Stopped in for lunch like we do every year at the river. Food was excellent! We ordered the family sized queso which was surprising not that big lol and left us wondering how some the individual must be but it wasn't that expensive, so we ordered another one for our group of 4. I got the grilled cheese which I must saw was perfect, crispy and buttery on the outside and melty cheese goodness on the inside. My husband got 3 cheese enchiladas with rice and beans and I got one on the side and we both had queso on top instead of the sauce. Our food was delicious and that's what keeps us coming back every year we are at the river! They were nice and kept our waters filled and brought us more chips every time we asked and we asked alot lol they do give you complimentary salsa and chips. read more

While camping in Concan my husband and I drove past Mama Chole's a couple times. Stopped in for a late lunch, early dinner and were not disappointed. Service was quick, homemade chips and salsa. Our tea glasses were filled quickly and our meals were served hot. Very obvious the food is hand prepared and not out of a Sysco truck. We always try to support locally owned restaurants while traveling and would definitely recommend Mama Chole's. read more

We LOVE Mama Chole's! When we come to Leakey it is a place we have to eat! The restaurant is pretty small, but it is still spacious enough to enjoy some yummy guacamole nachos and sweet tea! The staff are always friendly and the restaurant is clean and well kept! Can't wait until we come back! read more

Flour tortillas...not homemade and if they are...well they sure are questionable! Chicken fajitas sucked! Queso, salsa and chips were excellent!!!! Chalupa/crispy taco/beans were good. Small towns can be hard when it comes to picking a great local place. Well, Mama Chole's is a small place in a small town but packs a big punch! Ask for the hot green salsa if you are interested in spicing it up. If it's too much then add a dab to the already delicious salsa they brought promptly at the beginning. Guacamole comes in individual sizes which means you don't have to share; other people can get their own. There were 5 of us total & I tried a little of everything, I'm very picky when it comes to beef fajitas & they were delicious. I had Chicken fajita salad, it was so good I ate all of it, I could not put my fork down. The tortillas were fresh. Even the Chicken that looked like chicken fried steak was amazing. I can't remember what it was called on the menu but I'm pretty sure it was one of the new non tex mex meals. I couldn't believe how fresh and fluffy it looked, the batter was a perfect crisp. My only negative comments would have to be that I can see this place getting very busy & packed. We experienced it a little towards the end of our meal. I think that happens at any little restaurant when they get busy though. A large group came in & I and I was thankful we had already gotten our food. The restrooms are "outside", there is a sign that tells you this above where you pay. You do not pay at the table, you pay at the back of the restaurant. Back to the bathrooms - I was a little hesitant to venture to these outside bathrooms but once I found it, it wasn't bad at all. Soap, paper towels, tp, warm water, & I wasn't having to hold my breath! We will definitely be returning as long as it isn't crazy crowded with that small town long line. read more

We wanted Mexican food and the locals told us to eat here. The salsa was so good, it was really fresh. The chili con quest got eaten up quick. I had the beef fajita plate, my mom had the chicken fajita plate, my son the taco plate, and my dad had the Mama's special. The food was really good. The service is outstanding!!! There was one waiteress in the place and 5 tables came in at once..she had everyone's drinks and chips delivered in less than 10 minutes! She was one of the best waitresses I have ever seen!!! Awesome! We came in with a large family group and even though it was a tight squeeze, the staff was very friendly and courteous to get us accommodated. I ordered Pete's Peppers and it was one of the most delicious plates I've ever had, although the description on the menu didn't really jive with the presentation. It was described as stuffed jalepenos, but it is served more as a picadillo plate. The meat was seasoned SO well and while it wasn't immediately obvious but there was some queso mixed in there too. I loaded up a few of their wonderful homemade flour tortillas and I was in heaven. If we're ever in this area again, I'm going out of my way to stop here again. read more

Visited Saturday July 12 during our stay at Garner State Park. Arrived at 9:03 p.m. and the owner/manager?? welcomed us with a gracious smile despite the fact that they close at 9:00. I decided then I was leaving a 30% tip no matter what the food tasted like. To our surprise, the food was great. The place is small and quaint. My wife and I recently visited here during our most recent trip to Garner State Park. It is a small place that probably seats about 40 people. Once we sat down we were immediately served with chips, salsa, menu's and drink orders placed. They give you each your own personal salsa bowl and a small pitcher of salsa for the table. The salsa and chips are really good. We both ordered the Mama Chole's plate which had a little bit of everything. By far the cheese enchilada with fresh onions on top by far was my favorite. When you think of a good greasy cheesy enchilada this is exactly what I want. The carne guisada was alright, it was more of a tomato base and I prefer a nice brown gravy. The service was great, every few minutes we were being checked on. We will be returning when we are in the area again. read more

The service was fabulous, chips and salsa were spot on and we enjoyed our meal here. Why only 3 stars? The cheese. It's that weird tasting stuff that isn't quite American but isn't quite cheddar, either. Two of our party of four hated the cheese; the other two were fine with it. Just informing the masses! Ate here today with a group of 11. The service was great--very quick and attentive. The chips are salsa were delicious--they make the tortilla chips themselves. I had the chicken fajita quesadillas, and they were huge! One note though--the cheese in them was almost like velveeta. Didn't bother me, but some might not like it. I also tried a bite of the beef enchilada from someone else's plate. It was very good. Someone else in our party who ordered fajitas said the flour tortillas were amazing. My husband and I were vacationing and came across this restaurant. Right when we walked in they looked at us like we didn't belong there. It felt as if we were living in the past. The waitress saw us but we had to wait for a Hispanic lady to come help us. If you're not white then be prepared to feel awkward. The food was mediocre but the atmosphere was terrible. read more
