Nothing but issues with the b vent gas fireplace I was shipped. Installed in November and nothing has gone smoothly. Pilot won't light consistently so they tell me it's the switch which they send a replacement of and that doesn't work. The switch appeared to have already been used or tampered with. Pilot finally is lit but won't stay on since sometime just by clicking the remote or receiver to on position, that turns the pilot off. Then they tell me it's the remote, so I pay out of pocket for a whole new system that I have to buy on Amazon for $77. I'm sent a remote/receiver system that is incompatible with the one they installed. Now I'm about to try replacing the thermocouple. And it goes on and on with a $5k fireplace that is still not as of yet working smoothly and I'm having to pay out of pocket to fix it. read more

I purchased a 34 " Zircon for a new construction. I put it on a covered back porch. I followed the instructions to the letter and, when I was able to set my first real fire the coating on the unit bubbled and peeled off with hot, flying paint (or whatever it is) moving off the unit. I called the following day and was told to send photos and someone would get back. I sent them and no one did. I waited 2 months bc of the holidays and called again. My correspondence had been misplaced. I sent photos again and was curtly told my unit should not be on a porch. PLEASE NOTE: nowhere on the product site or information is this mentioned. Regardless, my true concern was the coating that peeled on the first fire. After having to ask for assistance again, I was told to sand it down and paint it with a fire-proof paint (no further information). I was also informed (unsolicited) that "Regardless of what it says or doesn't say, our units are designed for indoor use. The 1 year warranty does not cover rust from outdoor use" I am really surprised at the defensive nature of the communications I received. I only wanted to know why my unit was peeling and flaking hot lava coating (then rusting bc of no coating). If this had been inside, it would have cause damage or harm to someone. Malm Fireplace Manager, Pete Orrfelt has been consumately helpful in consultation around measurement, spec sheet, installation and fitting of an LED electric fireplace at my home. Funny thing is that I almost gave up on purchasing this electric fireplace because of my misinterpretation of how the power source/electrical set up woud need to take place, which would have cost me more money. I'm happy I told Pete about the issue, because he spoke with my electrician and communicated that I did not need the extra outlet and expensive wiring pulled to take place. --- The moral of the story is that consultative sales is the way to go when it comes to helping customers, and Pete gives that by coaching his customers throughout. We wanted to swap out the double glass doors on our double-sided fireplace for two sets of folding doors. The people at Malm referred us to Dan Dickman, who also works at Malm, to see if he could help us. Dan was incredibly professional and meticulous in replacing both sets of doors with folding doors which he acquired, painted the inside of our fireplace, replaced the gas burners and the grate, refurbished the gas logs, and installed new embers and stones on the bottom of the fireplace. Thanks to Dan, our 35 year old fireplace looks like brand new. It is absolutely beautiful. We have done business with Malm in the past and consistently find the entire staff to be extremely knowledgeable and professional. read more

The fireplace unit I purchased from Malm is defective (blower doesn't come on). They won't fix it. The installer they use (Mike Roth) left me with a non-functioning, dangerous unit. It's unusable. The heat build-up is so great it scorched the surround and caused it to crack in multiple places. The fireplace was installed on a piece of scrap material sitting on top of loose bricks which rested on a narrow ledge.  Nothing was fastened down.  More than half of the adjusting adjusting feet were hanging in mid air. Photos are worth 1000 words. See those below. Malm manager Pete insists there is nothing wrong with this installation, and there is no safety hazard! This is a cut and paste from one of manager Pete's emails: "I still haven't seen what Mike did wrong. Only obscure pictures... Mike is a professional who has installed THOUSANDS of fireplaces and inserts. He does good work. You were never "at risk". You never had a fire hazard. You have no data to support your claims." I invited Pete to come to my house and see the installation for himself if he found my photos "obscure". He declined. Take a look at my photos and see if you find them "obscure". Beware! read more

