A HUGE THANK YOU to Bob Hamil and Mama Hamil's ! They came to my family's rescue when another caterer 'Bailed Out' on us five (5) days before a wedding reception. The same day, Monday, I reached out to Bob for guidance on IF and HOW his restaurant team could help us. He said "call me tomorrow and we'll start planning" for your 100 people wedding reception event. The next day, Tuesday, we had our full reception meal planned and coordinated with his catering staff. What can I say. Really 4.5. Everything is soul food done right. Vegetables are great. Unbelievable selection. They could pay a little more attention to their meats. Ribs dry and Catfish nuggets a little small. But I can over look that. The prices is very reasonable. Try it for sure. read more

Been here several times for lunch and it is fantastic. All you can eat buffet for $11.00. Excellent fried chicken, and I also love their greens. Nice selection of salads and desserts. They appear to no longer serve catfish, as I have never seen it there for lunch. You can get your food quickly and there is plenty of parking. Very old school Mississippi. Recommended. read more

Pretty good soul food I mean whoever is in the back can throw down lol cause everyone was down for more! We got there for the lunch and it was packed, as usual. Very good selection of food many options to choose from. Staff very attentive and always cleaning the line so no worry about any mess you make on accident I hope lol. I came on the recommendation of many locals who spoke highly of this venerable restaurant and they weren't wrong! It is a buffet style place that still offers wait service. We had a large group and after paying for the kind of meal we waiting we were shown our tables and asked what we'd like to drink. So glad I got the sweet tea, which was amongst the best I've had in the South. The buffet options are plentiful and satisfying. We had a vegetarian in our group who left full and happy. I had a fried chicken breast, cornbread, greens, catfish, mac and cheese and red beans and rice. Good food makes for good feelings! read more

$10 for lunch buffet including the drink is usually a pretty good price, but the quality of the food product is sub-par, in my opinion. The pulled pork was dry, the chicken was flavorless. The mac&cheese would have been better had they used Kraft! I was even disappointed with my tolls and cornbread. The ice cream was too crystallized, the banana pudding was too soupy, and the other desserts were just a poor attempt at baked goods. This place got good reviews from other Yelpers, so maybe I just hit this place at the wrong time. I will say the place was packed for lunch, and the atmosphere was nice. The staff was excellent and the young lady that was responsible for my table kept my sweet tea full the entire time. The dining area was kept clean. The men's restroom gets a B+. Overall, I have to say I won't be coming back, and would suggest you continue searching for an alternative, unless you are just looking for lots of food at a cheap price. read more

To begin, the place looks something like a converted church and from the outside does not look like anything special. Then you enter. You are immediately smacked in the face by the sweet smell of southern goodness. Something like slow cooked meats mixed with freshly baked breads and topped off with veggies stewed in lard and other mystery goodness. Now, I did not get the opportunity to visit the original location and I know some people complained about the lack of a cozy/friendly atmosphere, but there was never a time where we did not feel welcome. Now lets get to the main event; the grub. Things we ate that were orgasmic explosions in our mouths: Ribs- fall off the bone delicious, some pieces didnt even have bones! This year as we were driving home from Kentucky to Texas we spent quite some time on the internet trying to locate this place. We could not remember the name and again I did not review it last year. Hamil's is one of the most over-hyped places I've eaten in the Metro area lately. It's buffet, and the price isn't offensive, but the food is consistently mediocre, and selections never vary in the slightest. The staff is sufficiently attentive, and other than the long lines to pay for food, the process is a pretty efficient way to get in, fed, and out, even at lunch. Everything about it was a great Mississippi experience. From the giant painted tractor outside to the Deep South theme inside that just oozes from every corner. The buffet selection is as big as the restaurant itself. There's not enough room on yelp to describe all the offerings, but rest assured that just about every southern food you can imagine is an option, and it's all delicious. I love this restaurant , the food is always good however I'm a bit disappointed in the line servers and cooks. One server failed to have his mask covering his nose and tried to argue that he had been doing it like that all the time and it was ok ( he did pull it up after I took his picture) several of the cook staff had theirs not covering their noses and a couple didnt even have them on at all. Thats just plain dangerous. On a positive note everyone of the table staff had theirs on properly so a thumbs up tho them. read more
