 7:45 after making dinner reservations to find 4 other couples dining. We were so pleasantly surprised. Genuine Cuban flair, genuine Cuban flavors, genuine Cuban selections, genuine Cuban sayings on the feature wall, genuine but soft Cuban music, genuinely Cuban all around. We are so impressed we decided to keep it as our private date place. Succulent roast pork, thick red beans, flaky white rice, generous portions, an arroz con leche that was incredibly tasty like my Mami's home made version. AVOID AVOID AVOID. If you have any sense when it comes to high-quality food and professionalism, just keep driving and support restaurants that actually DO know how to operate an honest business. Not only is the food incredibly sub-par (the malanga fritters tasted like cardboard and it's supposed to be their speciality item? how?) but the manager is a piece of work. At least she claimed to be the manager. Hostile, dishonest and with zeroooooo regard for customers, she blatantly denied our Groupon Voucher after we followed the rules for using it to a T. We dined on a Wednesday night (Groupon good M-F for dine-in only) and were one of only three couples in the entire establishment so frankly the arrogance on her behalf shocked me. After ordering an entree valued at $14.50 (and frankly not worth it), an appetizer valued at $6.50 (the cardboard balls as you may recall) and a side of plantains at $3 (the cost of the app and side dish totaled the price of another "full meal", their Cuban sandwiches--this is important to note), the manager had the audacity to tell us that she wouldn't honor our voucher because we didn't order "two entrees". Insert biggest eye roll ever. We explained the voucher only outlines that customers must order "two food items" (that is the exact wording) and that our cumulative cost is equivalent to that of two entrees. At this point, ANYONE that values their customers, has basic integrity and an ounce of decency would recognize how arbitrary and ambiguous that "restaurant policy" is and do their best to work with the customer. Menu is not well described and staff not helpful in explaining it. Food was OK overpriced for Cuban fare in Miami. Nice decorations and music choices, albeit a bit loud. If there was a negative 5 rating, that's what I'd give this restaurant. In the past (approximately a year ago) we gathered for many family dinners here and always had good service and food. This time, all new staff and they did not know what they were doing. They were not friendly at all and were not in sync. The food was bad. You'd think this place would be good given the area. I asked for a large chicken soup and when I received it, it wants that large. It has 1 piece of chicken the size of a quarter!!!!!!! And ZERO POTATOES! And not to mention barely any noodles! I waited for a while to get the soup only to get this disappointment. This ain't authentic Cuban I'd you serve a soup with ZERO POTATOES. #Malangacafa. Had a very unpleasant experience tonight at Malanga Cafe in Pinecrest. Ordered chicken soup. Well what I ordered I really didn't get. The pic on the left was the actual soup that was given to me and the picture to the right is the picture on there website. There were no carrots or celery and had about 1/4 tsp of chicken. Called the restaurant and the owner answered the phone, I had told him that we just ordered the chicken soup and it was very salty, and no veggies or chicken. He then replied I made the soup and I never had a complaint before. I then asked for a credit on my credit card. He said no. So I said ok I'm going to go ahead then and post a picture of your soup, and he said "you're threatening me" I said no, but why would your serve something that you wouldn't want posted! He continued to YELL at me, then asked me what profession I was in. By now he was screaming at me, so I hung up. read more

It took me not more than 10 minutes to get there. Was pleased that the order was ready but could not believe the bill came to $30!!! I wasn't feeling well and just wanted to get home. Had been seeing their sign about their World Famous Pan Con Lechon. The place is small and cozy. They have a cool wall, with signatures as well as one with all different types of Cuban sayings. Looks like they got inspired by Hemingway's hang out in Cuba. The actual pan con lechon has great bread, however the size is immense, somewhat difficult to eat. You can share one, its that big. Great service and a nice intimate setting, at least the day I went. I dont think its the best Pan on Lechon in Miami. I still think the one at La Esquina del Lechon is better. I have not tried other dishes and dont think I will go back. Thats why it gets a 3 star for me. read more

The waitress explained that they don't have a bar, but had a vast variety of wines. Therefore, we opted for 2 glasses of sangria (Spaniard) only to...yup you got it...be disappointed once again! It was 6pm on a Sunday evening and they "just ran out"?! Yea ok!! Someone needs to work on stocking their inventory. Moving along... The food was a salty disaster! You would have thought you were eating bacalao instead of the ropa vieja I ordered. It was horrendous. Additionally, something so simple as white rice was a disappointment as well! The rice was flavorless and the texture was extremely hard. The one thing they did get right was my platanos maduros, but then again who messes that up!? My girlfriend ordered the roasted pork topped with guava sauce, with a side of congri and platanos maduros. The pork on the contrary to my dish was flavorful & the guava sauce was good, but once again the texture of the rice was extremely hard! I had the Grilled Chicken with white rice, black beans, and tostones. The chicken was very bland (and it's funny that I should say this because I usually don't mind food without lots of seasoning). The black beans were very bland as well (did NOT taste like the typical Cuban black beans). The tostones were ALSO bland. Are we seeing a pattern here? BLAND! BLAND! BLAND! And to top it all off, my food was semi-cold. My dad had the Palomilla Steak with white rice, black beans, and maduros. The ONLY thing that actually tasted good were the maduros. The steak was bland, and so were his beans. His food was semi-cold as well. Very disappointing! My sister had the Junior Palomilla Steak (kid's menu item) with white rice, and black beans. Well, you know how the story goes.. BLAND! She also had the Mango Shake which she said wasn't bad, but it also wasn't great. My brother had the "Grilled Cheese Sandwich" (kid's menu item) with french fries. This was far from "grilled." It looked as though the bread was barely "toasted" and then they slapped some cold cheese to it. Needless to say, his sandwich was cold. The fries, however, were good. To add insult to injury, when I notified the waiter of the whole situation (even though he was trying to be helpful by calling the owner), the owner only gave us a 10% discount. Mind you, 3 of us had BARELY touched our food.. and all he gave us was a 10% discount?!? Had most of the food been already eaten, then it would be understandable, but that was NOT the case. So we paid close to $60 for TERRIBLE TASTING COLD FOOD THAT WE BARELY ATE. Take away: If you want some good fries or maduros then go to this place.
