For the sandwich, the chicken was super crispy and the bread was so airy. Loved the slaw on it too. I liked the beef curry because it wasn't super sweet like other ones I've had. The steak and eggs were okay, nothing special. The steak was undercooked, as we asked for medium rare, which made it a bit tough to eat. Found Babychan on Yelp and was honestly surprised by the high ratings, so since we were already in the area, we decided to give it a try. Glad we did! We ordered three different matcha drinks: the hojicha matcha latte, hokkaido matcha latte, and okinawan matcha latte. The hojicha matcha latte was my favorite -- it had a really nice roasted flavor that almost tasted chocolatey. The hokkaido matcha latte had a stronger green matcha taste, but I personally wished it had a little more sweetness. The okinawan matcha latte was just okay for me, also not very sweet. The Japanese cheesecake was definitely the standout. Super soft, fluffy, and delicious -- highly recommend ordering it. The cafe itself has plenty of space, including outdoor seating areas with lots of tables, which made it a nice place to relax and hang out. This was my second visit to Babychan and it was a much better experience than the first. Admittedly, the first time was shortly after they opened, so they have had a lot of time to work out the kinks. This is a Japanaese-inspired bakery and cafe. You can either make a reservation or just go and order at the counter (there might be a line). This time we made a reservation and ordered some hot food as well as pastries. We tried a few items: - various pastries including a pettanko croissant, cinnamon roll, almond miso bun, and matcha danish. Favorites were pettanko croissant and matcha danish. - bonito fries which are delicious - kabocha salad - this was my first introduction to japanese pumpkin and i loved it. It's a really well balanced salad - breakfast sandwich - oh my god yes. The bun is perfection. And that tamagoyaki egg! My mouth waters just thinking about it. - strawberry sandwich - It wasn't my favorite strawberry sandwich I've had. When I was in Japan last year, every morning I'd go to 7/11 across the street and buy one and put it in our fridge so I could have it in bed that night (they'd always be sold out at night). I've been hunting for that feeling ever since. This scratched the itch, but guess I'll just have to go back to Japan (coming fall 2026 haha). If there's one place in Nashville I was both nervous and eager to visit, it's Babychan. Reservations are a good idea if you want to avoid waiting. Location: The café is in one of the most serene parts of the city, overlooking the Cumberland River. They have plenty of parking, and the first hour is free. Bites & Sips: For an appetizer, I ordered the chicken karaage, which came with curry mayo. First of all, the chicken was perfectly crispy, and there were sliced pickled cucumbers on top - just delicious! For mains, my partner ordered the breakfast sandwich, which he devoured in no time. I got the egg curry tart and an onigiri. I really loved the egg tart, which was so flavorful and fresh, and the onigiri was equally delicious. For drinks, my partner ordered the Hokkaido latte, which was quite good, and I had to get the strawberry ceremonial matcha. Unlike many matchas I've had before, the one at Babychan was barely sweet, just the way I like it, with a really premium mouthfeel. Service: I really appreciate how fast the service is! One of my new favorite restaurants in Nashville! I love their other restaurant, Kisser, so I knew I needed to try their new spot. As soon as you walk in the host greeted us, and let us know our table would be ready soon. We were sat right at the time of our reservation and greeted by our wonderful server. The interior is small and cozy with inside seating for a full dining experience and tables outside to enjoy treats from their case. We started with the kobocha salad and bonito fries. The salad was perfectly dressed; the tangy dressing balanced out the sweetness of the kobocha. The fries could have had a little more sauce, but the bonito flakes on top added a fun mouthfeel. My partner and I also tried the salmon chirashi bowl, unagi bowl, and doria. The star of the meal was the unagi bowl! The eel was perfectly cooked, topped with crisp cucumber and nori to balance out the umami flavor of the eel. The salmon chirashi bowl was fresh, and perfectly plated so every bite had a mix of toppings. The salmon was delicious. The doria was unlike any dish I'd had before, but was a delightful surprise. We went on a Saturday afternoon at 1pm, didn't have reservations which was a mistake as there was a 1.5 hr wait for a table. It's a little unclear what the setup is when you walk in and it's a tight space so you will probably knock into someone on accident if it's the weekend. However, you could still order at the counter to get food and drinks to go. The seating outdoor is first come first serve and you don't have to get seated, so on a nice day it would have been okay. It just so happened that the day we went it was misty and cold, not their fault of course. We went ahead and ordered food since we were there and had been wanting to try it. I got the Karaage, Bonito Fries, Sausage Roll, and one of the cookies (chocolate, seaweed, sesame seeds), and the Okinawa Latte. Everything came out pretty quickly which was great. The latte was very good, the fries and karaage were too. However, while the food was good they weren't very flavorful. The karaage could have been a little crispier with more seasoning. The fries were well made, but with all the seaweed and the bonito flakes I was expecting more of a flavor bomb. If anything it made me wish the seaweed and bonito was replaced with good old fashioned salt. Same with the cookie, while it was different and inventive, i think I prefer sea salt to the sesame seeds and seaweed. That's just me though, I'm sure others may love that the ingredients aren't the usual. The sausage roll was good, but like everything else not something I'd make a trip back to get again. Salmon onigiri: very fresh and I love that they separate the seaweed through a plastic wrap from the rice until you're ready to combine them so they don't get soggy. Strawberry matcha: an amazing combo and the strawberries were very fresh. You could tell the matcha is legit and it elevates the pastry for sure. Yuzu tart: INCREDIBLE! If you love yuzu like I do, you must go here and get this. Just the right amount of tart and it's perfection. The crust of the tart is so good as well. It was crispy, flaky perfection and provided a great contrast in texture to the smooth red bean paste. The nama donut was pillowy and decadent - it wasn't too sweet and was definitely a treat. 5. Although it wasn't made to order, the breakfast sandwich was really yummy. Every component seems to be made in-house, and you can tell each element was thoughtfully developed and selected to create the perfect breakfast sandwich. I got a few bakery items including the black sesame Swiss roll (not a fan), the soufflé cheesecake (loved), and the sausage roll (too much bread but the sausage was great!) I sat outside and drank my coffee for the 15 min before lunch started. I went back in and ordered the strawberry sando, cinnamon toast, and chicken katsu. In my opinion, the strawberry sando is something that's more for optics than taste. It's strawberries and whipped cream on thick bread but the strawberries were plump and the whipped cream was fresh and only slightly sweet. The cinnamon toast could have used a little more sugar but my son seemed to like it. I was not a fan of the chicken katsu. The flavor wasn't bad but it was undercooked. Babychan is ridiculously hyped up on social media AND FOR GOOD REASON. Everything on the menu looked phenomenal which is why we ordered so much for only two people. Every item we got was delicious beyond belief. So much time and effort went into perfecting these recipes and I was so impressed. The seafood Doria was so unique and unlike anything I'd ever tried before. Crispy, creamy, savory, fantastic! And the eel! I am not a huge fan of unagi typically but WOW! definitely try those two out of everything on the menu. You will not be disappointed with whatever you choose. There was simply not a sour face in the entire restaurant. My mouth is watering just typing this. If you have the chance to dine in! DO IT! The staff was accommodating and attentive! Quick Japanese spot with really tasty food and a fun UFO-themed decor that makes the place feel unique. The lemonade was sweet (we added strawberries), and the beef curry rice was excellent. The chicken katsu and egg sandwich were both really flavorful. The fries were good, though they had a slightly fishy taste--but that was expected given how they're prepared. The standout item for us was definitely the strawberry dessert sandwich--easily the best thing we tried. The coffee was solid too, about a 4 out of 5 stars. The hazelnut chocolate croissant was a close second. Service was good overall. The restaurant space is a bit tight, so I'd recommend making a reservation if you plan to go. read more

