Tried a variety of dishes and I felt like the dishes were average for the most part. The staff was friendly and we got our food fairly quickly. There is plenty of seating inside and many options on the menu. Just the food itself, I felt like didn't really pop out at me. They were all solid dishes, but nothing that special or unique that would prevent me from visiting a different place to get the same thing.

1/3/26 I wouldn't get pad Thai again. It's not that it's not tasty it's just not a usual preparation of pad thai . Give it 6/10. Also, calamari is mostly breading 5/10. I'll stick with my faves below ....

Descent food. Everything we ordered was pretty flavorful. The only complaint was that the spicy dishes were not spicy enough. Server was friendly and checked in with us frequently. Good place for casual gatherings. It's not a fine dinning environment. Price reasonable.

One of the best Asian spot in Charlotte! The owners are from the food Mecca of Malaysia so they know their stuff and apparently they've been around for over a decade! Was excited to share with my family who's visiting that CLT does have Malaysian food and seeing authentic dish like belacan okra brings me back home. Obvi they add some other stuff to improve because it's Charlotte (aka not to be compared to scenes like NYC) but overall, will come back here whenever I want to share my culture with peeps in CLT :) Tip: they cook FAST - deff an efficient system since this means they prep everything earlier on Dishes 1) Beef Rendang: 7/10. They deff made this earlier in the day and then heat up when serving. They cooked the beef well as they did not overcook after reheat 2) Belacan Okra: 8/10 - this hits the spot because belacan sauce is authentic to Malaysian cuisine with its shrimp paste chili base 3) hainan chicken: 7/10 - Malaysia is a melting pot so you get flavors and dishes inspired by all kinds of Asian from Indian, Muslim, and different types of Chinese cuisine like this from Hainan 4) Roti Canai: 7/10 Indian inspired - crispier and crepe like 5) sarang burong: 6/10 taro seemed to be fried with old oil but also could be because we're there at late around 9pm 6) chicken satay: 5/10 chicken is a bit dry, woudl try beef next time since they ran out

Our family goes here at least once a week. The foods on the menu here are comfort foods for us. The ambiance is casual family friendly. The waitstaff here knew us since our kids were toddler and know our preferences for drinks to hot sauces so we know the service here will always be great. It does get very busy here Friday night so the kitchen can get backed up so we try to avoid that. Our favorite dishes here are: any curries and noodles dishes. Yum!

I can't say enough good things about Malaya Kitchen. The service is friendly and fast and the food is fantastic. My favorite is the pad Thai but I have tried a couple of other dishes and been pleasantly surprised by all of it. The portion sizes are generous which is great because I love having leftovers. The environment of the restaurant is casual and typically pretty quiet. It's a good place to go for a date night or for a meal with a friend.

Great experience with pick up. This time we went with two lunch specials - padhimmingpan chicken and shrimp with eggplant. Both were spicy and delicious.

Malaya kitchen! Love this place! I visit very frequently 2x a week and it's a staple in my household like bread and butter. Hands down the best food in the arboretum doesn't matter what you get.

Malaya Kitchens food is absolutely amazing and the flavors are so unique. Nothing can compare. The Service is great. They nurture and create relationships with the customers, which many restaurants fail to do. They bring the food out super quick, and they are so kind and sweet about any inconveniences. The ambiance is absolutely beautiful, it feels like you are at home when you first walk in. The smells and aroma of the entire restaurant smell amazing, making you crave the food more.

My dining mate and I really enjoyed dining at the Malaya Kitchen. The menu features Malaysian and Asian cuisine from appetizers, soups, salads, rice and noodle dishes, plus vegetarian options as well as beef, seafood and poultry dishes. My dining mate ordered the Thai ice tea , hot and sour soup plus a lunch special of ginger and scallion chicken. I ordered the lunch special of chicken with Chinese eggplant plus egg drop soup. A little dish of salad came with the lunch specials plus a side of rice ( white or brown, fried rice was an extra charge) and soup was not included with lunch specials. Food was very tasty, good portions, plated nicely, came out hot, reasonable prices. We enjoyed everything and will return. The staff was friendly and attentive and the restaurant with a comfortable atmosphere.

Not for me. The three different dishes tasted the same. The service was fine, except that dishes could use flavor distinctions.

It was our first visit and we wanted to try the curry. We ordered the Thai Red Curry and the Thai Green Curry. Both were perfection! The red curry had just the right amount of spice to give it flavor, but not be too spicy hot. The green was mild, but flavorful. The dumplings were so good. These were both very good and we added shrimp and chicken. I believe they would be just a satisfying with only the vegetables. This is my go to place for Asian noodle dishes from now on...can't wait to sample more of the menu on my next visit.

