She was very knowledgeable and helpful when discussing the buzzing problem I was having with my fireplace. Unfortunately they were so backed up with other customers, the earliest appointment they could make for me was 6 weeks out. (That's probably a good sign of the quality of work they do.) In any case, I ended up ordering a replacement part for my gas fireplace and installing it myself. I finally got a call from Cheleste on Sunday, 3 days after my initial call. They were out of town. Their helper moved out of state so Daniel is working by himself now. The earliest appointment offered was in December. I declined because I found another company (Green Fireplace Solutions, a company I had used previously on another project with good satisfaction) and was able to get a repair appointment for Nov. 15. The last time I used Safe & Warm they did a good job, but it seems now that Daniel & Cheleste are so busy that it takes a long time to get a repair or service appointment. That just does not work for me because I do not want to wait over a month for an appointment to repair my fireplace insert. I wish them well but do not plan to call them again. read more

Not sure why I have never gotten around to writing a review - we have used Safe & Warm for years! You will not find nicer people than Daniel, Cheleste and their fabulous crew. Had been without our gas fireplace for the season after Daniel valiantly tried to save our old unit. We decided to not only replace it but also install an insert into our old wood-burning fireplace. Called Cheleste and got a great deal on two units! However, the fireplace was not going to fit our corner installation. I thought I was going to have to install a much smaller unit, but Daniel went above and beyond to find me a fireplace that was just as large an opening as the old one, put out plenty of heat, would fit my space and is amazingly beautiful to boot! I recently had some repair work done by Safe and Warm, and now wish I had called them sooner! I had been observing some sooting in my gas fireplace and tried all the usual, checking the vent for obstructions, adjusting the mixture etc. It did not help so we stopped using the unit for a season, which we really did miss. I had to admit to myself that I was not going to fix it and called Safe and Warm. Josh came out and found a combination of things, spider webs in gas jet and a vent pipe that would allow intake to mix with exhaust. I would have never found these multiple issues. I had a years-old problem with our gas fireplace. Another company had come out before, charged $240 for a cleaning that did not fix the issue we were having. I've been reluctant to try again, so the fireplace has been unused for about a year. As temps started to drop this season, I began asking around for other repair options. Safe & Warm was recommended by the store we bought the unit ("Blaze" in SR). Safe & Warm sent a service tech (Jason) out and he did the same thing the first company had, cleaning the fireplace, but not solving the problem. He left saying he needed to order a part. We paid for the cleaning and, honestly, I was convinced we would not hear back. After a few days, I called and left a message that was not immediately returned. I left another message the next day, still no immediate response. I followed up one last time, sure that it was a repeat of my earlier experience -- but Sheleste answered this time. She told me she was waiting on details from Jason who had already ordered the part and I was on her list of followups during a very busy time. She scheduled the new appointment and followed up the night before to confirm. Jason showed up on time, with the new part, and on a cold, rainy November day, took the fireplace apart and rebuilt it. It started up perfectly. It has been almost two days since the repair and the fireplace looks and behaves better than it did when originally installed. Were there a few hiccups along the way to this success? Yes. That minor communication lag was the only issue tho. Where it mattered, these folks were on it. He or one of his assistants has been back several times to service it and has been prompt and efficient each time. Had my old log burning fire place replaced with a new gas powered one. I must say the professionalism by this company was top notch. Called the office and i talked to a sweet lady that was able to answer all of my questions. Set up an appointment and was told it was the busy season and had to wait about a week or two i forget, but thats understandable. Very courteous when they arrived and insisted that he take off their shoes each time they came in the house. Our gas fireplace was installed by Safe & Warm a few months ago. We later discovered that the fan in the unit wasn't functioning. Daniel and his team came out more than once - diagnosed that the issue was in the electrical work (done by our shoddy electrician). And Daniel fixed the issue and replaced the switch at no charge. I have used this company for years. They put in two gas fireplaces in my former home and serviced both. I have since moved and the fireplace in my new home is one of the old ones which you have to turn on the gas and lit at the same time. As I am getting older that was a hassle. I asked Daniel if he could change this so I could use a handheld electric thing to lit my fire place. I had found out that some owners in the condo building had that done. Daniel said that he could do this and I asked him twice if I would get the same heat output as before. He assured me that I would. Well, it didn't put out any heat and Chesleste told me later that these fire inserts were only for show and wouldn't give out heat. Obviously, I wanted my old insert back, but Daniel told me that he had thrown that away and apparently he couldn't get another. I finally found another owner in the building who weren't interested in the heat and was willing to give me her old insert and take mine. David made the change and gave me $500 back and said that was the best he could do. I had paid him about $1,300. After installing this insert, he couldn't get any heat out of that one either. I told him that the logs were not placed correctly, but he disagreed. I later had the logs put properly and the heat came back. I would like to have the rest of the money back, but instead I got an email from Cheleste telling me that as I had fooled around with the logs, they were not responsible for whatever happened, such as gas leaks . They really blundered the whole thing and I certainly wouldn't use them or recommend them. I was promised that it would work and it certainly didn't. Elisabeth Stromberg Baker read more

Daniel came out to give me a bid to install a new freestanding gas fireplace. Unfortunately, since my roof is a 4 in 12 pitch making the attic fairly shallow, he would not do the install. I suggested that he could cut the hole for the vent pipe from the exterior side of the roof rather than doing it from the attic, but he would not do that. He explained that since the ceiling in the room where I want the gas stove is wood, it was too risky a job because, if he makes a wrong cut, he cannot repair it easily. I recently had a vent hood installed in the same area and the installer cut from the roof side and then through the ceiling with no problem -- but I guess that installer had more experience. read more

I recently was looking for someone to fix my gas fireplace because it was not working. I called Safe & Warm Chimney and they were able to make an appointment for the next day. Jake called ahead and arrived before he thought he would. Upon inspecting the fireplace he was able to resolve our issue. He also discovered that the person that had installed the fire place had placed the logs in wrong along with the glass door. Jake was very professional and answered all my questions. After calling two other vendors (who flaked), I found Safe and Warm. I should call the flaky vendors and thank them because these guys are GREAT! Had my 13 year old free standing gas stove removed to put in new flooring and needed to have a professional re-install it because I had three issues that needed to be addressed (a roof leak at the vent, sticky goo running down the vent inside the house and strange red glops at the junction of the vent and the ceiling). Josh came, inspected the system, and knew exactly what was wrong and knew exactly how to fix it. Seriously, he gave me explanations for each of the issues in a way that let me know he KNEW his stuff. They scheduled me for the work then had to change the day ... but they changed it to EARLIER. My stove is re-installed and it looks brand new. They cleaned the pieces before installing and solved all three of my problems in a quick and professional manner. Their pricing is reasonable and I couldn't be happier.
