I just purchased a home a few months ago, and the inspection report didn't include much of a fireplace/chimney inspection. It's been a cold winter and we have been dying to use our fireplace, but wanted to have it looked at to make sure it was safe to use as it's an older home. Jeff Witten showed up promptly and returned a quote for the proposed work. But he asked for over $8k as a down payment (illegal in CA), then more to purchase materials (legal), and the quote was not specific about what would be done. It turns out that he was farming the work out to a subcontractor and adding nearly 50% to the subcontractor's bid. read more

I contacted Witten's about having the top 5 feet of my brick chimney rebuilt. Jeff Witten arrived on time to quote the job and produced written estimates on differing levels of repair options. When I had more detailed questions about one of the options, they sent out their Masonry expert for an additional consult and to finalize details. After contracting with them, they got to work quicker than I would have imagined and completed it within the exact timeframe they'd estimated. They maintained a super clean jobsite and were sensitive to parking issues on a tight street. The chimney is like new again and their team went above and beyond to ensure that flashing was reattached as best as possible until it could be replaced by a roofing contractor. Jeff responded quickly with a bid to remove our fireplace to which I accepted. His worker came to the house to look at the project and agreed to begin the following morning. Thirty minutes later Jeff called to tell me that they were not going to do the job and gave no real explanation. I had already told two other contractors that the job was filled. We have done a fair amount of remodeling over the years and this situation was misleading and frankly, dishonest. As for the bid, he wanted $3,500. I got the same work done for $700. read more

We just had our chimney cleaned by Witten's. The service Techs (Jermaine & Dominic) were efficient, neat and quick. They were also very pleasant. It's not often fun having service people come in to your home but these young men were so courteous and kind! I can't recommend them enough. About a year ago, I had my chimney inspected and had some repairs performed on the mortar, with a custom chimney cap installed. Jeff Witten provided excellent service and provided me a lot of options of repairs I could have performed, but also gave me great insight on the urgency & importance of the various repair options he quoted me. This really helped me assess the amount of repair work to have performed on my fireplace. My fireplace is over 100 years old, so when I purchased my home a year ago, I wanted to make sure I could operate the fireplace. Jeff did an inspection and confirmed that my old fireplace was still in great working condition! I am so grateful to Jeff Witten and his wonderful family run business for their great help last year. Excellent service. The task was scheduled exceptionally well. Fit my schedule perfectly. The work crew was on time; they were careful and very organized. They went right to work at 9:00am and worked on my two chimneys right through lunch. They cleaned-up perfectly and and didn't leave one grain of soot. This company sent a representative to my home on Thursday, September 30, 2021 after canceling on Wednesday, September 29, 2021 unexpectedly. They cleaned the fire box, I think and left me with an incomplete report of the Fire Box. The report was less than half way filled out and many facts in information on the report was incorrect. They never sent me promised photos or recommendations of the dangerous fireplace that they suggested that they saw on the appointment. The service tech refused to look at the exterior chimney. This company never responded to my calls, requests for proposal for repairs and full report. This information is factual.
