I'm writing this review hoping you guys bring the matcha back to how it used to be! I've been going to Malou for about a year and a half, and I always used to order the Okinawa Cold Foam Matcha. Honestly, in my opinion, your matcha was #1 in LA! But for the past 2 months, the matcha and the foam have tasted much lighter. The flavor has definitely changed, and I also feel like the cup got a little bigger. Even though it's $8.50, I would honestly rather have a smaller cup with amazing flavor than a bigger cup that doesn't taste as good. I'm going to post an old photo and a recent photo so you can see the difference in both the color of the matcha and the size of the cup. Please bring the matcha back to how it used to be and don't change the quality of your ingredients! It used to be SO good. We miss the old Okinawa Cold Foam Matcha! Please bring it back!
Great place to sit on the patio, enjoy some Brentwood breeze, and settle in with a cute and just deep-enough menu to keep you excited. I found a table pretty easily, and ordered from there via QR code. Ngl, the tables can be a little uncomfortable because of the angular metal nature of them. You can nestle in there pretty easily, but one wrong move, and ouch! I really enjoyed the Breakfast Burrito. Definitely original and inspired: Scrambled Egg, Avocado, Pinto Beans, Sour Cream, Pico De Gallo, Cheddar Cheese, Tater Tots & Jalapeno Paste on a Flour Tortilla. A handful of Tater Tots arrive with as well as Cilantro sauce on the side. This burrito is pretty peppy -- and even intense in flavor. I liked it a lot, but actually had to take a break between halves as a result. My companion had the Golden Morning Brioche (Scrambled Egg, Avocado, Caramelized Onion, Arugula, Cheddar Cheese & Chipotle Sauce on a Brioche Bun) and enjoyed that. She also really enjoyed her drink, the Okinawa Cold Foam. I liked my coffee, and later, an espresso over ice. Fun vibe, and lots of other choices, including their bakery goods. Definitely recommend. Street parking, but be careful -- it's pretty tight on Barrington.
At first I was mad at myself for forking up $19 on a fried chicken sando . How did we get here, la? Surprisingly though, it was a very special sandwich. It had some really great well balanced sauces throughout, I actually wanted more of the sauce, but was afraid to ask. It came with a salad that had some pickled onions, and again, a really great refreshing well thought out dressing. I can't really complain. Actually yes I can, the flies!!! As soon as I took the sandwich out the huge flies would not leave it alone. Be aware. I found free street parking pretty easy on a side street. I thought I'd come here to read but they are kinda blasting the music so maybe it's not the best environment for that. Too much noise. I did not like the butterscotch latte. It was kind of weak, in my opinion. Thank goodness they let me exchange it for the Okinawa cold foam matcha drink, which was amazing. I think it's unique and cool to have a cold foam Okinawa flavor. They actually don't sweeten the matcha at all under the cold foam, so that was interesting. I might have to add sugar to it. Overall, everything was good, I just wouldn't order espresso lattes here.
Had this coffee shop on my list for a while, and I finally got a chance to check it out! The space is cute, with a small patio and a few sidewalk tables for enjoying your drinks outside. I ordered one of their signature drinks, the Okinawa Cold Foam, which is a matcha latte topped with an Okinawa brown sugar cream foam. I got mine with light foam to cut down on the sweetness a bit. The foam was delicious, super unique, and paired well with the matcha. However, the matcha itself was just okay and was a little too milky for my taste. Parking: street and neighborhood parking.
We got so lucky with parking!!! Someone left right when we came, and we could park right in front of the cafe on the street. Street parking is hard hard to find. :-( Came on a Saturday around 10:30 AM and it was PACKED, but the line moved surprisingly fast and we only waited around 10 minutes. We got the Matcha Maple Top and Okinawa Cold Foam Matcha. I was honestly really disappointed because I had heard great reviews!! The matcha was way too milky for my liking and lacked that strong matcha flavor I usually look for.... The Maple Top especially barely tasted like matcha at all. Matcha flavor got lost from the maple... The Okinawa Cold Foam was slightly better, but still not strong enough. If you like sweeter, milkier matchas this might be your thing, but I personally prefer a stronger matcha-forward drink. For around $8 a matcha, I expected a lot more. Unfortunately I don't think I'd come back.
I decided to try Malou because it was within walking distance of my friend's apartment and appeared to have enough seating for me to get some work done. Ordering was quick, and I didn't have to wait. I ordered a drip coffee and a pastry (I can't remember the name). Unfortunately, the coffee wasn't to my taste. It had a noticeably sour flavor, whereas I prefer coffee with a richer, roasted bean aroma and taste. The pastry, however, was excellent--fresh, flaky, and definitely the highlight of my visit. I initially found a table on the sidewalk, but the Wi-Fi signal was very weak there. I then moved inside and found a table with bench seating. While the space looked inviting, the seating wasn't very comfortable for working on a laptop for an extended period. Overall, the pastry was enjoyable, but the coffee and workspace setup didn't quite meet my expectations.
Busy little coffee shop, however, service is pretty quick and very friendly. The coffee was delicious! Parking is a little hectic.
This was my first time trying their breakfast! I had tried their coffee before and really loved it, so I was excited to come back. This time, I ordered the egg sandwich, and honestly, it was the best egg sandwich I've ever had! The portion was huge compared to other places, and everything was absolutely delicious. I really enjoyed both the sandwich and the coffee.
average price in LA, carrot cake latte was good. a 15-20 min wait on a sunday morning. service wasn't particularly friendly but that's how it is with LA coffee shops! love that they have unique/seasonal flavors
Got to this place around 9:30am today and it was still pretty empty I suppose since it was early in the morning and a weekday, so luckily I didn't have to wait in a line. I got the matcha colada and it was super good and tastes literally like one they nailed it with that drink. The super nice man who attended me, greeted me and ended up giving me a free pastry on the house. Would definitely come again and they even have outside seating if you are a student and want to catch up on some work.
Cool, fun spot! Two of us ordered: iced americano $4.85 iced matcha latte $7.95 ($1 upcharge for oatmilk) Parked in the back. Cool space with outdoor seating.
The coffee and Matcha here is phenomenal! I have been so obsessed with their Brazilian Matcha lemonade that I went there every day for the last week they were serving it! I would love for them to bring it back as a permanent menu addition and I would come here all the time! Service is wonderful, they are so friendly and hard-working here. They have a bit of outside seating and parking is either metered or residential. Prices are fair, considering the quality they serve, great option if you are looking for coffee or Matcha in the area, highly recommended!
I ordered the butterscotch latte and it was just ok. The person who was taking my order was very nice and helpful. It was my first time here and I was between two. Maybe, I didn't choose wisely. There were a bunch of people here on a Sunday afternoon. There was one party before me ordering and a few minutes later, a line formed very quickly behind me. I found parking on the street and walked, but I did have to circle once or twice.