I broke the glass in my in-laws woodstove with a log that was just hair too long! It was during that super cold smell in March and it needed to be replaced right away all the other glass companies in Santa Rosa told me it would be a week or two and it was gonna be over $200 which was not gonna work! We called Malm and showed up at 9:30 in the morning and they cut the piece of glass for me right then and there and it was 100 bucks, saved the day custom sized! During a vacation at the Russian River I had a small problem with the wood burner in our rental house... I say I had a small problem but, what I mean is that I broke the glass in the door. This meant we couldn't use the fireplace and that we would likely get a hefty bill from the rental agency - not the way we wanted to end our otherwise wonderful vacation. After an extensive Google search and a check with the folks at the hardware store in Occidental I made my way to Malm in Santa Rosa. I arrived shortly after they opened at 8:30 and was greeted by Pete and his crew. They took one look at the door and the broken glass and told me they could help. As I had nothing else to do locally Pete suggested I hang out while the door was repaired. Pete and everyone I spoke to at Malm were amazing. My repair job obviously wasn't going to bring in big bucks for the store but I was treated no different than if I were purchasing their most expensive fireplace. Absolutely brilliant customer service - I am highly cynical of the reviews here that claim otherwise... while everyone can have an off day I would say that your approach can often dictate the response you receive. I could go on and on about how well I was treated by Pete and the crew at Malm but, I have made my point. I arrived back at our rental by 10:15 a.m. with a repaired door... in fact, not only is it repaired it is now better than it was before with new glass and door gaskets - we can now enjoy a properly functioning wood burner. Unfortunately I won't be able to get any credit from the rental agency as that would involve fessing up to the broken door! TL/DR Pete and the crew at Malm are awesome! read more

When we lived in the Central Valley of California, we heated our home with a wood-burning Lopi wood stove; a lot of people did and still do. The Central Valley is a place where wood is abundant and so it makes sense. When we moved to Santa Rosa, we purchased a new home with a zero-clearance fireplace which meant that we could burn wood in it, but we certainly couldn't depend on it to heat our home. For the first ten years, we had nightly fires in the fireplace, roughly from about Halloween Eve until the first part of April. They were crackling fires, romantic in scope and mesmerizing for our kitties, BUT, very inefficient, smoke spouting, and frankly, DANGEROUS. Last summer, we decided to replace our zero clearance fireplace with a gas insert. We had thought about it before, but the "look" and "ambience" of a real fire had not been perfected in the gas fireplace niche market. Last year, we saw some gas fireplace inserts with convincing flames and embers, and decided to investigate. We took three weeks of going to various fireplace insert stores, all of which were located in Santa Rosa. We had in our mind what we wanted, we knew it was out there someplace, and we wouldn't being swayed into buying something we didn't like. Malm Fireplace Center was our sixth stop and the moment we began looking at their quality offerings, we knew that Malm was the place from where we would buy our new insert. Our sales person was friendly and knowledgeable. Although price was certainly a criterion, it was third in importance to efficiency which was our priority and ambient reality which was our second. While other fireplace centers advertised reasonable prices, it was not until we started talking the nitty gritty that we realized that the cost of installation was an "over and above" cost. Not so with Malm. The price you are quoted is the price you pay. We chose our unit and it was ordered, received, delivered and installed in under two weeks. When our original chimney duct work was removed to make way for the new, we were shocked. It had two inches of soot buildup on the inside walls and was a flue fire waiting to happen! It was a tragedy in the making. We are so grateful that we made the switch before the inevitable. The installers arrived on time, layed down protective drop cloths, and completely cleaned and vacuumed before leaving. The only extra option we purchased was a wall mounted thermostat so that the insert could automatically turn off and on. Well, when the fireplace insert was installed ... WE TURNED OFF THE FURNACE. All last winter we were toasty warm in the main part of the living room, dining room and kitchen, and our bedrooms were a cool and refreshing place to sleep. It was wonderful! And if that weren't enough, our gas consumption went down as well. A new winter is upon us and on this chilly, rainy day, we are sitting in our easy chairs, in front of our Malm installed gas fireplace insert, as it's soothing flames chase the chill away. read more

I bought fireplace insert from Malm's about 25 years ago. Recently one of the logs with the gas pipe in it failed. With log in hand I went back to Malm's to see if I could get a replacement. Turns out the model I bought all those years ago is no longer available and there are no replacemnt parts for my model. However, Ken found the updated version of my fireplace on the showroom floor. We were able to compare my log to a replacement log he had of the newer model and it was a perfect match!! And, to my surprise he gave it to me at no cost. read more

DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT FROM THIS LOCATION. This is less than great as we purchased a Malm Fireplace on 9/23 and have yet to receive the product. They quote you a 12-week lead time but once you've reached that point you get those comforting words "We Don't Guarantee 12 weeks". Ok I get that...I've worked for a high-end manufacturer (Herman Miller) for 12 years and things happen. However, we are now on week 20 and still no product. This is going to our vacation home and we had a contractor lined up but now we have to source someone else because the time to secure the installation has lapsed. Jeff the salesperson - too busy to talk or respond to several calls I made back in December. Sandy - She's nice and I think she's in accounting, but she does all the legwork to try and cover for all the poor service. Pete (Sales Manager)- is actually a great guy the reason I received any traction on this. When Jeff didn't respond for over a month, I reached out and got Pete. He literally walked over to Jeff to make sure he received my messages. Jeff was in fact still too busy to follow up. So overall this is how poor customer service works, but Pete I thank you for being exceptional. read more

This place is great. My 15 year old pellet stove's firebox burned through. Discovering your igniter lying in your ash box on a cold rainy January evening is not a fun thing. Trust me. I searched the web for the part number I found in the owner's manual, but the matches I came with pointed me to a whole different model of pellet stove. I gave Malm a call as soon as they opened. Not only did they point me in the right direction with the part, but they had it in stock for less than I had seen it online. Don't order from here unless you know exactly what you are getting! Customer service is not just horrible..it's non-existent! I spoke with Keith several times prior to making a purchase. After 3 times not returning my calls, I decided to order from a dealer..thinking I would have better luck. After over 3 months, the Zircon 34 electric shows up. The electric logs provide no heat and I was told they would have at least 5000BTU (by Keith) I contacted the dealer. They told me to call Keith at Malm. I knew I would get no where! Sure enough! He totally drops the ball and won't return my or dealers phone calls! Totally unacceptable when you are paying $3500 and up for a fireplace! It's not that hard to make a customer happy! They spent hours with me on trying to get the best fire pit and sure enough helped me picked the best one to fit my needs. It turned out great and I would recommend them to anyone. The folks at MALM are knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. They are also affordable -- we were worried we'd have to replace our whole fireplace, and was asked them for their advice. They could have tried to sell us a fireplace, but instead they charged us almost nothing to fix our fireplace door, even coming out to the house for a second time to be sure it fit right (no extra charge). Where do I begin? From being sold an outdated defective unit that was represented as being new to two botched installations by service people recommended by Malm, our experience in purchasing a gas stove from Malm Fireplace Center was a TOTAL Disaster. The unit was for a rental home we have on the coast and to date, we are out thousands in repair bills, lost rental income, and multiple trips to try and get this stove working. Final straw was paying $1500 yesterday to a service repair person to once again try and get this lemon of a gas insert functioning. This has been going on for over a year. We have turned to Malm Fireplace again and again but they are not standing behind their product. In 12/20 I purchased a Quadrafire classic bay 1200 pellet stove $3000 stove has been a problem since I purchased it. Stove would either quit dropping pellets or it would drop them and not ignite after months of fighting to keep the stove working I called malm they gave me a number of their repairman he sort of fixed it worked for a couple of hours then was blowing fuses. Repairman was here a little over an hour he charged $350 part was covered under warranty nice rated $350 an hour I had to get fuses I took stove apart where repairman worked moved the wires around and it seems to work for a month but again it was a problem as it would stay lit My last conversation with Pete at malm he wanted me to take the stove out and bring it to their store so they could check the operation of the stove. First I'm 70years old second these stoves are heavy I'd have to hire someone to get it in my truck My opinion if I have to move it out I'd rather just buy one that works and not a Quadrafire read more

Ordered the fireplace on January 3rd from Dan for $3,888.90. They said they would send an installer for a site precheck to be sure this would be the right fit. After a month (2/1) I called because they had not yet sent the installer to check to be sure they had ordered the correct one. They discovered the fireplace had come in and was sitting in the back storeroom... The installer comes and does a precheck on2/7 and says he will have to make an additional base for a better fit, this will be in addition to the regular install fee. Okay.... The installers come on 2/15 and $888 later for the install I have a fireplace installed that is missing parts because Malm didn't order them or check to make sure the parts were complete. So I call Malm and they have to order the part. Now it's on back order. It is now March to 18th and I have called a few times for updates but I'm going to give them a call again since I haven heard anything yet. The man on the phone has the audacity to say " people buy them all the time without that part and they look fine"! I can't believe he has just said this to me. I have a 3.5" gap at the top between the gas insert and my fireplace. It looks rediculous and I have no idea when they will finish it. I had another house I was going to install an insert in, thank god I decided to test the waters because Malm will not be installing another one for me or for anyone I know! read more
