I have been here a few times. Finally found a properly made General Tso's chicken. I'll be brief, since do agree with most positive reviews. For my first visit, I tried Curry Laksha. I didn't take any pictures it because it would be just a repeat of what's here already. Place island the food is as good as all 4 and 5 Stars record it. No need to repeat what's already been said, except that this place just jumped on a top of my list of Asian foods. There are at least half of a dozen other dishes I'd like to try, so I'll be coming back, until I find a place with different flavors to try. The General Tso's, Beef with Broccoli and Lo Mein dishes are all wonderful, and their pick-up service is speedy and convenient. Yum! We were searching through the available restaurants on DoorDash and happened upon Malaya Kitchen. Glad we chose it! We wanted to try a few different things (and be able to have leftovers... which we have plenty!). We started with wonton soup which was delicious. The broth was flavorful and it comes with 3 wontons which also packed a lot of flavor inside. We then had the roti canai, which is a dish we've never had before. The pancake tastes like a thinner naan. The sauce was thinner than I was expecting, but really excellent and has a good kick to it (more of an aftertaste). It comes with a lot of sauce, so we're saving it to add to a stir fry dish. We also tried the crab rangoon. The filling was creamy and sweet. Finally, I got the spicy garlic chicken (tons of perfectly cooked broccoli, sauce not as spicy as I was thinking it would be, not an overpowering garlic taste) and he got shrimp pad thai. I had almost given up hope for a good Chinese/Asian restaurant in Charlotte. We went to Malaya Saturday night for the first time and were amazed! The food was spectacular, "spicy" was the right amount of spicy and hot, each person's dish was totally different in taste -- none of that general brown sauce that other restaurants slather on all their dishes. This little strip mall spot was a big surprise. They were almost completely full but they got us seated quickly. They immediately offered us drinks and then appetizers. We ordered green tea to which our waitress continuously refilled hot water to keep it warm. The employees were all busy but friendly. The tom yum mee hoon soup was delicious - just the right amount of spiciness. I've never had a soup with chicken that tender in it. I teased hubby for ordering General Tso's chicken (how boring) but his was fantastic. Probably the best I've ever had. Tender chicken once again, perfectly crisped, perfect sweetness, and perfect crunch. My chicken curry was also so tender! I like the consistency of the sauce, but it did seem like it was missing something (maybe it just paled in comparison to the Tso's chicken). This is a really good find in the Arboretum! I have a gluten allergy and they are good about meeting my needs. I really enjoy the Satay and the Char Kway Teow. Beef & chicken are both yummy.