Came right when they opened on a Sunday morning, no line and fast service. The ambiance was nice; cozy and minimalistic. No parking except for street parking ($2/hour). I got 4 crafted drinks plus a bottled juice that they serve from juice crafters. My total ended up being $39.30. The plastic cups are fairly small (~$7 for regular iced matcha, ~$9 for the okinawa cream top matcha, and ~$7 for the espresso cold foam). I would say that their cups are small for their price and flimsy when trying to put the lids on. Their matcha (from uji, Japan) and coffee are really strong which is nice, but there is an up charge for milk substitution. They have hot plates but their kitchen doesn't open until an hour after opening. They do serve pastries but only a small variety. They also have merch, coffee bags, and information guides on what matcha and coffee they use. In my opinion, I most likely won't be back just cause I prefer to get a bang for my buck but it's still a nice place to try their unique drinks. read more

This is legit coffee. And the food is low key the best in Brentwood. Ordered my flat white with almond milk and it was smooth and creamy. Croissant was ultra flaky. Loved the modern Japanese design and the vibe. Got my drink in about 3 minutes at 10am, so service was on point too. I also ordered the breakfast brioche which was insane. Apparently they have a Michelin star chef so the food is the best I've had at a coffee shop. Highly recommend. Some of the lower reviews seem like they were given when the place first opened and still trying to figure it out. Seems like they worked out all the kinks. read more

