This was some great Tex Mex! What do you expect from Leaky, TX?! I expect something a little quirky and home spun...yep I do. And that's what I got. It's a fun little place with prompt service and great enchiladas--heavy on the chili powder just like I like them. My daughter and I got the Mama Chole's plate and added an enchilada to it so we don't fight over the one that came with the plate. That was plenty after we gorged ourselves on homemade warm chips and hot sauce and queso. The carne guisada was also top notch. This was a yummy stop. Very busy cheery interior. I'm gonna say it was as good if not a tad better than the food we had at Crosby's in Acuna, Mexico. If your running around the scenic loop in the Hill Country and don't know where to stop...this is it. read more

Delicious, home cooked meal! My husband and I were leery because this was a small town but to our surprise, the food was fantastic and the service was great as well. We started with the bean dip (and all of the fixings) and my husband cleaned his Carne Guisada right off the plate. My three enchiladas were a nice touch, topped with onions and guacamole. Mama Chole's was worth the drive into Leakey! Great food! Good service and super nice folks that have been in business for over 20 years! Nice outside and inside seating. The staff at this restaurant were absolutely the kindest and the food was amazing for a local Resturant. A perfect place to settle into after a day at the river! The ONLY thing is they do not serve alcohol, but that didn't keep us from enjoying the atmosphere and food. Came down for Twisted Sisters ride and well needed a break from the rain, cold and wind so what better way to warm the inside then some good out of the way TexMex. This place did not disappoint its not large by any stretch of the imagination but is warm and inviting. One of the more seasoned riders with us says the best way to tell a good Mexican restaurant from average is by how much orange they use on their walls and this place had it on all four. I had the enchilada dinner, 2 beef/ 1cheese covered in either con carne or queso accompanied by rice and refried beans. The portions are more than adequate with fresh tostada chips and what appeared to be homemade salsa the only thing you will want when done is a blanket & pillow. read more

What can I say? It's one of the only restaurants open after 5:00 PM in Leakey. However, once I saw the "non cash" charge on my receipt I decided I wasn't a fan. Sure it's not much, but I feel as though they were just trying to get a few extra bucks out of everyone not choosing to pay cash. Petty things like that along with mediocre food don't get you very far in the service industry. They could really benefit from some competition in town. read more

Fantastic! We stopped in for dinner and we're craving some Tex Mex. This truly hit the spot! Service was stellar and food came out super fast. We stopped in to have dinner on a quiet Monday night, the restaurant was very crowded but that was a good sign that it must be pretty good. Indeed it was, enjoyed our food...all our food was very flavorful. Service was good, everything was exactly as it should be. Glad we came and would return when we come back to the area. The food is good. I've been here several times. The first time I had the chimichangas and the most recent time I got Mark's Peppers. The chimichangas were pretty good. Portion size is good and the food has lots of flavor. Mark's Peppers were excellent, although the actual peppers were so hot that I couldn't eat them. The filling was amazing. My son had Mark's Nachos both times and every time I see them I wish that I had picked them. The biggest turnoff of this place is the flies. Both times we've been there there were flies buzzing our food the whole time. Experience:3 Food:4 Value:5. First time here, thought I would try it based on the good reviews. Lunch at 12:30. Mexican food is pricy for what you get. $10 for an enchilada, taco, rice, beans. Homemade tortillas people... Mama makes her own tortillas and they are pretty damn good. We started a day of floating off with some Guac, Salsa and Tortillas and it was excellent. Will definitely be back next time I'm in the area. read more

My absolute favorite place to eat while floating the frio! Mama Chole's is absolutely delicious! it is the best Mexican food around. The portions are extremely generous, so you will leave completely full! It's not the greatest setup on the inside- its rather cluttered, and the bathrooms were not the best- but the food was absolutely fantastic. The service is great- staff is so friendly. My family and I make it a point to eat here at least once or twice while visiting to float the river. read more

This is the worst food I've ever had in my life. Food was clearly microwaved and cold. The queso was so old you couldn't get it out.(rock hard) The staff was horrible and extremely rude. We waited two hours to pay for expensive horrible food. My sister got a grilled cheese it was burnt black. Please don't waste the time and money to eat here. read more
