If you drive up and down the coast as much as I do and crave some real southern bbq, you have to stop at Malsons!! I know I know, it's a little shack next to a gas station, but trust me. Tender smoked meat, slathered in their homemade mustard bbq sauce! I highly suggest getting everything on the menu and washing it down with sweet tea. Oh and don't forget to grab one of their delicious cupcakes. The only thing sweet is the service and smiles and the window.

I stand on my 5 star review from 6 years ago. The billowing smokers and wood pile say this place is legit. Still a great spot to stop for wood smoked pork, beef or chicken. Order at the window and they'll call you when it's ready. Several outdoor picnic table for dining or waiting for your order.

This is not your typical barbecue restaurant. Think an old timey wooden shack that was here forever and that civilization built up around. If you are the least bit frou frou or fussy, then this isn't your kind of place. But if you love real, authentic, down home barbecue, then you must stop here. We came for lunch not having any idea what to expect. It was easy to access right off of the I-95 exit. The "shack" is located between a gas station and a Wendy's. There's parking out front, but most folks did what we did -- parked in the Wendy's lot and walked over. The menu is written on the outside wall. You order and pay at the window. They call your name to pick up your food when it's ready. There is no "inside". No inside seating at all, just one round table and a few picnic bench tables out front in the swale of grass between the other businesses. When we stopped by, a couple of truckers were enjoying brisket sandwiches (we asked what they were having). We ordered a regular pulled pork sandwich and a rib sandwich. One as a combo came with one side and a drink. We both got baked beans as a side. And for my husband's combo he got sweet tea. Both sandwiches were very good. The pulled pork was tender. My rib "sandwich" was four ribs slathered in barbecue sauce and two slices of plain white bread served separately. It was quite messy to eat and delicious. The baked beans were slightly sweet and very good. We sat at one of the picnic tables with a good view (and smell) of the smokers. As we "dined" a half dozen more people lined up at the window. If in this area again, we'd definitely return.

Yes I know it looks a bit weird. But trust me it's good!

While driving through Georgia, my wife fired up the ol' Yelp machine and found a bbq joint in Kingsland with very good reviews. "Ever heard of Malson's?" she asked. "Nope." And with that we were off. Arriving in the parking lot, I have to admit that it gave off a bit of a 'this is a creepy looking place tucked into the back of a gas station parking lot.' That's probably because it's a creepy looking place that is actually tucked into the back of a gas station parking lot. Do not let that dissuade you from trying the food!! The big smoker on the side of the building is a great indicator of things to come! Look, it's not fancy. It's paper plates and eat outside and hope you don't inhale too many car exhaust fumes. You know, from the gas station. The pulled pork was excellent. Great flavor and really well cooked. Brisket was equally good. You could tell they knew how to smoke some meat! Potato bun for each sandwich we got was fresh and tasty. The mustard based sauce is just a touch on the sweet side. May be too much for some so make sure you ask for it on the side if you're not sure. We also got a side of coleslaw. It was vinegar based and not mayonnaise. I like it prepared that way and it was really good. Overall a great dining experience at a place that not many may know about! If in Kingsland you need to try Malson's!!

Great service. But the food wasn't all that great. I was told that I went late in the day, so maybe that is why I didn't find it so tasty. What I really did like was the sausage in the bun. I was really in the mood for some good old bbq and I feel like that is not what I got.

Pretty good pulled pork sandwich for the price. The sauce is a southern mustard base BBQ sauce and is wonderful with just enough black pepper for flavor. Don't be thrown off by it's location next to the Chevron gas station, the kitchen and cooking area look clean and organized. I wish they had more sides like Mac & cheese and greens, but the potato salad and cucumber & onion salad were good. The cucumber salad seemed like it had been made for a while since the onions were limp and losing the color. Everything was made and ready within 5 minutes. I definitely recommend getting the sweet tea (very sweet).

What a great find. We were exhausted after a day of driving so stopped at the motel 6. Didn't feel like driving anywhere so we decided to walk to malsons. At first I couldn't find it so I called them we noticed the smoker out back. Just a little walk up window but cashier was super nice and the bbq was delicious. I order pulled pork and brisket quite often and the flavor was incredible. I'm so glad we decided to split a plate because the servings were huge. If you are in Kingsland ga area and want great bbq stop at malson's!!!!!

