I am getting married in a couple of weeks and I need help getting into wedding shape. My friend is a raving fan of Malaya and has been gushing about how wonderful M.J. is for over a year. I finally sucked it up, got over my fear and made a waxing appointment. And all I have to say is oh my. M.J. is every bit as wonderful as my friend made her sound. She was so patient and calm and walked me through my first session. I made it though like a pro! I was so impressed that I booked a session of 4 wraps with her. I just finished my 4th wrap and the compliments about my appearance are starting to roll in. The wraps are amazing, a beautiful side effect that I did not expect is the amount of energy I got after the wrap. It is so peaceful and relaxing that I usually sleep for the first 20 minutes. Andrina is very friendly and knowledgeable. She prepared my body wrap and explained every detail of the process. The wrap lasted 60 minutes which went by fairly quickly. During that time I relaxed and let the FIR system do its thing. I felt the difference right away when I put my pants on. My skin was smoother and I had more energy. Yesterday, I got the Yelp deal and had my very first Brazilian Wax. MJ did an excellent job of calming my nerves before and during the waxing. She used two different types of wax; a blue hard wax and a pink soft one. The studio is beautiful and clean without being sterile. They also hadgreat calm music playing. I love this place!!! I got a groupon for 5 infrared body wraps and I really didn't know what to expect. I booked my first appointment with Andrina and had such a great experience I stuck with her for the rest of the appointments. She was super helpful, she explained the entire process to me and kept checking in to see how I was doing. I loved the wraps I didn't see much weight loss results but I did feel detoxed. When you start each session they take your BMI before and after the session and I did see results there. The reason I had such a great time was because Andrina was such a wonderful instructor. She was funny, friendly and made me feel like I was relaxing with a friend. I really do recommend this place to anyone who wants excellent customer service. They all made me feel right at home. I really enjoyed by infrared body wrap. The staff was amazingly helpful and attentive; they explained everything clearly to me before the wrap began and told me what I should expect. They take you BMI before and after so you can see the actual results. They were right, the last 15 minutes are the toughest, but STICK IT OUT! My only complaint is that the infrared wraps are performed in a curtained off area of the main entrance/waiting area; it's not exactly a room so it gets really noisy. I didn't mind so much, but my sister was a bit irritated during the last 15 minutes of her wrap when she needed to "power through" the heat. The ladies are so friendly and kind that they have full, long conversations with their clients; just not conversations one would necessarily want to listen to while relaxing... MJ is great with the waxing. It was the first time I've ever had a wax and didn't break out afterwards. Amazing. Pacifica is not close to me (live in SF), but I drive there every weeks faithfully for an eyelash fill with MJ. The lashes she uses are thin and light - they look so delicate and pretty! And more natural than thicker ones, I think. I've also been asking around for ages trying to find someone to do lower lashes, which is standard in Japan, and MJ does! She did a beautiful job with mine and I am sooooo happy to finally have lower lash extensions again! Some aestheticians have told me you need to keep your eyes open for lower lash extensions and weird stuff like that, but you don't at all - MJ does it right!! She also likes to do fun creative stuff! She put a jewel on my eyelashes last time and it looked so pretty and stayed on well and I got tons of compliments on it! MJ herself is really warm and friendly. I hate to update good reviews, but I had a pretty crap experience over the weekend. Initially, I was under the impression that when you cancel/reschedule an appointment more than 24hrs in advance, the deposit would go back to your account and if you did it in less than 24hrs, you would get penalized. I asked if it would go back to my card and was informed that the deposits are actually for future use, but that they would reverse it back into my PayPal account this time. I didn't argue my misunderstanding, but I kept checking and never saw the deposit come back. I emailed to follow-up, and was told "it should be there", but it wasn't so I called PayPal to confirm and nothing still went through. I emailed again and actually never got a response, so I called the studio thinking, if the deposit never went through then I can still use it if I rescheduled the appointment. I noticed they had openings for the next day and I wanted to take my mom for Mother's Day. But when you make an appointment online, it will still charge you the deposit and I didn't want that to happen again considering my first deposit was technically still with the salon. So I tried calling and finally spoke with someone and when I mentioned my credit mishap, she spoke with the owner and said to just come and not pay online. I went in and asked about using my credit and the lady at the front explained that it was reversed back and showed me the PayPal transaction, but the email listed was not mine - so it went to someone else. I wasn't that upset about it because I obviously messed up not knowing about the deposits not being refundable, but I didn't appreciate their "thoroughness". My original deposit was $42.50, and they were only going to credit me $37 or so because of the credit card transaction fee..?? This confused and upset me because they credited the wrong client. To me, they never got knocked with a $5 transaction fee because of me, but because of their careless mistake to reverse my deposit to someone else. My mom and I never knew the name of the person that did our facials. She never introduced herself. I also felt that my mom's appointment was shorter than expected. We both had one-hour facials and she was in-and-out in 50mins, so I thought, no big deal. Because of that I timed mine. I was in-and-out in 40mins. I might as well had done a 30mins facial. Prior to the appointment and even while we were there, I did not tell my mom what happened with the deposit. But when we left, my mom was upset because everyone else that finished with their services before us and checked out were asked if they wanted to make their next appointment. She said it made her feel unwelcome. Oh and the person I had been emailing and who reversed the deposit back to the wrong PayPal was there the whole time and didn't bother to acknowledge me. So if your business lost $5 in the process of crediting back a deposit, I do apologize for the huge inconvenience and my misunderstanding, but it's no longer worth driving to Pacifica from the city. read more

MJ is THE BEST at what she does....whether it be waxing or a facial - she is thorough, professional, and just an all-around great person. She poured her soul into her new studio and the finished result (that will probably always be a work in progress for her) shines. I saw Menalynne for a 9:30am appt (nothing like getting your pubes ripped out to say "Good morning!") and I was in and out in 15 mins including change time. Howwwww? I was almost sure I'd be in there for at least 20 mins considering it was Fern Gully down there. I absolutely love this place. I fell in love with the work of Tamara. I first went to see her last October, 2 days before my wedding. I fell in love with the lashes. Perfect and natural look. My new spa! I love this place! I have been to several places to get wraps and facials done - but this place is hands down the best I've ever been to. I tried the body wrap first - just to see what it was like. I was hooked! I bought a package and have really enjoyed going. My facial was amazing. I met with MJ. I've had some trouble with my skin even though I have been going to someone else on a regular basis (every 4-6 weeks).
