We make it a point to stop here on our drive down to FL. This spot is tucked away behind a gas station and a fast food joint and I bet they're honored to have these smokers in their vicinity. Always had great meals here. I recommend the smoked chicken and rice for a smaller appetite and a jumbo pulled pork sandwich (with the hot sauce) for a larger one. Yum. Nicely done, folks. read more

3 Stars for what is surely the best choice for rest stop food! This is a tiny spot that includes a small shack where you order your food and about 5 picnic tables (some with coverings). I got the Pulled Pork Platter which comes with rice and two sides- I went with the baked beans and coleslaw ($8.50). I asked for it with sweet BBQ sauce since it usually comes with their regular medium hot sauce. The flavors were rich and deep, with lots of smokiness and tangy sweetness. I particularly enjoyed the baked beans, whose flavor made clear that it was homemade. The one thing I wasn't too fond of was the rice. It's served directly under the pork and was very mushy and overcooked. I think it'd hold up better on its own or undercooked a bit if it's going to sit under the moist meat. Otherwise, just eliminate the rice altogether. It muddies up what is an otherwise simple, solid dish. My husband got the Loaded pork potato ($6.50). Again, bold flavors on the meat, but it was less than appetizing to see it sitting in a pool of orange, separated oil. Oh well, BBQ is oily, so that wasn't a big deal, but unfortunately the potato was not cooked enough or smashed at all so my potato-loving fella ended up eating the toppings and leaving an almost untouched spud behind. Overall, this was much better than any of the fast food options surrounding it. It may not be the BEST bbq, but it does the trick! read more

I was driving on my way from Jacksonville to Savannah for a day trip and forgot to get gas so I pulled off in Kingsland to get gas. While getting gas, my dad was in the back and saw this BBQ shack. We decided to go over and see what they had. The lady at the counter was very sweet and offered the four of us a free sample of their pulled pork. We tried it and were all taken aback by how flavorful and moist the pork was. It had a nice bark as well. We got the small pulled pork sandwich which was a great size. They BBQ sauce was good but I ordered mine without sauce since I was driving. It was still a bit big so I ended up needing a fork anyhow. I also got the cherry lemonade which was awesome. It was very refreshing and definitely tasted homemade. If you ever find yourself driving through Kingsland, give this BBQ a try as you will not regret it. read more

Food is fantastic, I drive 2 hours once a month just so I can have there food. Probably the best ribs I have ever tasted

Stopped here one year ago and had the best ribs, chicken and beans. Stopped here tonight and the beans were still great, the pork ribs were just OK and the chicken was like leather. Usually the reviews on Yelp are spot on so I was disappointed on the quality of our food. We ordered half a chicken and a combo of brisket and chicken. They didn't give us brisket, but pulled pork instead. Unfortunately we were on the road and didn't want to turn around. Everything was extremely dry! The pulled pork tasted like jerky. We stopped here around 11:30AM so the food should have been fresh. Overall not worth the stop. read more

This outdoor BBQ hut is the PERFECT stop if you're driving up or down I-95. Please do not go to Wendy's or those other foul chains when you can have delicious fresh made BBQ that is as local as you can get. Support local business!!! Their BBQ is one of the BEST i've ever had. However, they are a bit kooky when it comes to their menu. I ordered a half chicken BBQ sandwich. They said that they only had quarters. So I ordered a quarter and was still hungry. Why couldn't they just add more pieces to the 1/4 to make it a half? My "sandwich" came as 2 whole pieces of chicken on rice and two pieces of white bread. I ordered a pork "sandwich" from the same section of the menu. That arrived as pulled pork on a bun. So it's a mystery as to how they relate their menu items to the descriptions. Who cares. Just eat, enjoy, get extra napkins. read more

Combo plate with pork and beef and sides of beans and potato salad (which was supposed to be the cucumber and onion). The food was handed out quickly. The cashier/server was OK. The food was average. The rice at the bottom of the meat felt more like a way to make it look more full. It didn't really add anything to the plate. The beans were very sweet, mostly sauce and had an oddly gritty texture to them. The meats were juicy and tasty enough, but I didn't find them memorable enough to warrant a future craving. Jumbo pulled pork sandwich combo was the perfect food coma for I-95! The smoke could be smelled at the exit, begging you to stop! If you're expecting 5 star dining however, you're SOL! OK, so RV Road Trip 2018 is in full swing and on our way from Florida to North Carolina, we stopped for gas and dinner. Yelpers love this place so we stopped in. I love me some good BBQ and our 12 year old does too so we were excited to order. I ordered the Short Ribs, my son opted for the pulled pork plate and the little one opted for chicken and rice. My ribs weren't bad, but I must say, I do prefer Phil's BBQ in San Diego. The pulled pork plate was not bad either. The smoky flavor was a little too much for all the food. The rice... oh boy. It's hard to screw up rice but this place did it. It was over cooked mush and not at all good. It looked like mashed potatoes. The loaded baked potato I ordered was pretty good. My only complaint there is I would have liked more BBQ sauce on it. Speaking of potatoes, my wife wanted a plain baked potato and they wouldn't let us order one because there's no button on the register for that! That's kinda silly. Just ring up a side or something. How hard would that be? They obviously have baked potatoes. All in all, I'd say it's worth a stop, but if you're a BBQ fan, this may disappoint. read more

Several weeks back I was heading down to Jacksonville. I found Malson's on Yelp when looking for lunch. Tucked between a gas station and Wendy's, Malson's is basically a shed serving BBQ... Really good BBQ! I ordered the BBQ (pulled pork) plate with baked beans and potato salad. The beans and potato salad were good. The BBQ was very good. Moist and tender, the pork was served with a dark and sweet sauce. The seating consists of picnic tables out front. Yes, that means seeing people pump gas. It also means smelling the meat cook in the large smoker just a few feet away. I wouldn't necessarily drive from Columbia just for the BBQ, but I'd certainly make this a must-stop-and-eat place if heading down I-95. Do yourself a favor and give it a try! read more

Don't miss this outstanding bbq place tucked in between Wendy's and a gas station. You can eat at one of the picnic tables or take it to go. The food is so good and I especially love the baked beans. Homemade, just the right spices and delicious. The meat is always juicy and full of flavor with little fat. The girls working the window have always been super nice and helpful. What a waste of $14.00. I ordered a rib dinner. Waste ,I hate to give a bad review, but they really earned this one. When they handed me the bag I thought it was really light. I'm glade I didn't check because it would have been a scene. When I got to the house and opened the bag I seen sadness in the form of a rib dinner. It contained 1- 1/2 ribs and a none edible bone laid on top of a bed of rice. As I said I hate to leave a negative review, so I will assume they had run out of ribs and scape these bone together and sold it to me. Once this location has some indoor seating (for folks like me who get wimpy about the heat), it will be perfect. The service was fantastically friendly and helpful, and the barbecue was so very good. We were a little underwhelmed by the cupcakes that everyone else seems to love so much, but the pulled pork, the brisket, the ribs... ooh! and the medium and hot sauce? Incredible. Get a few extra buckets on the side for good measure. Oh my! I was ready not to be be blown away by this little barbecue place but the food was outrageous in a good way! The ribs were delicious, the sides were very very good, the brisket was delicious. The only reason I'm giving at four instead of five stars is because of the seating being outdoors only, and there weren't a lot of parking places nor a bathroom. But listening to the birds outside while we sat out and ate, the taste & good smell of the food and everything else, will give it a strong four out of five. We also have plenty of leftovers. The secrets in the sauce - just enough to wet but not smother the flavors. Make sure to get the baked beans - the flavor is straight from the smokehouse.