I was making a field visit to Kingsland for work and I stopped in for an early lunch right when they opened at 11AM on a Wednesday. I always try to patronize the nonchain spots over the McD's, BK etc of the world. I got a pulled beef sandwich. I wasn't impressed with what I got for $13. The bun was sopping wet. I don't know if they soak the meat in something to keep it moist throughout the day but no one likes wet bread. The beef was okay. There wasn't much flavor in the meat or the sauce.

We ordered, and the food arrived in a reasonable amount of time--but unfortunately, that's about the only positive thing I can say. My wife's fries were undercooked and soggy, and her green beans were so heavily salted they were nearly inedible. Her pulled pork was completely bland. My meal wasn't any better. The beans tasted awful, the coleslaw tasted like it came straight from a can, and my pulled pork had to be covered in BBQ sauce just to give it some flavor. The wings were dry and not particularly tasty either. The biggest disappointment was the brisket, which I paid extra for. I've honestly never had brisket as dry and chewy as what I was served tonight. I've had regular beef roasts that were juicier and more tender. None of the meats had the smoke flavor you'd expect from a place that advertises itself as a smokehouse BBQ restaurant. Even the "garlic toast" was disappointing--it was comparable to cheap fast-food Texas toast: underseasoned and undercooked. For the price we paid, this was a seriously disappointing meal. We came in hoping for good BBQ and left wondering what happened to this place.

That said, the restaurant could definitely use a good deep cleaning. We noticed cobwebs up around the windows and among some of the decorative areas after we ordered and sat down. All the bread products (in plastic bags on trays) were in the hallway just outside bathrooms. I noticed after we ate and was leaving. My daughter ordered the 2-meat plate with pulled pork and brisket. She asked for a baked potato as one of her sides even though it wasn't listed as an option, and they had no problem accommodating her. The baked potato was a good size. She also had mac and cheese and chose the garlic toast instead of cornbread. She felt the mac and cheese was a little too runny and overly cheesy, and the garlic toast was nothing special. The brisket and pulled pork were okay, but neither had much flavor on their own and definitely needed BBQ sauce. I ordered the 3-meat plate with ribs, brisket, and pulled pork, along with French fries and a baked potato. The portions were generous, and the fries were hot and salty just how I like them. Unfortunately, the cornbread was overcooked and didn't have much flavor. Like my daughter's meal, all three meats were plentiful but lacked seasoning or smoky BBQ flavor and really needed sauce. They had four BBQ sauce choices available, but none really stood out to me. If I went back, I'd probably bring my own favorite BBQ sauce. Our total was around $50 for the two of us, including two fountain drinks, so roughly $25 per person. Overall, the portions were very good and the menu offered plenty of choices, but for a BBQ restaurant, I expected the meat itself to have a lot more flavor without having to rely so heavily on the sauce.

Looking from the parking lot I wasn't sure, but once I entered the premises I knew the place would at least be a fun experience. They have indoor and outdoor dining, a stage , a fountain to wash hands after some awesome tasting BBQ. That is saying a lot for me, who isn't the biggest fan of BBQ. ( I was hoping for fried liver, but was wowed by the great meal I chose!) I had the Holy Trinity, which had amazing Boston butt with baked beans and coleslaw. My side was southern comfort food: collard greens. The Boston butt was aromatic with the smoking that was done to it & tender. It had no need for any additional BBQ sauce as the baked beans added wonderful flavor topped with the crunchiness of a creamy coleslaw! Heaven in your mouth! The collard greens were a perfect addition. What I loved about the greens is they had some smoky (bacon) taste but it wasn't overpowering and salty like I've had at some places. It was just right and the perfect side to the meal. I found the portion just right for the weary traveler I was that day. The waitress was efficient and helpful in making a decision as to what to get. The ambiance was rustic country with families coming in for their dinners. The fountain they use for washing hands was a cute touch. And I even got to enjoy some live music before I left on a weeknight no less! And by the way the music was enjoyable as it wasn't blasting but added to the quaint ambience this place offers its customers. A definite need to go back there!