They genuinely did not taste like chicken at all, and I couldn't even finish them. I strongly recommend staying away from that item. I also tried to order a bubble tea without ice and was told I'd be charged an extra $2 because they would need to "add more juice." I didn't ask for extra juice, just no ice!!! And charging extra for that feels unreasonable and borderline price gouging. Ridiculous!!!! Between the poor food quality and the frustrating service, the overall experience wasn't great, and I won't be returning.

It's very rare for me to do a review and not have pics to accompany it but from entrance to exit I don't think I liked my phone up once. Coworker's company was great but the food really made for a great experience. In addition to that having my coworker speak to the culture of the food made it all the more appreciated. I definitely can't say enough good words about the food and the service and the overall experience. Five stars is all I can give but if there were more this restaurant would well deserve it. The prices are very reasonable for the quality of food served! I have eaten here many times and I have tried virtually everything on the menu. With that said, here is my take on it. Everything that I have tried has been delicious! For cold appetizers, I am a big fan of the Black Fungus W. Vinegar Sauce, Cold Spicy Sour Cucumber and the Spicy Beef Tendon. For hot appetizers, everyone raves about the Popcorn Chicken and I concur that it's very good! I really like the Frled Pork Gyoza too. For the main course, they have some rice dishes, but the main focus is the hot pot soups. They bring out a 300°F Stone bowl of broth (in an insulated pot holder) and the ingredients to put in it. You put the meat and lettuce in first, then the other ingredients and the noodles last then wait for "10 seconds"thus the name of the restaurant. I have tried all of the broths and they are all good depending on your tastes. The original broth is the bass broth. Then they add things to the other others to differentiate them. My favorites are the Tomato Soup (especially with Beef Flank) and Spicy Soup. If you like things VERY spicy, they can bring you some cut Thai peppers. The wait staff are patient are very helpful in guiding patrons. They understand that this is a new experience for them. They also pay attention to their customers eating habits. One time when I went in, they noticed that I added lots of chili peppers and chili oil to my food. That's when she said she could bring me some very hot fresh chili peppers. Charlotte is truly blessed to have so many great authentic Chinese body shops popping up all over town! I highly recommend this place! Cheers!

The broth had so much depth of flavor, honestly comparable to some I've had in Japan. We started with the pork gyoza, which were delivered quickly and were delicious. For our entrees, I had the Tonkotsu Black with added braised tofu, and my husband had the Spicy Tantan. I don't usually like eggs in my ramen (because they are never cooked enough), but Menya cooked theirs perfectly soft boiled, and I loved the flavor the egg added to the soup. Both soups had complex flavors, and we loved them. The tofu was great--thinly sliced and flavorful, if a bit salty--but I am not sure I'd need it again. My husband thought his soup was perfectly spicy. A note about parking - if you can park in the lot in front of the building, you scan a QR code, and open a parking time block. (I believe Menya paid for a 2-hour block.) You then enter the information on an iPad at the back of the restaurant to validate your parking and start the clock. It was easier than I expected, and I'd definitely use this parking service again. And if you can't get a spot in the lot in front of the building, you can park on the neighborhood streets just one or two blocks away. All told, it was a great meal for a reasonable cost. We'll definitely return!

This review is for Sun's Kitchen, tucked down near LoSo/Lower South End, and let me tell you --…read morethese dan dan noodles absolutely hit the spot. I was in one of those "I need noodles immediately" moods, and Sun's Kitchen did not disappoint. I called my order in for takeout, and everything was packed perfectly. No leaks, no mess, still hot when I got home, and the portion was surprisingly generous for the price. The dan dan noodles here are rich, savory, a little spicy, and incredibly comforting. If you're not familiar with them, dan dan noodles are a classic Sichuan street food dish from Chengdu traditionally tossed in a spicy, numbing ma-la sauce with pork, scallions, and pickled vegetables. Sun's Kitchen does a really delicious version that's flavorful without feeling too heavy. The noodles have that perfect chewy texture, and every bite has just enough heat to keep you going back for more. If you're someone who's curious about ethnic food but maybe unsure where to start, this is honestly a great entry-level dish. Yes, there's a little spice, but it's approachable and balanced. The dining room itself is modern and beautiful, and now that they serve beer and wine, I definitely need to come back and enjoy a full dine-in experience instead of rushing home with takeout. The only caveat is the parking lot can get a little chaotic since it's shared with neighboring businesses, especially during busy hours. But trust me, it's worth circling for a spot. Charlotte, there's a big wide world of food out there, and places like Sun's Kitchen make exploring it easy and delicious. Get out there and eat your way through it.
