Mama Bread is a bakery and market in East Nashville that keeps everything made in house in small batches with quality ingredients. The pastries are some of my favorites in East Nashville. The croissant has a deep golden crust ( slightly on the over-baked side ) with an open airy crumb and is clearly made with care. Not the best I've ever had but always satisfies my croissant cravings and absolutely worth the trip! I've also had the chicken sandwich which was okay but nothing that blew me away. I still have not managed to snag a breakfast sandwich in time but that is on me -- they sell out so fast so plan accordingly. The coffee is average for me but the vibe of this place more than makes up for it. It has a good energy, lots of light, an outdoor patio, and a lot of potential. Service is generally good. Would come back for the pastries alone! read more

Mama Brad is a great addition to East Nashville. Be sure to get there early in order to grab a pastry or loaf of bread, they do sell out somewhat quickly. I visited around 11 and there were only two pastries left. The quality of the big goods is excellent. The coffee is also good however I had to wait over 20 minutes for my beverage on the weekend, so would keep that in mind if you are in a rush. Otherwise I would give this place five stars. The café store and interior is bright and welcoming. They have a great selection of niche home goods. Plenty of seating at the front and behind the counter as well as patio seating. read more

We (5 of us) stopped in for lunch and we all loved it! I had the avocado toast with an egg. Sprouted multigrain toast covered with avocado, radish slices and a jammy egg. Delicious. I had an Italian lemonade with it. For dessert my SO got a chocolate croissant and shared it with me. Very flakey & delicious. Others had a ham & cheese and avocado toasts. Been here 2 times and have gotten the same order:) the tuna melt plus a matcha! Tuna melt never fails and is my fave!!! First time the matcha wasn't my favorite but tried it a second time and added one of their homemade syrups and liked my matcha so much. I definitely was missing a sweetener the first time. Always a good time with the indoor and outdoor seating options. They do get a bit busy but there is a steady flow and I haven't struggled to find seating once. read more

Debated between giving a 4 or 5, but decided on 5 because I really really loved their olive sourdough loaf, and I came to Mama Bread ONLY to try their sourdough. I think they have the best sourdough loaves in town at the time of writing this. There are huge fresh olive pieces in the loaf, which was a wonderful surprise - not the dried puny olives you often get at other places. They don't slice bread for you, but I never get my bread sliced anyway - I like to go home and cut thick slices by myself. Pastries - everything but the croissants are good. I liked the morning buns the best. Sandwiches and toasts are good. The salmon toast was small, on thick grain/seed bread (reminded me of vollkornbrot). Flavors were good, the butter did most of the work. I came on a weekday around 12pm and they still had many loaves left and none of the pastries had sold out yet. We went on a Sunday around 11am. There was a decent line when we got there. By the time we got to the front we got the last plain croissant. We also ordered the bread with butter and ham. The croissant was decent but not great. Very flaky which was good, flavor was not my favorite. The bread was amazing. The flavor was incredible. The butter and jam it's served with is top notch. We loved it so much we bought a loaf to take home. I saw lots of people getting sandwiches. I definitely want to try one of those next time. If you are looking for the pastries the key is to get there early, they come out of the over at 8am. The bread comes out at 10am. The stores itself is super cute. Like a little neighborhood bodega with tons of gourmet grocery items to buy. It's a great addition to the area. read more

Was recommended this place by a friend! Walking in, the vibe was great. Seems like a great community spot with friendly staff. I ordered two lattes, a chocolate croissant, and morning bun. The house made syrups were great, but the espresso shots themselves were just okay. The pastries were both overcooked/burnt and very crumbly. If I came back, I would not get more pastries and maybe try a sandwich instead. read more

Wow, that was just delightful. There was a familiarity when I walked in that reminded me of Europe, town & country, and farmers market fresh - all in one! I am a home owner in the neighborhood and visited Mama Bread for the first time. The team taking orders was lovely and I only had time to snag a loaf of bread and a side of potato salad. The potato salad was 10/10, light with fresh herbs. I had to look this place up because it felt too familiar. I couldn't believe it, the owner happens to be the former Director of Tartine in SF. If you haven't been, Tartine is one of the top eatery's in the Bay Area and widely loved by locals. Mama Bread may be the best new bakery and coffee shop in town! I went on a Wednesday morning around 10:30 and they were already halfway sold out of all of their bread and good pastries - I was shocked, as they have signs that state that bread doesn't come out until 10! I got a Morning Bun that tasted of brown sugar and orange zest. It was absolutely delicious and the perfect combination of fluffy and flakey. I also tried a salted caramel iced latte that was divine. The staff was so friendly and gave me great recommendations. I loved that they also had an area with some fresh produce and other food items for sale. The seating area was super cute, and would be perfect for those who want to do a little work at a nearby coffee shop! I also adored the blue exterior of the building, as it is a stunning color! read more

So i love this place. I think their bread and their pastries are great! I do reallllly really wish I could say the same for their coffee and then it would be a perfect 5 star place for me. Twice I have gone and gotten okay coffee- like I would go back. I just ordered a cappuccino and the milk was burnt, like 160 degrees and it started to get into the cheese taste. Maybe it's ambitious to expect the bread shop to have good coffee but when I go get a pastry I'm looking for both. I think if they just caught all the baristas up on training a bit it would be great-- and I mean that with the best intentions because I want this place to be my favorite. read more

Wow... how lucky are us East Nashvillians to have such an incredible little bakery in our neighborhood?? This place is a real gem, and their baked goods are very high quality. I hope it never blows up too much, to be honest, because I selfishly don't want to have to wait in a fat line to get a morning treat... but we all know that's coming. I honestly think this is one of the best bakeries I've ever tried in any country I've lived in or visited. It's next level! I've tried their cold brew, their lattes, the morning bun, the egg sandwiches, their rotating creative pastry creations.. and they're all 10/10 or better. I absolutely love Mama Bread. It's one of my go-to cafes in East Nashville. Fresh pastries that are to die for. Literally some of the best in the city. And coffee is incredible. Baristas are also super kind. I come quite often so this isn't a one-off review. Love being a foodie so to come back to a place is no small thing! I've been putting all my friends on Mama Bread whenever they're looking for recs in East! Ample seating inside/out -- beautiful natural light, aesthetic of the whole space feels super cozy. Okay full break down: Spent $38.42 I got the Morning Bun Latte, a chocolate croissant, the mortadella sandwich on country bread, and a bag of Bonilla a la vista chips. The best part of this order was the chips. The latte lacked flavor and was a little too bitter for my taste. The croissant was way overcooked! The mortadella sandwich was underwhelming, the best part was the bread but even that was just okay (I have friends that make a better sourdough loaf than that.) The chips were really good! The service was wonderful, everyone was very kind, and the shop itself was cute! I would maybe go back for the bodega style shop at the front but I don't know if I would be willing to stand in line. read more

Disappointed that the pistachio cardamom bun had no flavour of either ingredient; though was a good sweet bun.

Ordered Jammy Egg TOAST. Received a cold piece of thin bread (half the thickness of the other "toasts" around me) with cold toppings. We actually ordered all the toasts on the menu, and none of them were toasted. However, the other two pieces were double the thickness of the third. Not sure how we are messing up toast, but that's where we are apparently. Oh well. The drive to Dozen still proves to be well worth it. read more
