My wife and I came here with a couple of close friends I've known since middle school - almost 40 years. My buddy's wife found the place. Great call! We let the chef decide what we were having, which was a bit more adventurous than I usually am. We were not disappointed. The food was really, really amazing. I'm not sure I've ever had a pork dish that I enjoyed as much as the one we had. The pasta was great. The salad contents were a little weird, but whatever. When your only complaint was the salad, you're doing OK. The restaurant was beautiful, and the staff was great. Everyone was very nice, but our waitress was particularly pleasant and seemed intent on helping us have a fun experience. Mama herself came to our table and quickly realized that we were amused by her wisecracks, so she kept coming back. She was cranky in a very fun way, if you can imagine. Dinner was a lot more expensive than I expected, but I am definitely glad we tried the place with our friends. We will be talking about that dinner for a long time. Each bite was literally better than the last. We started with the prosciutto bread and eggplant agrodolce. I'm not a fan of eggplant so I passed, but the bread - amazing. We added a side of rosella sauce instead of marinara and it was delicious! Salads were beautiful and huge, lettuce fresh. Slightly overdressed, but it's fine. I can very confidently say that Mama Catena's is not only the best Italian restaurant in Cleveland by a very wide margin, and one of the best restaurants in the city full stop. Typically, I do their "PIATTO ORBO" experience, which allows one to try a fantastic variety of dishes. It has become my go-to reservation whenever I have friends coming from out of town. When I don't do the full blind plate order, however, I rotate between lasagna or Sunday sauce, always with a pepperoni bread appetizer. Beyond the food, the atmosphere of the restaurant feels like you are in grandma's kitchen, not only due to the warm decorating and family photographs along the walls, but also because if you are lucky, mama herself will come meet you in the dining room for a lively conversation. This is the rare restaurant that sometimes I almost want to gatekeep, afraid I won't be able to get reservations there if I share it too much. The restaurant is full and reservations are almost always required. We each had a different meal and the portions were enough to share. Everything was just "ok." Service was great, but the food itself we all felt was just "ok." The starter bread was very good, but then it took awhile for our order but it was very busy. The place is small and it was very loud inside. I got the clams and red sauce with fettuccine, the kids got fettuccine Alfredo with chicken and my wife got meatballs and the red Alfredo sauce. We drove from the west side was so excited about going here. We were seated in the back of the restaurant in a corner small table. Server came us asked us if we wanted wine said no took the wine glasses we asked for diet. I should have taken a picture of the artichoke it looked overcooked and what it was stuffed with was lacking. We never even realized a great little place like this existed. How could that be? Pastas came with a very nice salad. Everything fresh and tasty. I enjoyed the Pepe e' Cacio entree, properly peppery and cheesy, but light. Big chunks of pancetta made this a treat. My wife really enjoyed the huge bowl of Sunday Sauce over rigatoni. Sausage, pork and meat balls with plenty of tomatoes. It was probably three meals in size. The cannoli crumble dessert was unique and interesting as was the whole experience. A hidden gem! I have lived in the area for about 6 years and have just now sat down for a meal at Mama Catena Vino é Cucina! What a shame that is because this family owned restaurant is absolutely amazing in every way. The interior is very nice and cozy. The staff are very accommodating and pleasant, providing you with a great experience from beginning to end! We got lucky and came in on a Thursday where they host a man who plays an accordion. What a gem! I absolutely love this quaint little place. You'd never expect the food or service based on the location which is in an unremarkable little strip mall next to a convenience store. The staff was very warm and friendly. Everyone is knowledgeable about the dishes and everyone cooking them are family! The food is cooked to perfection and with love. There's a nice wine selection but no alcohol otherwise. We had the pleasure of meeting the owner and hearing heartwarming stories about her and her late husband with whom she founded the restaurant. We ordered pepperoni bread, the shrimp appetizer, bronzino with broccolini and a side of cavatelli with Rosa sauce. The shrimp appetizer was out of this world good and overall verything was delicious and perfectly prepared. I can't say enough about what a wonderful experience we had here. My friend suggested going to this restaurant since she enjoys the accordion music on Thursday night. Being Italian, I had great expectations based on her recommendation though she normally has a bowl of soup there with a cannoli. I ordered their Chicken Parm with the side of pasta. I asked for penne but they only had rigatoni. They served me an over fried chicken...not moist topped with the usual toppings and laid it on top of a heavy tomato sauce rigatoni. When you walk in it is Shocking when you see the elegance of the dining room. it is not something you would think you would find in Euclid. I got spaghetti but I did not want a marinara sauce so I asked if they had other sauces so the server told me about the other four sauces they offer. I opted for the Sicilian oil and garlic. Simple and delicious! The owner, Mama was there and visited our table twice to check on us and tell us about herself and her restaurant. We will definitely be back! Came here on the recommendation of a local. Considering this for a bridal shower. Don't let the location ( in a