Malou has officially become our new favorite "coffee o'clock" spot! My lady and I typically come around 4:30/5pm (they close at 5:30 which we appreciate), and the vibe is absolutely lovely--plenty of seating, shaded area and just off San Vicente. I really enjoy the double espresso on ice with oat milk on the side and my partner loves the matcha. On another note, they also offer smaller sized cups (another thing I appreciate), I believe 9 ounces which I enjoy because I like the smaller amount of liquid. Everyone who works at Malou is very sweet, we recently met Isabella who always has warm energy and provides great service. Thank you! read more

Malou is a cute spot to have coffee with a friend. They can be busy but I've always found ample seating. I've tried their lattes, espresso tonics, matcha, and matcha tonics, and I come here for their espresso tonics! Their seasonal espresso tonics are done well! They had a Cara Cara Orange Tonic and a pineapple yuzu tonic and they were both delicious. If you like matcha tonics I 100% recommend subbing the sparkling water for tonic water in their Matcha Yuzu Tokyo. Parking can be a challenge. read more

This was my first time at Malou Coffee (from TikTok), and I had the matcha brown sugar it was very delicious! I liked how fast and friendly they were, but the lady at the register seemed a little upset. She could have been a bit more welcoming. read more
One of the cutest, vibey-est, coffee shop in LA! Okinawa cold foam was so yummy. The tables and chairs are super cute. Their sandos next door look really cute and yummy as well! Too bad I was too full to try, but will definitely come back for it. More importantly, their bathroom, gosh, SO FANCY. When I first learned that it's in the back I was a bit nervous...since toilets in the back are usually kind of ahem...dirty. BUT theirs is just as nice as the coffee shop itself. Big matcha lover here, I explore new cafes every weekend. Biggest disappointment, by far the worst matcha I have ever had, tastes very low quality. The Okinawa cold foam on top tasted great but the matcha was terrible and I kept sucking up chunks from the bottom. Spitting out and/or chewing chunks while sipping on a latte was not what I signed up for. I was super excited for the Date Cardamom latte, also very underwhelming, aromatic but flavor was not all there. $20 with tip, not worth it, I'd rather go to Starbucks You're better off going to Alfred's coffee down the street or any cafe in Ktown. read more

came with my daughter today for a matcha drink and breakfast. The matcha was not bad at all, but the breakfast was something awful, especially the breakfast burrito. the okinawa matcha was decent! the drink overall was not sweetened that much, but i honestly liked it that way. not my favorite matcha place in LA but its better than a lot of places. workers were nice & the ambiance was super cute! minimal seating but when i went (Sunday afternoon) i was able to grab a spot! there were quite a lot of people there but they mostly just did grab and go. come here on a sunny day! there was free parking in the back which was really convenient. i would come here again! read more

My friend and I decided to try this place since we were in the area and it was really good! The cold foam adds a unique flavor to the matcha and they both weren't too sweet. The staff were super friendly and the man helping us order was super friendly and explained what each drink had. He also gave us a free matcha scone to try and it was delicious :) I'll definitely be back! read more

I saw these girls w GOOD LOOKING matchas and I HAD to ask where they went and they told me about Malou and how they were having a soft opening. I was originally going to go to Amai, but I was too hooked on those girls' matchas and it was INSANELY good! They sift their matcha and they use a bamboo whisk(but it's all premade so you don't see, which is ok. I know it would be too hectic to go through the whole process thousands of times a day)! Ordered a regular cappuccino, waited 15 minutes and ended up with what tastes like a cup of coffee with a little bit of milk poured in (not steamed, no foam.) I was standing close enough to the baristas to hear them struggling to figure out the machine. I feel bad for the under-trained and under-staffed employees but... I would advise others to avoid this instagram trap. read more

pretty good! got the okinawa matcha and the flavor was a bit subtle but nicely sweetened with the cream on top! my sister got their hojicha latte which was super good!! the man who helped us order was also very nice and friendly he gave us a strawberry matcha to try and it was tasty! i would say the strawberry flavor overpowered the matcha a bit but the drink was still very nice and sweet! read more