Babychan is definitely worth the hype. In a town full of cookie cutter restaurants popping up every day, Babychan breaks the cycle with its local-first feel. If you're looking to beat the crowd, try mid-morning around 11am. There's ample seating and the interior is gorgeous. Unlike many new establishments in Nashville, Babychan offers a warm, inviting and modern aesthetic that's great for remote work or just a quick breakfast. Their food is full of flavor and the coffee is delicious. It's a little on the pricier side but that's to be expected with it coming from the folks at Kisser. They offer nothing short of high-quality and I'm always happy to pay. Their lattes are perfect for someone who enjoys coffee rather than someone who enjoys sweet drinks so keep that in mind. I'm of the former and had the okinawan. It was subtly sweet and smooth - the perfect latte in my opinion. As for eats, I recommend the green tea tiramisu and a kurabuta sausage bun. Only thing that would elevate the bun is if I were warmed. If you're getting it to go, pop it in the microwave for a few seconds. Overall, this is a wonderful addition to the Germantown neighborhood and a break from the monotony of new cafes in Nashville. I'll be back! read more

Went in for a quick bite and came back an hour later it was so good! Babychan I love you! I came in while walking around Germantown on a warm December day and came out with a bag filled with sushi and a cinnamon roll. The line was to the door but went quickly for takeout. The seating inside was full but didn't seem overly so that the wait would have been too long. I was with my friend's pup and was so glad to see it was dog friendly with a jar or treats at the counter! I went with the cinnamon roll and salmon nigiri for the first go around. Each were delicious..especially the cinnamon roll! Although it wasn't like your classic cinnamon roll with very few notes of cinnamon the exterior crunch and buttery goodness paired with the rich icing was amazing. It was so big that I ate half and saved the rest for breakfast the next day. The nigiri was small but super fresh and I loved that their seaweed was already wrapped around it which helped keep each element crisp where it should and soft where it shouldn't be hard! I came back and got an iced coffee which wasn't the best iced coffee I've ever had but I didn't have any complaints! I got another nigiri for some additional omega 3s and loved it just as much as the first. My only added qualm would be to have a sauce sold separately to dip the nigiri into. That would have taken the experience to another level as I know they know their flavors. read more

Be prepared for a bit of a wait but it's worth it and the line moves fast. The Onigiri is my favorite as it's hard to find in Nashville. The pastries were all a hit, I also loved the Vegetable Curry Pan. The lattes were delicious and not too sugary and overly sweet, which I prefer. They have tons of seating inside and outside. I'm so happy to have this place in the Germantown neighborhood. They are closed two days a week and have earlier hours so be sure to check before visiting. read more