little strip of stores with a reality and convenience store ) fool you. Once inside , it's very nice portraying a nice Italian vibe. The food was phenomenal. The garlic bread and bruschetta with red wine was a great start to the evening where we chatted about the venue and brides maid dresses. I ordered the eggplant and the server was very nice to explain. It was Sicilian and not breaded like eggplant parmigiana I really appreciated it as an educated diner is less likely to be disappointed. It was exactly what I like. No breading or heavy cheese on top. Bellissimo!!! The build your own pasta was a hit with a few who very much enjoyed the puttanesca sauce. Another loved her clam pasta and was happy with how many clams were throughout. The chicken parmigiana was also a hit. My daughter highly recommend this restaurant and it lived up to the hype! We were in town celebrating her graduation. We ordered the "Blind Plate" which basically means the cooks creation. Three course option which consisted of a charcuterie plate with meats, cheeses, nuts, olives, (see pictures). Main course was steak, grilled pepper, pan seared pork & gnocchi. Dessert was a chocolate covered Ice cream ball cut 4 ways with strawberries drizzled with chocolate. The staff who are almost all family were warm and welcoming made us feel right at home. To top it off there was an accordion player there who was absolutely masterful. This place was wonderful and I'm glad we had a chance to visit and enjoy this hidden gem. This is by far the best Italian meal I have ever had. We arrived to a packed house and were greeted by the wonderfully attentive staff with a smile, as soon as we got seated the waitress was more than helpful in helping us pick something from this everything looks good menu. Their bread they bring to start is a meal unto itself smooth, moist not over done or over-spiced with garlic and absolutely delicious. Finally picking their lasagna with a side of house marinara and hand rolled meatballs, my wife set her sights on the chicken parmigiana with capellini which was tender, crispy and flavorful. Next the salad with home made Italian was fresh with a perfect amount of dressing. I felt at home as if I was part of the family, constantly checked on. The taste of everything we got was literally the best we have had period. traveling from Tennessee to make this a staple of a getaway is definitely in the future. My husband and I had gone their right after it opened up and I can give a list of things that were wrong with this place. Initially my husband had message and called a few times asked me about reservations and they had said that they had absolutely no openings until I went in myself to ask them if I can make a reservation for later that evening and they said that they have plenty of space available and that they would be able to put me in. The place itself looked nice in the sense that it is newly renovated although it is a little small. The waiters and waitresses there looked like young children and it showed in the way they were serving. Let's begin with why an Italian restaurant didn't have black pepper. I mean there is a convenience store right next door that they could have walked over to to grab some black pepper and my husband and I were looking for some for the extremely bland food that we were eating. The waitress stated there weren't any at all and we couldn't believe it. My husband assumed that the waitress didn't know what he was talking about so he went on to explain that it should come in a shaker and there are Italian restaurants that actually give you black pepper freshly ground. She went to the kitchen and came back and stated we don't have any at all. Neither one of us enjoyed our food. My husband also ordered a bottle of wine there and the wine ended up being corked wine. We had told the bartender about this and instead of bringing us a bottle that was equivalent in price or less he decided it would make more sense to bring us something that was much more expensive. Euclid's best Italian Ristorante, Mama Catena's, is open again as of May 2018, and if you are new to MC's just know they can go noodle to noodle, bottle to bottle, calzone to calzone with any place in Little Italy and win. I grew up around the corner from Mama Catena's and lived off their pizza and calzones as a little bambino. As I got older I would gradually try more menu items and not long after that I fell in love with their Involtini pasta, which is cheese filled pasta rolled into a log then cut into large pin wheels. I have never found anything similar to it. The involtini, lasagna with meat sauce, and gnocchi are some of MC's specialty pastas but they have a build your own pasta section that has every noodle and sauce you could imagine to make it your way. One unique sauce Mama Catena's offers is a blend of marinara and Alfredo called Rosella sauce, and I promise you it is worth a try. I stick to the classic veal and chicken parm entrees and they are consistently delicious and give you the chance to try any of the pastas with it, but MC has a ton of authentic Italian entree's that I am just not adventurous enough to try. You could come here every day for 3 months and try something new each time. Everything from steak, sausage and pork chop to salmon, shrimp and eggplant. There are plenty of vegetarian options and tasty salads as well. If you are a wino, Mama Catena's has one of the best wine lists in the great Cleveland area. It is huge, diverse, and their sommelier can tell you anything you want to know about each bottle, including cool stories about their background. Wine flights and corking services are available. My family and my community are so excited and relieved to have Mama Catena's back following their temporary closure from a fire. They are a true Mom and Pop, family owned restaurant serving up the most genuine Italian food and LOVE you can find. Show them love back and support them as they make their return. read more
